White empty squares on monitor ?

My macBook air has white empty spaces instead of the content such as the econ for the hard drive, mail, etc. it also crashes mail and safari often. Can anyone make a suggestion?

Sorry I meant to mark your suggestion with a green check but i made a mistake and i don't know how to fix it. I also had deleted everything I could and there may have been something that was causing the proplem. thanks
again.

My New Tab Page does not work at all. I just have the empty squares with nothing in them at all?
I know how to use about:config & have had the usual problems with newtab page tiles but this is more like a bug- using 33.0.1. Doesn't show tiles icon in top right corner just shows a gear that is used to hide the empty tiles that I can't fill with sites. First it would only show 2 rows of 4 columns even though I had it set to 5 & 6 then few days later for no reason they went empty with a serrated line around the tiles & can't drag from the bookmarks---- really bloody annoying!!!!!!! Possibly a setting in the about:config but i can't fig it out?

Hello,
I would like to inform you that not all the browsers and online PDF readers support copying text from a PDF. If you have opened the PDF online, please download PDF file to your computer and then open the file in Adobe Reader.
Please share a screenshot if the issue still persists.
Regards,
Nakul

That webpage doesn't have a Favicon image.
Come up with an image that you want and pick an extension [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?q=Favicon&appver=15.0.1&platform=windows that inserts a Favicon or changes the Favicon].

lacking most features, but! im doing pretty good so far. code has NOT been cleaned, so lots of useless characters/repetition... and like i said, many features are missing, so there are placeholders for testing (setWidth, numberOfMines, etc.)
i've run into a slight major problem . how would i go about automatically clearing empty mine squares after one (empty one) has been clicked? i can make it clear the ones adjacent, but i need it to clear in all directions as far as possible... any ideas? i assume i'll need some sort of an 'until' function...?
btw if you wanted to see it border images unfinished. pretty snazzy for tk.

#TERMINATED HERE
so even with the reorganized code (which is much faster), i'm still not getting it to work. i know its going to do lots of calculations, but good lands, there's only 100 possible squares (in this setup).
and even in 100, it still go in circles forever unless i tell it not to check what has already been checked. probably the problem...
any ideas?

• Arabic characters appear as empty squares when using certain HTML tags or font styles

Only when HW acceleration is on. Arabic characters appear as empty squares when using "italic" or "oblique" font styles or when using <i> or <em> html tags.
Try this code to replicate the problem

<i>i tag مشكلة ظهور المربعات الخالية بدل الحروف <br> <br>
<em>em tag مشكلة ظهور المربعات الخالية بدل الحروف </em>

After lots of research, I found the problem. The boxes (squares) show up whenever there is a font in the webpage that does not have Arabic within its Unicode range such as Times New Roman Italic or Oblique. Normally, Firefox will pick another font to display the characters but now, a newly introduced feature is interfering.
To fix the problem without turning off hardware acceleration.
Go to about:config
locate: gfx.font_rendering.directwrite.use_gdi_table_loading
which is True by default in FF4.0 Beta 10, and change it to False.
This is a bug that has to be fixed.

• Widget produces white empty box only and no video??

I am using Windows Vista and Adobe Dreamweaver and Flash (plus adobe premier elements 9 and photoshop) for a thesis project. On my post below, I found the answer to why Widget would not insert. Original issue before Widget was my flv videos would not insert correctly in the codes page, and I only saw empty white boxes on the site, no videos. I then downloaded Widget hoping to solve the problem. I am still seeing empty white boxes on the site with Widget. The videos look great in premier elements 9, at photoshop.com, and they are stored in my root folder in Dreamweaver. I don't understand why I have been trying to upload these videos for two weeks at least and still do not have a solution. My project is due December 6. Please help. I don't want to embed a link and use a public video viewing site. I want the videos to show up on my pages. I printed the tutorial information on installing widget, configuring it, etc and feel that was done correctly. After the insertion of the Widget, I changed the size dimensions, dragged my first video from the root folder to the code insertion point, and changed the source location. Am I missing some step to make these videos show up on my site pages? Desperate in Tennessee. Thanks!

Thank you! Yes, I read this page and several others. I bought a book as well on Dreamweaver and Flash and have read parts of both books on videos. I keep getting the white empty box on the site page and cannot figure it out. My videos looked great played in Premier element 9, at photoshop.com, and in other formats like windows media so I cannot understand they will not appear correctly on the web page. I appreciate your help so much! I am doing a thesis project on paleontology and have several video interviews with paleontologists to get on the website for my project. Judy Moss

Hi,
You have managed to post in Applications then iChat within that.
iPhoto is listed under iLife
I have not used iPhoto enough to be able to offer solution for you.
You would be better off posting in the iPhoto Forum (in that link above)

Please look over the System Requirements for Lion:
Mac OS X Lion System Requirements
In order to install Mac OS X 10.7 you will need:
Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of RAM (4GB recommended)
Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later with the Mac App Store installed( 10.6.8 Recommended)

I have a bug in my AE viewer some white straight lines (or squares or rectangles) appear randomly in my viewer. if I move to another frame sometimes they diseappear, sometimes they show in different places, if I come back to the same frame idem.
When I render it, those bugs are rendered entirly black.
I can't show image of the project since it is under NDA
We are working in 32bpc, HDTV Rec 709, linear mode. 25fps resolution 1280x720. We have a lot of precomps, using one cartoon filters and lots of glow, levels, & box blur as lots of footages. They are all store on a server.
Any idea, did someone had this issue before ?
thx

OpenGL most likely. Two possible things:
The cartoon filter itself - buffer corruption since it is used multiple times and they are not isolated properly. Turn off GPU usage in the effect itself.
A problem with color profile operations in the default "faster" mode. Try the "more accurate" method.
Other than that, simply turn off OpenGL entirely in the prefs.

Thanks

Hi Aravind,
The only cause to this problem is your igs is not working and could be one more reason i.e you have not activated the services ( html, http, bsp and others ) in transaction SICF
you try this way and to activate the services follow the instruction from SPRO

• Thumbnails showing up as white boxes / squares.

I recently loaded up iPhoto and went through the library and deleted a whole bunch of photos - mostly poorly taken shots or things that I no longer want around. When I went back into iPhoto, all of those photos I delelted are now showing as white boxes and making iPhoto run exceedingly slow! I searched around on this forum and found a couple similar problems but nothing exactly on target. I tried rebuilding the library (started iPhoto with the command-option keys down) but that didn't work either.
Any other ideas?

Daniel:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. How did you go about deleting the files? From within iPhoto and then empty the iPhoto trash? Or did you delete them from the Finder? If it was from the Finder see if this will help:
How to recover those photos lost due to renaming or moving in the Finder
1 - make a backup copy of your iPhoto Library folder
2 - do a search of just the iPhoto library folder with the following criteria:
File name contains ".jpg" and File size is less than 1 KB.
That will find all of those zero sized files that were created when iPhoto couldn't fine the originals.
3 - move those zero sized image files to the trash.
4 - now delete those "bad" photos from the iPhoto library using the normal method. (you don't have to but if you don't they will be recovered every time you do a library rebuild with the "recover orphaned photos" option selected).
5 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and when the rebuild menu comes up select the last option, "Recover orphaned photos in the iPhoto Library folder"
This will recover those renamed files and put then in a new roll. The only downside is that their titles in iPhoto will be "Roll xx-1, etc. You can do a Get Info on them, find the actual file name and change the title so they are the same.
So it can be done with a little work.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but the above quoted lines from Mac Medic's post just came up in a search.
Please bear with me for a second. I'm a long time Mac user—since the Mac Plus came out—and diehard Power Mac and Tiger fanatic, so I'm new to Mac-Intels and Snow Leopard.
I'm running my MacBook (not "Pro") in clamshell mode to drive two external monitors. Am I risking anything by having the lid closed?
A full description of my MacBook setup is here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18553119#18553119
This is my only Intel Mac. I rescued it from the trash, literally, after my wife had discarded because of a bulging battery that was making the keyboard, trackpad and mouse inoperative. I only use it to run Photoshop 13 ("CS6") which doesn't run on my Power Mac G5 Quad.
Thanks in advance.

• White empty browserwindow opens after coming back to the App -whats wrong?

Hello, i got the following Problem.
A v24 custom viewer App with Entitlement+iTunes Subscription. Already in App Store and approved.
Now the problem: If i switch to another application and the App reloads again ( and updates Library) an empty white browserwindow opens with no content.
No matter how long you wait, there's nothing in there.
We don't know anything about that problem and hours of googling did not help at all. Does anyone know the reason for this strange behaviour
Strange is:
First time you load the app or no matter how often you close an issue and reopen it - as long if you don't leave it, the Library-Update works perfectly. ...Untill you switch the application and open the app again.
Even more strange is: it has no effect for the purchase at all, i can click done, and i can act like the browser window did not even show up.
If you need further information i can tell you more Details.

Hi Bob,
it does not appear anymore. Luckily.... We were talking to the Adobe Gold Support, and they figured it out. That error was produced by a tracking pixel of google analytics inside the entitlement banner - that forced opening that link in a ( of course empty) browserwindow instead of just running in the background. Now we know the problem and glad that it's fixed. But thanks for asking. Wish you a nice week, Bob
