White flashes in transitions

Just upgraded to iMovie 6.0.3, and now I'm getting a visual "flash" during transitions between stills. Seems to happen no matter what the length or style of the transition or clips. Seems to happen at the end of the transition.
Power PC G5 Mac OS X (10.3.9)

does it also happen when you use the Ken burns effect?
Would that be the same as "flickering"?.... or maybe choppy looking
I do get quite a bit of that on my intel/IMovie 6, but not on my G-5 Power, using the same software.
I thought it might be just the intel. I mean heck, I just updated to the latest.

Oracle forms display bright white flash when transitioning between forms.

We recently migrated an application from Oracle Application Server to WebLogic and we are noticing that in the WebLogic environment while transitioning between forms there is a quick bright white flash that has caused several complaints. We are not sure if this is related to a performance issue which may be preventing the form from painting quick enough or if there is a configuration problem somewhere. Has anyone else seen this behavior?
We are running WebLogic Server Version 10.3, Fusion Middleware 11gR1, and Oracle DB 11.2

Unfortunately we don't have any errors to work off of. The application works fine, it's just that their is a very short delay when transitioning from one form to another and during that transition the whole form turns bright white which has caused users to complain that it could cause an epileptic seizure. I assumed maybe there was some performance tuning/caching that could be done to make it so it loaded quicker. Our DBA team recieved a response from Oracle support stating that although the forms themselves are relatively unchanged, due to the underlying software changes in 11g we are to expect some differences compared to previous versions. We have since set background in formsweb.cfg to use a light grey image which seems to be more acceptable for our users.

White Flash on transition

I have made several movie's with still photos put music. I have 1 movie that has just started getting white flashes at the end of some of the transition. I used cross dissolve transition with all movies and only one is doing this. It also only happens with a few of the pictures/transitions.

We've had other people asking a similar question,
If dip to color dissolve is not what you arte after
I can only suggest something that despite not being a flash could
represent an alternative effect. Not sure what exactly you have in mind!

White flash during iDVD transitions?

Whenever I apply a transition to a button (play movie, select chapter, etc.), I get a short, white flash before the next video plays. Doesn't seem to matter what type of transition I apply (fade to black, push, etc.).
How can I alleviate this issue?

Thanks Sue... not sure that's it as I don't think I'm working with a slide show. I simply choose a theme to start... import a video (or two, etc.)... then select a transition for the button. If the transition takes me to the start of the movie (be it dissolve, fade to black, etc.), there is a momentary white flash, then the movie starts. Kinda annoying. I'll read up on the slide shows.

Why am I getting a black (or white) flash consistently after a transition from iDVD menu to movie?

One thought. Take a look at your timeline in your original imovie project. If your audio comes first without any video attached to it, that can cause the flash. If that's not the case, try shaving one or two frames off your video, then reimport your project into idvd. That might take care of it. Good luck. And let us know how it turns out.

White flash on page transitions

Hi guys
The title kind of says it all. Between any two page transitions on
www.andybertaut.com there's an ugly white flash that only seems to be appearing in IE11. (I checked IE8 and chrome). I googled it and found two possible solutions (a link to an unused js file, which I don't have, each of my js files are in use,
and the need for an IF statement to cover page transition smoothening for IE:

Neither one worked. I went all through my css and can't find anything. Some of the pages are really simple, with only a small amount of html and css in them, so I'm not sure what could be awry in them.

It would be hard to help you unless we can reproduce your results. I can't. I see nothing on IE11 that I don't see on another browser. There is no white flash between page transitions.

Black flash after transitions

Using iMovie 6, sometimes there is a black flash at the end of a transition (working with photos). Doesn't happen on every transition and doesn't happen all the time. I work in an elementary school computer lab and it happens randomly on all 30 computers. (iMacs 10.5.8) I just put together a movie with about 30 photos using the same transition (cross dissolve) between each one and it flashes on about half of them. Any suggestions?

I had the same problem but with white flashes. Somebody on this forum helped me solve it...
First remove the affected transition. Then highlight a different clip (not the beginning or ending clip betweeen which you want the transition). Then drag the desired transition from the pane between the two clips. The transition re-renders and most times this clears up the offending white or black flashes.
But then it stopped being a problem for some reason - maybe the last update of version 6?

White flash when previewing movies on full screen

Sometimes, when previewing my current editable movie project on the full screen I see a brief white flash at the end. Any idea why this is, please, and can it be avoided? No problem, I guess, if it does not appear in the final iDVD version or on the burnt DVDs. Thanks, Keith.

Welcome to the discussions.
Some users reported a brief white flash in association with a transition. Is yours related to a transition? The 'cure' was to move the playhead frame by frame until you see the white flash, then 'split video at playhead' to isolate the flash. Usually it is only a frame or two in duration, and you can delete it.
If it is with a transition, you will have to delete the transition, find the white flash frame, delete it and redo the transition.
Post back if this is not helpful.

White flashes in iDVD

I made a huge iMovie in HD--1:25 in length. When I first sent it to iDVD, the audio sync was off near the end. I was able to fix that, but now when I preview it in iDVD there are two places where the screen goes white for a second. When I check my iMovie, the white flashes are not there! The white flashes are not at transitions or chapter markers, but after a title put over a clip. I sent the iMovie to iDVD by dragging it. Anybody else experience this and have an explanation?

Sometimes the Preview function in iDVD doesn't work exactly right. Try Saving as a Disc Image from iDVD and then use Apple's DVD Player to see if the video functions correctly. "Save as Disc Image" creates a virtual DVD on your desktop that you can Copy to a physical disc using Roxio Toast or Apple's Disk Utility.

White Flash

When viewing sites using URL-Keeper mechanism I get a white flash between every page, only with Safari - Firefox is normal. I have tried 2.04 and 3.03b same result.
The flash is an intermediate white page or white state while loading? Only happening with Safari.

I have changed the encoding preferences in DVDSP, with no change.
I will try to change them like you said ever so slightly to see how that goes.
Even change the rendering option to 'Software' from 'Hardware'.
Boy did Software take forever & made no difference.
In the meantime I don't use the video thumbnails when I use the menu transitions.

White flash on screen before chapter plays

Hi,
In a project in iDVD '08, when selecting a chapter from the chapter menu screen, there is a white flash before a clip plays. This happens whether a button transition is on or off.
Is there a way around this?

Figured it out- this is an issue with the iDVD preview function. The white flash was not present on the disc image I burned.

My MacBook Pro just turned itself off while installing Windows 7. It has now got a black screen with a white flashing bar in the top left corner...what can I do?

I was just installing windows 7 onto my MacBook Pro. I selected to have 200GB for Windows and the rest leave for Mac.
I clicked install and the bar filled up as it should do. However, once the install had completed, my MacBook turned itself off. I assumed this was normal. Now, my MacBook has a black screen with a white flashing underscore in the top left corner.
What is wrong and what should I do?

Hold down the Option key when starting up then on the sceen that comes up select Mac OS X to boot from.
The Win 7 install didn't go well and is hung in some way. You should use boot camp assistant to remove the win partition and start over.
Make sure you are using a Retail version of Win 7. A Branded OEM version, like ones from Dell and HP, will NOT work to install Windows 7 on your Mac.

Hello; I've recently encountered a problem with bootcamp that I can't find a solution to... Every time I start up the computer in boot camp, all I get is that black screen with the white flashing line. It comes up, goes to a plain black screen, then quickly comes up again. It never stops, either. I've let it run, and it won't finish.
I've had the partition for MONTHS now, and nothing like this has happened. I've had it since I upgraded to Snow Leopard awhile back, and needed to re-partition the drive. I literally had been using it the day before it happened, and the only thing that happened was that I got that "Windows Security 2011" malware, but I got rid of it fully (As I've gotten it 3 times this month). The other two times I got it, it didn't do anything. I fixed it, and went on with life. But is it possible that it broke something in the partitions inner files this time?
I ran disk utility, and it said the partition was broken. After verifying it and confirming this, I did "Repair Drive", as it allowed me to. It finished with no errors and said it completed, so I tried to go back into the partition, but it gave me the same results.
To be honest, most of my stuff is on my External Harddrive, so re-doing the partition is only going to be time used to me. But I still DO have things on there, and it'd be a pain to transfer them back and forth between the Mac and Windows partitions... I'd really like to know if there's anyway to fix this, or if it's just going to fall back to me re-partitioning the drive...

That blinking line is a "cursor." It's only supposed to show for a second or two as your iMac switches to and then starts Windows. But as you indicate here, it's not getting past the cursor..
Disk Utility can repair FAT volumes, but it cannot correct issues caused by corrupted items which, if the volume was repaired, there may be some.
Since we are dealing with a Windows boot partition, it's entirely possible that the repairs inadvertently corrupted the data Windows needs to start and run. It's also posible that Mac OS, in fixing the Boot Camp volume, overwrote the existing boot record in the Windows partition with a generic, though non-bootable version.
Windows' own CHKDSK should have been used to make the repairs rather than the OS X Disk Utility, which would have avoided this worst-case scenario in data recovery. CHKDSK has a special version of itself on the Windows disc, which may be accesed by using the Windiws Recovery Consile upon pressing R during the "Welcome to Setup" screen.
Though it appears ftom my position here that you will need to reinstall XP, it may yet be possible to recover data that hasn't been copied to the external HDD. For this task, I'd like to recommend that you start up in Mac OS for the time being, and pull any new or changed items from the Boot Camp volume except for installed software; the latter are nearly impossible to transport with reasonable accuracy, and should instead be reinstalled.
Once you have what you need, format your Boot Camp volume and reinstall Windows, this time selecting NTFS as your filesystem. NTFS is the preferred option for Windows in general, thiaks to its innate file access controls as well as the ability to compress or encrypt data "on the fly." NTFS can be read by Mac OS X, but not written from it, thus NTFS volumes cannot be altered except by Windows itself.. But it is also a requirement if you plan to upgrade your unit using Windows 7 in future.

Ie white flash blink solution

hi,
just wanted to share that i've managed to get the menu to
work well in firefox, safari and chrome but in ie6 and sometimes in
7 it was blinking a white flash when changing between the menu
items.
to solve it all i had to do is remove this line from my code:

even when it was commented it was still doing it. i also
tried it with a combination adding the UTF8 attribute into the tag
but only removing it helped.

I dont see anything flashing in IE7, FF, i only see the arrow
disapearing and showing on mouseover in IE6. or is this what u
mean?

White flashes in qt7 playback

hello all.
I've noticed recently when I'm watching video in qt7, all avi's I'm pretty sure. there's randomly every so often a white flash, very quick, like a flash bulb. I've gone back in vids to see if it's in the vid itself, and it's not. I haven't timed them out yet to see if it's happening at regular intervals, I'd say it's no more than every 10-20 min at most. figured maybe someone here would have some info.
