White/Gray area around cursor

Hi guys, I am somewhat new to the whole Final Cut Pro X thing, and very inexperienced, but i just have a quick question. Whenever I move my cursor (red line) along the timeline of my project as I'm editing, there is a little white/gray/translucent area that follows the cursor everywhere, it is almost like a range thing. I limits my ability sometimes when I am using tools like the blade, and I can't be as precise as I would like to. Im sure I just have some option selected that I can get rid of, but is there any solution to getting rid of that little area so I can be more precise and do it more manually?
- Thanks

The pale bar is one frame of video. You're zoomed into the timeline. The playhead can only move in one frame increments; there are no subframe increments. The skimmer can move through the audio in subframe samples.

  • Pages gray areas around edges of document

    On Pages I have created a brochure and when I print it, it cuts off part of the brochure. I selected show layout and it showed these gray areas around the brochure where it was cutting off part of the brochure. I can't get these gray areas to go away. How do I get them to go away?

    I said they avoid the edges but since the non-printing borders vary from printer to printer, some can even print right to edges, a designer can only guess at what is reasonable. As Walt said, it is difficult to design a 3 fold brochure for the edge bleed because 1/3rd of the sheet isn't very big and the set back is quite large by comparison.
    When you fold the brochure it is only the outer edge that doesn't print so it can look quite unbalanced.
    You happened to pick the worst case, probably because it looked better on screen. It is laid out wrong too for the folds, they never allowed double the gutter to the insides of each leaf.
    My kids have used that one umpteen times for school projects. We also use metric A4 so the problem is not quite as bad as the shorter US Letter.
    I recognised the problem the first time they used the design and adjusted it to compensate.

  • Macbook does not shut down or restart. It stops at an blank white screen with the cursor moving around it. Updated to the latest software

    I have a Macbook Air 13.3" 2012 model. For a couple of days my Macbook does not shuts down. It just stops at a blank white screen with the cursor still hovering around it.  I have to shut it down forcefully every time using the power button.

    These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
    For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
              SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
    from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
    In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes.)
    Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Note the timestamps of the BOOT_TIME log messages, which refer to the times when the system was started. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
    For example, if the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down for three minutes before you forced a restart, post the messages timestamped within three minutes before the boot time, not after. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract—not at the beginning.
    If there are long runs of repeated messages, please post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
    ☞ When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
    ☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
    Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
              DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
    (not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
    There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". A shutdown stall report has a name that ends in ".shutdownstall". Select the most recent of each, if any. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot. It's possible that none of these reports exists.
    I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
    ☞ If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash or panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
    In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
    ☞ Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • Black and White Gray Scale Photos Are Dark When Exported from Indesign to PDF

    When I print right from InDesign the black and white photos look great.  However, if I print the exported pdf file, the black and white photos are much darker.  Is there something I should be doing upon export so that they will look as they do in InDesign?
    Thanks,

    I have tried different settings in format and color space all with the same results. I'm sure it has to do with system not being calibrated. I'm not to computer literate so not sure how all this works. The other programs must go along with my computer and moniter settings where LR and Elements produce their own rendering independent of settings. Yes, I checked and Elements renders like LR. I found some other forums that discussed similar problems but with color rendering. HMMM, just tried something. In Picassa I switched to Linear Gamma 2.2 in display mode and the LR edited photos look correct. So it must be something along those lines being the problem.

  • Gray squares around mouse pointer

    We have a macbook pro 15".  Occasionally the computer stops responding and there are gray squares around the mouse pointer as we move the cursor.  I called tech support and they said it was out of warrantee.   Any help here is appreciated..  I tried resetting the macbook (taking out the battery etc.) still have the problem.
    thanks
    M-

    Arghh - Universal Access, Zoom, Box follows mouse pointer!
    Don't know why I never spotted it earlier - maybe because it's not something I've ever used or needed to switch on.
    Weird it was on after the update though!

  • Thin white lines showing around shapes

    When I open a logo created in Illustrator in other programs such as acrobat or photoshop there are thin white lines showing around every object! Even on the inside of the surronding lines of an area colored using the live paint bucket (black area surrounden by black lines). I see no lines in Illustrator and there is no "stroke" on these objects (only fill). I have tried to save it to different formats (ai, eps and pdf because I want to keep it vectorized) but it doesn´t help. What can I do?

    They don't print. Search the Knowledgebase for "stitching" for an explanation.

  • Ugly Gray Borders Around My Paths

    It doesn't matter if I turn the stroke completely off of a path or not; Illustrator is still putting ugly gray borders around them.
    Here is a picture:
    http://peacepunk.net/images/uglyborder.jpg
    They appear around the curtains, around the bed (the red thing at the bottom), and the white part on top of the bed. (Actually, this has a stroke of black, but the gray stroke does this "dot dot dot" effect.)
    It looks incredibly ugly, and I don't know why it's there. Help? The zoom of this picture is at 100%.

    Wow, problem solved. I just changed the color mode from CMYK to RGB. Hope this helps out others with the same issue!

  • Gray box around images in PDF and when printing? Why?

    Hi,
    I'm using CS5 and I'm getting a gray box around any image embedded in my document.  The box comes if I click on it when a PDF and it prints around them.  I can't seem to figure this one out.  I'm not used to prepping files for print and I'm trying to send this out to someone who needs to print it.
    It's CMYK.
    I've tried to flatten transparency using both vector and rasterize.
    I've made sure the images are embedded.
    I can't figure this out!!
    Please, help.
    Thanks.

    does this look like your problem?

  • Remove gray rectangle around submit button?

    Is there a way to remove the gray rectangle that seems to be the footer area where the submit button is held? It looks pretty ugly to have that gray area after designing the rest of the form.
    Thanks,
    Steve

    This does mean though that you can make the footer color match that of your form by simply adding a header and changing its background color to match the form. In the attached screenshot is a form where I added a header, made it as small as possible by changing the font size to 8, and then made its background white.

  • Stage and gray area ?

    hi all of sudden my gray area where you can see my stage turn
    white this is really a pain for me because everytime i use white
    for my stage i cant see where my stuff is going , how can i turn
    the gray area which is white right now into gray again
    btw i went to window , workspace and default but that didnt
    fix the problem
    thank you

    As far as I know you would have to place your content into a movieclip or some other vehicle that you could scroll, but you would have to use a scroller internal to the swf file, not the browsers scrollbar.
    I have never tried this, but you could if you're up to it.  Instead of making your fla file 1000x6000, make it 400x 2400 and then specify it it to be 1000x6000 in the html embedding code.  If you have raster graphics you might or might not have a problem, though you could set them to allow smoothing so that when reduced in size they adjust better to their environment.
    Unless someone that knows better than me steps in to squash this, it might be worth a quick try at least.

  • Cleaning area around trackpad

    i was giving the area around the trackpad a little wipe since it was getting a little grey, but i can't help but notice that the extra white 'coating' pasted around fitting just around the keyboard is very absorbent when it comes to wet tissues. is this something i should be very concerned about? have i unknowingly drowned my macbook?
    (sorry if this sounds silly -- i'm just worried! a couple drops of water does no harm, right?)

    Hi Paula,
    I recall the pads you mention but can't exactly recall the site recommended that sells them. That said http://www.shinza.com/ has stuck in my mind for some weird and woderful reason.
    I'm pretty certain that was the site although a quick search through the site reveals the pads in question aren't there. I did find these ones though which may be of interest:

  • Expand document window to always have Nice Gray border around image

    Is there a command, or an Apple Script, or a hack of some sort (which I can assign to a function key) to EXPAND a document window so that I have a 100 pixel (or whatever) gray border around the image itself (not IN the image).
    I am processing around 4,000 pictures, and it would save me hand-drag-enlarging Every Single Window, especially as I often miss the grow-tab in the lower-right edge of the window bezel...
    Thanks!

    "Just keep pressing the 'F' key..."
    Yes, this is what I said above, and if you have multiple documents, it's a REAL PAIN.
    Perhaps if the 'F' key had only two modes, instead of four, it would be acceptable.
    As it is now, with multiple documents, the 'F' is just as bad as dragging the window enlarge tab.
    I've been asking Adobe for this for at least five years now. Given that many tools are best used when started OUTSIDE the image, I cannot understand how they could ignore this request !
    (Rant: Unless, of course, if user requests are treated internally as insults by Adobe. It sure feels that way)

  • White/Gray screen problem on my MacBook

    My early 2008 MacBook (white) had the White/Gray screen problem and i don't know how to fix it since it's my first mac. I'm currently running Mac OS X Lion (10.7.5) and this happened when it was low battery a few days before it had the problem and i kept it low on battery of about  2 days and when i plugged it back in and attached a Seagate external hard disk then i powered it on it's just white/gray and I've 5 mins. and still white/gray. Cmd+R don't work and it won't boot from a disk unless the internal hard drive is out. Please help me my warranty is not going to help and there are no Genius bar here, Thanks

    Can' see the picture you post, so not sure how your screen is, though resetting SMC as well as NVRAM(PRAM) could solve the problem.

  • Gray frame around flash buttons and more...

    Hi,
    1.I've used flash buttons in my home page,the problem is
    that when u view the page with explorer u see a gray frame around
    the buttons...
    It is so ugly...some one knows how to fix it without using
    the code?
    2. Another problem, the behevior "show pop up menu" is not
    valid,
    i've used it before on that page....
    i tried everything... i saved it ,linked it...
    i dont know what is the problem...
    thank you....if you can help
    Racheli

    I'm experiencing the same problems with my flash buttons. As
    you hover over them initially, a gray border surrounds them and an
    alt tag pops up that says "click here to activate this control."
    This confuses some of the visitors, becuase they perceive this as
    if the buttons do not work. I suspect it may be a browser specific
    problem...are there any quick fixes for this? Thanks for the help.

  • White spaces are required between publicId and systemId

    Hello,
    I'm new to Java/XML and have been searching the XML forums for a viable answer trying to get around this error
    "White spaces are required between publicId and systemId"
    I'm a little unsure of this, however my understanding of this error is that "whitespace" must exist between my "tag entities". So I have modified my XML document to include white space between entities...below is a snippet of my XML doc
    // Begin snippet...
    <auth>
    <userid>
    12345
    </userid>
    <first>
    first value
    </first>
    <second>
    </second>
    </auth>
    //End snippetBelow is the fragment of code I use to set up and parse the XML parse
          SAXParserFactory spf = SAXParserFactory.newInstance();
          //spf.setNamespaceAware(true);
          SAXParser saxParser = spf.newSAXParser();
          XMLReader parser = saxParser.getXMLReader();
          urlConnection = url.openConnection();
          in = urlConnection.getInputStream();
          ins = new InputSource( in );
          // create a handler
          Handler handler = new Handler();
          handler.setBVSessionData( bvdata );
          // assign the handler to the parser
          parser.setContentHandler(handler);
          parser.parse( ins ); // SAXException is thrown here...what gives??
    //...In addition, I'm able to read the XML file fine if I point the URL to the XML file locally on my PC, however when the XML doc is served by a web server over HTTP, then read by my app, the SAXException is thrown. Any insight or examples is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    In case anybody is interested here is what I've been able to find...thanks to a little helpful book "XML and Java 2nd Edition" [Maruyama, Tamra, Uramoto, Murata, Clark]
    Since I'm using a SAX parser the example doesn't really help. However the book references a DOM parser and uses a "getIsIgnorableWhitespace()" method which as my luck may have it is not available in SAX...
    The book goes on to state there are two ways to tell an XML processor or an application if certain whitespace is significant:
    1) "Define the significant whitespace in the content models in the DTD"
    2) "Specify the xml:space="preserve" attribute in an XML document in order to indicate the intent that applications preservce all whitespace"
    Can anybody elaborate on the above, especially #1 or even provide an example that would work with SAX. Thanks...
