White iphone 4 touchscreen dead spots

Hello Everyone,
I just bought an officially unlocked iphone 4 and there are dead spots on a specific part of the touchscreen. When I try to type in the virtual keyboard, some letters, numbers, and characters do not respond; 'w' and '2' and '/'.
I also tried to move apps around the same positions and they move back as if I removed my finger from the touchscreen.
I tried power off/on, reset holding sleep/wake button with power button for 15 sec, and restored the iphone to its original factory settings. None of those solved the problem .
Anyone facing this problem?? Is there any solution to this problem??
Your help is appreciated..

Solved (for me)
I had exactly the same issue - a portion of the screen on my 3G was unresponsive (the lower row of icons on the home screen) but seemed OK in SMS and Safari.
I tried backing up and restoring to no avail and was all set to book a date with the Genius bar... but guess what? I went to the movies last night and switched off my phone for at least 2 hours. When I switched it back on everything worked perfectly!

  • IPad mini Retina touchscreen dead spot

ok, my iPad mini retina's touchscreen occasionally becomes unresponsive in a small area near the top. hitting the sleep/wake and logging back in always fixes the issue. Anyone know what might be wrong? Maybe in need of a total reset and starting over?

If it has NEVER been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, read this.

  • IPhone Touchscreen Dead Zone - How Best To Get Support / Repair

I'm relatively new to the world of the Mac. My first Mac device was my iPhone and I was an early adopter and I immediately feel in love. It's ironic because I have been contracting to an Apple software development company for the last 4 years and have yet to own my own Mac.
Nevertheless, I was disappointed when my iPhone showed signs of a manufacturing or component defect. There is a strip across the bottom the screen that will not respond to touch input it all. It happens to be right along the area where you need to touch "Call" when manually dialing a number and covers the entire bottom row of the keyboard.
As I am new to all things Mac, I figured my best bet was to go to the nearest Apple Store in the hopes I could have my phone sent back for warranty repair and hopefully obtain a loaner phone while I wait for mine to get repaired.
When I got to the store, the staff member was quite helpful and asked me if I had upgraded (yes), restored (yes twice) and did a hard reset (yes). He confirmed that there seemed to be a problem, but then I learned that I needed to make a "genius bar" appointment to get the problem resolved. The next appointment wasn't for another 3 hours.
The person told me my best bet was to sign up for an appointment and come back to have my phone looked at. Since the store is not near my house or my work, this made it tough. I was disappointed, especially since it seemed obvious to both of us that I didn't need a "genius" to verify that my phone needed to be sent in for repair.
So, my question is, do I have any other options? Can I get support at my local AT&T store? What is the fastest way to get a replacement phone to use and get my phone back to Apple to get repaired?
Unable to make outgoing calls or to type the letters ZXCVBNM,
    Jerry
p.s. While at the Apple store, I did, however really fall in love with the 24" iMac which I am considering for my next purchase. Especially since I mostly do Ruby development these days.

    Jerry Brady,
First, are you using your iPhone with a case that has a magnetic closure, or near other magnets such as a money clip? If so, trying leaving the iPhone away from the magnets for a few hours and see if the issue clears up.
Second, you have a couple of options for obtaining service for your iPhone. The first one is through the Genius Bar, with either an appointment, or sign up for standby and wait for an available Mac Genius. You can make appointments online by selecting your store on http://www.apple.com/retail and then clicking on the link from that store's page.
The other option for service is through AppleCare, by calling 1-800-MY-IPHONE. They will want to troubleshoot and gather information, but can then set up the repair for you.
With either option, you can get a service iPhone as a loaner while your iPhone goes in for repair. It is FedEx'd both directions, and that is included in the repair. Typically 3-5 business days turn around.
There is more information in the Service FAQ which can be found here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/service/faq/
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • IPhone Dead Spot?

    Hi there,
I was just working away on the web, everything completely normal and all of the sudden I had a 1 and a 1/4 inch section just refuse to register my touch. So I rebooted it, restored and all around tried to get the thing to work. I've seen posts of similar things but I wanted some input as to what to do. I work in a secure location outside of the US so I can't go to an Apple Store. Any ideas, input?

    Hi Arthur,
I own and use a iPhone (Serial Nummer Week 28) about 6 months right now. Since three weeks a dead "row" startet to evolve and disappeared partially just right in the middle of the screen(seen from holding your phone upright).
The "dead row" on my touch screen now does not disappear anymore and widend a little bit and I barely cannot touch the "Send"-Button when finishing SMS and cannot use the "settings" button anymore.
Luckily I am on 1.1.3 now, where I can move and push the icons around and put useless Icons in the dead spot, but unfortunatly my iphone is dying from the touchscreen view and it is a pain to use when scrolling through my recent callers list, because it stops at the dead spot and triggers a call.
The reason why this is, is - I believe - I put my iphone most of the time in my backpocket and then sit in my car or on the floor in my house just on the screen. Then I realize - uups there is my iphone, have to put it out of the pocket, I guess it is too late and maybe I have sitten my touchscreen "through right in the middle".
In the meantime I bought a new one, and try to put it in my front pocket...
    best
    Rob

  • Dead Spot on iPhone

Has anyone on the forum experienced an issue with "dead spots" on your iPhone? I have approximately a 1/2 inch vertical strip near the bottom of my touchscreen that is unresponsive to touch.
Also, my power adapter wouldn't charge my phone and sent it back to Apple a couple of weeks ago however, the new adapter has not arrived.
Am I just unlucky or are these issues being experienced by other users of the iPhone?
    Thanks,
    kzib

I took it into the Apple store for repair. Here are the questions they will ask you:
    1. Is the "liquid immersion" marker activated (e.g. user dropped in liquid)
    2. What is the approx percentage of partial area multi-touch failures vs full are multi-touch failures?
    3. Did the user ever note if the unit had condensation on the surface out of box?
    4. Did the user ever note if the unit had condensation on the surface during normal use?
    5. Physical defect or - did you also see out of box? (sic)
    6. What was the time to failure? (how long it took to fail)?
    7. Is the failure always reproducible or intermittent?
Looks like the Apple techs think its condensation related. I did not notice any condensation - I do travel a lot so the change in environment might affect it: pressure and/or humidity.

  • My iPhone 3GS has dead spots on the left side of the screen, does anyone know how this problem has started or how I can fix this?

Over the past couple of months, my iPhone 3GS has had dead spots on the left side of the screen, preventing me from using the r, d and x keys, the number 4 and the semi colon and comma keys. Does anybody have any ideas on why this has happened or any ideas that I'll be able to fix this problem?
Just a note; I can't put my phone to sleep or turn off as my lock button isn't working, so I'm using the AssistiveTouch settings.
    Thanks.

This has no impact on the ability to purchase a new iPhone... it simply means that the newer one will not be at a fully subsidized price.
You could always take it to Apple and do an Out of Warranty exchange (I'm assuming the device is out of warranty) for $149 US.

  • My Iphone 3GS has dead spots

Hi i bought my iphone of ebay around a year or so ago it's well out of wareenty but suddenly i got some dead spots on my screen in all 4 corners, It was weird as it was working fine earlier. So i done some digging about and found it's probably a hardware problem and that some people even tho it was out of wareanty had their phone replaced due to it being a known problem so am wondering if i took it into an Apple store would it be replaced or would i have to pay for a repair or even a new phone?
I know the 3gs is only now made in 8gb if they even still do that anymore but i have the 16gb but would happily take an 8gb if offered (i doubt it tho) but anyone got any idea what i should do? got really nothing to lose by asking but would like other opinions.

Well i'm in the UK and in most cases people have said the problem isn't fixable and they u=just recieved a knew phone i know its a long shot but might be worth a try, but i'm still to try a factory reset as i recently upgraded to IOS 6.1.3

  • Iphone LCD screen dead spot

Hey I have an iphone that I got from a friend as a gift never activated it but it seem as though it has dead spots how do I replace the LCD screen and will apple take it back. I don't know, I had it for a while without even looking at because to be honest I liked my blackberry. So how do I go about getting this fix; do I have to pay extra to get this fix or is it unfixable. I don't have a reciept and my friend didn't keep it. So should I bother with this phone because I'm not going to activate or bother signing up for a plan if this thing isn't going to work.

I've had my iPhone since August with no problems. I love it. Just this morning the very bottom part of the touch screen became unresponsive. The rest of the screen is fine. It's like the sensor in just that part of the screen has gone dead for some reason. Of course this also happens to be the part of the screen where you "slide" to answer a call, and also access the phone, mail, safari, and iPod icons. Also the "slide" to unlock the phone is located in this area. Basically this malfunction has rendered my iPhone unusable. I have turned it off and on, and also reset and restored it through iTunes. None of that works. It appears to be a hardware issue and not software. I wonder if this is a problem that will occur widespread in iPhones after several months use, or if my problem is somewhat isolated?
I'm frustrated as EVERYTHING is on my iPhone. I have an appointment tomorrow at the Genius Bar to have it checked out. Thank goodness I'm near an Apple store or I would be even more frustrated. I also have everything updated and saved on iTunes so it will be easy to personlize my iPhone again once the problem is fixed.

  • What to do with a dead spot right where you unlock the iphone

I was sitting in my office chair when my iphone fell out of my pocket there is a very large crack in the top left hand corner of the screen, this has created a dead spot right where you slide the thing to open the iphone, so now i can not get into my iphone, i can double click the home button and press the play button to listen to music because there is no dead spot there, my question is if simply replacing the screen would fix it, if i can possibly fix this problem at home or have to go to apple, and if so how much would a repair like this cost? thank you

The Out-of-Warranty service price for an iPhone 3GS is $149, it's a flate rate.
More info about service and pricing is available here -> Service Answer Center - iPhone
You can always search the web and get a do-it-yourself kit for less. Of course, if your iPhone is under warranty and you crack it open to repair it, you could cause more problems and void the warranty in the process.

  • How do I use my iPhone's hot spot to send email with Mail ?

    Hi,
My land line is dead ... so no phone nor internet at home.  But I can use my iPhone'hot spot to get on the web from my iMac.  Great ... it works !
Oups !   I cannot send email from my computer using my iPhone's hot spot with Mail.
How do I do that ?
    Regards.
    Robert Lespérance

    Hi Templeton Peck,
Thanks for droping in my thread ...
Doesn't the fact that I can surf the web with my iPhone's hot spot and that I cannot use Mail normally has I normally do give you a clue what the problem could be ?
What other information can I give you other than normally I can surf and send email with my regular ISP.  Now that my ISP is dead I am using my iPhone's hotspot to surf the web awaiting that my ISP's connoection returns. Surfing is OK but I cannot send emails with through Mail.
When I want to send an email from my computer, I get a message asking me to select the the SMTP server.  Then I select my usual ISP server, but the message comes back telling me it does not work.
Is there any other configuration to do ?

    Dead Spot-Top of the Screen
I see some problems with the bottom of the screen but here the problem is with the top of the screen.

Maps - I can't type any direction on the search field.
Stocks - I can't select the first stock on the list.
Clock - World Clock - Edit - I can't select the Done button.
Safari - When the Phone is horizontal I can't select the Add Bookmark or the Back button.
iPod - When the Phone is horizontal I can't select the play button.
Please let me know how can I fixed or how can I change my iPhone, I'm working in McAllen Texas and the only Apple Store near to here is the one that is in San Antonio, so its like 3 hours driving, what can I do?

If they try and make u pay for a loaner phone, be insistant that they give u one free of charge! I had to send mine in for repairs, but talked them out of the $30 loaner phone fee..only makes sense that we shouldn't have to pay! cheers

  • Digitizer/Dead spots

i have an iphone it works great in some places but i have a couple of dead spots. the phone, email, safari, and ipod icons dont work at all. since i have these dead spots on the bottom row of the phone and also in the middle of the phone. Would buying a new digitizer make the whole touch screen brand new? or is there any other way to fix this major problem? PLEASE HELP

    Hi,
Try the general tips in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1650#faq5
You can also try restoring the iPhone to rule out software issues. This article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305744 will walk you through restoring the iPhone.
If the issue persists the iPhone will need hardware repair. You can get the iPhone repaired or replaced by making a reservation to have a Genius at a local Apple retail store take a look at it or calling AppleCare.
    http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/
    U.S. iPhone technical support: 1-800-MY-IPHONE (1-800-694-7466)
If the iPhone warranty or AppleCare Protection plan has expired, the iPhone can be repaired for a Out-of-Warranty Repair Service fee listed here: http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/service/faq/#warranty7

  • Help-Dead spots on my Screen

My iphone is experiencing dead spots on the top portion of my screen. My dilema is that I bought this iphone and move to Canada this year, now i am worried that my phone will not be covered by warranty. Can anyone please give me some suggestion or help?

Those are dead pixels. Take the phone to an apple store and set up an appointment with a genius bar member. They will most likely give you a replacement phone. The dead pixel is hardware issue and cannot be cured by software

  • Dead spots and pops.

    Hello everyone
Well I'v been using Logic Pro 7.2 for a couple months and loving it. I don't have a high-end studio just my G4 Powermac 2x 1.6, 1.5 gig of ram. but Im starting to notice when play some EXS24 sampler or my plug-in's Im getting pop's or cut out in sound while playing. Now I was told that my internal sound card build in my G4 should be ok(digital Audio). But is this being caused by not having a better sound card. Since Im learning and don't need high end system, could this be stopped by getting a AudioPhile 192 sound card. For the price it seem pretty good, or maybe not I could be wrong. All i have is my midi keyboard and padkontrol and I just want to be able to play all sample with out hearing dead spot while playing or click and sometime pops. It seems like when i get to 8 voices ,but most of the time it never goes past 11 voices, that when I start to hear it. But not all the time. OK well I would love anyone feed back,
    thank you for your time.

    Hi Carl,
On my tower ( similar to yours ) I could do about 500 voices ( quick test ) using internal audio system 256 and 48000 - this system is well optimized for audio and Software development... but you should not get 2% the polyphony I do. In fact, that setting performed better using internal ( vs, internal ) for the test... whatever. The real problem lies somewhere in the setup, settings...
How many drives are you using?
What does Activity Monitor tell you is happening? - anything suspicious?
If you may say your lso originated from a session that could be old, run setup asst and create a new one - usually, performance will be better with a fresh template. I have recieved windows sessions and worked with corrupt sessions that behaved this well...
any 3rd party AUs at the time this happens?
Are you reading your samples of the System Volume or a volume on the same drive?
Tried this with Virtual memory ( for EXS24 ) on? off? - if on, configure it to allocate the most memory.
    Any other audio apps?
How do you fare in GB? ( GB's sampler is essentially an EXS24 engine in a box with a white label and plain black letters - just a generic UI over the sampler engine )
