White light stays on during sleep mode.

When my imac intel goes to sleep the white light blinks only for a short while and then stays on. Is this a problem? I have had this imac since Feb 06 and it just started doing this recently.

blinks going hard drive is sleeping, then stays steady on when display is only asleep
this is the normal proceedure
check your energy saver preference.
things can get more complicated if your display & hard drive are set to sleep at same time

  • White 24" iMac lockup during sleep mode

I have recently been having problems with my iMac it won't wake from sleep and has to be unplugged and restarted or every time it goes to sleep it locks up. The light on the front is on but not flashing as it normally does during sleep. I run Onyx frequently and it does not seem to help for long(Maybe 2 days max) I am at the point where I am only using XP in Bootcamp because it seems to run much better than OS X.
    Here are my specs:
24" iMac 250 GB internal drive, 500 GB firewire 800, 2 GB Ram.
USB devices: Wacom Intuos 3 tablet, logitech NuLOOQ, HP Deskjet 5940, VXI USB Translator(USB Audio device for speech recognition) Sentinel Safenet Dongle for Lightwave 3d.
Bluetooth devices:Mighty Mouse and Keyboard, Motorola HT820 headset for Telephony
I have disconnected everything I can and it still seems to lock up under OS X So it looks like I'm stuck with XP until I can resolve this. >:(....

First - you aren't disconnecting any device while your computer is asleep are you? This can cause your problem.
Assuming this isn't the cause, let's do an SMC reset. Shut down the computer. Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord and any display cables. Wait at least 15 seconds. Plug the power cord back in, making sure the power button is not being pressed at the time. Then reconnect your keyboard and mouse to the computer. Press the power button on the back to start up your computer. Does it now sleep and awake?
If not srojtas is right that one of your peripherals may be the culprit but rather than disconnecting one at a time I recommend that you disconnect everything but your ethernet cable (assuming you have one) and your USB mouse and keyboard. Create a new account and set the computer so that you have to choose which account to log into.
Restart and log in directly into the new account. If it sleeps and wakes up now you know that the issue is your account or one of your devices. One at a time, connect (and install support software for) a device. Does the computer wake and sleep? Move on to the next. You may find the culprit along the way. Removing it may or may not let the computer sleep depending on whether it is the device itself or the software.
BTW - the device at fault could be a USB or FireWire hub.

I have an iMac (Mid 2010) and am running 0sx 10.8.5 and the WiFi always loses connection during sleep mode. I have seen numerous different solutions none of which seem to work. Can anyone help?

Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved. Make sure the box marked
Remember networks this computer has joined
    is checked.
    2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading
Symptom: After restarting or waking from sleep, my computer might not connect to the Internet
    3. Reset the PRAM.
    4. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    5. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
    6. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    7. Repair permissions on the startup volume.
    8. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
    9. Reset the System Management Controller.
    10. This step shouldn't be necessary, but has been advised by Apple Support in some cases, apparently as a workaround for a bug. Open the Energy Saver pane in System Preferences. If applicable, click the padlock icon in the lower left corner to unlock the settings. Enter your administrator login password when prompted.
Select the Power Adapter tab and uncheck the boxes marked
              Wake for Wi-Fi network access
    and
              Enable Power Nap...
if present. Then, if the computer is a MacBook, select the Battery tab and uncheck
              Enable Power Nap...
    11. Reinstall OS X.

  • Why wont my razor turn on ? solid white light stays on .

why wont droid razor turn on ? white light stays on.

I had a similar problem. The phone wouldn't turn on at all, though when I pressed the power button a white light would come on briefly, then one time it came on and stayed on, but that was all. I was told (by Verizon) that once the phone discharges all the way to zero it can be difficult to start up again even if it is plugged into the charger. Plugging it into the charger in the house didn't work, but I tried the car charger and it started charging right away.  My theory is that the wall outlet charger does not have enough "oomph" to kick start the phone if it is totally depleted, but the car charger must have more (what? volts/amps I'm no electrical expert) whatever it needs to bring it back and start it charging. Once it got going (at 20%) I brought it back into the house and it charged OK.  Wish I would've though of this when the other phone did this a few weeks ago! What I'm thinking is that the outlet charger needs to be redesigned to fix this problem.  There is a very good chance that, no matter how good you are about keeping your phone charged, there will be that one time that it discharges down zero and then . . .

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2319
Russa, from the KB article you linked notice that those maintenance scripts are no longer invoked by cron. They are invoked by launchd:
    Additional Information
The tasks are scheduled for 03:15 to 05:30 in your computer's local time zone. This is described further in "Mac OS X: Unexplained Disk Activity Produced by 'find' Process." These tasks do not run if the computer is shut down or in sleep mode. If the tasks do not run, it is possible that certain log files (such as system.log) may become very large in Mac OS X v10.5 or earlier.
Therefore no user intervention is required, unless you are running Mac OS X "Leopard" or earlier.
It may seem overly pedantic to bring this up but this common misconception has a tendency to lead people into believing a Mac requires the user to perform maintenance over and beyond what OS X already accomplishes by default.
As others have written, a Mac takes care of its own housekeeping. It is best to simply let it work as designed.

  • Charging iPod nano on an Intel iMac during Sleep Mode by Firewire

    Hi everybody,
I have a question concerning the iPod nano. I know that you can not sync the iPod by Firewire but you can charge it. I also know that charging the nano via USB during Sleep mode is NOT possible. However I had a 3G IPod (connected by Firewire) and it was possible to charge it when the Imac was in Sleep mode. And here comes my question:
There is a special cable for iPods, which has both Firewire AND USB. Is it possible to connect the IPod simultaneously by Firewire and USB to the Imac with the result, that the nano will charge during sleep mode (Firewire) AND is able the sync music (USB) ???
    Thank you

    Hi lora,
Don't do it! See this post:
Using the iPod Dock Connector to FireWire and USB 2.0 Cable
Which states this: "Important: Never connect both the FireWire and the USB 2.0 connector to your computer at the same time. Doing so can cause unexpected behavior."
    Good luck,

  • Severe battery loss during sleep mode

I have a brand new MBAir and I'm trully intrigued about the loss of batery happening during sleep mode. I've fully charged it on Friday, and, since then it's been on sleep mode. Today, finally turnign it on this night to work a bit, I found it has only 73% of charge! What can be happening? IMPORTANT: My "power nap" mode is OFF since I've bought it and started using and noticing this down charge. Can anyone help me?

I've just solved it all when I noticed I kept plugged in my wireless mouse receptor. Just plug it out before leaving the MBA in sleep mode, and the problem was solved.

  • IMac 2009 (21 inch) making hard drive noises during sleep mode - normal??

    Hi there guys,
I have an iMac 21 inch (2009) , 3ghz C2D, 4GB Ram, 1TB hard drive (the hard drive was upgraded straight thru apple, when i bought it i paid extra for a 1tb hard drive, its not a DIY hard drive upgrade)
aniways, I recently noticed that during sleep mode, occasionally (not all the time) I can hear some faint clicking / hard drive noise, which is really weird because i put the imac in sleep mode and it really shouldnt be doing that no?
My 13 inch macbook pro 2010 never does this in sleep mode, its always dead silent
Im just wondering if this hard drive accessing / clicking noise during sleep mode is normal in imacs??

Im just wondering if this hard drive accessing / clicking noise during sleep mode is normal in imacs?
No it should not be doing anything but sleeping. The SMC controls sleep, try resetting it.
    Reset the SMC
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Detach the computer's power cord.
    • Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    • Release the power button.
    • Reattach the computers power cable.
    • Turn on the computer.

Trying to decipher the system log seems to indicate a problem with my USB hub, the iMac doesn't seem to be able to communicate with it. This has happened before - usually there are no applications open and the computer is in sleep mode. The problem then occurs when I try to wake it; usually a light blinks on the Iogear hub for a short time and then goes out - when I get a panic, three lights stay on continuously, the fans are whirring and absolutely nothing happens, the screen remains black. There also is no pulsating light on the front bezel of the iMac. The only solution is a forced shutdown. Once I restarted, all seemed well again. BTW, this hub (hub/card reader combo) does not have any lights on when everything is working as it should.
I also just remembered that occasionally, my keyboard or mouse (both plugged into the hub) will become unresponsive; once I unplug them and plug back in, they're fine. I've already tried a different hub (Macally) and the very same thing happened. I don't know if these could be related?

    Hi, Barbara.
    The line
    Unresolved kernel trap(cpu 0): 0x400 - Inst access
in your panic log indicates an 0x400 (Instruction Access) panic. An 0x400 (Instruction access) panic occurs when the processor cannot access the next instruction to be executed.
Potential causes include RAM problems, hard disk corruption, and programming errors. "Programming errors" in this case can include invalid instructions and violations of protected memory, however it is often difficult to differentiate a programming error from a RAM or hard disk problem since the latter two issues can cause a valid instruction to appear invalid. Likewise, this opens the door to the potential for processor errors, i.e. defective processor or other problems with the logic board.
Kernel loadable modules in the backtrace are flagging
    com.apple.iokit.IOSCSIArchitectureModelFamily(1.4.4)@0x52c000
This indicates an issue with "...SCSI, USB (Storage), FireWire SBP-2 and ATAPI devices."as described here.
It could very likely be the USB hub/card-reader combo you cited, or it could be a deeper problem with your Mac. Does the problem occur when you have media in the card reader of the USB hub/card-reader combo?

  • Getting the ipad to stay in standby/sleep mode

I use my Ipad as an alarm clock when I am on the road.  I put it in standby mode but it keeps coming out which is annoying when you are trying to sleep.  How do I get it to stay in sleep mode but still wake me up?

    Dedington-
If you double click the Home button, a list of recent Apps shows up across the bottom of the screen.  If you press and hold on one, they start to wiggle and a red minus sign appears on each.  Tap the minus sign of all Apps other than the one for your alarm clock.  That removes them from the list, and stops any that might be running in the background.

  • Blue/White light staying on all the time - Houston, is there a problem?

I use a 1tb Free Agent drive for Time Machine, and it has a blue-ish white light that comes on when it's working. For instance, it always comes on when I wake up the machine.
This morning, it's on - and it's staying on. The drive is not full. It appears to be backing up properly. But the darn light is on. So I ask, Houston - do we have a problem here?
    Thanks.

Open the Time Machine panel of System Preferences to see what Time Machine is doing. I'd also look at the Spotlight icon at the right end of the menu bar. If there's a dot in the middle of it, Spotlight may be trying to index the external drive. If you don't want it to do that, you can add the drive the the Privacy tab of the Spotlight panel of System Preferences.

Okay, so I love my Mac and I freak out every time I notice something weird. Call me crazy.

Whenever my Mac mac goes into sleep mode (idle) and I try to reach my log in screen, a blank black screen shows up. I can move the cursor around however, it takes 10 seconds for my user screen to show up. I restarted my computer and it's doing the exact same thing. Should I be concerned?

  • Pismo shuts off during sleep-mode

    Hi
I realized that my Pismo occasionally shuts off while in sleep mode. When I press a key to wake it up the pulsating green light turns off and I need to press the on/off-key. The computer then reboots normally.
    Thanks! Felix

    Hi
In meantime, it is not "occasionally" but always.
    1. PMU-reset with the small button on the rear did not help either.
    2. I believe I cannot hear the HD after opening the lid. The flashing green light turns off. I simply press the on/off-button and the Pismo starts up as if I turned it off.
    3. HDD is new, Seagate 120 GByte.
Actually a few weeks ago I obtained a Pismo with a defect power borad and swapped CPU-cards due to my bad L2-cache. Worked great!
Afterwards I realized, that the casing of the other Pismo was in much better shape (mine has a crack next to the bottom Apple-logo and a very shiny upper part). What I finally did was the following:
Stripped both down to the point where practically the logic board and metal frame was the last part in there.
Built up on the lower part of the ebay-Pismo with my power-board and practically all other parts from my own functioning Pismo and with the new HDD. Upper case and keyboard is from the ebay-Pismo, which was apparently used very little.
I guess I will take everything apart again and make sure that my own logic board runs in there. Maybe the logicboard of the eBay-Pismo was damaged together with the power boards and AHT doesn´t recognize it (System Profiler shows an error with regards to the sound system, but sound works).
Strange, if I could only tell whether this is hardware related.
    Thanks for any input

  • Why does my mac mini shutdown during sleep mode?

After I put the Mini into sleep mode, it shuts itself off after a few hours.  I tried resetting the SMC per instructions from another forum post (turn the Mini off; pull the power cord for 10 seconds; plug back in; wait 5 seconds; turn the Mini back on) but that didn't work.  Anything else I can try?
    Thanks,

  • IPod Touch turns off when shaken during sleep mode & other problems

I noticed a problem with my iPod Touch around a month after I bought and I thought it was normal for the iPod Touch to act that way but it seemed rather getting into my nerves. I will try to describe the situation the best way I possibly could so please bear with me.
First, I have a problem with my iPod when it's at sleep mode. When I press the home button too look at the time/date for example and then I shake it or move it before it blacks out and goes back to sleep mode again, it hangs up and I have to press the power & home button to turn it off. It happened all the time and it gets really annoying because when friends borrow it, it dies.
The same thing happens when I play a song and then I don't put it to sleep mode. When I shake it, it hangs up.
Second, when I use my iPod at night before sleeping to listen to music and the like, the moment I wake up, the battery is totally drained. I am DEFINITELY sure that no song was playing at that time and it was even fully charged. Last night I decided to monitor my iPod on a regular basis to see at what point in time the battery starts to diminish. I fell asleep but when I woke up at around 10 to check my iPod, the screen is black and yet it's on because the screen is glowing. I restarted it and when it went on again, the applications are all disarranged.
Third, there are duplicate songs in my iPod although when I check in my iTunes to delete the songs, it only appears as a single song but it is in duplicate in my iPod.
    What do I do? Thanks!

It may be a hardware problem.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
