White line on bottom of the Retina Display?

Hello.
I've noticed on the bottom of my iPhone 4's screen is a white/gray horizontal line aprox. 5 pixels (hard to judge) that rests at the very bottom (near the home button) of the screen. It's very easy to see if the screen is displaying a black image. It looks like maybe the back light shining through. Kind of hard to distinguish backlight leakage versus a screen issue. With a color image, I can't notice the line- only when the screen is dark. I can't stop my eye from seeing it now.
I went to the Apple Store and downloaded a simple black image on a display unit to check. While tough to see with the intense store lighting- I think I saw it on their display unit as well..
Do you guys see it on your phones and do you think it's normal or should I make an appointment with a Genius during the store's busiest period?
Thanks!

  • Can I turn off the retina display feature on the new MacBook Pro?

    Hello,
I recently got the new MacBook Pro with Retina display. I love how fast this machine performs, it's weight and thickness.
However, working in Advertisement, this machine's made my line of work a bit too pixelated. There are no websites optimized for this new display, making portfolios hard to see as the retina screen makes things blurry and fussy looking. Not only that, but non of the Adobe products are ready for this technology either. It's hard to open a piece of software you'd like to design with and work with pixelated tools (photoshop among others).
I can do without the Ethernet port, optical drive and the lack of a locking system for this machine. But, making things uglier on the web isn't something I'm willing to sacrifice since is my line of work. Any idea of a third party that can turn this feature off?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, this beauty is going back to the Apple store.

sorry, but the 2880x1800 is hardware; in fact what makes non-optimized sites look (relativly) ugly is that to upscale the graphics to the apparent resolution of everything else each pixel is represented by 4 pixels, and as you know being in graphics, upscaling pictures is generally results in ugly.
Back to my point, there's no software to make the display lose 75% of its pixels; you'll either have to use another machine and/or wait for sites to optomize their graphics for the retina displays...which may or may never happen depending on the sites awareness/closeness with Apple's technology

  • Printing borderless leaves white line at bottom of print

    Hi,
being frustrated with the PS CS3 off center printing issue, I now try to print my pictures out of LR. But here, I have a problem printing borderless as well: Im am using an Epson 2400 on an IntelMac running OS 10.4.10.
E.g. when I want to print a borderless 4x6 print, already the LR preview indicates that there will be a white line on the bottom of the image. This is then confirmed when I print. Same for other print sizes. I set all margins to zero in LR, chose borderless in the printer driver... I tried to trick the software by creating a custom paper size, but so far, nothing helps.
Is this an LR flaw?? ( I am running LR 1.2)
    Thanks for your ideas.
    Anne

    Hi,
I finally got a workaround, if someone is interested: I wrote myself the following instruction now:
Avoiding white line on bottom of LR borderless prints:
    for 4x6 prints:
Page setup: choose 4x6 sheet feeder borderless
Create a custom paper size: 4.00x6.02 (6.01 does not work) with margin ON TOP of 0.01 in, save as "4x6 borderless"
In the printer driver menu choose "Paper Handling" from drop down menu. Click the Scale to fit paper size and choose the new custom size "4x6 borderless".
The expansion is set to maximum, but since this method worked, I have not tried to reduce the expansion in order to see what the effect is. (I have wasted already enough paper and ink)
The prints now don't have a line on the bottom anymore.
The white line on the bottom of the print preview in LR, however, is still visible.

  • White line now appearing down middle of display screen today

My iMac of 2006 Tiger OS has had problems with thin, coloured vertical lines appearing on the screen since December '12.  At that time I got a lot of responses and an indication that the problem was the ATiRadeon X1600 GPU.  The thin vertical lines have increased a bit and I'm now up to 3 on the right and 1 on the left which haven't been any problem.  However, just now a white line appeared almost down the middle of the display screen?  It blanks out the places where it actually runs.  It's very thin but noticible.  I have taken a screen shot and viewed it in Preview.  None of the lines show there?  Any further ideas for a fix?  I have a Seagate HDD attached so all is being backed up.  Thanks!  Illa

Lot's of folks had those lines after 1 or 2 years. There was even an Extended Warranty Program for a time, but it lapsed 2 or 3 years ago.
Personally I'd say that we have both faired very well over the years, my Early 17" Core Duo didn't start getting lines until towards the end of it's 6th year.

  • How tow connect two external displays that are not mirrored and turn of the retina display

    Hello,
    I have two questions:
    1.  Is it possible to use two external displays either mirrored or not and turn off the retina display, and if so how it is done?
    2.  Is it possible to close the MBP and use an external keyboard while using two external displays?
I am using a music production DAW Persons Studio One-2 Pro and it would be great to be able to have this type of a setup.
    Thank You,

    Hi Breezinabout,
The MacBook Pro Late 2013 retina display model will support two external displays. See this specifications page for reference -
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) - Technical Specifications
    Specifically -
Dual display and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on up to two external displays, both at millions of colors
    And -
    Thunderbolt digital video output
    Native Mini DisplayPort output
DVI output using Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter (sold separately)
VGA output using Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter (sold separately)
Dual-link DVI output using Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter (sold separately)
    HDMI video output
Support for 1080p resolution at up to 60Hz
Support for 3840-by-2160 resolution at 30Hz
Support for 4096-by-2160 resolution at 24Hz
You would, if you wish, turn off the internal display by closing the MacBook Pro, which is called "closed-clamshell" mode. It requires you to have an external keyboard and mouse. See this article for further information -

  • The very best thing about the retina display

Do you know what is the best thing about the retina display? the answer is they've solved the issue of the dead and stuck pixels thing you know how because the pixels are very very small so u can't see if it's working or not some day you will walking around holding your new ipad and you don't even know the plenty pixels that are dead and you can't notice them HAHAHA that was a good one LOVE YA APPLE.

I doubt that's the reason Apple spent the money on retina displays, but a good observation.

  • When will Adobe Flash Builder 4.6 support iOS 5.1 and the retina display?

I have installed Adobe Flash Builder 4.6 along with the Adobe AIR 3.3 SDK and am understanding that there isn't support for iOS 5.1 nor the Retina display devices, is this correct?  If so, when will this be available?  If not, what is a good workaround?
    Thanks,
    N.M.

note sure if I'm much help other than to CONFIRM it is working for me by using the sdk WITHOUT the compiler. Check out adobe's little note: "Note : Flex users will need to download the original AIR SDK without the new compiler."
I am using FB 4.7 with AIR 3.6 and seems to compile correctly for iOS.
    Maybe try reinstalling flash builder?
I honestly don't know if the JRE has anything to do with it... I'm using 1.7 ....to see what JRE you're using, open the Java Control Panel (I right click my java orange icon and hit properties), select the Java tab, then hit "View..."

  • Is 256 gb flash storage enough on the retina display Mbp?

I am going to college and can't decide between the baseline 15 inch MacBook pro with 500 gb hard drive and the baseline retina display. While the speed and slender design of the retina display are certainly appealing, I am concerned that the 256 gb of flash storage will not be enough in the long run. I mean, I will not be running the entire adobe suite, but I will definitely be running the entire Microsoft office for Mac suite (word, excel, powerpoint, and outlook),as well as the adobe photoshop cs6 extended program. I will also run iTunes with a library of roughly 800 songs, as well as various apps that may exceed 30 to 40 gbs potentially. I will also store some photos and movies on there, and I am looking into getting an external hard drive to backup my computer to. So for your basic college student that will mainly be using office, surfing the web, and using iTunes, is 256 gb enough? I also am seeing a lot of complaints about defective retina display computers on the discussion boards, and I was wondering if those are making up a large portion of retina displays being sold.

It feels to me like Apple intended the Retina MBP for users who would be using cloud storage a lot more than people have in the past. For example, if your media is purchased from iTunes, it stays in the cloud instead of taking up space on your hard drive, so you don't need as much onboard storage.
I've often wondered if this was wishful thinking on Apple's part, hoping that people would start using iTunes and iCloud more, and it remains to be seen if that will be the case. I really think the Retina MBP was designed for that.
I'm not trying to discourage you from getting one. It's more like, I'm hoping these thoughts (and I may be wrong), will help you make a good decision based on your usage habits. It's an awfully large investment, after all, and one that you'll have to live with for a long time.
