White line on jpeg export from Indesign CS 6

A white line is seen on the right edge of the jpeg when exported from Indesign CS6. We export these jpegs at 300dpi on RGB mode and use Windows 7 as OS.

same thing here with DV files - and after the upgrade to 7

  • Stitch lines created in a PDF/X-1a due to transparency flattening during export from InDesign

Has there been any sure fire methods to avoid the digital stitch lines created in a PDF/X-1a due to transparency flattening during export from InDesign? If I attempt to edit the PDF using the Acrobat Edit Text and Graphics tool the PDF is actually carved into sectors and images are not selectable as a whole. Also contrary to what I have read those white lines do indeed image from time to time. I could export as PDF/X4 to preserve the transparency but on occasion it would be advantageous to flatten it before supplying to the printer. Currently using CC and have done the usual things in an attempt to avoid the lines such as all text above transparent objects on a separate layer and 'Clip-Complex-Region' on export.
    Thanks in Advance!

If the default High Res flattener preset is stitching make a custom preset that's all rasters and use it in the advanced tab of the PDF/X-1a preset

  • Jpegs can't be resized after exporting from InDesign

I am using Indesign CC9.2.  A problem has recently developed where I cant resize a jpeg.  It doesnt matter file size or settings.  I have tried every combination.  I export a simple document to jpeg and save to my desktop.  I open the file in Preview.  I resize it, and an error message states "this change cannot be saved".
This only happens with Jpegs I have exported from Indesign. No problems with jpegs from any other source.  Any ideas?

But only with RGB images you are able to save the resized file, not with CMYK.
But the same problem comes with most of free image editors, they don't suppoert CMYK.
Maybe that Kristine should export as RGB, then she will be able to scale it or scale it upon JPG export from InDesign.

  • Strange quirk (?) with my pdfs exported from Indesign opened in PS

I have created an 8 page brochure in Indesign and there is plenty of white space (just blank paper) at the top of each page - that's how I've designed it.
Exported from Indesign and it looks fine, just like any other PDF. Open with Reader and the white space is still there.
Export pages as Jpegs and teh white space is there.
Open PDF pages in Photoshop and Photoshop actually crops the white space at the top away! the top of the page becomes the first element on the page (in this case, a text box)
As an experiment, on two different pages I placed a random vector squiggle near the top of the pages to put something into the white space. Strangely, each page then comes into Photoshop as a different sized (height) page: photoshop seems to be almost (but not quite) taking the frame of each squiggle as the starting point of the top of the page.
White space at bottom of page comes in fine - it is not chopped off. Entire document is as I would expect except the strange chopping off of the top of the pages!

Typical!! - I solved the problem right after posting this.
Works fine in Photoshop when "crop to crop box" is selected in  the menu options.

  • Auto-generated links exported from InDesign do not work in tablet apps

Hyperlinks automatically detected and exported from InDesign CS6 8.0.1 as a PDF work fine on the desktop version of Acrobat Reader. However, on the iPad version of Adobe Reader as well as iBooks and GoodReader, these links are completely ignored, meaning they are just text.
On the other hand, if I was to manually set the hyperlink in InDesign or Acrobat, the link works fine.
It would be extremely tedious and time consuming to manually reset hundreds of hyperlinks in my documents since InDesign use to handle this correctly.
Is this a bug? If so, it's pretty serious and should be Adobe's priority to fix since millions of people read documents on tablet devices.

No, it's a Feature of Acrobat and reader that they attempt to create links from anything that "looks like" a URL. Other readers lack the feature.
It's not good practice to depend on this in any case as it's hardly foolproof even in Acrobat. Links that break across lines, for example, will not be properly recognized.

  • Problems with JPGs that have been exported from InDesign

I have used InDesign CS4 for years and recently been upgraded to the Creative Cloud package, I have gone from a PC to a MAC as well.
The problem seems to be when I export a document in InDesign to a JPG file, when I try and use the JPG in other applications such as Powerpoint (for the Mac), the jpg isn't highlighted as an option to insert...like it hasn't been recognised.
I also recently had a problem uploading some jpg photos I had edited and exported to jpg and tried to upload to Snapfish and although I have done this many times before, it said my jpg file was corrupt.
No virus, or anything like that.
Does anyone know whether you can tweak the 'export' settings for indesign, I wondered if it was a compatibility issue?
    Anyone help me?
    Thanks

Well of course, there are the settings in InDesign's JPEG Export dialog, but there, all you can really do is make sure you're writing a "baseline" JPG in RGB mode. (Disclaimer: I haven't seen the 'CC' dialog, so there may be more about which I'm unaware.)
...when I try and use the JPG in other applications such as Powerpoint (for the Mac), the jpg isn't highlighted as an option to insert...like it hasn't been recognised.
That sounds like it could be a Microsoft Office issue. Can you insert a JPG that isn't the product of InDesign export? This is also why I mentioned RGB. I've seen Office apps choke on or ignore CMYK JPG's.
The number of posts in this forum on the subject of InDesign's JPEG export is unsettling to me. I truly believe it's a case of "Just because you can doesn't mean you should." Maybe I was "raised differently," figuratively speaking, but it would have never occurred to me to develop a workflow around the regular/routine export of raster images from my page layout application. If JPEG is my intended output, InDesign is the last application I'd reach for, perhaps unless I had a rare and specific need of a raster image depicting an InDesign-originated page layout. But even then, chances are I'd export from InDesign to PDF, then rasterize that by opening in Photoshop. If you need full control over raster image output, Photoshop is the much better bet.

  • How do I link to Anchor Text from browser to PDF file exported from InDesign?

I see that this question was asked previously but not answered:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3737541
I need a way to link to topics (from an HTML page) within a structured PDF file generated from InDesign, i.e. one that has an interactive bookmarks
panel, that doesn't break the links when the file is updated.
In particular, I don't want to refer to:
    *  page numbers because the document will repaginate when it is updated, breaking existing links
    * named destinations that are numeric as addition/deletion of topics renumbers the named destinations, breaking the links.
Is there any option in InDesign that creates named destinations derived from bookmark titles as that would seem to solve my problem?
I have a similar need, but I have not been able to find an answer anywhere online, even after a several hours of research.
I am on contract with General Electric to develop a UI Style Guide for an international team of developers. My client wants to be able to distribute the Style Guide as a PDF document, but needs to provide links to specific topics when submitting a "Story" in an Agile development environment to the programmers.
Ideally, I would like to be able to create "named destinations" in InDesign such that I can provide the client with a list of URLs similar to this format:
    file:\\StyleGuide\Test1-20131024a.pdf\#nameddest=AnchorText-01
However, I can not figure out how to create "named destinations" in the PDF file from the InDesign file in which I have created the Anchor Text in the Hyperlinks tab.
Alternately, the client would be satisfied with the ability to link to specific bookmarks in the exported PDF file that have been derived from the configuration of the Table of Contents styles, but my research has led me to believe that it is not possible to hyperlink from a browser window to a bookmark in a PDF file (only to specific page numbers, search word lists, named destinations, and comments) as described here: http://blogs.adobe.com/tcs/2011/01/tcs-specific/linking-to-a-page-within-a-pdf-and-more.ht ml
Having been using InDesign since 1988, when it was PageMaker, I would prefer to use it to provide GE with the most attractive deliverable, but they are now leaning heavily toward having me licensed with Madcap Flare, which has this capability built in:
    http://webhelp.madcapsoftware.com/flare9/Default.htm#Nav_Links/Named_Destinations/Creating _Named_Destinations.htm
Please help me to find a solution that will allow me to continue using InDesign for this project.
    Thank you!

Follow-up post (solution is not available):
I have just completed a phone call with Gaurev Sethi of Adobe escalated technical support in which I shared my screen to explain and demonstrate the desire to link from an external URL to a specific location within a PDF file that has been exported from InDesign. After 40 minutes, during which I was placed on hold a few times while he consulted with his team, it was determined that the desired functionality is not supported in InDesign and has been identified as a limitation of the software.
In researching alternate documentation software that supports PDF export, I discovered that Madcap Software supports this functionality in its Flare product:
    http://webhelp.madcapsoftware.com/flare9/Default.htm#Nav_Links/Named_Destinations/Creating _Named_Destinations.htm
Note that linking via URL to a bookmarked location within a PDF is not supported:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/tcs/2011/01/tcs-specific/linking-to-a-page-within-a-pdf-and-more.ht ml
More about parameters that can be specified to open PDF files are available here:
    http://www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/pdf_open_parameters.pdf
Although the above link is for a previous version of Acrobat, I could find no evidence to the contrary in the current SDK documentation.

  • EPUB exported from InDesign works on iPad and not on Android tablets

I've edxported several similar books to EPUB from InDesign CS5, using the same technique each. After exporting from InDesign, there's a lot of tweaking of the HTML code and some changes to the content.opf and toc.ncx, but the finished product for all of the books works fine on iPads but some do not work on Android tablets. There are six separate InDesign documents in each epub book...three small, one large, and then two small. Some of the books work fine on Android tablets, but for some of them, the first three documents show up fine, but when one advances to the large document, the book closes. There's no error message. Any ideas what the problem might be? Are there size limitations for documents on Android machines?

As you have found out - it doesn't work.

  • Exporting from InDesign to PDF, and the updated PDF is larger than a month ago and not printing easily on letter paper, it is PDF presets?

    Hello,
I am exporting from InDesign to a PDF and the page is larger in the PDF then others I have exported. Is this because of the PDF presents? One of the project managers is not able to print it out on 8.5 x 11 paper, but the document presets for InDesign are the same as before. I wish I could upload the PDFs to show, but the newly exported PDF is larger than the version I created a month ago. I created a PDF binder and the newly updated PDF is almost a .5 inch wider with the same export presets. Any thoughts?

I suspect the project manager simply has his/her copy of Reader/Acrobat set to print at actual size, rather than "Fit" (assuming the InDesign page size is truly 8.5 x 11).
..the newly updated PDF is almost a .5 inch wider with the same export presets.
It would have nothing to do with export presets. How are you determining that half-inch difference?

  • PDFs exported from InDesign cannot be printed

Our Marketing Manager is using Adobe InDesign and exports her documents to PDF. These PDFs won't print in any of our printers in the office. It spools and then gets stuck and it actually makes our HP Coloured Laser Printer throw an error (error 79) and we'll have to restart the printer due to this error. We can print other documents and other PDFs in the printer so we know it's not a printer driver issue. In fact, we have isolated the problem to only PDFs exported from InDesign. Even if we create a blank document or add just text from InDesign and export it to PDF it still won't print. Really odd.
**I also posted this in the InDesign thread but was asked to post it here too. I tried printing the document using Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader with no luck. We tried printing directly from InDesign but it is inconsistent, sometimes it will print but most of the time it does not.

Hmm. Yeah. The ID forum may be more help. Especially if it's also a problem in ID.
My first suspect would be corrupt fonts or possibly an image file. Can you create a blank ID file with no text (maybe insert just an image or something that isn't on any of the other ID files) pdf it and print it?

  • Missing content exporting from InDesign CC 2014 to Flash Pro CC 2014

    Dear all,
to produce a larger number of similar animated swf's, I wanted to create all necessary text and graphic layers in InDesign CC 2014, then export as *.fla to Flash Pro CC 2014 for "bulk" animation.
Finally it should then just be a case of selecting the correct layers and publishing.
The problem: When exporting from InDesign to Flash, all layers are recognized but initially apart from the text layers they were shown as empty items without the content.
Rescaling the placed images in InDesign to be no larger than the final document helped to now also have the images when opening the exported *.fla in Flash.
I am still missing all other InDesign objects though, e.g. even a simple colored rectangular will not show in Flash.
Any help to fix this issue would be greatly appreciated. Searching for it only brought up a couple of tutorials that do not seem to have this issue.
    Best regards
    Christopher

I think that it's just a bug in InDesign. It happens with CS6 as well.

  • Printing pdf exported from InDesign

When I print a pdf that I've exported from InDesign some of the graphic boxes or even text boxes that have effects, show up. They appear as a box with a subtle color a bit lighter than the background color of my design. These boxes do not show up on screen even when [view overprint] is on. The graphics are usually created or edited in photoshop with a transparent background so that only the image I want will be transfered to InDesign. Please HELP!

Thanks Daniel but this did not work for me perhaps because the following step was greyed out for me so I wasn't able to complete all the steps. I did try Claudia's advice to print image, that worked but it's getting a bit pixilated.
File > Print, and under Output, choose Composite CMYK, and CHECK the ?Simulate Overprint? checkbox. Under Advanced, select your all-raster flattener.
Maybe it's the way I created my original document, not sure.
    Thanks anyway!

  • Embedding font problems (when exporting from InDesign to PDF)

A message alert is shown, when opening a pdf - after exporting from InDesign: Cannont exctract the embedded Font Frutiger.
We have uninstalled the frutiger font and installed an open type. But the font is not embedded anyhow..?
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks very much.

I don't know if you need help scripting this, but...........
If you can not re-create the PDF from InDesign using the OTF,
In Acrobat, highlight the text with the acrobat touch-up text tool, right click and go to properties. You should be able to assign the OTF font running on you system, and select the embed option.
If not, this is why PitStop is an indespensable (sp?) tool.
    Best of luck
