White lines showing around some of my slices (in internet explorer)

Hi,
This is my first time posting, it's an awesome forum. I've put the site up at the url below. It renders fine on my mac in firefox and safari, but on pc in explorer, it is showing white lines around some of my slices. I don't know what is the best way to correct this problem? I'm using dreamweaver CS3. (normally work in print design) I've done the slices in image ready CS2.

thanks,

Hi and Welcome to the DW forum.
I'm using dreamweaver CS3. (normally work in print design) I've done the slices in image ready CS2.
I'm afraid most everything you know about print design goes out the window in Web Design.  Print and graphic design is rigid and static.  Web design needs to remain  flexible to accommodate varying amounts of text, increased text sizes, various browser and user settings.
When I increase text size in my browser, your page content becomes unreadable.  This is typical of Image Ready generated code which is far too fragile for use on a real web site.  Image Ready code is really only good for creating a quick design  comp to show the client.  Use Photoshop for graphics and slicing images. Use DW to build your HTML and CSS code.
Basic - 3-Image Slices into a CSS based Layout:
http://alt-web.com/DEMOS/Image-slices-in-a-CSS-based-layout.shtml
Advanced - Taking  a Fireworks (or Photoshop) comp to a CSS based layout in DW
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/fireworks/articles/web_standards_layouts_pt1.html
Very Nice looking design BTW.  Good luck with your project,

  • Thin white lines showing around shapes

When I open a logo created in Illustrator in other programs such as acrobat or photoshop there are thin white lines showing around every object! Even on the inside of the surronding lines of an area colored using the live paint bucket (black area surrounden by black lines). I see no lines in Illustrator and there is no "stroke" on these objects (only fill). I have tried to save it to different formats (ai, eps and pdf because I want to keep it vectorized) but it doesn´t help. What can I do?

They don't print. Search the Knowledgebase for "stitching" for an explanation.

  • A white line in on some of the pages

Hello, i am making this site as a hobby so im not so professional at DW.
But i have this white line thru some of the pages of the site.
On some monitors it doens't show.
I sliced the image and somewhere there is a fault in it and i can't figure it out...(it drives me nuts!!)
Pls help. How can i fix this?

Its on the lower left side.

Conditional Comments are not the solution here.  When I increase text size (zoom, text only) in my browsers IE, FF or Safari, the page falls apart with a noticeable white gap on the left side and an artifact on the right.  This happens because the table row is being stretched to accommodate content in the middle cell.  You may need to re-think your design strategy.  Use solid background colors.  Use real text links in the left navigation column instead of image slices, etc...

  • White lines appear around placed images in printing.

A native Illustrator document with placed Photoshop (both CS6) images produces whites lines around the placed images when printed.  The Illustrator document does not show white lines on screen.  Nor does the PDF (Acrobat X Pro) generated from the IA doc show white lines when viewed on screen.  When the document goes to press, the printed product show the white lines:
See upper left image and lower right image-note: other images are not affected.  Both both are native Photoshop images, placed on a gradient in IA.  Perhaps the PDF settings: "Adobe PDF Preset" or "Standard" are not chosen correctly?  Why the white lines?

You screenshot shows a modified Illustrator Default preset with Compatability to Acrobat 4. That setting always flattens transparency which is what I would suggest avoiding first.
Note the Warnings summary alerts that transparency will be flattened.

    Yes

Discussion seems to indicate seeing 'stiching lines' on screen; sometimes in the designing application; or in the generated PDF.  My instances are visible only in printing-in two of the four images.
    1. Transparency.  Is this an automatic occurence in generating the PDF?  Can I turn it on/off? (The 'Save Adobe PDF' window that allows changes to: General, Compression, Marks & Bleeds,Output,, Advanced.....)
Transparency is part of some design and all Effects. Note that you can change a color by using a tint or by setting it's transparency. Many times a tint will suffice. It looks the same and has the same values.
Your original screenshot apears to use images with clipping paths. (Full disclosure - I should know this, but don't...I expect) clipping paths require/invoke the transparent background to place the images within the colored area.
You cannot get around transparency but flattening converts vector objects to raster objects (when transparency touches/abuts/interacts with raster images).
You should be able to use the Illustrator Default, High Quality Print or PDFX-4 to maintain live transparency
2 very old (2004) Adobe white papers, not too legnthy which I can shed some light. Note - PDFX-4 superceeds all of these.

I bought an Iphone 4S yesterday and when I try unlock it will not allow me. I try to slide across and the box appears around it. If I happen to get it unlocked after pressing for awhile it does the same with any apps I press on. The white link/box appears around the apps.
I have tried to re-boot and that did not work (Using home and sleep button together until the Apple logo appeared)

Make sure Settings > General > Accessibility - Assistive touch is off.

Sounds like you have the Grid turned on. Tap Options and turn off Grid.
The grid is used to assist in composing a photo using "the rule of thirds". Rather than centering your subject line the subject up on a line or intersection of the line for a more pleasing photo. Landscape photos can also look better by aligning the horizon with one of the horizontal lines

  • Can firefox show bookmarks list in alphabetical order like Internet Explorer?

I don't want to have to go to "show all bookmarks" then search for a bookmark. I want to just see the list and go down to the right one, or start typing it and go to it.

    Hi
Easiest way to put your bookmarks in alphabetical order is to right click on a bookmark folder and you have the option to "Sort By Name".
Alternatively, have a look at this list of bookmark related addons ([https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/extensions/bookmarks/ link]).
Hope this helps, please come back here if you need any further assistance.

  • Two Separate Problems -  1) Some website elements missing in Internet Explorer and 2) Site manager page Locks up

    1) I have two forms created in FormsCentral embedded on my website www.videoaldeco.com . They do not appear in Internet Explorer. They work in Firefox and Safari on my iPhone. However, the problem only occurs on this computer. I tried another PC and the forms appear fine in Internet Explorer.
    2) When I go into Site Admin Console page from Muse, Internet Explorer locks up almost every time. Only Windows Task Mngr can shut it down. Then it wants to recover page. Recovering page only locks up again.

    Hi
    Answering the questions :
    1) I am not able to replicate as it works on my end , form loads fine on IE. Please let me know the IE version you are using.
    2) I don't see the same issue with site manager , please check the browser plugins and try to disable all and then check.

  • Thin white line around black .ai logo and drop shadow question

    Hello,
There's a very thin white line all around a black .ai logo I made when placed on a color background. It shows up in printing and acrobat (PDF % compatibility) too. Also, is there any way to get a transparent drop shadow (no white boxes) when saving as eps.
    Thanks
Running OS10.4.11 In Design CS3, intel mac.

Is the logo rasterized in Illustrator? It sounds like something was antialiased against a white background.
    >Also, is there any way to get a transparent drop shadow (no white boxes) when saving as eps
No. EPS does not support transparency. If an area is not fully transparent (because nothing is drawn there) then it is fully opaque. PDF and AI support transparency.

  • How do I avoid the white line that forms around objects I've separated from a background?

This is a cropped corner of an illustration I removed from its opaque background and placed on a transparent background.  The north and west borders show the whilte line that forms whenever I place objects on a transparent background.  The south and east borders are the cropped edges -- they are clean and make the trasition from object to background color without that white line.  With some objects, it's possible to use the Plygonal Lasso Tool, for instance, and trim that object away from the background.  With portraits or irregularly shaped objects, though, it's necessary to use the Magic Wand or other means to trim the background away from the object, which results in that unwanted white line.  I've read for hours online about this problem and have found no true resolution: Defringing, Removing White Matte, Anti-aliasing, trying to predict what color you'll lay the silhouette on and working in that color, and on and on.  It seems as though Photoshop would be relied upon heavily by professionals who need to place objects on top of one another without intrusion.  Does anyone have a method that really works?

Hi!  If the solutions you mentioned aren't working for your project, it might be worth learning a little bit about Layer Masks.  This is a page that explains how Layer Masks work. http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/masking-layers.html
A Layer Mask is a black-and-white image that corresponds to your source image applied in such a way that white areas display and black areas don't.  So for your project, you would want to use Photoshop to turn your scanned illustration into a black-and-white image where the area you want to keep is white, and the area you don't want to keep is black.  Here is a demo using your uploaded image:
    1. Open your image in Photoshop.  Right-click on your source layer in the Layers Palette and select Duplicate Layer.
    2. With the upper layer selected, use Image -> Adjustments -> Desaturate to turn the layer black-and-white.
    3. Use Image -> Adjustments -> Invert to reverse the black and white.  Now the white background should be black.
    4. With the upper layer selected, use Image -> Adjustments -> Levels.  Move the black, white, and gray arrows such that there is a hard black-and-white contrastwhere you want the white background to be removed.
    5. You may have to use the lasso tool or the brush tool to complete the silhouette of the image against the white background.
    6. With the upper, black-and-white layer selected, Edit -> Select All and Copy.  Turn the layer visibility off so that you are again looking at the original image.
    7. With the lower layer selected, click the Layer Mask icon.  Alt-click on the Layer Mask to edit the Mask directly.
    8. Edit -> Paste to apply the black-and-white image you created as a Layer Mask.  If you then click the layer icon again, you should be looking at your correctly cropped image!
    Hope this helps.

  • White line around image

    Hi everyone,
I keep getting a white line appear around images I save in
Photoshop and then insert into Dreamweaver. It happens when I also
save text with a transparent background. The text has a very faint
white line around it. Why is this?

Where are you seeing this, in PS? or DW design view or in a

    you still see
    the border?

  • White lines in table

I am new to using Dreamweaver and I was trying to make a
website composed of images. I created the template on Photosho CS2
and then I cut them into slices and I'm trying to make my website
    on Dreamweaver using tables.
I started out making 1 row and column and then I continued on
by splitting cells and making my website but it doesnt come out
right. I have these tiny white lines in between some rows and
columns. I tried squeezing them (moving all the rows and columns
together) but still nothing changes. Heres a screenshot of what my
    website looks like:
    http://img352.imageshack.us/img352/7653/untitled1fz7.jpg

Remove all the height and widths from the cells, as the code
    shows below
and see if that helps. Its not a very stable stuture, thats
    why you are
encountering problems. By splitting and merging you are
    setting up
forces which are pushing and pulling the table out of shape.

  • White lines on movie exported in DVD

ehi guys. I did just a nice movie with the suggestions of some members of this forum but at the end the quality of a 30minutes movie exported in DVD was not so much principally because of some white lines present in some pieces of the movie. These white lines are not clearly detectable, but still they disturb the vision. I guessed that this effect was  due to the low ram of my laptop (512MB). is that correct?

It sounds like it *could* be an interlacing issue, especially as it appears on the TV, and not the computer. Chances are that the computer's progressive scan masks this issue, while the TV's internaced display shows it.
Now, are all of the source Clips on the same Timeline the same? Were they all Captured via PE from a miniDV camera, over a Firewire connection, or are the from mixed sources? Having this problem come in during the play of the DVD indicates that it might be some of the source files, but not all of them.
More detail on the Clips would help. In the Project Panel, you can get the properties of each of your source Clips. Listing those would be a good start.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
    [Edit] Antonio,
If it is a Field Reversal interlacing issue, you might get some useful information from this current discussion.
