White MacBook discoloured by use of Tucano Second Skin folder

I have a three month old white MacBook which I protected from new with a black Tucano Second Skin folder. I've discovered discolouration on the case at either side, matching the internal design of the sleeve. I've used iKlear, with no effect.
Anyone else had the same problem?
2GHz MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2Gb RAM, white

Hi Nick,
I had the exact same problem. The Apple centre in Rotterdam referred me to Apple. After calling Apple twice they agreed to replace the outer bottom case.
The bottom contained a half circled line across the bottom (also the battery) just beneath the trackpad. The service centre replaced the bottom case and I also got a new battery.
I am still using the same Tucano second skin. So far no discoloration... It's been almost two months.

  • Hard drive dies if you put a MacBook Pro on top of a white MacBook

Myself and one other have had this same problem. Sleep a white macbook and start using your 2006 MacBook pro on top of it. After a few mins it freezes and only the mouse pointer works with mostly the beach ball. Hard reboot and then you just get clicking noises from the hard drive (stuck on grey screen sometimes with the spinner or question mark or sometimes blank)and it has mechanical failure. Just coincidence or a real problem?
Post here if you have had this same problem thanks.

I was originally using it on my knee then when moving it to a table I just happened to place it on top of another MacBook instead of clearing space, I didn't think it would be a problem.
Nop the hard drive no longer works. It spins up but makes a clicking sound like the heads are damaged. If you tap the case then it sounds like it starts reading and the apple and spinner appear on the grey screen but it eventually just spins down.
Its possible the magnet in the Macbook case done it, although wouldn't that cause problems with the Macbooks own drive all the time?

  • Cannot access old iPhoto library in external drive that i used white macbook

I just bought new MBP and I tried holding down the command key and selected my old white macbook iPhoto library but it does not show any photos- help? (i already repaired permissions based on some instructions i found here - alt+command and double click iphoto) but still does not show the photos.
Please help, I have almost 200gb of photos here

move the library to the new machine - Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc)  or use an external hard drive formed Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.

Any answers or help would be much apprieciated.

If your MacBook and the MacBook Pro have FireWire ports you can install by Target Disk Mode. You'll need a retail version of SL .Start up your the MacBook Pro with your install disk. After you get to the install screen on the MacBook Pro connect your MacBook to the MacBook Pro in Target Disk Mode with a FireWire cable http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
Then open Disk Utility from the Utilities Menu on the Menu Bar on the install disk. You should see both your MacBook and the MacBook Pro hard drives in there. Erase and partition your MacBook drive and then choose that drive when you go back to the install screen

hi i am currently using a white macbook mid 2009 with 10.6.8 version and i wanted to upgrade it to yosemite? So wanted to know if it would be alright?

    Hi Shubham Nahar,
The system requirements for Yosemite are listed here.
How to install OS X Yosemite on your Mac
Before you install Yosemite, make sure you have one of these Macs:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Your Mac also needs:
OS X Mavericks, Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8, already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available disk space
I don't have that Macbook, so maybe others can chime in as well.
    Take care,
    Nubz

  • Using mbox 2 and a white macbook

anyone have experience using didesign Mbox 2 and a white macbook 2.00 ghz and pro tools Le. The digi website doesn't specify compatibility yet.
    tnhx

Okay, just set up my Mbox and downloaded PTLE 7.1.1. Mind you I have the original Mbox, but except for the analog or digital input vs. the analog and digital input the interfacing should be similar enough to not make much of a difference.
Install was fine. First launch was pretty quick. No 3rd party plug-ins installed at the moment.
Opened a session with 28 audio tracks, numerous Aux's, and a Master track. It has a few plug-ins enabled, but most of the plug-ins originally used where Waves and/or Sony Oxford, so they are disabled at this time, also originally had two Altiverbs, so those are also disabled.
At first hitting play caused an immediate stop. I opened up the Playback Engine options and changed from Buffer level 8 (which it was already set to for some reason) to the default of 2. Now playback worked fine, but I was stopped a couple of times for CPU holding off USB bandwidth.
I then upped the Buffer level to 4, and for the most part had no problems. The only time I got stopped with an error message is occasionally when I would either hit stop, or do a RTZ while playing. Both of those are trivial as they stop playback/record anyway.
Two possible reasons for my problems:
    1. In setting up in a quick and dirty fashion, I was playing the session off the internal driver, rather than from my firewire drive I would normally use for a session.
    2. I have the stock 512MB RAM config right now. This is one reason I didn't go to a lot of trouble with tweaking and using the correct drives. I have 2GB of RAM arriving tomorrow. I'll retest then to see if the errors continue, and maybe do a bit more tweaking.
Initial prognosis is pretty good. Much better than when I first tried my 001 system on my 8600/300 back in the day... (I was able to get 24 tracks with a good sounding reverb plug with that system, some would call that a miracle, especially as it was never an approved system.)

jpatricio787 wrote: ... is it possible to use it with my white MacBook ?...
OK so yes, but if, and only if:
    (1) your MacBook has a Firewire port (not all do)
        - and -
    (2) your old external iSight camera works (not all do)
        - and -
    (3) your MacBook is working properly.
If you are not certain whether your MacBook model has Firewire, you can search MacBook Technical Specifications for your model.  Alternatively, check the  User Guide Manual that came with your MacBook for the information you need to be certain.
If you are not certain that your old external iSight camera works, you can test it using the suggestions in this link.
jpatricio787 wrote: ... if so how do I go about it ? ...
Follow the instructions in your iSight User's Guide to connect and turn on the iSight.  Then launch the Apple app you want to use with your iSight.  If you need more information about using an app, search for "camera" (without the quote marks) in the Help menu choice for the app.

If you need more direction, post back the specifics of what you still need.  We will offer further direction based on the details of your reply.

  • Can I use charger from MBP on a white MacBook?

My charger from myt white MacBook (2007) died, and since I also have a MacBook Pro (2008) I wonder if I can use charger from it. Will it works? Is it bad for the charger or MacBook's battery?
    Thanks for help.

Just install the application/suite and use the serial number you have to activate it.  Your serial number should be available thru your Adobe account online if you registered the software.
    Download and Installation Help -
    https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install.html
Before you do that you should contact Adobe Support thru chat and ask them to reset your activations so that your stolen machine will no longer be able to use the applications and you can have two available for you to use.
For the link below click the Still Need Help? option in the blue area at the bottom and choose the chat option...

  • White MacBook dead or dying. Apple Store store screwing me.

I have had an unfortunate event. Two days ago my white MacBook has started to misbehave. I have turned it on, and it powered itself off after a minute. It probably did that about 4-5 times. Eventually, it booted and stayed on for the rest of the day. This has happened with a fully charged battery and plugged-in. Since it has worked for the rest of the day, I did not think more of it. Weird boots have happened before rarely.
Yesterday, it booted fine, but the keyboard was misbehaving. The option key was stuck in the ON postion without being physically pressed. Some letters worked, others created the option+letter key combination.
So, I have taken it to the Apple Store. I have a got a call an hour later saying that he removed the top case and found a small stain in the bottom-right side of the keyboard, which according to him is evidence of liquid damage. The warranty has been voided. The warranty was actually going to expire today on the 14th.
I find this highly suspicious. I have taken great care of it. Besides a scratch or paint transfer on the bottom case next to the exhaust, which I have no idea how it happened, and yellowing of the touchpad, it looks like new. I have read that the MacBooks turn yellow, mine has in less than a month of use. Maybe, due to heat, it has turned yellow or brown inside.
It's pssible they saw that my warranty was going to expire today and thought to screw me. If it's going to expire in one day, why help him?
They want $230. $130 for the top case. $100 for work. I told him to disassemble it further due to the weird boots. I have not yet received a call back if he has found more damage.
I've seen laptops taking a bath. You could float Noah's ark on them. They have major flooding stains from coke, smoothies, and other beverages. I don't drink that suff, nor have I on the day in question, nor did anyone else use it.
It's my only machine. My only means of communication with the planet is my iPhone. Suggestions?
    Thank you.

So, I thought that I should give an update. After the initial quote for $230 ($130 for the top case and $100 for work) to fix it due to liquid damage, I decided to wait a few days before going back to the Apple Store to research the issue. After a few days, I went to the store. The tech who quoted me the price was not there. When I asked when he will be there, I was told that they can't give out his schedule. One of the Genius Bar employees gave me a new price: $750. A new white MacBook is $900 with the education discount.
When I heard that price, I told him to keep it. I decided to call Apple customer support. I spoke to a few people until I have eventually been redirected to someone called Jen. I explained to her that the Apple Store won't give me a straight answer nor have they proven to me that liquid damage has occurred. She wrote some notes down and said that she will email me a case number. She also said that I should take it back, try to have another tech look at it by speaking to a manager, try to take it to another store, or ship it to a depot. That email never came. She lied to me.
I decided against talking to a manager. There was another person there with an iPod. They told him that they haven't found anything wrong with it, but if he wants to buy a new one and trade the old one, he'll get a 10% discount. He was very disappointed and expected that answer.
Clearly, I think that due to the ***** economy, they are pressured to sell to keep the store afloat and deny warranty claims. I decided against speaking to the manager. He would be the one pressuring them.
I took the laptop back. It was dirty and had a few new scratches. I bought a top case from eBay. It's a factory second grade B, AKA scratched to ****, and some of the metal inside was bended, but I straighten it as much as I could. My old one hand an yellow touchpad, but no scratches. I found a YouTube video on how to disassemble and remove the top case. It's 19 screws and it takes about 5-10 minutes. For that work they were going to charge $100. Since they do this all the time, it probably takes them 10 minutes to disassembly, replace, reassemble. They charge more than a lawyer. What a ripoff!
Once I removed the top case, I was in for a shock. There was NO stain. Also, none of the Liquid Submersion Indicators (LSI) were triggered. Those LSIs are sensitive. They turn pink to red from humidity. Actual liquid does not have to touch them. They were all white. One might think that he was nice enough to clean up liquid residue if that was the case. I very much doubt that. The laptop had dust and hairs in it. If the tech had taken the time to clean up a stain, he would have spent 10 seconds with an air can to blow the dust and hairs away. This leads me to believe that he may not have disassembled the MacBook in the first place. He may have assumed that there was liquid damage on the right side since parts of the keyboard stopped working.
After installing the new top case, everything works. There are no issues whatsoever. I'm going to write an email to Steve Jobs because I've been cheated.

  • Hi - I am new here: I need help and advice on the White Macbook - thanks.

    Hi all,
I'm a new member to this forum + I am soon to be a new user of the Macbook.
I have ordered my new White 2.16 Macbook with an upgraded 2GB RAM & an upgraded 16GB HDD.
I have some questions which I would like answered please:
    1) How likely is it that my macbook will get the cracks near the wrist rests?
    2) How likely is it that my white macbook will discolour? Are the latest 2007 range also facing discolouration like last years models? How soon does the discolouration start to show?
    3) Is the macbook a SOLID build? Or does it feel cheap when you touch and feel it?
    4) How likely is it that the outer glossy body will get stratched? I remember the previous Ipods were poor quality and got stratched even by normal use or by putting it in your EMPTY pocket.
    5) How likely is it that I will encounter hardware issues?
    6) Is the Macbook AS GOOD AS Apple say it is?
Reason I am asking all these questions is because I am investing quite abit of money in a never before used item and with a company who I have never dealt with.
But having read all the issues and problems with apple products one has to ask these simple questions.
I mean even if you go out and buy a real cheapo laptop you would almost never come accross these poor quality issues in such a short time period has Apple users are stating.
Thanks, I look forward to the answers.
PC   Windows Vista   Awaiting delivery of my new White Macbook: 2.16GHz - Intel Core 2 Duo - 2GB memory - 160GB hard drive.

    1) It's impossible to guess the likelihood of cracks. We don't have the numbers.
    2) Discolouration seems to have been a problem specific to some earlier ones.
    3) The MacBook is solidly built, but still feels more fragile than a MacBook Pro or even an iBook.
    4) the outside plastic is easily scratched.
    5) impossible to say, we don't have the numbers
    6) Yes, it is that good. Great computer.
Any question you wrote which includes the words likely or likelihood is impossible for users to answer meaningfully, since we don't have access to any good numbers. Just from watching this discussion board, it might appear that cracks and discoloration are likely, but since Apple has sold millions of these things, these issues might really be measured as a small fraction of a percent. We just can't know.

  • Replacing a failed hard drive on a mid-2007 white macbook

Replacing a SECOND failed hard drive on a mid-2007 white macbook (Intel core duo 2.16GHz), this time on my own
Need to purchase a serial ATA drive, but I keep reading that trying to format and/or partition the drive for use with the original Tiger install disk is unsuccessful and that I would have to update to a newer OS before I can do that.
I have Leopard as the current OS, and that is in my backup files from Time Machine, but I do not have a disk with Leopard.
Wondering the best course of action and/or if someone had success wit ha particular Serial ATA using the Tiger disks
    Thanks!

All Intel Macs have always use SATA drives, so all Intel versions of OS X support them including Tiger. I don't know what you've been reading. However, since you have Leopard I don't see what the problem would be because you don't need to install Tiger unless your Leopard disk is strictly an updater disc.
How to replace or upgrade a drive in a laptop
Step One: Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Step Two: Remove the old drive and install the new drive.  Place the old drive in an external USB enclosure.  You can buy one at OWC who is also a good vendor for drives.
Step Three: Boot from the external drive.  Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager appears.  Select the icon for the external drive then click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Step Four: New Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your new hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID  then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Step Five: Clone the old drive to the new drive
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    4. Check the box labeled Erase destination.
    5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
    7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the new internal drive. Source means the old external drive.
Step Six: Open the Startup Disk preferences and select the new internal volume.  Click on the Restart button.  You should boot from the new drive.  Eject the external drive and disconnect it from the computer.

  • I have 2 white macbooks to erase them, HOW please

I have 2 white macbooks. lets call them M1 and M2
so I have M1 and disk for it and have M2 and NO disk for it.
I took disk1 and put it in M2 to erase it, restart - installer, I chose machintosh main harddrive and erased it, then I tried to reinstall the OSX and it gives me an error(MAC OS X cannot be installed on this computer) WHY? plus I cannot understand how the fck I get the disk out of this computer now. I am trying upper right button eject and it won't eject. I did try command + E and no luck either.
So my question is, how to take out the CD and how to install any OS on this macbook so I can sell it. and then I need to do the same thing with the second one too.
and there also option to start from network and it just restarts and thats it, not asking any question and doing nothing
PLEASE HELP! first time mac user =(

Because M2 must have a different version of OS X that the M1 disk installs. Typically, that would be interpreted to mean the OS X on the M1 disk is an earlier version than required by M2.
Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
      1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
left mouse button until the disc ejects.
      2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
      3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
      4. Press COMMAND-E.
      5. If none of the above work try this: Open the Terminal application in
your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
            /usr/bin/drutil eject
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into Single-user Mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above. To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.

And i have to ship it to them so Im out of a computer for work for the next week or so. Dell came right to my house and fixed my puter. I dont understand why they cant remove my hd and put it in a new unit at the store and send me on my way. then they can fix the ever increasing macbook auto sutdown problem. ahhh. Honestly i would not buy until this problem is resolved, or they pull all theunits from the shelf that have this issue. I though it was minor but after searching the net there are hundreds of people with this issue now.
