White Macbook (Late 2009) Case not aligned after damage

Today I slipped on ice and fell on my back with my Macbook in my bag which unfortunately took the hit. It still starts up ok (but the fan is a little louder than it was) and every key is working on the keyboard but the force of the fall was on the hinge which means when I close the Macbook there is a little crunching sound and the case does not line up properly when it is closed with the LCD screen extending over the keyboard by a few millimetres.
The Macbook is still under the limited warranty and even though accidental damage isn't covered I was wondered if it was worth taking to the Genius Bar or if anyone had any advice on repairs i.e cost/reputable repair company

Hey Mark1992, and welcome to the forums, though I'm sorry to hear your computer isn't feeling so well
Make an appointment at an Apple store and ask the folks there to give you an estimate for repairs. They will tell you which part(s) need to be replaced, if any. Hopefully it isn't too scary!

  • Windows 7 x64 on a white macbook late 2009

ok, i'll ask this question again in a different way, hopefully get an answer this time:
are the bootcamp 3.0 drivers machine specific? i know that install dvd's are supposedly machine specific, but i can't confirm.
the reason i'm asking is that i'm helping a friend install windows 7 x64. i'm in south america, she lives across town and forgot to give me her install dvd's, so i used mine from a mid 2009 macbook pro.
i installed bootcamp 3.0 and immediately updated with the 3.1 64 bit update.
i have no sound and cannot get the wireless adaptor driver functioning (i get code 10), it won't install, so i have no wi-fi.
also, trackpad functionality isn't 100%. i get 2 finger scroll, but it seems like expose and some other things aren't exactly like they are on the mac (need to go and check that expose is on), but trackpad speed and clicking seem a little off to me.
so i'm wondering if this is a system-wide driver problem tied to the install DVD version that came from a different machine or not, or is part of the same windows 7 problems everyone seems to be having.
i thought the 3.1 update was supposed to resolve all this stuff.
last week i did the exact same install on an identical macbook pro to mine and everything worked perfectly, not sure why it's not working on the macbook.

See Boot Camp- Macs that work with 64-bit editions of Microsoft Windows Vista.

  • White Macbook late 2006 crashes heaps and generally acting nuts

    Hello all,
Macbook, white, late-06 model. It's freezing more and more often and more and more unpredictably. First it wouldn't wake from sleep - it would be totally frozen with the spinning wheel. Nothing responding, not force quit window, nothing. I would stop the machine with the power button and restart. Got the file symbol with the blinking question mark. Restart with Applejack and it went nuts in the repair permissions part, it must have repaired thousands of files, they just kept scrolling past for ages. Other times there wouldnt be much repair during Applejack. Later I discovered that if I waited several minutes before restart, it would often in fact find the system and restart normally. Now it's freezing randomly, not just from sleep, sometimes not finding the system, often it does. 3 - 10 times a day.
I have used applejack a lot of times and disk warrior on it several times - no help. I reinstalled the system and updated with the combo. No help. Disk warrior indicates the drive is normal. Time Machine - I've had this hooked up for backup for a long time, yesterday it decided to backup the entire drive (350GB), seems it couldn't couple to TimeMachine properly. It's always been a loud machine, you can hear its fan through the whole house, but now it seems it spins up for anything.
Other info - the battery is new because the old one swelled and made the trackpad unusable. The diskdrive is only about 2 months old (fourth diskdrive in 4 years), istat says cpu temp is 56°C - about 66°C in normal operation. White Macbook, late 06, 2.0GHz, 2GB RAM, 500GB disk with 150GB free space, coupled to external monitor and a time machine disk (usb) and a inkjet printer. Using wireless network (airport express). The cover was not closed when I put the machine to sleep. Snow Leopard cache cleaner says the RAM is OK.
I hope some of this points in a particular direction, before I have to take it to the repair shop. Grateful for help and suggestions.
    Thanks, Dave

I would consider running the hardware diagnostics:
How to run hardware diagnostics for an Intel Mac
Boot from your original OS X Installer Disc One that came with your computer. After the chime press and hold down the "D" key until the diagnostic screen appears. Run the extended tests for a minimum of two or three hours. If any error messages appear note them down as you will need to report them to the service tech when you take the computer in for repair.
    Some "common" error indicators:
    SNS - sensor error
    MEM - memory error
HDD - hard disk drive error
    MOT - fan error
Such problems may be due to marginal RAM. If the problems persist even with a freshly installed OS (not third-party software) then RAM is often the cause if it's not some other hardware problem.
If the problems did not occur until you replaced the hard drive, then it's possible the drive was not prepped correctly before use.
    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder. If you need to reformat your startup volume, then you must boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

  • How do I update Nvidia 9400M GeForce drivers on MacBook late 2009?

How do I update Nvidia 9400M GeForce drivers on MacBook late 2009?
I've got a huge fps drop problem on my mac, and i've called apple support, they told me to update Nvidia Graphics Card or something. How do i do this?

Nope, I'll do that, but since I've seen you here before, can I ask you something regarding my HD?
I've been transferring about 1.6 GB from my USB stick, and when it is going on with the transfer, my computer just freezes, i can move the mouse but not click anywhere. then after some time i can click again, but then it freezes again. And it takes like 10 times longer to transfer.
And also, would it work to transfer a windows xp.iso to my usb stick, and then install windows using boot camp?
And also, would it work if I purchase 4GB or 2GB + 4GB (6GB) RAM to my Macbook unibody late 2009?
And also, would it work if i purchased RAM memory originally from a macbook Pro?

  • HOW TO REPLACE HARD DRIVE WHITE MACBOOK EARLY 2009

I have a White MacBook Early 2009, I need suggestions. My Macbook is still running fine, but would like to know which Hard Drive I should purchase as replacement. Thinking of going 500GB if possible, I already downloaded the instructions. Just trying to get my ducks in order for when that time comes, hopefully not for a few more years.

For a new hard drive try Newegg.com
Regular SATA drives http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=380&name=Laptop-Hard-Dr ives&Order=PRICE  Use the list at the left for larger and faster drives.
    SSD drives
http://www.newegg.com/Internal-SSD/SubCategory/ID-636?Order=PRICE  Use the list at the left for larger and faster drives.
Or OWC for regular hard drives and SSDs  http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/
Here are instructions on replacing the hard drive in a MacBook with a removable battery. http://creativemac.digitalmedianet.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=45088
To transfer your current hard drive I like the applications Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper. They make a bootable copy of everything on your hard drive. http://www.bombich.com/index.html or http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html
You'll need a cheap SATA external hard drive case. Put the new drive in the case then format and partition the new drive and clone your old drive to the new one. Check that it's set up right by booting up from the external drive. Then replace your old hard drive with the new one and put your old one in the external case.
Here's a cheap SATA external hard drive case on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Vantec-NexStar-2-5-Inch-External-Enclosure/dp/B002JQNXZC/r ef=pd_cp_pc_0
If you don’t have the tools to open up the MacBook OWC has a set for $5

hi i am currently using a white macbook mid 2009 with 10.6.8 version and i wanted to upgrade it to yosemite? So wanted to know if it would be alright?

    Hi Shubham Nahar,
The system requirements for Yosemite are listed here.
How to install OS X Yosemite on your Mac
Before you install Yosemite, make sure you have one of these Macs:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Your Mac also needs:
OS X Mavericks, Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8, already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available disk space
I don't have that Macbook, so maybe others can chime in as well.
    Take care,
    Nubz

My MacBook (late 2009 Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63) often runs VERY slow...beach ball of death frequently.  My page ins (3.29GB), page outs (5.64BG), and swap files (10GB) seem extremely high in comparison to most other discussions in here.   I don't know how to copy the pie chart so it shows on here but here's what it says right now:
    Free - 176 MB
    Wired - 592MB
    Active - 843MB
    Inactive - 432MB
    Used - 1.82 GB
    VM size - 198GB
The page ins and page outs have 0 bytes/sec in the parenthesis even though the numbers are so high.
Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated!!!

You difinately need more ram. 2gb is the bare minimum to run just the Lion OS, anything extra will slow your Mac to a crawl. Upgrade to 8gb from either Crucial http://www.crucial.com/ or OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/
And you will be a happy camper!

Down load fron the Internet OmniDiskSweeper (free) and open it.  It will show you all of your files and the respective sizes.
In addition, click on your HDD icon in the upper right hand corner of your desk top with COMMAND I (I as in the letter i).  What does it say about the space used and available.

The SMC reset often fixes your problem.
Be sure you follow the instructions for your particular Mac model.
If your problem continues, restart Mac.  Then download and install OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 Update (Combo).
If that does not correct the problem, reinstall Mac OS X.
If nothing else works, contact your Apple Service provider or Apple MacBook Support for help.

  • MacBook late 2009 vs MacBook Pro Mid 2012 (Ram)

Hi, I recently upgraded the Ram in my MacBook Pro (Mid 2012) to 16gb 1600 MHz DDR3 and my wife's MacBook (late 2009) has 2gb 1067 MHz DDR3 currently in it, but I tried using my old Ram (2gb slots) from the Mid 2012 MacBook Pro, and her MacBook wouldn't boot up at all, I just got a black screen.
So I see the difference is the 1600 MHz vs the 1067 MHz, so does that mean that my old Ram won't work because of this?
    Thanks in advance,
    DJ Meezy

  • New MacBook Late 2009 frequent non responding applications

Hello everyone. I just got a new MacBook late 2009 a few weeks ago. I love being back on Mac OS X but the one issue that I'm having is this:
About once a day my MacBook will hit a spot where it doesn't want to open any applications at all. I use Safari, iTunes and yahoo messenger every day. I never shut down my MacBook. I just close the lid and let it sleep overnight. When these spells hit all I get is the bouncing beach ball and I have to force quit the application(s) and restart to get everything fast and snappy again. I got the RAM upgraded directly from Apple when I bought to 4GB. I have 219GB free on the hard drive so I don't know what could be causing the problem. Any help is much appreciated.

    Just an update:
I got to thinking about anything that I have installed that could be causing the problem. So far it turns out that the Intego AntiVirus solution I had installed was causing the problems. I know Macs don't get viruses but I've always believe in having some sort of antivirus protection if anything to catch files that I might be passing on to my Windows using friends. So I went back to Norton Internet Security as I had bought that back in November. So far no application crashing and everything is running like it should.
