White MacBook Water Damage-Fans don't work...options?

About 2 years ago I had some water damage on my white Macbook, after a couple of days it started up again and worked fine, except that the fans don't run and the thing overheats and shuts down if I do anything intensive. I brought it into the Genius Bar and they said I need a new logic board...I assume they aren't going to steer me wrong, but do I have any other options?...Like I said it works great unless I run media or something.

If your MacBook is continually overheating it will very likely fail, sooner rather than later. It is unfortunate that non-functional fans require replacement of the logic board - a fairly expensive item - but it is correct.
My son spilled bourbon on his MacBook with similar results. He managed to keep it working for a while by putting it on top of bags of frozen peas, replacing them when it got too warm. Eventually though the computer was replaced.
Get the repair done or replace the computer. You can use workarounds such as the frozen peas to get the data off of the MacBook, but don't count on it working for long.

Only the original cellular provider can authorize unlocking. You will need to contact them to determine if they offer unlocking and if the phone qualifies.

A replacement iPhone is usually a refurbished iPhone that has received new battery and case and repair of anything that may have been faulty. The refurbished iPhone is indistinguishable from a new iPhone. A number of the regulars on here prefer the refurbished Aplle products because they have been so thoroughly tested.
A replacement iPhone is identical to the original, same color, capacity, and so on.

There is nothing saved on the SIm card in an iphone. If you have a backup of the old phone restore that to the new phone

I'm a little bit confused here. I bought the latest Macbook Pro before university late September 2011, and unfortunately had a little accident involving a leaky bottle of juice.
I dried it out as much as I could, and took it to my nearest Apple store two days later, where, to my dismay the guys at the Genius bar said it was broken beyond a reasonably priced repair. I was faced with an estimated £800+ bill, or the option to buy a new one.
As I was going back to Uni for my last term, I needed a computer of some kind and hastily bought the new one. Instead of having it repaired, I stretched an extra £100 on the repair bill and bought the Macbook Air.
The guy who served me thought it was a good idea for me to buy a new one (obviously) and kept reminding me that even if I do get it repaired, the 'corrosion' could spread and it might need repairing again.
The problem throughout all of this is after spending ANOTHER £1000 only a few months after buying the first macbook, I am typing on the so called 'water damaged' macbook right now.
They told me it was completely busted, but apart from cosmetic water marks on the screen I am failing to see what's wrong with it.
Have I been ripped off? Can I sell the water damaged MBP?

As far as selling it, I don't know what you would get for it. I know in my opinion if I was going to buy it and it worked, if it didn't look really bad, I MIGHT buy it, but that would really mean taking a look at it and seeing what is in store and what kind of condition it is in at the moment. The thing with liquid, it does weird stuff when mixed with electronics. I once had a portable gaming system that I spilled some pop on. It didn't work right away because everything was still wet and liquid and electronics don't mix well. However, after letting it dry off, it worked great. Only problem I had with it at that point were the buttons started to stick. And when they stuck, they would cause me to screw up my games sometimes becuase when I would go to push the buttons, they wouldn't go down right away and would be delayed and with games, that is the problem. When you needed the button pressed now it wouldn't go right away. This is not necessarily a problem with the computer say if you were typing or anything, but the point being, it may not show serious signs right now, but that doesn't mean that later it isn't going to. However, as stated above, you might be able to get something for it as there are other parts worth value. Maybe not the full computer, but pieces to part out if someone else were to find one that needed parts because there were parts of theirs that went bad and needed replaced. I think if you were to fully disclose what happened and let them know that there could be something still going on with it that may cause a problem down the line, you might find someone who wants to try out a mac before making that purchase of $1000 to buy a new one. I would try to sell it, worst thing that happens is you don't sell it because nobody wants it, but if that is the case you are no different then you are now.

N900 Water Damage / Vibrate doesn't work

My phone was exposed to water and I read an article to use white rice to soak up the water and hope it works. Well, it works...but the vibrate feature when receiving messages, phone calls on silent, etc...doesn't work. Anything I can do to make it work again? Like a master reset? Or is there nothing I can do in this instance?

Accidents happen with phones and water but it doesn't always mean that all hope is lost. Below is a brief guide as to what you should do if your phone has been totally immersed in water.
1. Take the phone out of the water as quickly as possible.
2. Do not attempt to switch it on as this may cause further damage.
3. Remove the battery as quickly as you can, also remove the memory and sim cards.
4. If dropped in fresh water dry it off with a towel. If dropped in salt water rinse it thoroughly with fresh water. I know it sounds crazy getting it wet again but salt can cause a lot of internal damage such as corrosion. Again dry with a towel. You may also want to rinse it if you dropped it in a toilet.
5. Place the phone, battery and it's wet accessories in a plastic container (like a lunch box) and completely cover it with uncooked rice, use plenty of it. Again this sounds crazy but rice has desiccating properties that help draw the water out of the phone. Do not place a lid on the container.
6. Place the container somewhere very warm and dry for at least 3 days. An airing cupboard is often the ideal place.
7. Do not use a hair dryer directly on the phone to speed up the process. Too much heat can cause even more damage.
This isn't guaranteed to work but many people have successfully revived their phones and retrieved their data using this method.
Keep in mind that your phone is on borrowed time after you do this. Make it your first priority to retrieve any data that you would like to keep. It may only work for a few minutes, days, weeks, months or it may even last years.
You should monitor the phone carefully during charging. If it gets very hot the battery may be damaged and should be replaced.
After any exposure to water you no longer have a warranty as water damage is not covered. Any insurance policies on the phone may also be voided unless you are covered for accidental damage.
A more efficient alternative to rice is silica gel. You most likely won't have enough of the stuff to hand when the accident happens but it is good to use. Silica gel can be bought from electronic wholesalers like this example. Thank you to shuntfield for this information.

Fans don't work.

One day,my fans of my macbook just stop spinning.
Now my macbook gets very hot and shutdown when it becomes to hot.
Are there any suggetions to make the fans spinning?

hmmmmmm. Try running the apple hardware test from your dvd that came with your macbook and see what it says. If it doesn't find anything then what you could do is reset the SMC http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411?viewlocale=en_US
If those don't work then you might have a hardware problem in which you need to take it in.

White MacBook: Why aren't my ports working?

Hey y'all, I'm using a 2006 White MacBook running on Mac OS X 10.7.5, and the USB ports aren't working. If I restart the laptop, the ports will work for a little little bit and then as soon as it finishes the reboot, they won't work. It's weird. It won't work for my iPhone 5 cable but it will work for my Mophie exernal battery case when I charge it via through USB. I plugged my iPhone 5 cable with the adapter to see if it's not working overall. However, it worked fine when I plugged it into the wall. I tried the SMC reset and the PRAM reset. Nothing is getting any better. I am trying to import pictures and this port thing is becoming very frustrating. Is there anything else I can do to fix it that doesn't require going to the apple store or something involving buying the software discs? (Incase by any chance I have to do a fresh install) Thanks all.

Well, dang. Things are getting a bit more complicated. If you have an expendable external drive of any type that is 16GB or larger, you can create an external recovery HDD. See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5911. It's possible from Recovery Mode to select which startup drive to boot. If you boot to your normal startup drive from Recovery Mode and your USB ports are working correctly, it's likely indicative that key parts of OS X on your boot drive are somehow unwell and that a reinstallation is necessary.
If you have Time Machine backups of your system, I'd probably be inclined to do a full refresh of the system:
From the App Store / Purchases, download Lion again, but do not run the installer;
Download DiskMaker X from http://liondiskmaker.com/ and use it to create bootable USB install drive (requires an 8 GB USB drive) or a DVD;
Make sure the Time Machine backup is up-to-date and accessible;
Shutdown your MacBook, turn on via the power button and press/hold the Option key at the startup tone;
Choose the USB or DVD drive to boot and install Lion;
Once Lion's base install has completed, it will prompt you to continue to login or migrate a user profile from a Time Machine backup - migrate your user account(s).
That's the worst case scenario. Before you go jumping through all those hoops, however, you'd probably want to boot the system to your original install DVD to run the hardware diagnostics. If you run the short diags and nothing is found, letting the full diags run overnight might turn up a hardware problem. If so, you've got the unfortunate problem that Apple no longer supports these systems outside of California.
If full diags indicate no detectable problems and the aforementioned booting from Recovery Mode into your usual boot disk gets your USB working again, the reinstall seems to be the best bet.

MacBook Pro fans don't work

2 weeks ago I purchased a macbook pro with an i7 at 2.9ghz, the first thing I did was to swap the hdd for an ssd then I noticed that the laptop was always quite, even when using processors intensive tasks such as gaming or photo and video editing. i downloaded smcfan to check everything was going OK and then I saw that the fan would always stay at the minimum speed, around 1800rpm even when the processor was at working hard. It even once reached 107c grades. I have reseted the SMC (didn't help) and done a hardware test which didn't come up with any problems. I donnot have acces to any other hardrive or screwdriver. Do any of you know what might the problem be?

ps. I have searched everywhere but no one seems to have the same problem, most people say the opposite, their fans are too noisy. I have also tried it with os x 10.9 but there still was a problem.

Note that you can add more memory or replace the original HDD without voiding the warranty, so in theory, your warranty is still valid unless you damaged the MacBook when you installed the SSD. The only way to check this is to install the HDD again.
I recommend you to install the HDD first and then, if it doesn't work, take it to an Apple Store

Left fans don't work ?

My brand new Macbook Pro 13'', has a problem, I observed that it gets hot very much (i think) however the fans on the left side don't blow air out while the right ones do. Do left fans blow out air ?

No. In your case the fan (singular) draws in air from both sides as well as the left rear and blows it out the right rear.
First take a close look at the excellent picture clintonfrombirmingham posted of the inside of your rMBP. Look at the left and right edges and you'll see very fine slots in the case. Air is sucked in there and is drawn over the interior parts by the fan to remove their heat.
Second, recognize that you're looking at the bottom, so, with the Mac right side up, the fan is on your right. The 15" rMBP has both built-in graphics and an NVIDIA GeForce GT graphics coprocessor which requires a second fan on the left side to keep cool. When you lift up the screen, you can see vent openings at the hinge, which the fan is pointed at and which you can also see in the picture.
The fan will respond to heat buildup during use and those vents on each side are very close to the bottom and easy to block unless the rMBP is either on a hard, flat surface or is raised. If all the vents are clear and it's still getting warm, either take it in to Apple, as clintonfrombirmingham says, or try smcFanControl, which you can use to speed up the fan beyond what Apple considers cool-enough. But don't over-do it; too much can wear the fan and suck in extra dust.

Water Damage .. Everything works fine but internal speaker

i don't know y .. i was using ipod near around swimming pool... .anyway.. i dropped it.. while my ipod play music..
i coundn't turn off my ipod.. i was so dumb..
now..everything works fine..but internal speaker doenst work..
when i unplug headphone and then use volume it shows headphone volume ...not regular volume.. ..
is that meanning internal speaker broke?

I would like to reply to make a final update. I was fixing a screen for a friend and had all the tools that came with the screen. I decided I might as well have a peek at mine and maybe blow dry inside my phone.
Well I pulled the LCD cable and could see slight corrosion on the one corner and what looked to be a little black. I figured it was shorting on that corner. I cleaned with some contact cleaner and scrapped it off gently as best I could.
Plugged everything back in and bam she works. I understand this voids my warranty but I figured I was out of warranty with the water sensors triggered.

I had small water damage but everything still worked.

Went to update software and was told to connect to iTunes so I did. Well once I did it came up as iPhone in recovery mode, please restore to factory setting. I did this because I didn't think it would be a big deal. Well 20 times later I still cannot access anything on my phone all it says it to connect to iTunes. It fails to restore everytime. I am getting really mad about this, because I mean we all buy iPhones thinking they are going to work. Even after I restore my phone, nothing happens it continues to say connect to itunes and on to the iphone in recovery mode. I have used my iphone for weeks after the water damange occured, nothing has been wrong with it up until this point.

When a 'practical' time comes, please consider taking your iPhone and placing it in a glad bag full of uncooked rice to allow the rice to absorb as much moisture as is possible. This could take up to 72 hours to complete. IF your device is currently working after the moisture accident this likely will resolve your issues.

Water damage screen does not work

I dropped my phone in water yesterday and took it out.....it blinked for a few min and then turned black. I immediately placed it in rice and it stayed there for 16 hours. I can hear my phone, listen to songs but i cannot see the screen.
Any thoughts ?

How soon after the water incident did you turn it on? Or was it already on and you left it on? It's likely not repairable.

Water damaged iphone 4, stopped working after two year , the water damage

2 years ago my phone went for a wash in washing machine, I managed to dried it up and make it work , recently the display went off while using, after charging i could see it in itunes, it kept beeping every 15 second while plugged in for charging. Then i decide to open it romove the battery and put back on nowit has no life in it if i plugged it for charging or to pc it get hot quick but won't turn on, tried the home button , power button 10 second role but no luck
...all i need to know if I want to replace any parts what parts I should replace. as the phone is pretty good condition. now the question is wether it need lcd, battery or logic board changing?
i would think as it was all working , either one of there:
battery, logic board and lcd (digitizer) might need changing?
and it might work?
any suggestion on this will be appreciated.

We can't advise you on attempting to repair it yourself. Apple does not sell iPhone parts at all. The only sources for iPhone parts are:
Stolen parts
Counterfeit parts
Salvaged parts
Since you opened it yourself, Apple won't touch it now. Find a competent 3rd party repair shop or buy a new phone.
If you really want to try fixing it yourself, look to someplace like ifixit.com for advice.

Just migrated LR4 Vista to a Macbook Pro Retina -Presets don't work?

I can not seem to migrate my presets from the WIndows environment
I have tried downloading them again, copying them
Although the appear in the Develop presets/User presets folder - they are not available in LR4?

I entered (copyed & pasted) the following commands separately into Terminal, which then prompted for my password, which I entered correctly and it proceeded to tell me that theres no such filename. But now that I'm reading your message again, it would appear that you made edits to your post.
There's no possible update, as I am running the updated OS. As for a downgrade, the ways of downgrading that I've researched seem to be a bit much, in regards to keeping data (music specifically) on my computer. Is there a way to re-do or maybe "repair" the installation of Mountain Lion?
