White mark on the retina screen

My new iPhone 4S had a white mark on the right bottom of the retina screen.
Is this a hardware problem ? and can I have a new replacement ? Thanks.

I just got it from Apple Online Store on 17 Nov 2011 and the warranty period should be 90 days from the invoice date ?
Please refer attached picture for details. Thanks zsnow.

Maybe this will show up better in green.

  • How can Apple claim the iPhone has a Super-High res screen when its not even HD? From what I understand, 1280x720 is basic high definiton, and the retina screen only goes up to 1136x640.

There's more to resolution than pixel count. Consider the pixel size on the iPhone screen in comparison to the pixel size on your forty inch HD TV.

  • Why is 1440 x 900 "Best" for the Retina Screen per Apple?

Okay, in the System Preferences folder you can set the new MBP-R screen to one of the following settings with the description Apple provides by going to the System Preferences folder, then choosing "Displays", then unselecting the default "Best for Retina display" button by choosing instead the, "scaled" button.  When you do that, you get the following choices with warnings on four of the five choices (for a screen shot see the link below):
1024 x 640,  Larger Text, "Using a scaled resolution may effect performance."
1280 x 800, "Using a scaled resolution may effect performance."
    1440 x 900, Best (Retina)
1680 x 1050 "Using a scaled resolution may effect performance."
1920 x 1200. More space, "Using a scaled resolution may effect performance."
There is no option for native 2880 x 1800 as presumably the text would be so tiny.
My question is, why does Apple call the 1440 x 900, "Best (Retina)"?  What is best about it, why do only the other four have the scaled resolution warning since they all five are scaled are they not?  Peformance concerns aside, can't I have confidence that all resolutions will be crisp as all are scaled as none are actually native (2880 x 1880)?
Then, Anand Tech has an article on how Apple handles this scaling, and they say,
"Retina MBP ships in a pixel doubled configuration. You get the effective desktop resolution of the standard 15-inch MacBook Pro's 1440 x 900 panel, but with four physical pixels driving every single pixel represented on the screen. This configuration is the best looking, . . ."
And they note the other resolutions have the potential to suffer performance and picture quality loss compared to the "Best" setting in the middle.  But they just say this quality drop "can" happen, not that it "will" happen.
    http://www.anandtech.com/show/5996/how-the-retina-display-macbook-pro-handles-sc aling
Can someone explain why this middle setting is inherently "Best", is it because the native resolution is divisible by this setting (2880 divisible by 1440; and 1800 divisible by 900)?  And why does Anand Tech say there might be a quality impact in the other four?  When would quality be compromised, when wouldn't it?
    Thanks!

Basically the native resolution of the retina display is 2880x1800.
so if you're using 1440x900 then everything is perfect (which is why apple recommends it). Every pixel can be mapped to 2 pixels of the retina display, and everything is sharp.
    for other resolutions,
Every single (clear) pixel, gets blurred with it's neighbors, or displaced and doubled, changing the size and shape of the displayed images.
Imagine two grids. One is 2x2 (4 pixels total). The other is 3x3.
Now if you scale up the 2x2 to the 3x3, you'd think you'd be ok, because the 3x3 is bigger, but what do you do with the middle pixel? Which corner's color does it get?
if you choose any of the 4 original pixels, you distort the image, so the only choice is a blurred mix of all 4 colors. It's a mess.
This is what happens when apple tries to display a 1920x1200 resolution desktop on a 2880x1800 resolution screen.
    It *****.
As a photographer all I can say is...
    no thanks.
I'm waiting for a 17" macbook pro with a decent native resolution, or it's time for another brand of computer.

  • How can I take advantage of the Retina screen while programming in JAVA?

I've been writing desktop applications for years on LINUX and MSWindows.
Now, my applications are not aware of my MacBook with Retina screen:
all pictures and measures should be twice as small and sharp.
    Those are not.
    ;JOOP!
P.S.: I installed JAVA 6 JDK from APPLE.

The cables can be found most anywhere.  For cables and adapters I always recommend searching www.monoprice.com first.  They have high quality cables for very good prices.  As an example search for TOSLINK at their site to find optical cables and related components.  It's where I got mine.

  • No startup sound and white background in the login screen

I realized that the startup sound (Mountain Lion) disappeared when I reboot, and the login screen is white now, instead of the gray usual one. Further, I think is slower then it was usually in the past. Has anyone an idea how I could solve this problem?

This the file you want to look for:
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/LoginUIKit.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/Log inUICore.framework/Versions/A/Resources/appleLinen.png
Changing this file will give you a new background. If you use a full size image, rather than a tiled one, make sure you leave transparent areas in the PNG file to permit use of the dialog buttons. Took me a bit of tweaking to get a good background I use. Be prepared to have to repeat the process every time you do a version update to the OS, as the appleLinen.png is often refreshed in updates.
make sure you follow all good practices. Make backups and only make tiny incremental changes until you are satisfied with the results. Not reccomended for novices.

  • Mark under the iPad screen

    Hey everyone.
Got my iPad last week, been waiting a while as I live in New Zealand. I'm mostly happy with the product, however the day I got it I noticed a mark under the screen. I have tried to ignore it but I can't. Its only a small mark, whatever it is. When the screen is off it visible from certain angles.
Any help would be much appreciated
    -Marcus

Take the iPad to an Apple store or authorized dealer if you can and see what they say... They may not replace it because it may not that big of a defect that would warrant replacement.

  • Best way to clean the Retina screen from smudges?

The new retina screen is wonderful, but I got finger prints on the sides and top, just from opening and closing it. It happens even when I'm finicky. Any trick to that? But more importantly: what's the best way to clean it again. Thanks for any info!

  • Do you know the specifications of the Retina Screen

  • I have both the iPad 2 and the iPad 4. Which picture will best demonstrate the difference between the Retina screen and the normal one?

So i have both the iPad Retina and the iPad 2. I am yet to be convinced that there is a difference between the quality of the pictures on the two screens. They all look the same to me. Suggest a picture which will best demonstrate the difference that a Retina is infact a much much better screen.

Look at the status bar, like where the word "iPad" appears in the upper left.
    Or...
Look at the Calendar icon on the home screen.

  • Why does the Retina Screen on MBPR2013 make a Weird Flash when I have a External Display via HDMI hooked up?

I just bought a new 2013 early MACBOOK PRO RETINA.  When i have an external Display hooked up via the HDMI port, I noitce when I wake the computer UP it has a Different type OF QUICK FLASH that comes up than when there is nothing hooked up so I don't know if that makes sense to anyone, but its very disturbing to me, it makes me wonder if there is something wrong with the HDMI PORT ?????   Has anyone else experienced this or knows if this is NORMAL behavior of the new RETINA displays or the HDMI port makes it FLASH weird upon WAKE UP???   I have unplugged the HDMI and when I do the SCREEN comes up normally it just blinks on.  But when HDMI is used its light lightening stike.  Don't know  how else to explain it, maybe i need to do a video and Post a video.

One more disturbing thing.  When the screen on my MBP goes black and I check the system preferences for "Displays", the MacBook Pro display is not presented as an existing display.  Only the still-functioning Apple 20" Cinema Display.
    Where did it go??

  • Does putting a zagg shield on my ipaid air really diminish the excellence of the retina screen

Just really wondering if I should get a zagg shield put on my ipad air.  Will it really chance the nice retina view or is there only a slight change that only a very experienced eye would notice?
Also, anybody out there us the Targus cases?

In my experience any screen protector does cause some kind of artifacts on the screen.
I had the invisible shield installed at a booth and removed it.
It caused a rainbow effect and softening of the screen.
