White numbers on colored background?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum to ask but couldn't find anywhere appropriate...
I am searching for a way to print white numbers on a colored background. Best I can tell the average printer can not print white ink. So that makes me believe I need to print the background on white paper so that the numbers look white. Is that correct? Is there a way to do this? I don't know Photoshop at all and was hoping I could do it with MSWord or something like that. Any ideas?

The link worked in Safari when I posted it, but they are converting content on the site, and since that date they've converted that page to a safari-unfriendly format.
If you go to the link in Firefox, it works. I just did it. I tried to copy the info and post it here for you, but was unable to. So, I have copied (by hand UGH!) the info below:
The color of text is a font attribute. The color of the background is a paragraph or table cell shading attribute.
1. Select the paragraphs where you want to make the change. (Highlight all the text.)
2. Choose Borders and Shading on the Format menu, click the Shading tab at the top of the dialogue box, and set the paragraph shading to black.
3. Choose Font on the Format menu and set the font to white.
Hope after all this, that (a) you have MS Word and (2) the steps set forth above work for you. Let us know how it goes.

Please clarify your "Elements 12". Is that as in Photoshop Elements 12 (photo editor) or Premiere Elements 12 (video editor). And, on what computer operating system is the program running?
Your question is pointing to Photoshop Elements 12 and that you have posted in the wrong forum. If this is a Photoshop Elements 12 question as I believe it is, please post your thread in the Adobe Premiere Elements Forum using the following link provided for your convenience

  • How to avoid transparent background converting to white in smart object(psb )when image trace High Fidelity as we have the option of ignore white upto 16 colors trace.

i have a psd image file in photoshop cc 2014 that has transparent background layer. I wanted it to convert to vector. The best option i saw was to first convert it to smart object in photoshop via Layer->Smart Objects-> Convert to smart Object. then exported it to a psb. Then i opened the file in illustrator and applied the image trace tool but the transparent background got converted to white but i had the option of ignore white upto 16 colors trace. But in case of High Fidelity Conversion, the ignore white option is not available, what should I do now?

after using  high fidelity image trace  i hit expand, then i went to layers and hit the drop arrow by my thumbnail, which then shows <Group>,hit that drop arrow and it will show a list of all your paths, the very bottom one was my white background, you can click the eye or delete that path and it disappeared for me. i was using a png file with a transparent background, and nothing else worked for me, it always converted with white background, i never saw this mentioned anywhere, and accidentally discovered it, hope it works!!!

  • Reverse white type on a colored background

Should I avoid creating a pdf document that has white type on a colored background? Will some home printers have trouble rendering the white type?

White on a colored T-shirt cannot be defined by
'paper white'. One needs an opaque ink.
    AI CS2:
    I've created a new swatch Spot1 by Lab=100,0,0
or for the first tests by Lab=90,0,0.
    Attributes > Overprint Fill.
The background (T-shirt) can be defined in CMYK or
    preferably by another Spot2.
The CMYK channels or this Spot channel are anyway
    ignored for printing.
    The separation is OK.
The text is not knocked out in the background and
Spot1 shows the text. But Spot1 is so far not opaque
    in the simulation.
In InDesign I would choose for this spot in the ink
    manager 'opaque'.
THEN the overprint preview is correct (in ID): white
opaque text on a black background.
Where is this ink manager feature in AI ?

  • Should I overprint to avoid white space between colors when printing?

    Hello all,
I hope I don't get slammed for posting the wrong way! But I'll try.
I print on a Summa DC4 thermal printer which prints one color at a time.
I am using Illy CS4 with a cmyk document, all vectors.
    My Question is:
Should I overprint to avoid white space between colors?
CMYK document (But only the YMK will print) which contains:
    100% black background (rectangle)
    0% (white) Copy
    and Red (star) -  100% yellow x 100% magenta
    printed on white vinyl.
the red object (star in this case) should bleed or overprint into the black background. Instead I get almost a white outline around the red star where the registration was minutely off.
How can I avoid this from happening? By setting the yellow & magenta to overprint? I don't want the black to subtract the red object (star)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
    Sincerely,
    C.

I am unfamiliar with the Summa printer, but it sounds like there is no built-in provision for trapping.
In that case, you should stroke the red star with the same color as the fill (100M + 100Y) and set only the stroke to overprint. That way, you still knock out the star area from the black background, but you've created the necessary spread trap to deal with the slight misregistration. Use the smallest possible stroke weight needed to solve your problem.

  • How do I save an image (logo) transparent so that it will appear transparent on any color background such as a gradient or black?

How do I save an image (logo) transparent so that it will appear transparent on any color background such as a gradient or black?
I save image as "transparent" at File > New... but when I place on a gradient background it keeps appearing white. I'm trying to save transparent to be effective on any color such as a gradient or black.  How do I truly save as transparent?

Put the logo on its own layer set the layer fill to 0 and add a layer style to the logo layer.  Here I duped one change fill to 0 added style.

  • Make Black and White PDF from Color JPGs

I don't have a scanner and use my digital camera to make 2-3 page document PDFs occasionally.  I take a picture of a page, crop it in an image editor, and finally drag and drop the jpgs into Acrobat to create a pdf.  The problem is that these docs don't print very well because they are created in color.  Is there an easy way to make them in black and white instead of color?   I don't want greyscale documents, because they don't print very well either.

    ~graffiti wrote:
Grayscale would be the way to go to retain shadows and tints.
I'm dealing with text-based documents on colored paper, so shadows and tints are exactly what I don't want.
Printing a greyscale image on a laser printer produces the same result as printing the original image in full color.
I'm not sure what you mean by that. Could you elaborate a bit?
I use a non-color laserjet.  Printing a color document with a black and white printer and printing a greyscale document converted from that doc will print the exact same thing, i.e. black text with nasty grey backgrounds.

  • How to create transparent text on a solid color background?

I want to create a transparent text on a solid color backround, and I need text transparency to go all the way to through the image (i.e. do not show the solid color background). I have the transparent background layer, the solid rectangle layer that occupies part of the image, and the text layer (with text element) on the top of the solid rectangle layer. How do I make text transparency to go all the way through? Here is a similar example for Photoshop CS, only in my case, the backround layer is transparent (i.e. there is no picture): http://www.photoshopessentials.com/photo-effects/transparent-text-area/. Basically, I need to make the letters see through, so they show the backround color on which the image will be placed. Is it possible to do in Photoshop Elements? I'm using version 9 on Windows 7. Thanks.

Thank you all for the suggestions, especially 99jon. 99jon's walktrhough is helpful, but I was hoping to find a workaround that would allow keeping transparent text that goes all the way through all other layers to transparent background as a text level, but once I flatten the image, I'd lose the text layer, so I cannot make any changes to it (like slightly change the font, size, style, face, etc). Let me clarify a bit what I'm trying to do to see if there is an even better option.
Say, I need to have a 300x300 pixel image that (forget about photos) consists of a solid-color circle (circle can be white, black, red, blue, or any solid color, or gradient, does not matter) on a transparent background, and inside of this circle I'd like to cut out a word (say, the word "TEST" with no bevels or other decoration, just flat font) all the way to the transparent background. I just need a circle with text cut out and showing around the circle and through the word "TEST". So if a circle is white and I place the image on a blue background, the word "TEST" would be in blue (so would be the area around the circle).
Is there a way to set it up to allow changing the color of the circle (say, from white to black, or blue, or red) and keep smooth edges of the text (and circle) blending with the background (i.e. avoid jagged edges) without redoing every color variation from scratch? Like, getting some master file which would define size and position of the elements,a s well as font, etc, and from this master file, use simple adjustments to change the color.
Ideally (in my dream world), there would be an option for the text element to be of transparent color that would go through all layers below it. But there must be a not too complex way to do this, right?

  • Black and white photo with color added back

I want to be able to turn a photo black and white, then add color back in, say for instance a ball turned back to red only.  How can I do that in elements 11?  It's driving me crazy!  Help

You need to duplicate your color photo.
    1. Open your color photo in PSE11 Full Edit expert tab (A raw photo will open in camera raw so click the open image button too send it to the PSE interface)
    2. On the Top menu click Layer >>Duplicate Layer >>OK
    3. On the top menu click Enhance >>Convert to Black & White >>OK
    4. If you can’t see the layers pallet to the right click Window >>Layers
    5. In the layers pallet click add layer mask (the icon with a small circle)
    6. Make sure your foreground color is set to black then select the brush tool
    7. Click the mouse over the area where you wish to reveal color and use like an eraser to reveal the background below
    8. To correct errors switch the foreground color to white, then switch back to black and continue
    9. Save as PSD to preserve your layers and if you wish make a jpeg copy from the PSD file using File >> Save As
N.B. if your brush is too big or too small you can use the square bracket keys to adjust the size up or down.
The smart brush tool has black & white options but it does involve making selections which can be more tricky than using the ordinary brush.

  • White Balance in Color

I have been using Color for my first short film and I wanted to get feedback about my process in balancing the white balance. Color is absent the easy white balance eye-dropper. So this is my process in the Primary In room.
    1. Balance the contrast - crushing blacks and boosting the highlights.
    2. Balance skin tone using the mid-tones color wheel.
    3. "Eye-ball" the white balance by moving the Highlights color wheel until I achieve whites I deem white.
Do the scopes help me balance the white better? Is this a proper process? After I complete these steps I move to saturation and secondary CC.
    Thoughts?

If you were airline pilots, I'm not sure I'd want to fly with that carrier. Instruments are there for some reason, I guess, but you don't need 'em on ultralights, but on second thought maybe that's why there are so many stall-spin fatals. Hmmmmm. Well, anyway...
COLOR does have an auto balance, but it needs something in the frame that really wants to be R=G=B, because that is what it does, after sneaking a peak at where the corresponding Y-luminance sits. Sometimes its a reasonable starting point. But if the brightest thing in the picture really is a brilliant blue, then it won't work.
COLOR is concatenated Primary In, Secondary, COLORFX, Primary Out deliberately. The opening premise is to achieve a balanced, non-clipped, non-crushed image to send onwards for qualified-area corrections, look enhancement, and then overall final contrast, overexposure and black crushing at the end in Primary OUT. That was the idea. Its how Silicon Color trained the first round of Final Touch operators. You are free to pursue any avenue that achieves the result you desire.
Use of instruments. It is possible to use the scopes to achieve balance, especially using the vectorscope display. One of the simplest concepts is to learn to "lay the furball over the origin". Eventually you will figure out what part of the furball corresponds to the white point, the black origin, and how to guide the values into a particular area, especially when hue matching scene-to-scene in the still store. One of the egregious drawbacks of the COLOR scopes is the omission in the RGB parade of the Y signal. That would be most helpful (to people who pay attention to that stuff) and its why its the default on most outboard scopes. I'm particularly fond of the Tektronix Double-Diamond gamut display... makes getting a grey scale as simple as "standing up" the two trees.
Strictly speaking you don't really need to know what the exact numbers are, until you try to get a project past a QA somewhere. Those people have no sense of humour.

  • Photoshop-how to print white letters on transparent background

I would like to print white letters on a transparent background.  The color white is selected, but it doesn't print print.  I have a logo with a circle and the letters are inside.  I have tried this in both photoshop and photoshop elements.
Originally, I wanted a white circle with black letters.  The black letters print, but not the circle.  The circle is filled with pure white.  Then I tried the inverse and the black letters printed and not the white circle.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

One thing more, in the event that you are considering offset lithography, the lithographer, on occasion, is asked to print white ink on colored paper stock. In that case, since a single litho ink film is only 1 to 2 microns in thickness, it usually takes two or more overprints of white to hide the paper color. Moreover, when a simulated white panel is requested  on white coated stock, it is not unusual to print the panel in gloss or dull varnish so that the difference in shine creates the panel.

  • View Options: Can't Pick Colored Background?

Colored backgrounds for folders like Applications, etc. carried over after upgradingto 10.7, but when I clicl on Arrange by Name to put things back in order the background color disappears and is replaced with white. When I click on Show View Options to choose a colored background, the options are greyed out and choosing a color isn't possible. Any way to rectify this?

There are definitely no "size" or "kind" boxes under View>Options, see screengrab. I didn't delete any playlists, they disappeared!
