White outline around images in pdf

Ok I've searched google for help and have not found any tips. I'm using CS4. I'm creating a document in indesign. I've placed some psd files into the document. In photoshop they are an object with a transparent background.
Now they look fine when printing and when viewing in indesign. But when i output as a ps from indesign, then take it into distiller it creates a pdf with a white outline around the image. Why is this happening? See attachement. Outline is on the bottom, it's a really thin line.
I do file print, select adobe pdf 8.0 then i pick the postscript option, then hit print to save the pdf. I've tried changing from CMYK to leave unchanged for color options. Please help!!!

Try searching for the term stitching. That should give you plenty.
In short, what you're seeing is the result of your archaic workflow causing the transparency to be flattened. The preferred and recommended method for PDF creation is through direct export, maintaining all transparency in the document.

  • Hairline white line around images in PDF for press

    CS3, Windows XP
I searched the forum and didn't find this exact question, so..., I place PSD file in ID. When I export to PDF for the press run, I get a thin hairline white box around the photo. It only seems to happen when the placed image is over a gradient. It also only happens on PDF files for press run - either Press Quality or PDF/X-1a:2001. When I export to "Smallest File Size" it looks fine. I have the border of the image set to 0 and the color to None.
And it only seems to happen sometimes. A month or so ago I created a similar piece using different photos, but the same gradient background and it looked and printed fine.
    Thoughts?
    JAG

The stitching and a grey box was showing up on my press proofs. The printer suggested that I flatten the image before I send it to them.
Sometimes I see in on screen and sometimes I don't, but my printer says they see it every time and that it will show up on the proof. I've been trying several different PDF exporting options in ID. We are getting the proofs done correctly, but there's only one guy at my printer that can get the file corrected. I'm not sure exactly what he is doing, but one of the people I deal with suggested that he was opening the file in PS, flattening it again, and exporting to PDF, again.
He's the boss and not alway around, so I'm trying to figure out how I can get file exported correctly.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Black outlines around images in pdfs from Indesign

I'm not sure if this is an Indesign problem or Acrobat. I have imported several photoshop files in which I have deleted the background around the figures. The background is transparent. When I make a pdf from Indesign, there is a black outline that appears, tracing the edge of the figures. Does anyone know what might cause this and how to fix. I have imported this kind of file many times with no problems.

Check if they're RGB in PS. I had this problem recently when exporting to PDF. It didn't show in ID file but showed in PDF. I converted to CMYK, relinked, and exported new PDF and the problem went away.

  • How can I print a booklet without a white outline around the border?

How can I print a booklet without a white outline around the border? I'd like the front page to be covered entirely.

You either need a borderless printer, or you have to print on oversize paper and trim off the bleed.

  • DW8-Fine white line around images

DW8 - On some of my images there is a very fine white line
around the edge when the site is previewed in the browser. The site
has an almost-black background color (181714), and I use the same
color in making the image backgrounds (in Photoshop CS), for
example roll-over images. How do I get rid of this?

You wouldn't set this in the Property inspector, you'd set it
    in the CSS,
and the only time you need it would be when the image is
    within a link:
    a img { border:none; }
Also, you wouldn't expect this effect to produce a white
    border - it would
be a blue one (by default).
I'm guessing the fine white line is part of the image (it's
    easy to
undercrop when the canvas is white).

    > that in tables, having nothing there is "bigger" than
    specifying a zero.
If you have nothing there, you will get the default value for
    the all of the
table attributes, which is often (but not always) not zero.

  • How do I get rid of faint white boxes around images?

Some files that I have printed have faint white boxes around images.  The images were saved in photoshop with transparent backgrounds that seem to be showing up faintly in the final printed image.  Does anyone know how I can get rid of this problem?

    signspec,
What happens if you print from Illy?
Your printer (driver) may be overly helpful and performs a bit of colour management all by itself. You may have a look and disable any such management in the printer (driver) options.

  • I'm shooting great white screen but when I key out the white background, I have a very thin white outline around my person that I don't know how to soften without loosing some facial opacity. Any suggestions?

    Hi,
I'm shooting white screen and FINALLY have my lighting, white balance, exposure and focus making a great looking, crispy clip! But when I key out the white background in a short segment, I'm left with a very thin, white outline around my person that I don't know how to soften, without loosing facial opacity. I only tried using the 'Edges' tool. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

No separate server app on the laptop, it's all samba
The files are on a windows laptop and a hard drive hooked up to the windows laptop. The windows share server is pants, so I'd need some sort of third party server running. Maybe you weren't suggesting to use Samba to connect to the windows share though?

  • I need a white outline around a movie character, and animate it. Like song 'Stacys Mom'

In the music video Stacys mom by Foundations of Wayne, theres pictures on the wall of a band playing, with shaky white outlines around their bodys, i want to create this effect around actors / band members in my movie .

    I have Adobe AE CS6

Either film your talent on a chroma screen and key them out, or it's time to learn about rotoscoping.

  • When I tilt images and text, some people see the white outline around them.

    Here is my site
    http://web.mac.com/chawayos/portfolio/menu.html
everything on this page is tilted by using the yellow ruler on inspector button
It seems ok with me. But some people that use PC also see the white outline and a red cross around the spot that has been tilted like this (Wanna show you all but cant find how to post pics here)
I guess that's because I tilt them and the white outline is like a guide to show 90 degree before tilted.
Please open my site and let me know what you see.
And if you know how to remove it, let me know pleaseeee

  • White border around edge of pdf (not picture related)

I've been fumbling with this for days and can't figure it out.  I guess that means it's probably something really simple.
I'm using CS5 and am trying to create a book cover for self-publishing.
The artboard is set to 17.28" wide and 11" tall with .125 bleed.
I created a blue rectangle (no stroke) as a background to cover the artboard and the bleed so it measures at 17.53" wide (17.28"+.25") and 11.25" tall.
Theoritically that should work?  However, when I save as a pdf (or print to pdf), the document size is 17.53" wide and 11.25" tall, but there is a white gap around the top/bottom/right edge.
    I've tried:
    - making the rectangle larger than the bleed section
    - making the artboard a little larger
    - no stroke/with stroke around the rectangle (thinking it had something to do with what others have been experiencing with white lines)
    - making sure smooth line art is selected
    - a host of other things
    .. but no change.
Image is attached, but may need to zoom in to see problem.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi Jacob,
    Thanks for the response.
I tried your suggestions - no change.
It's a simple file with not a lot of complicated items, basically just three rectangles to which I was going to add text later for the titles, etc.
The width of the artboard takes into account the size of the spine, which is calculated for each book since they have different number of pages.
I've uploaded the file if you want to take a look at it as it doesn't make much sense to me. The file can be downloaded from here:

  • Help!!  White line around image with placed in Illustrator from Photoshop, possible CMYK issue?

I have a CMYK file, outlined product, that looks perfect in Photoshop.  When I place the image into Illustrator, it shows up with a thin white line around parts of the product (fyi - it shows up on a print as well). I have tried to place an RGB file and it does not have the white line around the product.    I assume it has something to do with it being CMYK, but I'm at a loss on how to fix this.  I'm desperate for any help.

Okay, please refer this image and change the option within Ai General preferences. Uncheck the option Anti-Aliased artwork.

  • Motion 5 is giving me a white outline around my luma matte.

    Hello,
I am having a small issue where my motion template is giving me a small white line around the edge of my luma matte.
This project was created in Motion 4 and it looked fine and then I updated it to Motion 5 and now I get the white outline.  The settings are both the same.
Here are the two images showing my issue, first is Motion 4 and then Motion 5:
Here are the setting in Motion 5, they match motion 4 for the matte:
I double checked both settings on Motion 4 and 5 and they match.  I have no clue on what is going on.
Let me know if anyone has any suggestions.
If anyone wants to see the full animation you may find it here:

Thank you and have a wonderful day!
    Deyson Ortiz

I figured out the problem.  I had created 2 different mattes.  The one on top shows a luma matte of the break and the one under neath shows the luma matte of the break in reverse and the screen matte.  So what I did is redo the matte under the top one with just the screen matte and no break.
It seems if you have two mattes that are top of each other and reveresed you get a white like of the split line.
I hope this expains the issue .
This is the top most matte which is correct:
This is the second matte I had, which is wrong as it will cause the white split:
This is the second matte that does work.  I only need the break matte from the top matte, this second proper matte only mattes out the screen with no break and no white outline.
I hope that makes sence.  It took me a while to figure it out.
    Have a great day!

  • White halo around image

    Hi there,
I have a font set to a  large size 1065 pt as it's for a banner - however I am getting a slight grey white border around the image, kind of like a faint stroke but the stroke is turned off. Turning a stroke on matching my font colour doesn't help.
I have tried doing the font in a small point size to begin / converting that to outlines and then upscaling but the halo returns. I have tried exporting the design as a jpg and scaling down to sensible screen size and the halo remains all be it in reduced nature.
Any advice on how to avoind this as I don' want to sent the doc to print if the artefact remains even then.
    Ta,
    Al.

    Thanks guys.
I think the black text halo is ok - I have attached a screen shot of the edge of a letter.
However I am seeing jagged edges on the pink abstract background.
Is this there to stay and will it be shown on the print?
For the record it is an Illustrator smudge shape scaled up with the artistic watercolour brush outline applied to it.
Noticably the screen shot which is my second attached example is direct from Illustrator print screen and this shows no jagged edge. Hmm at this size it's hard to see but it is there.

  • White boxes around images

Hi, I know this is a basic question but it's causing me a lot
    of grief.
When I place images on coloured backgrounds, they have white
    boxes
around them. Is the only way to get around this to manipulate
    the
image itself in photoshop? I've tried this but it still
    doesn't look
right - there are jagged edges. Or I've tried giving the
    image the
same colour background in photoshop so it blends, but there
    is a white
edge. How do others handle this? Some expert advice would
    really be
    great to have.

If you are seeing white borders against colored backgrounds,
    then this means
that the white is part of the image. There would be no way to
    remove that
short of editing the image in your image editing program.
