White point selection when profiling monitor

When profiling monitor, many sources say that begin with the native white point of monitor and then compare different white points in order to find best working white point selection for your ambient conditions.
There is an option in i1Display Pro and you can specify the target white point as the CCT of ambient lighting conditions.
I decided to try this one ... and I calibrated my monitor exactly what the instructions said, but at the end I got completely unrelated achieved CCT as seen in the following image.
I would like to learn the reason for such a unrelated finish.
My second question: From the point of view of color theory, what do you think about specifying the target white point as the CCT of ambient lighting?
And, my last question: I've got contrast ratios approximately 1:700 from my previous measurements, but now it said that it is 1:425 as seen in the image ... what do you think about such a great difference from a measurement to a measurement?
Thanks a lot ...

  • Pen Tool, add new point keeps previous point selected?

This has bugged me immensely ever since the new versions of inDesign adopted this habit, is there a work-around?
Say I want to make a customly shaped frame around a photo that's imported in the standard rectangle shape and I don't want it to be a circle, rounded rectangle, or polygon that I can simply "convert shape" to. I could try editing the path with the pencil tool but typically that will create 100+ anchor points of vector disaster.
What I used to do in CS2, CS3, CS4 is grab the handy pen tool, add a point  and  move it where I want with the direct selection tool by simply holding CMD (ctrl).
But now, (not sure if it started in CS5, CS5.5, or CS6) when I add a new point it keeps the previous points selected. Rubbish, now I can't move the new point where I want it without moving the previous however many I created. And there's no simple 1-click method of only selecting the point I just made (that I know of). Re-clicking with the direct selection tool does nothing and clicking other selected points does not deselect them.
So in order to move the point I just made, by itself, I have to deselect all points then reselect the point I want to move, which is really tricky if it's under other objects.
Does anyone know how to have ONLY the new point selected when I add a point? Or even have no points selected so I can easily CMD+click the ones I want to move?

It looks like what is needed is some way to deselect all the points on a selected object, while keeping the object itself selected.
Using the built-in InDesign tools, the way to do that would seem to be: switch to the direct selection white arrow tool (by pressing CMD) as you have been doing. Click anywhere on the path of the object. This clears all selected points while keeping the object selected. Now release CMD to get back to the Pen tool, and add your point.
If this is too fiddly (it can be tricky to click on the path itself, although the white arrow changes subtely to show you that you're over the path), you can alternatively use the following one line script:
    try {app.selection[0].select()}catch(_){};
This does the same thing: It deselects all selected points on the current page item.
To use, copy this line to a text editor. Save with the extension .jsx and place in your InDesign scripts folder. You can then assign a keyboard shortcut to the script, so that it should be very easy to deselect all the points.

  • White Balance - Eye Dropper and Monitor Calibration

Does the eye dropper correctly set the white point even if the monitor is not correctly calibrated? I do calibrate monthly with the XRite but I'm not sure that the calibration is perfect.
I use a grey card, and the eye dropper in LR. So even though I calibrate - must the monitor be correctly calibrated for the eye dropper to work?
... and now tell me what monitor you love for photo editing.  Thanks

    Thanks for this answer,
I am using a Dell LCD monitor and have been happy with the color, but can not get skin tones right in my prints,  they look washed out after I do a grey card white balance.  So I just ordered a Eizo CG222WBK,  now I'll only have myself to blame if my images don't look right

I can no longer see my pictures.....the screen is white boxes but when I click on the box an exclamation point pops up. Please Help!!!!

The exclamation point occurs when iPhoto breaks/loses the file path to the original file.  So try the following: make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot AND
the option to rebuild the small thumbnails.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

I have 2 screens at work and 1 screen at home. I was working on a power point presentation on 2 monitors with the presentation on monitor externally hooked up to my computer. My window is now "stuck" when I open Power Point. I cannot drag it back to a display or find any way to move it back into my view. Help!!!

Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc.

  • White point of the Qosmio G40 monitor

I need to calibrate my monitor for my G40 but the white point information is missing. Does anyone know what the white point is?

    Hi,
so, why do you need to calibrate your monitor? I mean, its a TFT and I dont know any reason why to do it. Maybe a better description or explanation of your situation would be REALLY useful for those which want to help you.
By the way: I couldnt find any information about "white point" so it depends from the application you use, to find out what this "white point" information is...
Would appreciate some feedback from you.

  • How to select my custom monitor calibration profile into Lightroom 5.7?  I used i1 Display Pro to calibrate my monitor, I could not find or confirm that Lightroom is using my custom monitor calibration profile? Thank you very much.

How to select my custom monitor calibration profile into Lightroom 5.7?  I used i1 Display Pro to calibrate my monitor, I could not find or confirm that Lightroom is using my custom monitor calibration profile? Thank you very much.

The monitor profile is set at system level. Lightroom will find it there and use it. You're not supposed to do anything, i1 Profiler will do it all for you.
Go here to confirm that the right profile is set as system default (Windows):

Backup in case your disk is failing.
Start up in Safe Mode;  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14204?viewlocale=en_US
If it boots reliably in Safe Mode then it is probably a software issue.
    Reset PRAM: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
Boot in Recovery Mode.  (Hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys as your computer restarts.)  Run Disk Utility.  Click on the upper left system disk icon.  Does S.M.A.R.T. report “Verified”?  If not the disk is failing and will need to be replaced.  Click on the icon underneath and indented to the right, usually called “Macintosh HD”.  Repair Disk.  It should finish normally with a green OK message.  If it does not try to repair it again.
If it will not finish with the green OK message then use Disk Utility to erase the drive and then reinstall OS X.  (Be sure you have a backup before erasing the disk.  Post back if you need instructions on how to do that.)
If it repaired all errors and is still not booting normally, reinstall OS X.
If it is still sick after all these steps then the disk probably needs to be replaced.  You can do that inexpensively and fairly easily yourself or take it to an Apple store for them to do it for you at a higher cost.  If it is still under warranty or AppleCare have Apple do it for you for free.  Post back if you need instructions on replacing the disk.  You may want to have Apple check the health of the system and disk before replacing it yourself.

  • RGB % values no longer visible in white balance selection tool loupe

When using the white balance selection tool in LR3.3 RC the RGB values no longer show in the loupe window while moving the tool around the picture. The only way I can get the values to show is to stop moving the tool and then click any one of several keys (e.g. Ctrl, or Shift, or Alt, or \, etc.) As soon as I then move the tool the RGB values again disappear until I stop and again click one of the keys.  It had worked fine previously in LR3 (?before I updated from 3.2 to 3.3 - that is, the values would show continuously as I moved the tool around the image.   Any thoughts about what to do?
    Thanks.

Nice to see you here Tom..  Thanks for the update.  Is it somehow related to some of the other issues being reported about the TAT tool, just thinking they are both perhaps "pointer" related?

  • Native white point for Mac on Dual 23" Displays

I just tried yet again to calibrate my Dual 23" displays and get rid of a yellow cast that showed up from calibration ****.
The monitors are pretty close in color and I am using the Eye One Match Display calibrator. This unit is a couple years old (When I check it tells me I am using the latest version- 3.62) but I believe it to be functioning OK.
The read out I get as a summery of the calibration process is : Target>N.W.P versus Current>2300K.
So in order to figure out if I am close , I am asking what should be the actual value in color temperature of "Native White Point" on this hardware (G5,x800xt, 23"Cinema Display)

You could get a 400 to 800 FireWire adapter
    <http://www.sonnettech.com/product/fw_adapter.html>
and use the FireWire 800 port, or just leave it unplugged if you don't need the FireWire ports on both monitors.

  • I & O in and out point selection glitch...

    Hi,
Having a bit of a nightmare with a weird little glitch that has only just started happening with Premiere CS6.
(I don't know if it's relevant, I've now got Pr CC - but still using CS6 on some client projects. And this has only started happening afer CC install)
Anyway... Every time I'm selecting an 'in / out' point in the source monitor - the grey slider bar underneath is cropping in on the source footage. To be clear, I'm talking about when you select the source monitor and press + or - to zoom in on just a part of your source footage and the grey bar reduces in size.
So, when I'm trying to grab bits of footage from a take, it keeps zooming in on that slider bar. It's driving me nuts as I have to keep zooming back out after every time I make a selection!
Incidently, it happens when I click on the in out selection buttons in the source monitor and not just when using the I & O shortcut keys.
Can anyone please tell me what is going on, as it's making my edit a nightmare!
    Thanks in advance!

  • Desktop background stops functioning when switchiing monitors

Thanks, apple forums - you archived my thread before it was solved!
I have an original Core Duo Macbook Pro 17" with 10.6.2, and an external Samsung 1600x1200 LCD.
When at home, I use the built-in 1680x1050 LCD for working. When at work, I keep the lid closed and plug in my 1600x1200 LCD using DVI.
There are three problems that occur when switching monitors:
    1. All desktop icons disappear. No context menu appears with right click. No selection rectangle appears when dragging. This occurs 20% of the time.
    2. Desktop icons move approx 200 pixels right and/or down from their original locations. The selection rectangle does not appear under the mouse cursor but is also shifted by around 200 pixels right and/or down. I can double click on icons but I have to click 200 pixels up/left from where they appear on the screen. This occurs the other 80% of the time.
    3. Mouse cursor is heavily corrupted - it shows up as a random block of pixels approx 100 pixels wide and 20 pixels high. Mouse pointer will come back if I hover over an area of text, for example in Mail. This occurs randomly, around 50% of the time.
To fix 1 and 2, I can do a "killall Finder" from a Terminal.
If I have a web browser open when I switch monitors, the mouse location is incorrectly read and I have to close the window to correct this (i.e. when moving the mouse cursor down a drop-down box, the highlighted item is about 200 pixels down from the cursor location).
It seems to me that there is some code in OS X that is broken when switching between primary monitors that are different resolutions. I'm looking to buy a new Mac but I won't be interested until this problem is fixed since this affects my daily work.
    Thanks.

The problem occurs with any monitor a different native resolution to the MacBook Pro's built-in 1680x1050 panel.
The problem does not show up if the externel panel is connected before cold-booting the computer because the nature of the problem is that the problem occurs when changing monitors. I will connect the externel panel before coming out of sleep, or disconnect after going to sleep.

  • Drop down menus on iPad, the first selection in the drop down will not load as a selection when using safari, what can I do?

Drop down menus on iPad, the first selection in the drop down will not load as a selection when using safari, what can I do?  I use this for my mobile, on-site auto repair business and not being able to call up repair and diagnostic info and reference for some cars is troublesome for sure. It works fine on the computer and I have installed a remote desktop app as a workaround but it is unreliable because the desktop is not business dedicated and may be off or in use at the time. So is there a known fix for this?
Let me paint a more descriptive picture, visualize 4 drop down selection menus, first one is for year, next one is for make, 3rd one is model and the last one is for engine size/type. If I wanted to choose a 2012 vehicle it wont work because it is the top selection on the list. This can be forced by selecting any other year and then coming back to 2012. Ok fine, but then let's say I wanted to choose Acura as the make, well it won't take it because again it's the top selection. Again you work around it be selecting any other make and coming back to Acura. Ok now select the model, same trend follows. But now since most Acura vehicles come with dedicated engines and no optional engines I have only 1 selection in that final drop down menu and it will not take my selection and therefore never let me proceed to the info I need.
This is also true when ordering parts from my wholesaler's website, they use drop downs and I can only get to that last drop down and then I'm stuck. This is blindingly frustrating, what options do I have. I'm not opposed to any avenue at this point.

Did you ever figure this out? I bought my iPad last week to use in my business as well. I assume you are trying to use alldata? That is where I noticed this same issue. I had problems with identifix working with safari but downloaded a different browser and that works fine. Alldata does not work with either browser. The main difference is that on identifix if there is only one engine selection, it automatically selects the only option and continues to the home page. With alldata you have to make the selection manually even if there is only one option. Honestly if I can't get this to work I am going to return the iPad as it looses a significant amount of usefulness to men

  • Mac mini VPN headless, slow graphics performance when no monitor plugged in

I am using a Mac mini, headless, with no monitor, keyboard or mouse, via VPN from a Windows machine over a LAN. Everything works fine and setting everything up was a breeze. However, something very odd I noticed was that if my Mac mini does not have a monitor plugged in to its video output, the rendering of the graphics over the VPN is very slow. It is most noticable when hovering over the dock and activating the animations etc, though it is noticable all the time. It's so bad that it would be IMPOSSIBLE to watch a video clip or simple animation. It's as though frames are being dropped. Now, this can be immediately fixed if a monitor is plugged into the Mac mini and turned on, and the VPN to the Mac mini from my Windows machine works flawlessly and the graphics are rendered perfectly, with little to no delay or frame skipping.
I have a hunch that the Mac could be disabling some kind of graphics acceleration when the monitor is not plugged in, but I am not a Mac expert by far, this is my first Mac experience. It was purchased solely for the VPN and headless use, so if I can't get it working properly, it's a waste.
Note, I have tried several VPN client/viewer combinations and they do not change the situation.
    Thanks in advance.

Also, when I try to use the remote with the Mac mini (pressing the menu button), over VPN with no monitor attached to the machine, I simply get a white blank screen until I press the menu button again.

I must have been HALF ASLEEP when I wrote this.
I do not mean VPN, I mean VNC!!. Sorry for the confusion.

  • Disable Edit Point Selection

An old thread turned back up recently and reminded me of this.  I know a lot of keyboard editors requested edit point selection and Adobe has catered to that request.  Unfortunately, a lot of us combo editors (keyboard/mouse) are now stuck with a feature that actually slows down the edit process.  I'd love to return to the way 5.5 worked in this regard - no edit point selection, and only Slide or Ripple edits available with the normal Selection tool (V), with Rolling edits requiring the switch to the Rolling Edit tool (N).  So, here is a Feature Request that can be copied/pasted into the Adobe form.
Please add a new option under Edit>Preferences>General... labeled "Allow Edit Point Selection".  With this option checked, Premiere Pro would function as it does in CS6 and the user would be able to select edit points in the sequence.  With it unchecked, Premiere Pro would function as it did in 5.5 and no such selection would be possible.
Regardless of how that box is checked, please remove the ability to perform Rolling Edits when the standard Selection Tool is being used (V) as it actually interferes when trying to access the normal Slide or Ripple edit functionality.  For Rolling Edits, we have a Rolling Edit tool.  We do not need that functionality doubled up.
    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

I canreally  understand why "drag and drop and mouse trim" (plus razor tool) editors might dislike Edit Point Selection functionality.
So...I dont mind if you guys do get your wish as regards making this an OPTION....but I do not want it to dissapear or get broken!
I am fine with Edit Points and have adapted to it by a simple change of how I "edit the cuts and trims".  I really like my new "edit style" but admit I also get caught by it occassionally.
In that regard....I wont support your Feature Request because I am fearful that something else will get broken in the process of fulfilling your wish.... or something else will change that I have to adapt to again.
    Good luck anyway.
