White Screen at power up

Lately, when I press the power button, the screen simply turns white and nothing happens. I have to then press and hold the power button to power off then start over to power it back up. This only seems to have started after installing Mountain Lion.
Any Ideas? I do not have it in sleep mode.

Try holding the Option key as you start up. The Startup Manager code is all in ROM, so nothing needs to be perfect.
It will draw an icon for each potentially-bootable Volume, and invite you to choose one.
Choose Recovery_HD, and start Disk Utility.
Select your boot drive by Hardware_name and check the SMART status at the lower right for verified,
Select your regular Boot Volume (Macintosh_HD unless you changed it) and ( Repair Disk ) The inspection and Repair should take about five minutes.

White Screen

I seem to be having a problem with my MacBook Pro and I was wondering if anyone could give me any suggestions.
Earlier today I was watching a show on Hulu through Firefox, and then I opened Adium. After the buddy list loaded, I decided to close it again. When I closed Adium, my machine froze on me. The audio for the television show I was watching continued to come through even though the video froze, and the cursor was able to move, but the machine would not respond to any commands. I attempted to click on the Adium icon again and I attempted to open the force quit menu through the keyboard shortcut, but nothing was working. After letting it sit for about 1 minute, I powered the machine down manually. When I went to power it back on, I received the white screen and power up noise, but the machine would not boot into the grey screen with the apple logo and the loading wheel.
Here are the things I have attempted to do (tell me if I did them wrong):
Reset the PRAM (Hold CMNDOption+RP on boot up)
Reset the NVRAM (Take out battery, press and hold power button until second boot up sound)
Boot into Single User Mode (Hold S on power on)
Boot into Safe Mode (Hold Shift on power on)
Boot from the OS disk (Insert Disk, hold C on power on)
The machine only responded to two different commands. Once, when I attempted to boot from the OS disk, the cursor came up, and it was responsive to moving, but nothing else happens. The second thing is that the machine will boot into Target Disk Mode, although I don't have another machine and firewire cable to check or transfer anything at the moment.
After reading a few more comments on here and other forums, I also powered on the machine once and simply let it sit for about half an hour, with no results.
The hard drive isn't making any weird noises, and the fans turn on after a few minuets of the machine being powered on, as the case starts to heat up very quickly.
Here are the specs on the machine:
MacBook Pro, mid-2007 model
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz
Came with 10.4.10, has been continually upgraded to 10.6.4
The NVidia card was replaced by Apple once in mid-2009 after having the issues that were prevalent with that model. Apple also replaced the Super-Drive and HD at that time. The new HD is 200GB, but I am not sure of the brand or other specs.
If anyone has any ideas about this and can point me in the right direction, please let me know. It's an hour drive to my nearest Apple store and I don't really have the cash to have the machine worked on overly much, so any advice that anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.

If you are unable to boot from your install disc, you do have a serious problem.

White screen MacBook air

Hi my MacBook air has a white screen when power on and then still white not starting OS... ??

Try inserting the disk that came with it and then boot from that while holding down the Option (alt) key and selecting the separate disk. Then use System Report from Disk Utility. If that doesn't do any good, then boot into Safe Mode by pressing f12 while rebooting.

After reading and resetting everything with Keyboard I still get blank white screen. The only way I can boot to Mavericks is unplug power cord, push and hold power button while plugging power cord in. Fans at full speed.

I'd start by getting rid of the following software responsible for these extensions.

Use the uninstaller provided with the Sophos software. You can uninstall CUDA via the preference pane. Be sure you remove the com.nvidia.CUDA extension which is located in the /System/Library/Extensions/ folder. Not sure if Fan Control has an uninstaller so you will have to do it manually:
Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS. Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term. Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default. You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder. Usually with the same name as the program or the developer. The item generally has a ".pkg" extension. Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications. Here is a selection:

Be sure to remove your two Login Items. Finally do this:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.

Could you specify the model of MacBook and the OS X it's running, please? Some of the advice or references vary along with the system, so this could be helpful to formulate a reply. I've never used a Guest User selection, but do have more than one User.
If the computer does not have an optical drive, you may be able to boot it into a recovery disk mode or something; in an attempt to see what is wrong and maybe fix it.

If you can't get it to shut down or restart when holding down the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons and you can't get it recognized in iTunes to restore it, the iPod may have suffered a hardware failure and will need to go to Apple for service. Someone else here may have additional suggestions, though.
There is no "fifth generation" iPod touch, by the way, just for the sake of clarity; not yet, anyway.

My MBP wouldn't start this morning, it was just stuck on white screen with grey logo and fan running. I replaced my magsafe power cord and resolved starting issue. Now I can't connect to internet and iTunes won't load??? Help?

This morning I was just getting the white screen with logo and status bar with fan running. I thought it was an issue with the power adapter so I went out and replaced it. MBP will start now, but won't connect to internet. I have full wi-fi signal. Also, when I try to launch iTunes, it just quits right away. Please help?

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

My macbook was stolen last month from my car. It would not power, it showed a white screen with folder with question mark in the middle? I don't have my serial number, is there a way to possibly track my computer?

My car was broken into in Uptown, MN last month and my Macbook was stolen along with my Wifi device. Although my computer would no longer power, it showed a white screen with a folder and question in the middle and then shut down. I hadn't had a chance to take it to have it checked, but is there a way to track my computer if I do not have the serial number? And if I purchase another computer is there a way to get the music that I purchased in iTunes back?

Regarding your music, yes you can download it again at no cost. Launch iTunes on the new computer, and sign in to your account using the same Apple ID you used previously. Go to the iTunes Store. On the right side under Quick Links select Purchased. Click on All Songs in the upper left.You'll see a list of the music you purchased from iTunes. In the lower right corner click the Download All link. Note that this may take a long time, particularly if you have a lot of songs. Use the fastest Internet connection that you can.
About the computer, unless tracking software was already installed on it and turned on there is no way to track it.
I would suggest changing passwords of any accounts that you have on the computer, such as email. If you have any credit card information stored on the computer, have them cancelled and replaced immediately.

this happened today suddenly while i was working on my iPad it kicked my out of the app that i was using then white screen with black apple logo came out, i thought it was an ordinary thing cause this happens all the time with me, but this time it refused to turn on! After the white screen with the black logo vanished i wad waiting for my lock screen but no, a black screen showed up just like that! And could tell it was black "lighten" screen i tried more than 10 times to do the home+power thing but it wont work, whats wrong with my ipad!

If the battery is completely drained it may take some time while on the charger before the iPad responds. Plug the iPad into the charger that came with it and plug that into a good wall outlet. Wait one hour. Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. If the iPad restarts let it continue to charge until the battery is 100%. If it doesn't start up make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support. They will examine your iPad and explain your options.

After several power outages, there is only a white screen, an apple in the center and a time strip after the strip is complete it turns it self off what is this problem

I have a 27in Mac desk top, its about a 2009, after several power outages and the computer pluged up and on now when turn it on it shows a white screen, apple in the center and a time strip toward the bottom when the time strip goes to the end of the cycle it shuts its self off.
The only thing we have tryed which was from a forum which was simular problem was, command-option-p-r, hold them down til the screen was back up, we try several times it did not work, please,please some-one help we use this computer for our job.

Also the trick you used, is known as resetting the PRAM. Not always the best of ideas for Macs older than 4 years. But I'm glad it worked for you. There is a battery which will eventually need replacing inside that would actually make that technique stop your Mac from working until replaced.
