White screen & beeping on start

My son's early 2008 15" Macbook pro shows only a white screen and beeping on pressing the power button. I am getting this info long distance. Does the beep configuration mean different things?. Is there a start up protocol for this?
Dave

The beep sequence does mean that there is a hardware error.
Have him check the RAM sticks and make sure that one hasn't jiggled loose.

  • White screen at computer start up

friend's computer has a white screen upon start up. We have tried at the rebooting steps in manual. screen is now white with a blinking folder icon with a question mark in the middle of it. What does this icon mean, and do you know of any other steps before we go to apple store?

It means your system cannot find a system folder to start from. Try these suggestions at below link.
    Good luck

  • White Screen when I start Facebook app

I just upgraded to IOS 6 on my IPAD2. When I start the FB app, I get a white screen and am unable to proceed further. I am able to access my Facebook account through the Safari browser. How do I fix my Facebook app?

Sorry I can't help but I'm I. The same boat.

  • Stuck on white screen on re-start . . .

Often when I restart my Mac Pro with OS10.8.4 the white screen that precedes the Apple logo stays on indefinitely. Often this happens after Apple Mail freezes along with everything else (mouse or keyboard don't work, etc.). I have to shut down the computer to get out of the lockup.
The only way I've found to stop this cut off startup behavior behavior is to unplug the cable to my display and plug it in again. My display is an NEC LCD 3090WQXi. After plugging the display in again, starting up proceeds to the Apple logo in about a second or two and continues normal booting.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

Run Disk Utility from the Recovery HD menu. Select the Macintosh HD volume in the list, then click on the Mount icon in the toolbar. If you still cannot mount the volume, then you will need to try reinstalling OS X:
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list.  Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • I can access my music library, but not the Itunes store. Just getting a white screen. It starts to connect but just stops. Any suggestions?

I can access my music library, but Itunes Store is not opening. I am just getting a white screen. Any suggestions?

    Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
If that didn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
You will have to re enter the Wi-Fi password.
If that doesn't help, try here >  iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
No data is lost due to a reset.

  • My MacBook powes up , white screen chimes then starts to beep beep beep ! Please help

MacBook powers up then chimes and the beeps three times then stops then three times

Beeps are an indication the RAM (memory) is failing or has failed and needs replacing.

  • White screen, beeps twice. Keeps telling me it's in recovery mode and I need to restore it but when I try it tells me it's in recovery mode.

I've reset it and all it does is beep twice and the screen stays white. When I restore it it comes up telling me it's in recovery mode and that I need to restore it so I do and the same message pops up. I'm seriously frustrated. I have nothing but problems with all of my mac products and I'm sick of it!

You cannot.  If it is in recovery mode, the data is already gone.
Did you fail to make sure everything was on your computer before updating?

  • No way to get this white screen away at start up.

LS even with a save start hang at a grey screen with an apple logo. any ideas?

Ok, so two differents hardwares same problem.
Very Very strange. So it should be software related.
I really hope you got the software directly from Apple.
Lion now have a recovery partition. Boot while holding the ALTernate key, choose the Recovery HD partition.
There will be a nice widow to help you recover from that very strange problem.

  • Only white screen visible upon start up - normal hard drive sound.

I tried to connect to a montor with a DVI connector but it's not getting a signal. Is there a quick fix? (School project today!!)

    it's not getting a signal.

... must list your display, or it cannot automatically set the resolution and draw a picture on it.
If your MacBook uses Mini DisplayPort, the most common issue is that the plug is not completely inserted in the jack. You must push the plug until essentially ALL of the metal part disappears inside the jack.

  • Can't get past the white screen at start up

I can not get past the white screen when it starts up. It will chime and then stay at the white screen. I have replaced the hard drive, memory, battery. I have reset the PRAM and the SMC.

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.

  • Mac book pro start up, white screen pops up and it don't process any further! Can anyone help?

When my laptop was updating the software it was stuck on installing the updates. I held the power button then turned the laptop back on! It makes the on sound but stay on the white screen! Can anyone help?

    Hey Antonioaok,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. If you are getting the white screen when you start up, there are a few steps that can be done. The first one would be resetting your NVRAM
    About NVRAM and PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
The next step, if it does not boot to your operating system would be to attempt to boot into safe mode. These steps are also based on the fact that your profile states you are running Snow Leopard.
Mac OS X 10.6: Starting up in safe mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH6455
To start up in safe mode:
Shut down your computer and wait 10 seconds.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key.
You should press the Shift key as soon as possible after you hear the startup tone, but not before.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator (spinning gear).
To leave safe mode, restart the computer normally without holding down any keys during startup.
If after that, you were still not able to get into your operating system, the last step would be trying to reinstall the operating system.

  • Why do i get a white screen in itunes 11 on my iMac?

When I try to access the iTunes store, I get a blank white screen. Just started. Didn't change anything that I'm aware of. Running iTunes 11.1.1.....

Without seeing exactly what you have, troubleshooting is difficult.
You could try here iBooks Author: About HTML widget creation for more guidance. I became unstuck once when I made some HTML in Dreamweaver, but forgot to set the Doctype as the HTML5 one.

  • IMac wont boot up, only white screen, advice needed.

    Hi,
my 2008 iMac 24" got the spinning beach ball, it was spinning for 5 minutes or more, so I held down the power button and did a force quit, now when I turn on the machine I hear the chime , but I only get a blank white screen, Ive tried starting up with the Shift key pressed, also tried starting up with Command + V pressed and Option + Command + P + R keys pressed, but still the white screen, can somebody suggest something I can do to resolve this....thanks

Can you start the Mac from the Install DVD? If you can, go to Disk Utility in the Utilities Menu and check if the HDD shows in the left column. If it is not there it is damaged in some fashion. If the iMac is under warranty call Apple Care and arrange for warranty repair or replacement (Apple's choice.)

  • Red green blue white screen

Opened up the PB from sleep yesterday and was greeted with a blue, then red, then green, then white screen. Fan started up but no chimes. No icons or other symbols on screen. Tried to restart and force shutdown with no improvement. Each time I restarted, the same blue, red, green, white cycle.
Had no apps open when PB put to sleep prior to this problem.
    Help!

I just got a g4 15 in from ebay, worked fine yeasterday and today. This evening it went red, green, blue then white. I read the posts and thought great bad logic board. I squeezed the display at the edges (I had a 5300 cs that did a simlar thing) and the screen came back on. Anyone else have any luck with this?
