White screen Grey Lines

Well its my first time doing this so forgive me if I make little sense. I have a compaq presario V6500 and its currently coming upto 4 years old in january. Ever so often my screen goes completely white with vertical grey lines, all the power lights go off and there is absolutely nothing I can do to reset it, once this happens when I try to reboot the laptop it just dies out. It attempts to turn on, the power light comes on, I think i can hear the fan but then it gives up again. I have replaced the charger, also the battery. There is definatly no water damage. Other than this, Ive never had any issues with my laptop. If anyone has any idea's or inklin as to what it could be I would be very grateful. I am reluctant to take it into someone because I think I might get ripped off, also with it being four years old I am also reluctant to do any major hardware replacing, might as well just buy a new one if thats the case. Thank you

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync or delete the problem songs and resync/redownloa them
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Display has white and grey lines and blocks crisscrossing it and touch functions are not working properly on half the screen.

I dropped my iPhone 5S and it landed flat on it's face (it was in a protective case).  Since then my touch screen display is not working properly. I have white and grey lines and/or blocks crisscrossing the screen both horizontally and vertically.  Screen responds to touch in odd random ways, but rarely does what I am trying to do.  Can't call or receive calls because can't dial or answer phone via swipe. Can't text or read incoming texts. All functions seem to be working except that I can't access them because the touch screen is acting up. If I move the phone around it randomly accesses different apps or functions, but I have no control over them once the appear on the screen.  Touching screen just causes phone to randomly choose something else to open.  What have I damaged?

We cannot possibly tell. Obviously some hardware inside. Take it in to an Apple Store. They will offer you the opportunity to swap the phone for $269 in the US. Prices vary by country.

  • I have white and grey line on my ipad it not working please help

my daughter was using her Ipad and it stop working white and grey line are on it now and she cannot use it at all please help

Try resetting the device. Hold down the sleep and home buttons, past when you see the red power down slider and until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and see if that helps.
If not and if it's still under warranty you may want to make an appointment at your local apple store and have them take a look at it.

One step has you doing a disk repair using Disk Utility. If you don't have any OS X DVD's to boot from, perhaps you have an external bootable backup to startup and run Disk Utlity.

Have you tried connecting the device to iTunes in recovery mode and restoring it? See this article for instructions on getting your iPod into recovery mode.

  • IPod Touch screen has gone white with grey lines

I have had my iPod Touch for a year and a half, so unfortunately it is out of warranty. About two months ago it started behaving strangely. Every other time I turned it on there would be a white screen which after a few seconds would get slightly darker with vertical grey lines. The screen was still responsive, and you could hear clicking. Turning the iPod off and back on would resolve the problem and the screen would reappear with no problems at all.
Unfortunately this got worse. Now I am unable to turn the iPod on without getting the white screen with grey lines. The iPod is still responsive. I can plug it into itunes and browse it normally.
I've reset the iPod many times and completely reset it through iTunes with no luck.
Any suggestions? Is this a hardware fault and is it possible to resolve? Or is there something else I can try? Any help would be very appreciated.

My old Touch 2G has the same issue. The Apple Store Genius couldn't tell what's the problem. However, I observed that the white grey striped display appears almost every time (or at least far more often) when the iPod lays on a ground. It is fixed by tilting it 90°, so that the dock connector is pointing to the ground.
And sometimes the density of stripes changes by pressing home (no, I don't mean switching from spotlight to first home screen page, because this happens in lock screen, when home button does nothing) or pulling out the dock cable. So I think it's something near the dock connector and home button. Hardware fail, maybe the not so fitting dock cable in the rounded dock connector is the issue.

  • White Screen, Grey Folder with Question Mark and no USB

    Hello
I have a iMac, that is in a classroom of similar machines, they are running os v 10.4.6 (ish).
The mac in question had been reported with a fault so i went along to check it and this was a new fault for me.
When the mac boots, it bongs the hdd starts up and then a black white screen appears after a few minutes this changes to a white screen with a flashing grey folder with a question mark.
now reading on the forums, internet etc. i have found that maybe i should boot to disk. tried this but not disk activity.
next i read to boot into verbose mode at which point i find that the USB ports dont seem to be running so i can use a keyboard.
Anyone any ideas how i can troubleshoot this problem or why the problem occurred in the first place?
    Thanks for any help offered.

This error indicates either that the internal HD has physical problems, or there is corruption on the drive (a failing directory or corrupt system files). You should boot from the Mac's original installation disk, run Disk Utility from the Utilities menu and do Repair Disk on the internal drive. If this fails to recover the drive, you may have to reinstall the system.

  • White screen, grey apple, spinning icon, and that's it.

Recently a friend of mine installed Tiger and Ilife '06 on my 12in. powerbook. Shortly thereafter, its performance became quite sluggish and often required force quitting programs which were trapped in spinning wheel mode. Just today, I had to force quit several programs. When I attempted to restart, I got a white screen with grey apple and the spinning icon. I tried restarting several times but that's all I get. I reset the PRAM as the Apple website suggested but that was fruitless. Any ideas on what the problem is before I take it in for expensive diagnosis and repair? Thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
First, how much memory do you have? When you click on the blue apple and choose about this mac, what's it say? While the Tiger specs say 256mb minimum, that only turns the lights on - you really want at least 512mb, and some would suggest even more is better. Also, how much empty disk space do you have? You want at least 10% of the total capacity to remain available for system usage.
Ensuring your disk permissions are in order and there's not a disk issue is a good suggestion.
I might run the Apple hardware test, just to ensure there's not something else, coincidentally, going on with your system. Insert the OS X DVD that came with your system, which will say "AHT Version x.x" in small print on the DVD, and reboot holding the option key down. Choose Apple hardware test and follow directions. Most likely this will not find any issues, which is good.
If memory and disk space is not an issue, and repairing permissions didn't change anything, not knowing how your friend updated you to 10.4.7, I'd download and install the combo update from http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosxupdate1047comboppc.html. If your friend used the software update function, sometimes the updates don't apply just exactly right.

  • My Mac suddenly has white screen and lines through it

My sons Macbook Air has a white screen this morning when he turned it on with colored lines through it.  What does this mean?  Why did it happen? How can we get it fixed?  Please someone help!

    Hey bwzdragon,
If your iPad will not start up completely, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on - Apple Support
    Specifically -
If your device gets stuck during startup
When starting up, you might see the Apple logo or a red or blue screen for a long time, or your device might restart again. Try these steps:
Make sure that you have iTunes 12 or later on your computer.
Put your device in recovery mode.
When you get the option to restore or update, select Update. This will reinstall iOS without erasing your data.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Happy computing,

  • White screen & gray lines

my little sister dropped my ipod & my ipod screen immediately turned white & had gray lines across it. hat can i do?

It's likely a hardware issue and you need to contact Apple for a non-warranty replacement.  If there is no sign of abuse, they replace it with a refurbished unit.  The fixed-price for non-warranty replacements can be found here.
However, there are some things that you can try:
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • White screen with line down the middle?

My Ipod hit the floor and now all I can see is a white screen with a line down the middle. Do I need to send it in for repair or is there something else I can do to get the screen to work? The music still plays however.

Sounds like a hardware problem. I am not sure if you want to send it to Apple since they are likely to want to charge you almost the replacement cost of the iPod, that is if they will look at it at all.
You might try some of the online iPod repair places. Many are pretty affordable.

  • White screen/black lines

I was updating my library and after I disconnected it all I get now is the white screen with black lines. If i keep pressing buttons I can get it to kind of play, but it sounds like something internally is not right.
    Any suggestions?

UPDATE: It started working fine Monday morning. Then wasn't working this morning, but is working now.
Also, I can play music if I can navigate correctly without the screen. The white screen with blurred lines just makes it hard.
