White screen in ichat sharing

I am on 10.7.5 and whenever I share my screen with someone else all they see is a white screen. When I share their screen I see everything fine. What is the problem?

Hi,
This seems to be an issue between iChat amd Messages involving the update to Apple Remote Desktop.
Apple Remote Desktop is the "engine" behind iChat's and Messages' Screen Sharing.
(It is also involved in Remote Management or Screen Sharing as listed in the Sharing section of the System Preferences {it cannot be both at the same time}).
The "fix" seems to be to alter one ends display resolution to "match" the other end.
The issues was first documented before the date of the Apple Remote Desktop Update version 3.6.1 but it is unclear if this fixes the issue which starts with version 3.6
Some people have used Time Machine to backstep the Apple Remote Desktop folder to pre 3.6

• IChat Screen Sharing: Audio works but video is a white screen.

I am having a problem using iChat screen sharing with a specific computer. We are both running OS 10.7.4. I have a Mac Book Pro (fall 2011) and he has a iMac one to two years old. We have tried contacting apple support but no luck yet. We tried setting up a test user to see if the problem was user specific but encountered the same problem. Again, video and text chat work fine. He can share my screen with no issues. Only when I ask to share his screen do I get a blank white screen. Audio works and I can manipulate his curser but all I have is a white screen. I have tried changing the resolution on his iMac but this has not helped. Also we are both using Google Talk as the chat server.

Hi,
Historically iChat Updates came in OS updates.
Not every OS update had an iChat update but that was the way they were delivered.
Only twice during the lifetime of iChat 3 have there ever been standalone Updates outside of this.
Most Updates are now through the App Store but Software Update can still be used (I have mine set on Daily despite Apple's Updates normally coming on Tuesdays)
One person stated he thought there had been a change with OS 10.8.1 saying the Build number of Messages had changed.
In my experience it has not and when Apple do update something the build Number and Version number change.
It is widely know that Apple send Developers and others advance copies of the OS to try out.

Hi,
You can't.
Messages - the replacement for iChat in Mountain Lion and beyond will do Screen Sharing but only to the accounts it did in iChat 5 and 6 (actually it includes iChat 4 as well)
That is to say in earlier version of iChat you could login to AIM and Jabber servers as well as enabling the Bonjour option to chat on your LAN.
All these will do Video and Audio only chats which in turn means they will Screen Share.
At iChat 6 an Yahoo option was added but it can only Text chat (it can't even send Files or Pics)
This means only the Internet able accounts that login in to AIM or to a Jabber server can Video and therefore Screen Share.
The iMessages account will Invoke FaceTime if you use the Video icon during text chat. (I.e. it is not Video inside the app like the AIM or Jabber accounts can do)
NOTE.
AIM includes Apple Issued Apple ID as Valid AIM Screen Names.
Google Mail ID s can be used and Google Talk IDs with Messages as they run a Jabber server.
Facebook allow you to create a Chat ID (Facebook Chat ID) which is also a Jabber server.

• My thumbnails look fine then when opening or sharing the come blank with either a white screen or a black screen. Not every photo but the majority. This didn't happen until this late rest update to my iOS. Anyone know how to fix this??

I an having problems with my pictures. Using latest iOS update and now not all my pictures are showing up correctly. The thumbnails are fine but when I open them or share them they are either a black screen or a white screen. What is going on? Anyone else having this problem?

Sorry I am 70 and not very computer literate. Please explain in simpler terms. Perhaps I should have said Apple update for my iMac. It did however include an iphoto update. My imac is 3 years old, I also have an ipad 2 and iPhone and both received iOS 7 updates around the same time.

• Mid-2010 Macbook Pro White Screen of Death?

Hi all,
I have a Mid- 2010 Macbook Pro, running 10.8.2 that, when booting, sounds the Startup Chime but no Apple logo appears, just a white screen. I'm in IT so I've done several things, but nothing has worked and I couldn't find a previous discussion that was similar to mine.
Here's what I've done so far:
- Changed hard drives
- reseated RAM
- Unplugged Battery
- Reset the PRAM
- Tried to boot from CD using CTRL- C
- Tried Recovery boot using CTRL- R
Anything else I could try? I keep thinking it may have something to do with the Time Change, but that seems a little weird to me if that's the cause. It worked fine late last night and then it did this in the morning (after the time change).
Thanks for any help you can give!

Hi sanjampet,
Tried the SMC reset, safe boot, CD boot, and Recovery boot all with no luck. Not sure why it's going on, but it's looking more and more like a hardware issue to me. It's a white screen (instead of a grey screen), so I'm worried that it's something with it. I'm going to try and see if I can remote into it using Screen Sharing to see if it's something with the display.
My wife used it last and she told me that it was slow on the internet with the mouse freezing up, so she held down the power to turn it off then it came up with the white screen which hasn't come back on since. I'm using an 3rd party SSD hard drive and replaced it with another SATA hard drive, but it didn't help.
Thanks,
JN

• Mac Pro White Screen Problems

My mac runs 10.7.5
I bought new ram last weekend from Mr. Memory .com (kingston) 2xgb sticks. Initially I insrted them wrong, putting one stick on the different risers as i have never done it before and thought that's what it meant by matched pairs, it only showed up 1x2gb sticks on the scan and after i contacted them and found the right installation method I then had every running properly, along with 2gig more that I had previous making a total of 6gb. I then started to worry that trying the inital wrong combination might have had an adverse affect on my computer as I notcied an article saying that wrong placement of ram could do.. but it was running super fast for the first time in ages and I was happy..
However, last night I left my computer on as I was downloading something and when i came back and pressed the spacebar to stop the screensaver, the screensaver paused and the beachball started spinning.. and spinning etc. The only option was to turn off the computer via the power button. On trying to turn the computer back on , after showing the apple logo and the spinning gear it went to a white screen but went no further.
I have Applejack installed so I started it using cmd+s and did an auto routine. I can't quite remember what but it seemed to stall on something that it hadn't previously. No joy.. Next, having looked in this forum and others I first tried a PRAM reset, and then a NVRAM reset (how do you know if this one works btw?) but still nothing. I then tried booting in Safe mode.. this worked. I looked around and couldn't see anything wrong but after restart no joy still..
Having booted the computer in safe mode I thought i'd test the ram using Tech Tool Pro 5 (althought a dialogue popped up saying it hadn't been tested on 10.7.5 yet...). All RAM passed the test. After that I tried testing the video memory - as soon as I did so Tech Tool quit unexpectedlly. Now, I have seen previous postings citing the video card as the issue - but as it said that tech tool hasn't been tested on 10.7.5 i don't know if this is a conincidence or not. I have saved the report if anyone thinks it would be of help, i'll post here. My graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256 MB.
I then decided to try a diagnostics test by using cmd+d but it wouldn't work - just going to the white screen each time and hagning once more. And yes I did try the keyboard in another USB port.
I have since noticed, and i'm not sure at what step it started doing this after, that just before the Apple logo appears at startup a grey folder with a question mark appears super briefly before.
So.. what can I do?

Hi,
Tech Tool only said the version I run hadn't been tested, but as the other suite of tests work and the only run that makes it crash is the 'video memory' test I thought that maybe this is the issue?
Is there anyway I can tell for sure - anything I can download that tests the card etc? The fact that I'm in Safe mode now looking at my monitor doesn't necessarily mean my video card is alright does it?
The issue that remains is the one descirbed in my original post bar the startup disc issue that was put there from me resetting the PRAM right? Is there anyway to check if the NVRAM has been reset? I did follow the instructions I found, turning the compuer off and holding the power button for 5 seconds, but as there's no cue that it has worked i'm just wondering..

• After boot camp setup, white screen

Hello boys and girls.
So finally I decided I'd benefit from a bootcamp setup with Windows 7.
My setup is a MBP 15" late 2011 running OS X 10.8.5. 240Gb SSD in main hard drive slot with some alternative version of OptiBay, in other words I exchanged my DVD for another hard drive (the original 500Gb SATA).
The thought is to run OS X from the SSD and bootcamp on a 100Gb partition on the SATA disc. The remaining 400Gb should be shared between the two systems so I guess ntfs is the file system to go? Anyways, so far so good..
I used bootcamp to download the required software onto an external USB drive and chose to restart my computer, boot camp stated something about changing boot order and tbh I didn't pay all that much attention, just hammered "OK".
Mac reboots with a blank white screen, nothing happens. Doesn't matter if I unplug USB-drive or USB-DVD, still same wierd error. Googled it and tried a PRAM(correct me if I'm wrong) -reset. OS X is now booting up properly again but now I'm back to square one...
Perhaps I should also mention that ever since my MBP was brand new it have been freezing randomly a couple of times per month, wheel just starts spinning and I have to restart it using power button long press. Some times when it boots up, it has a folder with a questionmark in it, blinking. That too, seems very random and came from the store..
Maybe that's not the same problem and if so, this is about trying to figure out what makes boot camp screw up boot..
Thanks in advance!
Simon.

I do had the same issue with my build in iSight camera, but it did not seem to be related to the boot camp partition
(macbook pro, late 2007 model, OSX 10.4.11 Tiger, BootCamp Partition with XP).
The camera stopped working ramdomly, as mentioned above, not detected by any software or system profiler. The solution was always rebooting, sometimes twice.
When it finally completely stopped working a few days ago I've tried:
- safe reboot
- resetting the PRAM
- resetting the SMC
- rebooting several times
none of it worked. I've tried the camera in BootCamp Windows, but it did not detect it either.
It seems to be a common problem, as I found issues in several forums but unfortunately no solution.
Today I've called apple support, they said it might be a contact problem or a defect iSight.
I wish I had better news. Anyone else with a mor helpful suggestion?

• 4s picture issues - no photo just white screen

Recently (perhaps since the iOS 7 update), when my husband takes pictures with his 4s, he can't actually get the pictures. Often the thumbnail of the picture he took will show in the camera roll, but when he clicks on it to look at it, there is just a blank white screen instead of the picture. This is an intermittent problem, but frequently enough that it is frustrating and certianly not how the camera should work - he took 10-12 pictures today and 6 of them don't show correctly.
Anyone else encouter this? Any fixes to the problem? I did a quick search and didn't come across anything.
Thanks!

I do not understand why Apple is not addressing this issue. I just deleted 20 photos that were really difficult to capture. Had I known about your method of editing to save them, it would have made my day. This is obviously a big problem which needs resolving. Thank you for sharing your insight. I tried it on another photo I took randomly and it worked. I'm not very impressed with the lack of service from Apple, lately.

• Mac hangs at white screen with spinning with loading wheel while shutting down.

I've had a problem with my computer recently that really bugs me, because I been needing to install os x updates, but when i try to shut my computer down, it hangs at a white screen with the grey loading wheel forever until I forcibly shut it down. This has been bugging me a lot, and when I try other peoples' solutions, (e.g. resetting NVRAM, uninstalling apps), I can't figure out what apps to uninstall, and resetting the NVRAM is no luck. I have a console log of the shutdown here:

Thanks.

Select the icon of the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) in a Finder window and open the Info window. In the Sharing & Permissions section, what is shown under Name and Privilege?

• Why do my photos appear as a white screen when I click to view them on my iPhone ?

When I click on a photo in my photo stream to view it it pops up as a white screen and I cannot see the photo. You can see each photo exists in the roll/stream but once you click to enlarge the picture it's a white screen. Any suggestions? I have a 4s iPhone.

This went wrong here:
I went back and found the photos in the back up machine (25000) and dumped them on the iPhoto icon.
Never import one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the link to the original photo.
I would suggest that you restore that library from Time Machine again, and then try repair it.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

• AIR for Android - see only white screen

I want deploy my AIR application on Android device (created by Flash Builder) - but I see only white screen on Android-device.
In development environment - I install Flex 4.6 with upgrade it to AIR 3.7
In Android I install current AIR envirenment fom Google Play
I create this HelloWord minimal application:
Android3.mxml:

<s:WindowedApplication xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx" width="369" height="90">
<fx:Script>

protected function button1_clickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void
txt1.text="OK"

</fx:Script>
<fx:Declarations>

</fx:Declarations>
<s:Button x="200" y="30" label="GO" click="button1_clickHandler(event)"/>
<s:TextInput x="34" y="30" width="158" id="txt1"/>
</s:WindowedApplication>
Android3-app.xml:

<application xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/3.1">

<filename>Android3</filename>

<versionNumber>1.0.0</versionNumber>
<initialWindow>

[This value will be overwritten by Flash Builder in the output app.xml]

</initialWindow>
</application>
This HelloWord application working perfectly on Windows and Linux environment
Then I packet APK-packet:
adt -package -target apk -storetype pkcs12 -keystore CERTIFICATE.p12 Android3.apk Android3-app.xml Android3.swf
I show warning message:
Warning: Application has not specifiad its permission requirements in application.xml
NOTE:The AIR SDK no longer support packaging android application for use with the shared Runtime
The application has been packaged with a capture Runtime
But when I start my HelloWord-application on Android-device - I see only white screen.
Whats wrong?

Okay. I've found an answer:
yes, you can and have to add these icons via the descriptor file, since flash wont let you. But before you do that, go into the "Air publish" settings in flash. Here, right on page 1, there is the "include files" section. Add your icon pngs there. Hit OK and exit these settings. Now open the descriptor with an editor outside of flash and write in the files like I posted above. Close. Save. Make it write protected. No go to flash and publish.

• N97 White Screen .. Phone wont boot at all ... Stu...

Hello all,
So I have finally stumbled upon the White Screen of Death ... Really sad that it happened but I still have hope that it may work. THe phone does not boot up and its stuck on the Nokia logo
[Long read]
It happened one before a day and I managed to find a helpful topic
/discussions/board/message?board.id=smartphones&thread.id=141381
It had everything regarding reset codes and whatnot, but the really helpful message was from grschinon .. ( he seems to know what hes doing ) .. for he shared an amazing technique of holding the green and red buttons while booting up the phone, and it worked !!
But yesterday, it happened again .. The screen wont light up and the keylock was stuck, so I just removed the battery ... I turned it on while assuming that the red/green button technique will work, but it didnt
I tried it over and over again ( been trying for half a day actually ) .. but with no avail, it didnt work ..
I tried connecting it through usb, with the wall charger, different combinations of buttons ... meh none worked
Its really annoying that half of my friends keep saying, THIS is why you get a blackberry .. and similar stuff .. My previous phones are all Nokia and this is just a huge dissapointment .. the N95 is 500000 times better than the N97 in stability and etc ... I was anxiously waiting for v2.0 ... now my n97 is dead
[/Long read]
I understand that there is a solution that will FORMAT the whole phone, but I dont want that, there are lots of pictures on my internal memorycard (32gb one) and 30+ applications (if not more) .. I seriously dont want to lose all of those ..
So do you know any other way that I can fix the problem ?? Is there a soft reset combination that i can use rather than the hard reset one??
Please advise, your comments are really appreciated,
Kind Regards,
Z

These are the solutions that i've colected over the internet:
I hope it help's you!
N97 White Screen .. Phone wont boot at all ... Stuck at Nokia logo
They instructed me to turn on the phone pressing the green, red and camera button at the same time as I pressed the power button.
It worked and the phone started.
I didn't need to format my phone.
Had the same problem with my White N97 (not that the colour probably makes a difference).
Was using the Facebook App on the main screen as a widget, tried to start it up by touching it - it seemed to not start even after waiting or trying multiple times.
So i thought to myself, "I'll just reboot my phone, that should fix it."
BAD IDEA.
Got stuck on the White Screen with the Blue "NOKIA" on it, so i thought...i'll wait and see what happens.
Nothing...for hours.
So i pulled the battery and put it back in again....powered on....same thing..."NOKIA"...and nothing else.
Repeated this about....10 times, getting more and more nervous that i had turned my $950AU phone that i had boasted to my friends that is better than their iphones....into a useless brick.
So, i turned to Google looking for answers...
Someone said they left the battery out of the phone until it went flat and had some success.
I found something about other users having a similar issue with other software (Garmin GPS software), and also the "Mail for Exchange" application.
They mentioned something about the only way to get it working again was to hard reset the phone to stop the apps from going online...
I REALLY didnt want to do a hard reset, as i had a bunch of apps and data that i DID NOT want to lose or spend like 3-4hours re-installing.
SO...I got thinking...how can i stop my apps from trying to go online without a hard reset.
So this is what i tried - and it worked!
1- Power off phone (if power button responds)
2- Pull out battery.
3- Remove memory card (if you have one)
4- Remove SIM card.
5- To make sure phone has no residule power hold down power button without any of the above inserted.
6- Re-insert battery only (without SIM card or Memory Card)
7- Cross your fingers and toes. (optional...but if it helps what the hell.)
8- Power on phone.
9- IF the phone prompts you to go online in any way Select NO. (or if it says do you want to activate Offline mode say YES)
10- Press Options key when you get to the home screen and select "Content to offline mode"
11- Make sure "Offline" is displayed in top left corner near where the signal bar usually is. ( if it doesnt say "Offline" press the power button briefly, and select "Offline" (should be underneath the "Pager" profile)
12- Once you have made sure your phone and applications are in offline mode - Power off phone using Power button.
13- Remove battery
14- Again to make sure phone has no residule power hold down power button without any battery or cards inserted.
15- Re-Insert SIM card, Memory card and Battery.
16- Power on Phone.
At this point the phone should start up as per normal, I knew it was working straight away for me because my SIM card prompted me for a pin number. (which happens normally for me when I turn on my phone)
After the phone is ready, i just put my phone back into online mode by selecting my "general" profile, and put my content back online.
Please note: This is what worked for me. Results and Mileage may vary.
It seems the issue is that the phone startup is being held up or stopped due to Programs or Applications tring to go online.
For me I suspect it could have been the Facebook App due to the problems i had before powering off my phone the first time.
I am going to put my Content to offline mode if I need to reboot my phone again, at least until nokia pull up their socks and release a fix for this.
Side note: my N97 is also running Version 11 Firmware. ( not that it may make a difference)
Good luck to all with same problem, hope this works for you too.
Had the same problem but I just removed the extra memorycard and formatted it on my computer before I put it back...
after a few days trying without micro sd inserted
the result is, n97 still stuck in white screen nokia logo
it happend always if i turn off my phone without sign off the facebook app widggetz..
here is how to crash your phone
put facebook widgetz on nokia standby screeen
and then put it online mode
klik the facebook app
just do anything in your facebook for check it already connected
klik end key
now turn off your phone without sign out the Facebook
turn on again
and boom your phone will stuck on nokia white screen logo
and it will never boot forever..
sometime when you take off the batery and reinserted again it can boot normaly but the percentage is 20% only..
soo if your n97 can boot normaly after FB "accident" that mean you lucky and i sugest you unistall your FB ASAP before n97 stuck again on white screen nokia logo..
is anyone have problem like mee??
i like to hear another opinion...
i think nokia already knew this problem, that way when you check ovi and your phone set to nokia n97 the facebook app is missing...
my firmware is v11 already

• 10.9 White Screen

I typically do not logout of my Mac Mini, just select the "Login Window" option from the Switch user drop down. About once a week after upgrading to 10.9 (mavericks) when I come back and wake up my mac I get a completely blank white screen instead of the login screen.
I have tried various key combinations, etc to get it to respond, but my only option is to hold the Power button to crash the operating system. It then reboots OK and I am able to login and continue.
Most times when I am not logged in, only Boinc 7.0.65 is running (Einsteing and Seti) are left running, altho occassionally I leave Chrome running as well. I have not found any pattern to when it hangs and when it does not, altho it frequently happens when I return to my mac after supper.
Does the mac save a crash dump that i could submit to apple?
I can't find anyting in the Console after reboot, but I really have no idea what I am looking for.
Any suggestions of what to do to diagnose this problem?

Had *TWO* hangs today. Can anyone help with this??

• White Screen on h.264 Export

Can someone pls help me. Using Mac os x downloading on Vuze movies. Just download trailer
H.Potter last trailer part 1 . Watched okay in QuickTime. When Sharing to Itunes Library ( for streaming to Apple TV) video is blank screen but with Audio. How to fix BLANK SCREEN ? Its really weird because QT plays the video as well as VLC. To export to Itunes I am using QuickTime /Share / Itunes and works fine for several movies but for this last one (trailer Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1) Blank(White) Screen with audio. Pls help me.

I've got a similar issue. Encode to H.264 (mp4) with Nero Recode 2 and get white screen with audio. However, it works fine with a small video clip.
Here's what happen. I had the video files (VOBs) and had Nero do a conversion from DVD to Nero Digital. My first run, I just selected 3 minutes of video and ran with the default settings for Portable - AVC video. Things ran fine and I could play in iTunes 6 and Quicktime 7. Next I ran the whole movie through Nero. Then the resulting video wouldn't play correctly in Nero Showtime or Quicktime or iTunes. So I'm guessing its codec related, but I don't have 3ivx installed, I have ffdshow and AutoGK which has Xvid codec tools in it
Any known incompatibilities with Xvid or ffdshow and Quicktime playback?
Thanks in advance,

• White screen with flash video

In Dreamweaver 4, I get a white screen after adding Flash Video to my webpage. All browsers show white screen in Preview, too.

Flash (if you get it to work) isn't supported by the world's most popular web devices: iPhone, iPad, iTouch, Android and others... You'll reach a much wider audience if you convert your video to MP4 and use an HTML5 player.

Or, upload your native video to YouTube or Vimeo video sharing sites. Let them convert it & carry the bandwidth for you. Then, copy & paste their embed code into your HTML pages.
