White screen/ no back light
Hi people
heres the brief history of my problem.
1. i had a new HD installed 2 years ago. 60gb (dont know if this info is important)
2. i had "the back light" problem for 16 months now. usually when i could find the sweet spot it would work and i just didnt touch it.
3. i DID drop the laptop like 2 months ago and the hinge/Screen is broken and is like a raggedy anne doll. but once again if i can angle it, it works and the back light comes on. BUT I HAVE BEEN PRESSING THE LEFT WRIST AREA; OR TORQUING THE LAPTOP HEAVILY TO GET THE LIGHT TO COME ON: BENDING FROM OPPOSITE CORNERS.
4. last night the cursor froze. i restarted with the PMU thing. didnt work, screen was black. i let it sit for an hour and then it did start up. i was able to get the light etc. hours later cursor froze again and now its very hard to find the light and when i do get it lit, its just an all white screen. the volume buttons work etc. as if it did start up, just that i cant see anything and no cursor, but i suppose it didnt start up.
ive been perusing the board for some time now. i cant start up with the utility disk. shift doesnt work, etc. and of course its dark sometimes so i cant even see whats happening, but nonetheless im pretty sure its still all white.
questions: is the blackness still a problem with the backlight hinge problem, or is not being able to find the lighted sweet spot also not in connection with the whole problem of not starting? is this the logic board? i really dont know what that means. is taking out the extra RAM i added when i got it in 2005 really going to possibly help anything?
im headed back to USA in two weeks to buy a macbook so i also wonder if all the torquing i was doing to get the screen lit could hurt the HD. is it worth it to save the HD from it and use it as an Ex HD,(so my files are saved) or does the problem ive explained relate to it and its probably the problem. i guess i dont want to buy the case to make it an Ex HD only to find out its shot. How durable are they etc? compared to the logic board etc... can i still boot up from my other ex HD now with this problem?
living in foreign country, during xmas, alone and now with no connection to home, or movies ... very sad
thanks
Hey mike,
2. i had "the back light" problem for 16 months now. usually when i could find the sweet spot it would work and i just didnt touch it.
That sounds like an inverter cable problem. It runs up the right side and can break usually near the hinge point.
3. i DID drop the laptop like 2 months ago
Yes they don't like that.
and the hinge/Screen is broken and is like a raggedy anne doll. but once again if i can angle it, it works and the back light comes on.
Right that would exacerbate your inverter cable problem.
BUT I HAVE BEEN PRESSING THE LEFT WRIST AREA; OR TORQUING THE LAPTOP HEAVILY TO GET THE LIGHT TO COME ON: BENDING FROM OPPOSITE CORNERS.
Ohh don't do that. The actual area is under the option - Apple keys that's where the graphics chip is located and it's on the bottom of the logic board. Put pressure there from underneath.
What is underneath "THE LEFT WRIST AREA" is your hard drive. There was a case here a while back when a poster was putting excessive pressure there, heard a grinding noise and their hard drive was dead from that point on.
4. last night the cursor froze... its just an all white screen.
So possibly hard drive is dead. Try starting it up in target mode. If it will do that then there's still a connection. If it can be seen by another Mac via FireWire then it's still OK.
Oh and Merry Christmas Mike.

Thanks for your reply! I must apologise for the quality of my post. I inadvertently posted it before it was corrected.
I am very disappointed with this iMac. It is only 18 months old and this will be the third visit to the workshop. I had expected more from Apple and from their repair agents. Luckily I have AppleCare. -

How do I fix login fail as it goes from flip-screen to white-screen then back to login page?
When I login to OS X 10.8.2 on my late 2009 iMac (8GB of RAM) with Parallels 8 running Win7 Full, the window flips over to my desktop background to commence the login process, then, flips back to a white screen and then back again to the login page. All of this happens at once in a total of 3-4 seconds. I have run the disk utility to fix permissions and verify the disk and all is well except, that the login problem continues and I am unable to login at all. Any ideas before a full wipe and restore?
- Have you tried resetting the iPod.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Then connect to computer and if it shows in iTunes restore.
- If screen is still on, let the battery fully drain. Then charge for an hour and try the reset and retore again. -

Slate 21 Pro screen back light on when sleeping
Hi James_caI found out a couple of days ago that our service inventory had not yet been updated with the new Scalar FW revision. I suspect that at some time you will experience the same issue...just a matter of when. I'm sorry if I was not clear in my earlier instruction. I should know more tomorrow about when our service inventory will be ready. Rest assured that if you experience the issue again, the next replacement will be correct. Again, my apology for not communicating clearly.
I have Slate 21 Pro. It is awsome all in one desktop with Android system. However it has the problem with sleep mode. Say I press power button to put it into sleep mode. The light on the power button change to red from white. But at some point, could be a couple of minutes or one hour, the screen back light will turn on though the screen is still dark (nothing displays). And at this time, the light on the power button will become white. And the worst thing is it'll never go back to sleep mode once it is in this state. I used a Electric Meter to test the power comsuption. At running time (when I use it and power button light in white), it consumes aournd 26 watts. At sleep time(power button light in red), it comsumes around 5 watts. At the state of dark screen with back light on ( the problemmatic state I describe above), it comsume almost the same as running time around 24 watts. This is too bad for an Android device. Though I'm able to pay the bill, but why should we waste energy and money? I report the problem. HP sent me another one. But the same problem there. I guess it is caused by the latest OS update. HP really should fix this. Does anyone has this issue? I'm so supprised that no one report this issue.

MacBook pro crashes, white screen & lines on the screen
Hello, dear forum users, i need your help very much!
I am sorry for a long text, but i am trying to be detailed as much as possible.
I have bought MacBook pro 15' late 2011 model. I am very happy using it. Everything was working perfectly. A month ago i have updated my mac with SDD drive(Samsung ssd 256gb) & corsair 16GB rams. Up to now it was working perfectly, i haven't had any problems. But yesterday after i closed my mac(put it to the sleep mode) and after 10-15 minutes i opened it and there was just a black screen. No response to any of keys, mouse. After hard reset(holding power button. And turning it back on) i have received infinite white screen(i mean lightly gray). The one which follows after you turn on a mac. Waited a lot of time - nothing. Again hard reset.... again nothing. After some time i launched it successful. 5 minutes working - got completely blue screen. I thought it is because of software. When i restart mac, every second time, it works (not getting into infinite light gray screen). I made a backup on external hdd. When I am successfully logged it, it works like perfect. But then(sometimes immediately after logging in, sometimes after 15-20 minutes of work, sometimes after 2 minutes.... randomly) screen just freezes - no response to any key or mouse. And after 5-10 sec mac automatically restarts.
When i run mac in restore mode(cmd+r) it works good... I formatted sdd and installed completely fresh maverics software. Didn't helped. After 30minutes work screen again freezed and mac restarted after 5-10 sec. After restarting i have got "problem report for os x", and here is what it writes:
Your computer was restarted because of a problem.

There was also very weird behaviour of my mac, i have captures the video. I have uploaded it to the youtube, here is the link, please see it:
http://youtu.be/ossDHVRl7DE -on the video you can see slitted screen and white lines all along the screen.
The thing is that i am now studying abroad, in Denmark, and any computer repair there is extremely expensive. And I dont have warranty anymore. Could you please help me and say how serious it is and what it might be? :/I thought these strips are caused by PCIe , second video card, but then I launched virtual machine (just to make computer switch to the second video adapter to see it something will change). Now virtual machine is working in the background, Mac is working on the second video adapter - nothing bad happens.(just as before)... But then suddenly, out of nowhere it ether gets freezed or strips appears on the screen(as on photo above)
Video how it freezes
http://youtu.be/uTrWuvphNQs
I was just continue "working" with that and then happen this:( please see video attached)
http://youtu.be/QM7oCRlzt9M it lasted for ~20 second and I was pressing some random keys on the keyboard... And then it got back to normal.. :/// -
Ipod classic 80gb shows blank white screen
I have an Ipod classic 80gb. I was having sync issues w/ itunes so I restored it using the itunes restore button. All good, it said it was updating my Ipod software and all went well. Then upon restart of the Ipod at the completion of the software update, no apple icon or anything. Just a blank white screen. The click wheel and all buttons still function as does the hold switch. I have tried resetting it (Menu and select) numerous times to no avail. I have tried restoring it and everything else with no result either. Connect it to my computer, Itunes sees it, syncs with it and all is well, just a blank white screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I also have this problem. I've been living with it for about 3-4 months. My iPod classic 60gb will happily play music, connect to computers, and do every other function is has...the problem is I can't see what functions I'm selecting because of the blank screen - the back light is on, but none of the details seems to get loaded.
So in theory, it's like using my iPod with my eyes shut - blindly navigating.
This started happening around the time I got a car fm transmitter to use with it, so possibly the use of this may have corrupted the display?
I'm still at a loss of how to fix this, other than taking it to get repaired somehow. Anyone else having this problem, or have a solution? -
My 6th Generation iPod Nano (Dopi is his name) took an unfortunate ride through my washing machine a few weeks back (one of the draw backs of it being so small and lightweight... it can sometimes elude the quick pre-laundry pocket check). At first, it was okay. I immediately threw it into a ziploc bag full of rice to pull all the moisture out of it. The screen was a little blotchy for a while, but it eventually seemed to work out all the kinks and was back to full operation within 12 hours. I was using it fairly regularly after that for the next couple days with no issues.
A few days later, my iPod was getting low on fuel and had a "Connect to Power" screen on it. So I plugged it into my iMac, and everything was working fine, I started to manage some playlists in iTunes while it charged, and that's when I noticed the screen was odd. Instead of the usual "Do Not Disconnect" screen that I'm used to, the screen had an all-white background, with a black "Do Not Disconnect." message on it. I thought it was odd. But I ejected it, and it said "Ok to disconnect." with a black checkmark. Same white background, black text. (also a black battery life icon in the top right corner) I disconnected, and it just told me to connect to power, again.
Finding that weird, I let the iPod's power completely drain, figuring that would fix the issue. It did not. As soon as I plugged it back in, the white screen came back. I let it power up to full, and after I eject and disconnect it, the "OK to disconnect" screen comes back, even after I've disconnected, and it stays there. I can't operate anything on it.
I've tried everything I know how to do: I've let the power drain, and recharged to full. I've tried resetting it. I tried restoring it to factory settings. And I tried to reset it and put it into disk mode, but the black and white "OK to disconnect." screen comes back before I can even get it into disk mode.
Before I restored to factory settings, I could still manage all the files on my iPod. I could add songs, remove them, make playlists and everything when I had it connected to iTunes, I just can't do anything with the iPod itself. So, my little Dopi is in a coma right now. He's still alive, he just won't wake up. I don't want to pull the plug on him.
Any suggestions? Anyone else have this problem?
It's not easy for me to get to an Apple Store, so I thought I'd try this before I take it to any geniuses.Hello iamjonnyb1988,
The article linked below, while written for iOS devices, details some useful troubleshooting steps that can help get your computer to recognize your iPod Nano.

panic: we are hanging here...
This has been going on since I've tried to upgrade OS6. It would go to this black screen but eventually come back on with a drained battery.
ITunes error showed to restore phone back to factory settings so I did but it only worked for 4 days. Now it's been down for at least 15 hours.
Any one see this issue before?Thank you. There is not an apple store near by. I need my phone for work. My warranty has expired and 13 month into contract is too early for the 18 month early upgrade. I reset the device and plugged it in to Itunes and restored it again. The part that confuses me and perhaps why i didn't work last time is...Restore to new phone or Restore to my iphone back up so I always choose my phone but perhaps this doesn't bring it back to factory settings. I just don't want to loose my contacts. It is working now but it's probably just a matter of time before it the black and white screen come back up. I think it;s a system update issue. I'm going to call Apple.

White Screen when trying to setup Wifi on TX
Hi - I can't get to the wifi setup screen on my TX. As soon as I click enable radio, I get a white screen. I have tried a hard reset, and have also checked the router settings. I am able to connect wirelessly with other devices. I am not sure of what else to try - any thoughts?
Post relates to: Palm PilotThank you! It worked for me as well. If I press down and hold on the back towards the left of the reset button, the white screen goes away. I was able to setup the connection.
The white screen comes back from time to time, and when I press on the back, the screen freezes sometimes too. It is very "unstable". Thank you for the tip though! -
White screen of death ipod touch 4g 32gb [dropped]
I got my ipod touch 4g 32gb for Christmas 2012, so it's still quite new, i accidently dropped it on the kitchen floor, screen face down [facebook app was currently running at the time] it had a silocon case on it so it wasn't as bad, when i pick up my ipod to check it was alright, the screen was all white [white screen of death].
I've tried 'home+lock screen buttons' & i have also tried 'Home+lock screen+ volume up buttons' this didn't work.
my friend suggested that i leave it to drain out and after 24 hours it died out, after about 20-30 mins i put it back on charge and the white screen came back up, i took it off and i'm leaving it for the night and will try it again tomorrow, does any one have any suggestions on other ways i could fix it, please help, thanks.Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. Could be a loose connection or something worse.
