White screen of death after using with car charger

I plugged my iphone into a brand new belkin car charger and it instantly caused the screen to go white. I unplugged it immediately and then reset it.
The next day I charged it and it booted up ok, but would not acquire the cell network and then would not respond to touch.
I then rebooted again and rather than getting pure white screen, I got lines of different colour vertically up and down the screen. Eventually it then created a white screen again. Everytime I reset or touched any button, the same sequence would occur - flicker of coloured lines on the screen and then  fill out to a white screen. Plugging it into a mac made no difference, it was not recognised by the computer.
It is now completely bricked and does not respond to anything.
Anyone seen anything similar ?

Yes!!! After the 1.1.1 update, I had the exact same thing happen with my Belkin Auto Kit. A real bummer, because until I updated, I was happy as a clam listening to music in my car off my iPhone.
Anyway, I had the same thing happen- white screen with flashing colored lines and then a whole bunch of problems. Eventually, my iPhone became completely unresponsive. An Apple Genius took one look at it and gave me a new phone.

  • White screen of death after 3 mins of usage

Hiyah, so my iphone got the so called "White screen of death" after 3 minutes of usage, i've tried restore and all of that but without success.
    What should i do?
Send it in for repair? (seems really ridicilous if have to since it was bought the same day)
    or
Take it back to the store where i bought it and ask for a new one?
Thanks in advance, oh yeah.. i live in Sweden.

Standard troubleshooting steps in the following order:
    1. Reset: Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the apple logo, then release. Ignore the slide to power off.
    If no change, continue:
    2. Restore your phone from your most recent backup, Note, however: if the problem is related to corrupt data in your phone's backup, while this will restore a fresh OS, it will also restore the problem.
    If no change, continue:
    3. Restore as a "new" phone in itunes & re-sync your content. All saved data will be lost.
If no change, make an appointment at an Apple store, as you most likely have a hardware problem. There are no more user troubleshooting steps available.

  • White Screen of Death (after restoring)

Guys, I've been dealing with the White Screen of Death, but it was always solved by turning it off/on, or restarting it.
The white screen used to happen when leaving my iPod for 3 days without using it.
However this time, 4 days passed without touching it, and I can't make it work.
I tried restoring it from a recent backup without success.
    What could I do?
Is it hardware or software problem?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • White screen on startup after using Bootcamp

    I have a Mid 2011 21.5 inch iMac, 2.7GHz i5, 1TBHDD, 12GB DDR3 Memory, AMD HD6770M.
I also have it configured with a Bootcamp partition running windows, which is about 200GB. The other day, after running bootcamp, I restarted the computer in OSX from the Windows menu. The computer would initially not restart in OSX. It just sat there with the screen displaying all white. I did a hard restart with the power button, and after showing the all white screen for approximately another 5 minutes, the Apple logo finally showed up and it booted into OSX.
Since doing this I now have this same issue every time I turn on the iMac. It's only resolved by holding down the option key and selecting the Macintosh HDD from the available bootup disks. I've been running Bootcamp on this machine now for over a year and never had this issue before.
This is highly unusual, but has me worried. I also had a 2007 MacBook, which got a case of "white screen of death" about a month ago, and its irreparable.
Can anyone enlighten me as to what the problem might be? Failing HDD (it's not one of the recall models)? Motherboard? A problem with Bootcamp?
    Any fixes people know about?
    Thanks

Do you want to default to windows or Mac as the OS of choice? You can bless either one of them as the default.

  • Grey Screen of Death after using Migration Assistant

Just got a new iMac 27" i7 today. Starts up fine until running migration assistant. After which shortly after the grey apple logo appears I get the Grey Screen of Death™ saying I need to restart the computer. Restarting does not help, running Disk Utility from the startup disk does not help. Checked for bad ram, not the ram. Unplugged and let sit for 10 minutes. Nothing. Erased drive, reinstalled OS, started up fine. Ran Migration assistant again, focusing on apps only, not settings. GSOD™ again. Currently I'm reinstalling the OS after erasing the drive again.

I see, using MA over a wireless network isn't highly recommended as it literally could take days or even a week to wirelessly move GB's of data over wi-fi.
However I'm glad you figured out the problem. The problem with Quicken 07 may be that it relies on Rosetta to run on Intel based machines. Unless you have Rosetta on your new iMac that could have been the problem however I"m not sure why. As it turns out I also use Quicken (dreadful software!) and used MA to move it to another machine however my installation went smooth as silk. When I first started Quicken on the new machine Snow Leopard sensed I didn't have Rosetta and prompted me to download it which I did.

  • White screen of death after installing Macfuse

I had a well running MacPro hexa 3.2 (upgraded from a quad 2.6G hz) under ML and since I needed to backup some files from an ext3 drive I looked up how to mount them.
The proposed solution was to install both OSXFuse and Fuse-ext2, which I did. I could access the file through a recovery utility, but it did not mount; since the guide suggested to restart in this case,
I did. And it started showing the white screen, not responding to startup DVDs, disconnecting, all possible known key combinations.
Unfortunately I don't have a boot USB key, but given the boot DVD does not work Indoubt it could help.
    Any known solution?
    Thanks in advance
    Maurizio

Thanks, this worked. I knew this and I had connected to the front connectors, the back ones instead worked.
I booted in safe mode, and then I could reboot normally and it worked, but now the ext3 drive does not mount anyway. I find some folders with the name of the drive but there's a No access sign and they are given as 0 MB.
So, good I still have my machine working, but no ext3 backup yet. TO stay on the safe side now, I'm trying to see if I can find a Win XP driver on an old PC I don't care too much about...

  • BeJeweled and White Screen of Death

Does anyone know if the game Bejeweled creates a software conflict with OS 5. The wife gets a white screen of death after 5 or 10 minutes playing and I have to hook it up to the desltop software to get rid of it as removing the battery doesnt resolve it. All that does is start a reboot and then right back to a WSOD. The phone is a Curve 8520.

Got my own answer. I had downloaded and installed the one from Rogers so I deleted that and got the one off app world and it's working fine.

    Jerricayoung,
you have a 13-inch Mid 2012 MacBook Pro. It’s modern enough that it supports booting into Recovery mode. To do so, hold down a Command key and the R key as you start up. It should eventually show a Mac OS X Utilities menu. Select Disk Utility from that menu; when the Disk Utility window appears, select the bootable volume from the left-hand side of the window. (It’s typically called “Macintosh HD”.) When the volume is selected, some buttons will appear on the right-hand side. If it’s not greyed out, press the Verify Disk button; if it is greyed out, or if it reports on errors that it found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu; that will restart your MacBook Pro in its normal mode. With luck, that will be enough to get you to your normal login screen, rather than the white screen.

  • N97 White screen of death (WSOD) with FW V11.0.21

I have my nokia N97 almost a week now. This morning opera mini froze and I couldn't turn it off so I removed the battery. After reinserting the battery and turned the phone on I got the White screen of death (WSOD), just a white screen with the word nokia on it. I tried to boot it without the simcard and also waiting 30+ minutes before reinserting the battery. But I still have de WSOD...
Do I have to keep it on to drain the battery or are there other methods to fix this problem. I don't feel like sending it to Nokia because I have to wait more than 2 weeks before it's fixed...
The past 2 weeks I have used it intensively, installed a lot of apps. Put 300+ songs on it and and some movies. I had the email widget on the home screen, I heard that's one of the problem on other forums...
Any ideas how I can boot up normally....
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    WSOD
    Hard Reset
    The combination is:
Shift + Space bar + Backspace + Power your phone
    Instructions to bypass WSOD:
All you need is: Methodology 1 as posted by some other user
    N97
    Charger
    Follow these steps:
    Turn off your phone.
    Insert charger.
Remove charger right after screen lights up.
Wait a couple of seconds till screen turns off and just after that press power button.
After standart vibration notification just put your charger in.
VOILA! You can insert your PIN again!
I am using this method for almost a month and it seems that this is only one way to boot up my N97.
It would be nice to hear if this method works for you
Anyway, I have found a solution, that works for me everytime the WSOD comes up. It goes like this when WSOD keeps coming up:
    Instructions to bypass WSOD:
All you need is: Methodology 1 as posted by some other user
    1. Pull battery and re-insert it.
    2. Power up the phone by holding the "Power button + RED key + GREEN key + Camera key" and wait 30 seconds or so.
    3. After the wait the phone should come up normally asking for the SIM passcode and everything is fine.
"Power button + RED key + GREEN key + Camera key" is a sort of "soft reset", it keeps all the installations and everything as opposed to the "hard reset".
Hope this helps, and let's all hope that Nokia QA start testing their smartphone software with a little more care. I cannot imagine that normal people would live with such blatant bugs.
    My solution to yesterday experience
    What I have done:
    1. Switch Off Nokia N97 by pulling out the battery
    2. Pull out the SIM CARD and Memory Card
    3. Switch on The Nokia N97 without SIM AND MEMORY CARD
    4. Then do the Factory Settings by going to phone menu options because by this time WSOD will be over.
    5. Then Insert the SIM and restart it.
    6. Again Switch Off the same and insert Memory Card.
    7. Switch on again and restore settings as backedup whether in your PC or memory card to get last settings.

  • How to deal with the "white screen of death"?

My 1 hour old iMac (27 inch i5) just died. I had used it for less than 30 mins when it downloaded an OS update and rebooted. Then it refuses to boot, stuck in a white screen.
After that I slid in the recover disk and used the disk utility to restore the HDD as in the recover manual. It then spent 30 mins recovering,. However, on re-start it is still stuck in the white screen of death.
    What do i do now?

    Hi anerjee;
With a brand new Mac, personally I would not mess with it. I would take it back to Apple and ask them to fix it.

  • White screen of death with little black clock thing

I've had the so called white screen of death for 2 days. Phone was locked in pocket. Took it out and there was a tiny error message on the screen. unfortunately I can't tell you what message it was :-(
Removed battery for long and short periods. Each time, when put bavck in, the led light flicks on and i get the white screen (without me powering it up). The phone is totally unresponsive.
I've tried the following but the computer recognises my phone (instead of 'unknown'), then I get the message "The Blackberry Desktop Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator".
Done the downloads then nothing apart from the phone turning itself off. HURRAH! However, it's back to square one because if I touch it, we go back to the beginning.
    1) Make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed.
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
    2) On your PC, go to Start > Run and copy and paste the following line exactly (meaning with the quotation marks):
    "c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader\loader.exe" /nojvm
    3) The Application Loader Wizard will appear -- click "Next."
    4) In the "Connection:" drop-down menu, you should see "USB-PIN: UNKNOWN". Click the "Next" button.
    5) You should then see a list of applications ready to be installed for your Blackberry. Hit Next and Finish and you are well on your way to getting your Blackberry back to life. Congrats! Just don't disconnect anything and let the lengthy process finish completely.
NOTE: If you do not see a list of applications mentioned in step 5 and instead see the message "The Blackberry Desktop Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator," then you must download Blackberry's Operating System for your carrier and device.
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/BlackBerry_Operating_System_Downloads
Just select the appropriate carrier and network type, select your Blackberry model from the list and download the latest version. Install this download and follow the above steps again and you should be on the right path.
I've tried all of this on the old, slow laptop but have a mac as well.
    PLEASE someone HELP!

Suzi-Q wrote:. Seriously fed up about not being able to back up on a mac
Hi you can use the mac
    http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/desktop_mac.jsp
However, if you haven't already done a backup, it is most certainly too late, but its worth a long-shot.
From your original post, it seems to me you did most things except a complete wipe without which I think you may be stuck with the white screen. Whether you use JL_CMDER or BBSAK to perform this vital step, they need a Windows OS. Whilst I do not have any mac knowledge, I do know that you can run Windows 7 on the mac. However, sounds like a faff to me. Can you not borrow a friends PC?
Below are the wipe and reinstall instructions which includes using JL_CMDER
This what I did to completely wipe my BB. I wrote this before starting and printed it off.
If your device is functioning, perform a backup now if you haven't already done so saving the file to a place and in a name that you can easily locate on computer.
I then uninstalled DTM and then deleted all other references to BB/Rim in Windows Explorer thus removing the OS for the BB from the computer in order to ensure that the version I would reinstall would be a brand new downloaded version.
Get the latest Desk Top Software (DTS)
    http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/?CPID=OTC-DSKTPSW&cp=OTC-DSKTPSW
and install it on the computer.
Get the correct latest version of the OS
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    and save it to computer.
To erase all the data on your BlackBerry device, complete the following steps.
    1) Download JL_Cmder from http://www.4shared.com/get/oqP9V-2Q/JL_Cmder_v19.html
    2) Install JL_Cmder to computer.
    3) Double check you have already backed-up the BB. If you DO NOT, you will lose ALL data.
    4) Make sure the DTS is closed and plug in the BB to computer via USB
    5) Go to the JL_Cmder on your computer and double click it to start. Now,this may take a few tries to connect, so keep trying until it does.
    6) On the first screen, Press any key to continue.
    7) Now, if your device uses a password, enter it now. If not, press "N"
    8) Press 4 to initiate the WIPE
    9) Press "Y" to continue
    10) Now type "blackberry" to continue
    11) On the BB you will see a white screen with a'507' Error. Don't worry, this is what you want! You are now ready to install the OS.
Launch the new Desk Top Software on the computer
1). On the home screen of the BlackBerry® Desktop Software, click Device > Update my device.
2). Click View Other Versions. Click the version of the new OS you previously downloaded.
3). Click Install. The DTM will install the OS and then provide you with a list of applications to install. If you have had difficulties with an app, do not install it.
Do not disconnect the device until the whole process is completed and the device has rebooted.
After 10 minutes reboot again by removing the battery whilst powered-on and leave it out for a couple of minutes.
Leave it again for 10 minutes. You should now have a fully functioning BB!

  • OOB White Screen Of Death: Silverlight Installation required after each reboot.

    Hi,
we are getting White Screen Of Death on few user's machine for last few months and a number of users is getting added from last month for the same issue. Earlier we were using the CleanSilverlight from the following site
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2608523.
Now we have the following issue that requires immediate fix:
Whenever we apply CleanSilverlight then my OOB starts working fine but it start displaying same white screen after few days without any action (Installation/Uninstallation)
Whenever the system reboots then we need to apply CleanSilverlight and install the Silverlight once again on user's machine to work with OOB. It seems rebooting interferes with OOB application.
Both of these issues are very frequent from last one month. I don't know if any update to windows/browser is the root cause for the issue.
One the system is having the following configuration to run OOB:
OS name and version: Windows 7 32-bit
    Browser name & version: IE 8 & Google Chrome 38.0.2125.111 m
    Silverlight version: 5.1.30514.0
Any help would be greatly appreciated.Regards, Maddy

    Hi,
Clean the corrupted Silverlight installation and reinstall the Silverlight should fix the issue:
As mentioned above it does fix the issue but sometimes its not permanent solution, It just pop up once again.
I don't understand why should we downgrade the version of the Silverlight. Its working fine after applying CleanSilverlight
    and reinstalling Silverlight.
There must be something that's corrupting it. vize Antivirus, any new update etc.
Also I would like to know why the Silverlight is getting corrupted at all. Why do we need to apply CleanSilverlight?
Still looking for a proper solution.
    Regards,

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Is your iPod showing the White Screen?
Can you get your iPod into Disk Mode?
    Putting iPod into Disk Mode
After you get it into Disk Mode, try to restore it (after you get iTunes working).
See if this helps with iTunes not opening...

  • White screen of death with clicking sound?

i got a White screen of death with clicking sound after crashing in boot camp with winXP, i try to put in the macbook installed disc, but nothing happened & i cannot reject the CD, is it the hard drive problem & how can i fix it? do i have to replace the hard drive....

It appears that Apple knows about the problem now: http://venturebeat.com/2010/11/04/apple-admits-to-macbook-air-screen-problems-in ternally-software-fix-coming/
The only problem is that I ended up buying a new Macbook Air and Apple is taking back my other one. The wanted me to send it in and have them replace it, but it's my only computer and I can't be without it for a week. It would suck if they come up with a software fix and replacing it was not necessary.
Support was very helpful and worked with me for a few days trying to isolate the issue. I don't get the horizontal lines (I get a solid grey, white, black or blue screen), so I am not sure if my issue is the same as the one that Apple is recognizing.
