White screen of death with little black clock thing

I've had the so called white screen of death for 2 days. Phone was locked in pocket. Took it out and there was a tiny error message on the screen. unfortunately I can't tell you what message it was :-(
Removed battery for long and short periods. Each time, when put bavck in, the led light flicks on and i get the white screen (without me powering it up). The phone is totally unresponsive.
I've tried the following but the computer recognises my phone (instead of 'unknown'), then I get the message "The Blackberry Desktop Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator".
Done the downloads then nothing apart from the phone turning itself off. HURRAH! However, it's back to square one because if I touch it, we go back to the beginning.
1) Make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed.
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
2) On your PC, go to Start > Run and copy and paste the following line exactly (meaning with the quotation marks):
"c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader\loader.exe" /nojvm
3) The Application Loader Wizard will appear -- click "Next."
4) In the "Connection:" drop-down menu, you should see "USB-PIN: UNKNOWN". Click the "Next" button.
5) You should then see a list of applications ready to be installed for your Blackberry. Hit Next and Finish and you are well on your way to getting your Blackberry back to life. Congrats! Just don't disconnect anything and let the lengthy process finish completely.
NOTE: If you do not see a list of applications mentioned in step 5 and instead see the message "The Blackberry Desktop Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator," then you must download Blackberry's Operating System for your carrier and device.
http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/BlackBerry_Operating_System_Downloads
Just select the appropriate carrier and network type, select your Blackberry model from the list and download the latest version. Install this download and follow the above steps again and you should be on the right path.
I've tried all of this on the old, slow laptop but have a mac as well.
PLEASE someone HELP!

Suzi-Q wrote:. Seriously fed up about not being able to back up on a mac
Hi you can use the mac
http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/desktop_mac.jsp
However, if you haven't already done a backup, it is most certainly too late, but its worth a long-shot.
From your original post, it seems to me you did most things except a complete wipe without which I think you may be stuck with the white screen. Whether you use JL_CMDER or BBSAK to perform this vital step, they need a Windows OS. Whilst I do not have any mac knowledge, I do know that you can run Windows 7 on the mac. However, sounds like a faff to me. Can you not borrow a friends PC?
Below are the wipe and reinstall instructions which includes using JL_CMDER
This what I did to completely wipe my BB. I wrote this before starting and printed it off.
If your device is functioning, perform a backup now if you haven't already done so saving the file to a place and in a name that you can easily locate on computer.
I then uninstalled DTM and then deleted all other references to BB/Rim in Windows Explorer thus removing the OS for the BB from the computer in order to ensure that the version I would reinstall would be a brand new downloaded version.
Get the latest Desk Top Software (DTS)
http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/?CPID=OTC-DSKTPSW&cp=OTC-DSKTPSW
and install it on the computer.
Get the correct latest version of the OS
http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
and save it to computer.
To erase all the data on your BlackBerry device, complete the following steps.
1) Download JL_Cmder from http://www.4shared.com/get/oqP9V-2Q/JL_Cmder_v19.html
2) Install JL_Cmder to computer.
3) Double check you have already backed-up the BB. If you DO NOT, you will lose ALL data.
4) Make sure the DTS is closed and plug in the BB to computer via USB
5) Go to the JL_Cmder on your computer and double click it to start. Now,this may take a few tries to connect, so keep trying until it does.
6) On the first screen, Press any key to continue.
7) Now, if your device uses a password, enter it now. If not, press "N"
8) Press 4 to initiate the WIPE
9) Press "Y" to continue
10) Now type "blackberry" to continue
11) On the BB you will see a white screen with a'507' Error. Don't worry, this is what you want! You are now ready to install the OS.
Launch the new Desk Top Software on the computer
1). On the home screen of the BlackBerry® Desktop Software, click Device > Update my device.
2). Click View Other Versions. Click the version of the new OS you previously downloaded.
3). Click Install. The DTM will install the OS and then provide you with a list of applications to install. If you have had difficulties with an app, do not install it.
Do not disconnect the device until the whole process is completed and the device has rebooted.
After 10 minutes reboot again by removing the battery whilst powered-on and leave it out for a couple of minutes.
Leave it again for 10 minutes. You should now have a fully functioning BB!

  • White screen of death with clicking sound?

i got a White screen of death with clicking sound after crashing in boot camp with winXP, i try to put in the macbook installed disc, but nothing happened & i cannot reject the CD, is it the hard drive problem & how can i fix it? do i have to replace the hard drive....

It appears that Apple knows about the problem now: http://venturebeat.com/2010/11/04/apple-admits-to-macbook-air-screen-problems-in ternally-software-fix-coming/
The only problem is that I ended up buying a new Macbook Air and Apple is taking back my other one. The wanted me to send it in and have them replace it, but it's my only computer and I can't be without it for a week. It would suck if they come up with a software fix and replacing it was not necessary.
Support was very helpful and worked with me for a few days trying to isolate the issue. I don't get the horizontal lines (I get a solid grey, white, black or blue screen), so I am not sure if my issue is the same as the one that Apple is recognizing.

  • My screen is completely white, i've tried holding lock and home buttons as seen on you tube something called 'white screen of death' its goes black (think it switches off) then back to the white screen need help fast please!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Is your iPod showing the White Screen?
Can you get your iPod into Disk Mode?
    Putting iPod into Disk Mode
After you get it into Disk Mode, try to restore it (after you get iTunes working).
See if this helps with iTunes not opening...

  • White screen of death going temporarily black screen of death.

I have a iphone4s that went white-screen-of-death on me just last week. recently its now giving me a multi-coloured screen show, and a finale of black-screen-of-death. Not sure what to do, and whether its worth going to the apple store when I can't afford repairs, and its a year out of warranty. I can still answer calls, or access apps, etc, but can't see what I'm actually doing.

  • White screen of death with XP SP2

Today I got my copy of Windows XP SP2 in the mail from my college since I get everything at discount. I went into bootcamp, made a 30GB partition, popped in the Windows CD and was good to go. I installed it on the partition with no problems, and Windows installed and booted up and I was a pleased man.
Then I put in the Leopard disk like it said ten minutes before in Boot Camp to install drivers, the drivers installed. Yay. It prompted me to reboot for the settings to take place and I didn't have much time to re-act because it was going to reboot in ten seconds or so anyways if I didn't click restart from the box.
So mr. Macbook reboots, and gives me this white screen that I can't pass.
I did some research and everybody seemed to be stating it happened with SP1, but the disk clearly states (and I ordered it as) XP Professional SP2. Keep in mind the Leopard disk is still in there and no key combinations are working.
I leave for college in three days. Am I screwed?

You get this white screen as soon as your computer turns on? Or do you get after you know that you are booting into Windows? Is it similar to the regular Mac boot up screen? Try turning off your computer and turning back on, holding the option key. At that point try selecting your windows partition. If it still does not work, do the same thing, except eject the disk (eject key) right before selecting the partition. I can't really help beyond that...

  • White Screen of Death - With Codes

    Hey Guys
I shut off my iMac normally only to wake up the following day to this white screen. I've gone through a couple of forum to find a solution but to no avail. The white screen has some code on it. Attached is a picture of my screen.
    Thanx

not know what you tried or didn't
(...I've gone through a couple of forum to find a solution but to no avail... )
lets restate what you might have done
Is the computer under warranty? Call Apple, they'll fix it.
    If not:
    Reboot
Reboot and clear PRAM (CMD+Option+P+R) repeat until you hear the 3rd chime and let go of the keys
Remove all USB, FW, etc devices and reboot. If computer boots fine connect keyboard and mouse to log in.
    Reboot into Safe Mode
Hold down SHIFT at boot, either one, keep held until system says "Safe Mode"
Boot from a repair USB or DVD etc by inserting the media (if you have it) and holding Option+O at boot until you get a list of bootable devices
or use recovery mode (CMD+R) go to the Disk Utility, select your disk in the window, check your disk and if necessary repair your disk or you may possibly need to reinstall Yosemite on your OS boot disk or your problem could be something more serious.

  • White screen of death with flashing question mark

After a year and a half of frequent freezing of the screen, my expensive apple mac book has crashed. I thought this only happened to microsoft.
I tried reloading the software, just like the manuel suggested, and this failed.
Should I go buy a decent laptop from Dell or HP?

that usually means that the comp cant find a startup disc.. have you tried to boot from the install cd? put the disc in start up holding "c"..(it takes a while to boot from the disc).
how come you have had 18months of problems?

  • White screen of death with some text, what can be done?

Anybody knows what can be the reason for this particular screen? What can be done?
I bought over eBay, and discovered that the logicboard was changed...
Tried few times to restore, but same results.. sometimes the screen becomes completely red.
The display works fine, from time to time it starts correctly and I can activate the phone and play around.
I tried DFU, but I get the error 4013 in iTunes during the restore, then it switches to recovery mode and a further restore gets interrupted.
Is there any deeper way to completely wipe phone's firmware, to make sure there is absolutely no software issue?
Or should I bring it to the Genius bar?

  • White Screen of death caused during update of IOS 8.3

My Girlfriend was updating her iPhone 5 to iOS 8.3, A message came in during and she clicked on it. This in turn caused the phone to with to the white screen of death with the apple logo and upload bar paused. We've tried the usual hard re-set, also plugged into iTunes for a factory restore but then it asks for you to click allow on the phone. We can't do this because we can't see anything other than the apple logo.
Every now and then the screen flashes and shows you the home page. and using siri we managed to make a call.
Any help or advise  would be great.
    Very strange
    Thanks
    Jamie

DId she bother reading the message that appeared?
That is not a "White Screen of death". That is the reboot screen which the phone does while updating. You should have left it alone. Put the phone in Recovery mode and Restore it in iTunes.

  • Installed Lion then white screen of death

Hello I just installed Lion based on an email that said I had to switch for the migration from Mobile Me to ICloud. As soon as it downloaded, there was a problem. A screen came up that said, problem loading restart to try again. I did and now I have the white screen of death with a flashing apple, file with a question mark and the no symbol, I.e. circle with a line through it.  I've shut down at least twice but when I restart all I get is the white screen and flashing symbols. Everything is backed up via my time machine but this is crazy. Pls help.  Thank you. T

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

  • N97 White screen of death (WSOD) with FW V11.0.21

I have my nokia N97 almost a week now. This morning opera mini froze and I couldn't turn it off so I removed the battery. After reinserting the battery and turned the phone on I got the White screen of death (WSOD), just a white screen with the word nokia on it. I tried to boot it without the simcard and also waiting 30+ minutes before reinserting the battery. But I still have de WSOD...
Do I have to keep it on to drain the battery or are there other methods to fix this problem. I don't feel like sending it to Nokia because I have to wait more than 2 weeks before it's fixed...
The past 2 weeks I have used it intensively, installed a lot of apps. Put 300+ songs on it and and some movies. I had the email widget on the home screen, I heard that's one of the problem on other forums...
Any ideas how I can boot up normally....
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    WSOD
    Hard Reset
    The combination is:
Shift + Space bar + Backspace + Power your phone
    Instructions to bypass WSOD:
All you need is: Methodology 1 as posted by some other user
    N97
    Charger
    Follow these steps:
    Turn off your phone.
    Insert charger.
Remove charger right after screen lights up.
Wait a couple of seconds till screen turns off and just after that press power button.
After standart vibration notification just put your charger in.
VOILA! You can insert your PIN again!
I am using this method for almost a month and it seems that this is only one way to boot up my N97.
It would be nice to hear if this method works for you
Anyway, I have found a solution, that works for me everytime the WSOD comes up. It goes like this when WSOD keeps coming up:
    Instructions to bypass WSOD:
All you need is: Methodology 1 as posted by some other user
    1. Pull battery and re-insert it.
    2. Power up the phone by holding the "Power button + RED key + GREEN key + Camera key" and wait 30 seconds or so.
    3. After the wait the phone should come up normally asking for the SIM passcode and everything is fine.
"Power button + RED key + GREEN key + Camera key" is a sort of "soft reset", it keeps all the installations and everything as opposed to the "hard reset".
Hope this helps, and let's all hope that Nokia QA start testing their smartphone software with a little more care. I cannot imagine that normal people would live with such blatant bugs.
    My solution to yesterday experience
    What I have done:
    1. Switch Off Nokia N97 by pulling out the battery
    2. Pull out the SIM CARD and Memory Card
    3. Switch on The Nokia N97 without SIM AND MEMORY CARD
    4. Then do the Factory Settings by going to phone menu options because by this time WSOD will be over.
    5. Then Insert the SIM and restart it.
    6. Again Switch Off the same and insert Memory Card.
    7. Switch on again and restore settings as backedup whether in your PC or memory card to get last settings.

  • How to deal with the "white screen of death"?

My 1 hour old iMac (27 inch i5) just died. I had used it for less than 30 mins when it downloaded an OS update and rebooted. Then it refuses to boot, stuck in a white screen.
After that I slid in the recover disk and used the disk utility to restore the HDD as in the recover manual. It then spent 30 mins recovering,. However, on re-start it is still stuck in the white screen of death.
    What do i do now?

    Hi anerjee;
With a brand new Mac, personally I would not mess with it. I would take it back to Apple and ask them to fix it.
