White Screen Of Doom.  Someone save me .

If someone can help me immediately, I would greatly appreciate it. When I turned on my computer after work tonight, everything seemed fine. The logo came up with the progress wheel and everything. However it was taking an unusual amount of time to load. Suddenly a thick grey bar appeared at the bottom of the screen ( underneath the progress wheel) and started blinking rapidly.
After doing that for a few moments it powered down.
So I tried booting it in safe mood. Same result. Next I zapped/repaired the PRAM/NVRAM. No such luck for me there.
So I dug out my MAX OX Install disc , waiting to do the first aid option. Here's where it gets interesting. When it responds to the command to load from the disk, the logo and progress wheel appears and then goes into a pure white screen of death. And then nothing happens. I tried giving it 30 minutes and the white screen just stayed there taunting me.
I don't know what else I can do. I made an apple call appointment and a appointment at my local apple store just in case the phone call repair isn't successful.
However, I wanted to know if any of you had any ideas I haven't tried. I have an overseas conference call tomorrow night and all my case material is on my macbook. I could really use some one's expert help.
Thank you so much in advance.

Alright, so I've been doing some work, and I still haven't fixed my iPod. I went to Best Buys Geek Squad booth and they gave me a checklist since I wasn't signed up with them, nor did I buy my iPod there (pick lil mo...). Anyways, I ran through the checklist, untill I hit "Restore your iPod using the latest iPod installer." I installed iPod for Windows 2006-06-28, ran it, and got a "iPod Manager Internal Error" Message, then it closed. I reinstalled it, and instead, I got "iPod Service Error." I attempted to restore using the two previous versions, but I got the second error both times. So, I googled up the error and clicked the second search result (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716) and performed everything in there, and my iPod still does not work. (In which, by the way, I love how Apple assumes that there is a problem with the Windows OS itself. "f you have tried all the steps in this document, and the linked documents, and iPod is still not being recognized correctly by iTunes or the iPod Updater, then there is likely some other system issue on your computer. This may require you to repair or reinstall Windows." Big ole LOL to you my Apple, LOL.)
Anyways, now I suspect that since the hard drive is not making with a sort of death clicking nose, that the hard drive runs fine, and that My Computer is able to locate the iPod as "Removable Disk", I assume that either A, there is some issue on the hard drive itself, or B, there is some sort of issue within the iPod that I can not fix.
Hopefully in a little while I'll be able to go back to Best Buy, have Geek Squad do the check themselves, and have them repair it.

  • White Screen of Doom

    Hiya everyone.
I accidentally dropped my Video iPod(30GIG) last night off of the counter. A meer 2 some feet made my iPod stop playing and display a completely white screen. I let the battery die overnight, and I plugged it back in this morning. It did -not- boot up with the Apple logo on the black BG, directly to the white screen. My computer recognized that -something- was plugged in, and did not come up as Fleet in My Computer, but instead, "Removable Device". iTunes itself also does not recognize if there is an iPod connected. Resetting brings the iPod back to the plain white screen. iPod Updater 2006-06-28 does not see an iPod connected to the computer.
To think Apple hasn't given the thought of having an easier way to reboot, AKA, a small button hidden inside of the iPod itself, only pushable by a long, extremely slender object, or even the simple ON/OFF button, but, thats just me...
Any sort of help would be appreciated! Thanks!

  • Vixia HF M300 - White Screen of Doom??

The touch-screen on my Vixia HF M300 has gone completely white. As in - there is light, so obviously it is getting power. But no image, no - nothing. No amount of turning the power on/off seems to do much, nor does wiggling the hinges on the display, twisting it 180 degrees, folding it back against the body of the cam or dancing around in circles howling at the moon do much difference either. I am (or - WAS, it's the only camcorder I currently own) using the camcorder for a shoot tomorrow and .. well. While it does still record, there's not much point in not being able to control what you're doing. Hope someone has a suggestion / solution ... Been seraching high and low all over the Interwebs to absolutely no avail. Just prior to the screen going white, there was an error message (that of course I did not pay much attention to -  and besides, it might have been utterly unrelated). Something with autopower being on or off.  I flipped the display forward to check the settings, then back again, and that is when it had gone blank. At first I thought it might have simply been a power issue, since the cam was running on a low battery pack at the time. Also, I was testing the built in video light, so that was on.  The second thing I did, after plugging in the AC (so it wasn't the power, I guess) was to look for the "reset" button on the device. I am still looking. How does one do a hard reset on a canon Vixia? I feels like something one at least ought to try. Other than the ribbon cable connecting the screen to the cam having some sort of  tear, I have few clues to what may be causing this.If the issue is NOT mechanical, might a reset of the firmware help? And if so, what is the correct way to go about this? Does anyone know what a new ribbon cable costs, and how expensive it might get to have a technician replace it? (not feeling too confident with small screwdrivers & lectric origami ..) And/or - Can anyone help me with compiling a list of possible causes / fixes so that I can spend the rest of the night interchangedly pulling at my hair and trying things that might work?  Thx a billion in advance for any suggestions,/S.

Hi Slartibartfast and dw2! Thanks for posting. There isn't a hard reset button on the camcorder that resets everything back to the defaults.  A reset can only be done from in the camcorder's menu.  If the screen is completely blank with only the backlight on, something is wrong that needs to be repaired. The VIXIA HF M300 is no longer in service life.  Replacement parts are no longer available, so it is no longer serviced by our Factory Service Centers.  However, you do have the option to participate in the Canon Loyalty Program instead.
The Canon Loyalty Program option allows you to replace your current camcorder for a discounted fee, plus shipping.  The original non-functioning camcorder would then be returned to Canon USA for recycling using a prepaid shipping label that would be provided.
If you would like to take part in this option, please call our Sales Department at 866-443-8002 seven days a week, 8am to Midnight.  Let them know you have been working with online support and the Canon Loyalty Program was offered.  Be sure to have your serial number for your camera at the time of your call.

  • IPhone 3GS works fine, unless I the screen goes black after no use.  Then I'm stuck on the white screen until I reset the phone.

The title kind of sums it up.  After having my 3GS for over a year without issue, it started acting up today.  I had my phone on my desk at work, and had been checking my e-mail, news, and web intermittently throughout the morning.  I set the phone down, in it's typical spot without issue.  No dropping, no hits, no...nothing.  Just set it on the desk and go about my work.
The next time I pick up the phone to use it, and hit the button, I'm greeted with an all-white screen.  WTH?  If I press and hold the home button the phone makes a "dunk" soud, like maybe I'm enabling the voice feature.  Long story short, I can restart the phone, and reset the phone, and it's fine.
UNTIL the screen goes dark from inactivity.  From that point on, it will ONLY come back in the full-white-screen mode UNTIL I reboot it again, in which case it's again functioning normally...UNTIL the screen goes black from inactivity.  I can hear the phone make text-alert noises as texts come in, my e-mail continues to download regularly, etc.  But it stays stuck in this white screen anytime the battery saver turns the screen black.
    Any ideas on this?

So, I've received and installed a replacement digitizer screen / component.  The good news is that the digitizer works just fine!  Screen swipes, finger tracking, etc are all great.
The bad news...is that it didn't fix my white screen issue.  Same symptoms...everything works fine at boot.  As long as I keep the screen from going dark, everything continues to work fine (rapidly consuming battery, of course).  If, at any time, the screen goes dark (get a call, accidentally press the top button to shut down the screen, etc), the screen will only come back on as a white screen.
All touch components are working fine at this time.  I've grown to remember where the "power down" swipe is located, so I press and hold the power down button, then swipe where I know the "power down" swipe is located.  Phone will shut down.
Restart the phone, and repeat the process.  Anyone have any other ideas?

  • T520: White screen a few seconds after logging into Windows

Starting yesterday, when I log into my computer 10-15 seconds after loading the desktop the screen goes completely white and is unresponsive. The only thing that makes it go away (sometimes) is ctrl-alt-del and telling the system to log off. As soon as it starts to try to log off and asks me if I want to force close certain programs I have to cancel the whole log off, otherwise I'll just end up logging in and the whole process starts over again. I've noticed that it seems as though a slideshow of my desktop background starts up and then just crashes, because occasionally that image appears before the white screen of doom.
    Any ideas?
    My specs:
    Windows 7 Home Premium x64-bit
    Intel i7-2760QM @ 2.40Ghz
    8 GB RAM

There are malware programs that cause those symptoms. (like Trojan Reveton) First, I would download an offline virus scanner. I tend to use Microsoft offline defender, because it tends to work and it's free. You will need to download the ISO and burn a disk. You need to download either the 32-bit version, or, more likely, the 64-bit version, depending on your OS.  You then boot from the disk you created and run the long scan.

  • White screen on wake up & screen saver

On March 25th, 2013, I updated from Lion 10.7.5 to Mountain Lion 10.8.3.  I began to get the white screeen on wake up that others have posted about.  I tried several of the fixes that were suggested with no success.
My normal set up for screen saver and energy saver is as follows:
Screen saver comes on at 5 minutes using Slideshows/Snapshots which pulls photos from PhotoStream.  At 10 minutes, the computer sleeps.  When I press the space bar to wake up the computer, I get the white screen.
    I experimented as follows:
I turned off the screen saver completely and did not get any white screens.  Then I put the screen saver on utilizing ScreenSavers/Flurry, and did not get any whote screens.  I then went back to my normal set up as described above, and the white screens returned.
So in my particlar situation, it seems the white screen problem is only related to using the Slideshows with pictures from PhotoStream.  Not the most scientific de-bugging approach, but perhaps this will help someone to discover a solution.

Reinstalling Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

First, I would start off your troubleshooting by following the steps in this link:

Apple Stores are not the only place to have Macs repaired. You can take your comp to your local AASP. First you should call AppleCare like the previous poster stated.

I am getting white screen of death on my Macbook Pro, can someone help please?

Intermittent or inconsistent situations as you describe are the most difficult to resolve.  First step you should do is be certain that you have your data backed up.  I suggest that you do this by creating a bootable clone using Carbon Copy Cloner.  The advantage to this is that not only is it a backup but can immediately be used to run your MBP in the event of an internal HHD failure.
The article that I gave you to start your search contains a link to this article:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3353
Though lengthy, it can resolve most issues if you go through all of the sections.  If you cannot achieve success, then an Apple store genius bar is the last option.
    Ciao.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
