White screen on Canvas window

I am using Final Cut and have created a small problem.
When viewing playback from the timeline in the canvas window, everything is fine. However, when I pause the playback the canvas window shows a white screen and when I try to move my text around etc, I can see the wireframe moving but I get a little black cross in the top right of the canvas.
Any ideas?

  • Mac Mini Server Boot Camp Windows 8.1 White Screen Issue

    Hello Apple Peeps!
I have a Mac Mini Server 2012 which I have had for around 6 months. I use it quite a lot mainly for Music Production on the OS X side and Graphic Design on the Windows side.
I recently decided to factory restore it as I wanted to spring clean it and reorganise the way some of my apps were installed. The way I had it set up was it was running OS X on one SSD and Windows 8.1 (installed using Boot Camp) on the other SSD. The way I went about the factory restore was I first used disk utility to erase/format the Windows SSD to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and then went about the factory restore of OS X onto the other SSD as normal (following instructions from the Apple website).
The issue I am having now is that my newly installed Windows 8.1 (used solely on a single SSD) is hanging on a white screen for quite a long time before the Windows splash screen shows up, where before when I would boot or restart into Windows there was no white screen and it would go straight into the Windows splash screen and load to the desktop very quickly.
    So my question is...
Why do I get this prolonged white screen before the Windows 8.1 splash screen appears? How can I get rid of it? It was certainly not present on my previous installation. Can anyone advise me what the computer is doing during this time so that I can do some further research into a solution.
    What I have tried already....
    1) PRAM & SMC reset.
    2) Setting the startup disk to Boot Camp in both OS X and Windows 8.1.
    3) Reinstalling Windows 8.1 through Boot Camp.
MAC MINI SERVER (LATE 2012), 2.6GHZ QUAD CORE I7, 16GB RAM, 2 x 256GB SSD, OS X 10.10.2, Windows 8.1 (Retail), Boot Camp Assistant (5.1.3), Covered By AppleCare.
I would really appreciate some help with this ;-)

I have right clicked on each SSD in Device Manager and selected the option 'Properties' from the drop down menu, which brings me to this window...
I'm not sure where I can find Device Attributes, I have clicked on each of the tabs in the window above, as far as I can see none of them mention AHCI enabled or anything similar. Thanks for all of your responses by the way...much appreciated!

  • Blank White Screens After Installing Lion in Software

    Before I start, I have a Macbook Pro 5,1 -- 2.66Ghz Core2Duo with 8GB of RAM, 500GB 7200rpm HDD, and an nVidia 9600GT M Graphics card
I installed Lion. This install was an UPGRADE from 10.6.8. Most of my apps arent working at all. Adobe CS 5.5 Master Collection, Final Cut Pro, Ableton Live, and even Time Machine.
They all just open up and give me a blank white screen (literally, a window, and instead of there being stuff inside the window its just a big giant WHITE BOX OF NOTHING). Time machine actually shows me the selected finder window but i couldnt select any older time machine dates.
Additionally I tried dragging icons off the dock, and it froze up my entire machine just by dragging them off the dock. I had to right click on icons to remove them.
I finally booted up into the "Recovery HD" and recovered my Time Machine backup to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 that I was using before.
I would very much like to use Lion, but it seems to have alot of problems with my machine. Should I do a completely fresh install maybe?
    Any other solutions?

I have reverted to a backup from yesterday in which Lion was first installed and ran without problems. But this time, the windows of my apps were still white.
I also tried creating a new user account, thinking that there was a chance that it was a conflict with a piece of 3rd party software. Not that I can rule out software conflicts, but I still had the same problems.
So I'm now reverting to Snow Leopard.  Ugh…
At least the "Recovery Partition" is pretty cool ;)

  • Grinding Noise, then Beep, then white screen now No Mac.

    Hi
IF YOU WANT A QUICK SUMMARY, PLEASE GO TO THE BOTTOM!
Yesterday evening I was running my mac, and though it was running quite hot, it wasn't as much as it has been before, and I wasn't particularly concerned by the temp.
The next thing I know i start to hear a like grinding type of noise, and then some scratching, but it was still running but really jumpily.
It was intermitent, every 2 seconds or so, but was getting progressively worse.
i had time to say brb on msn! then I turned it off.
When i restarted I was confronted by the white screen with only the windows partition of boot camp.
I attempted to load this, however it said something like
    'Boot manager failed'
The mac will not boot at all, and I have not put in a disc for fear of it failing to eject like last time. (i had this happen to me when i was in hospital, the mac was inside 30days and i may have got a sympathy vote, as my dad went to get it changed)
I am covered by the 3 year protection plan thing.
    SUMMARY:
Last night my mac made a grinding/scratching noise and when i restarted, it failed to boot.
I just get a white screen with the windows partition, which it won't load as it cant find 'boot manager'.
Firstly, what has happened to the mac?
Is it possible it could be software?
What are apple likely to do?
How long will I lose the mac for?
My superdrive has also been scratching discs quite badly, and has been making odd noises, the top cover is suffering from discolouration also.
Would I have a case to... and would they be likely to give me a new one?
As a C2D would make it all worthwhile... lol
    Thanks for your help
    Nick
    (on a pc...) lol

First of all, I see at least two hardware issues you should have gotten repaired before your computer eventually just crashed. Your superdrive scratching disks is not normal and Apple probably will replace this for you. The topcase discoloration is also something Apple has addressed and has been fixing for those who contact them about it.
Will they give you a new computer? Hardly. And why should they? You allowed this one to go unrepaired for quite some time until eventually it crashed. The beep you mentioned in the thread title, is that coming when you turn on the computer? If so it could mean you have an issue with your RAM.
Now don't get me wrong I am not blaming you for the things that have gone wrong with your computer. But common sense kinda dictate that these should be fixed so they don't lead to other, more serious problems later on.
By the way Apple will replace a computer they deem unrepairable. This does not mean go out and destroy it on purpose (as that would void the warranty) It just means if they have replaced 3 or more major hardware components in one year (such as hard drive, main logic board, etc) and it still fails, at that point they will replace the whole unit. But I do not believe you get an upgrade to a C2D if you didnot send in a C2D (but I could be wrong.)

  • My Macbook Pro Showing White Screen At startup

Macbook pro showing white screen after loading window
i think its not booting to hdd
    What shoud i do??
    Message was edited by: Krishnaraj7777

    Krishnaraj7777,
you can try this: boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the  OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Do you get past the white screen now?

  • I now get a blank (white) screen in the Viewer.  Can still drop video from the viewer into the canvas, but don't see it in the viewer.  Please help!

It doesn't seem to matter what project I'm working on... the picture in the viewer is gone.  All I see is a blank (white) screen.  If I put the cursor over the viewer and drag to the timeline, the clip will appear on the time line (and in the canvas) but I don't see it in the viewer.  I usually edit my clips in the viewer and not on the canvas.  Can anyone explain why this might be happening and how I might fix.  I'm suspecting I must have messed up one of the settings but I'll be darned if I can figure out which one or how to fix.  Please help!

David.  Thank you very much.   The problem was not with the canvas but rather the Viewer.  But the solution was the same.  Somehow, the Viewer window was re-set to Alpha.  I changed it back to RGB.... and the picture is back.   These issues are often very simple.... but they can drive you bats if you don't know the answer.   Very grateful.  Tim

  • Cant see any video only white screens in Viewer and Canvas

I dont know if anyone has encountered this figured out how to resolve it yet. In FCP 7 on Snow Leopard when i drag a clip into viewer or try to edit in the Canvas all i see is a white screen. The title safe lines and wireframe show up when i turn these on and off, but no video. I occasionally get a solarized image in the Canvas. the time code progresses, but nothing in either window.
    Thanks for any insights.

Thanks for all the suggestions, including links back to earlier discussions. This did shed some light, (and kicked me to be more explicit), when reviewing an earlier question on the same issue, but stating that this happened on an external Dell 2408 monitor...which is what I am using to edit. When i open the MBP and remove the video miniport cable and try to play on the laptop display, all is well, I can see video in both Viewer and Canvas. When i plug the monitor back in and drag these windows over to the monitor (cant move the FCP application wholesale) they also play fine. When i close the MBP, wait and refire it up with mouse or keyboard...I see video in both, but when i play either one the image jumps back and forth, cycling from one frame and back...while the time code advances and the audio track does too.

  • Adobe Windows Fireworks CS5 opens to white screen

I had Adobe Creative Suite 5 Design Premium installed and working fine for over a year. All of a sudden today when I click the icon to open Fireworks it opens to a blank screen "white".
I can see my icons for Windows 7 at the bottom but nothing but a white screen. It appears Dreamweaver is doing the same. I tried uninstalling FW and re-install and the problem
    continues. Help

I checked the above article and it wasn't relevant to the problem stated at the beginning of this article, first off that person was using an iPad (there is no blue icon on the right side of the browser window on a computer) and 2nd, what is needed is preventing small images opening in full screen mode instead of the image loading in screen the same size as the image. The above article shows how to get in and out of full screen mode but that doesn't address the issue in the original post because the image is still placed on a too large screen. When the image is only 3x2 inches you don't need the page opening as large as a full size screen on a 27" monitor. When that happens you have to click on the tiny, miniscule, hardly attainable 1 pixel spot at the lower right corner of the screen and resize the page manually so it doesn't take up the whole screen so you can see the other documents. when you are opening multiple images this is very annoying.
I have trouble believing that Adobe techs haven't found a solution to this issue since Sept 2011 when the first post on this issue was posted above.

  • [solved] maximizing window results in white screen

hi, using xfce4 and gdm with nvidia driver (from Arch), 64 bit, using compiz
while in the GUI if i maximize a window, say Thunderbird, the app only shows a white screen. the window decorations are still there and i can restore it down and everything is fine, but when i maximize, white screen
not to post two problems in one thread, but im using emerald via compiz, but i would like to use gtk-window-decorator but if i change it, it does not stick. after a log out/log in it is changed back to emerald
i have tried different emerald themes and i still get the white screen. i think it only happens when the window is opened small to begin with. if it opens full screen i dont have that problem

  • Disk read error when booting Windows 7 / White screen / Screen frozen

    Hello,
I installed Windows 7 and Mac OSx on Dual boot.
    1) A problem arose when starting up. Sometimes the screen freezes after i have selected Windows 7 boot on BootCamp.
    2) Second problem, when booting the screen is white and doesn't change.
    3) Third problem, "Disk read error occured". This is the message that appears on the screen when booting Windows 7.
    4) Fourth problem, a blinking folder with a Question Mark on it.
    Please help with these problems.
    Thank you for your help.

Windows insists that its Partition Map be set up the Windows way. No exceptions. If you use anything other than BOOT CAMP (or Open Source REFIt) to do the partition setup, it will not work.
WARNING: If you allow Windows to Modify the partition Map directly, Windows will clobber Mac OS X so completely that will require a complete Mac OS X Re-Install. Windows in not a pleasant guest.
Be certain you are using the correct version of BOOT CAMP to match Your Mac OS X, and check for which versions of Windows are supported under it.

  • White screen on 27 in iMac when booting to 64 bit Windows 7

Recently installed 64bit Windows 7 on a 27 inch iMac w/i7 intel processor and 2g ATI Graphics card.  I was running Snow Leopard 10.6' I believe at the time. Worked fine for awhile but then starting having problems booting to windows. Will get on occasion, a white screen w/flickering bar I upper right hard corner. Have since upgraded to Lion.  Same problem. Have checked Windows windows updates. I have noticed that if I boot to windows from a shutdown position, I seem to have no problem getting windows. But if I restart the iMac from Lion to Windows, I get the white screen.  Ave not nailed this pattern down yet, but I did notice a difference lately. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

    AN IMPORTANT UPDATE!
I had turned off my virus protection and firewall, and was still unable to connect to the printer, or ping it.
I could successfully ping the printer from my router, so I turned the router off and back on, re-configured the wireless setup on the printer, and I am able to connect and print again!
Even though I could connect the printer to the router, and all of my computers were connected to the internet, something on the router was preventing me from connecting to the printer that was connected to the same network.
So I've learned that I have a printer that works fine, but I own a crappy router. Hopefully this can help someone else.
