White Screen on Satellite A665-S6086

I bought this laptop about a year ago.  About a month ago, the laptop screen started turning white for no reason, randomly. It could be in the middle of the laptop being used or at boot.
Does anyone know what problem this is? Is this the driver, or the display chip itself?  How do I fix this problem?
What so disappointing is how this happens while the laptop is still fairly new and not abused at all?  I did a search and found out there are other people having the same issue.  Is this a product quality issue?
I'm not going to spend hundreds of dollars sending it in to Toshiba repair center for repair, the warranty just expired a couple months ago.  I'd rather go buy another laptop, and I'm sure not to buy another Toshiba again.
YQuy

I had the same problem IN November 2011.  Toshiba had me reset to factory settings refusing to repair until December. I got it back right before the warranty expired.  They repaired video wire.  Two weeks after warranty was up it started again.  Now the computer is just about useless.  It is more whitescreen than functioning.  Any videos white screen it.  Startup, shut down, random.
I too must now either pay for something they supposedly fixed or buy a new computer which to me will also NOT be a Toshiba.

Some background, I recently had to replace the hard drive and re-install windows (windows 7 - 64bit) I have re-installed the Intel display driver and tried to re-install the HDMI control manager driver.  I kind of get the feeling the control manager doesn't install properly, it doesn't gvie me a completion message the way the other drivers did.

The order of driver installation matters. Best to restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media. All the drivers and utilities are properly preinstalled. Windows is preactivated.
If you failed to burn recovery discs, you can obtain them from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here.

  • Increasing Dedicated Video RAM? (Intel HD Graphics - Satellite A665-S6086)

My Satellite A665-S6086 Laptop uses Intel HD Graphics, and I wish to increase the dedicated video RAM.
Through dxdiag, it says I have 1696MB of Approximate Total Memory, but I only use 64Mb according to: http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/CYRI/analysis.aspx?name=The-Elder-Scrolls-V:-Skyrim&id=11231&se...
I went into the BIOS Setup -> Advanced, but was unable to find anything to alter the amount of Video RAM.
If anybody has a solution to this, please share it.
    Thanks,

...But you are not able to with the stock Toshiba motherboard....
Then you still cannot do it unless you replace the whole motherboard.

  • Satellite A665-S6086 screen is blank

The keyboard got wet but not liquid appears to have gotten to the main board it all stayed in the keyboard.  When I turn the PC on, I had a screen but now whenever I turn it on the screen is blank and nothing ever shows up.  I have disconnected the battery and power plug, but that doesn't help.  My question is, if the keyboard is toast, will the screen not turn on unless I replace the keyboard with a new one?

The keyboard and screen should not be related, except the spill could have done more damage than expected. Important things to do when you spill is to disconnect all power, including the AC power cord and the battery. Afterwards, tilt, turn and gently shake anything else off of the computer. Leave the computer in a warm room for a couple days and let it dry out.
The worst things to spill on your computer are soda, beer and those cappuccino/frappachino mocha grande things from those coffee shops.
Hook up an external monitor and keyboard to your computer and see if you can get video on the external monitor. You're going to need to replace the keyboard anyway, might as well let the tech see what's going on with the screen too. It might be something simple or something that will make you consider getting the computer replaced too. But you won't know if you don't get it checked out.

    Hello,
I'm having an issue w/ our Toshiba.A full restore fixed the issue for a while but it came back. I was updating various firefox plug-ins. After the problem started, I tried to uninstall the updates one by one, but nothing helped. Restoring it again as I type this...

Wild!  The videos are *much better than trying to explain that, lol.   Maybe it's the touchpad?   That cursor looks like it's tabbing around the screen so maybe there's a keyboard issue?  But take a look at this thread for touchpad issues.  Toshiba probably uses the same parts in a variety of models.  :-)

  • Toshiba A665-S6086 Wi-Fi & Audio Problems

    Hello,
I have a Toshiba A665-S6086 computer and I'm having issues with the Wi_Fi and Audio. When using the computer sometimes the Wi-Fi will randomly turn itself off, and I will get a message saying that that Hardware Radio Switch has been turned off. Well the problem is of course, it turning off by itself. Other times it will turn on and off in rapid succession and a loud ringing noise will follow until it has either shut itself off or the Wi-Fi reconnects. I have installed the latest drivers, checked for viruses/spyware. Cleaned the registry, and made sure it's not anything along those lines causing the problem. I have tried other fixes as well but I'm not the most tech savvy person around and nothing I do seems to work. Any insight or help with this matter would be appreciated.

You've installed the the latest drivers from where? If it was from Windows Update, or directly from the chipmakers, this may well be the source of your problems. You should only use the hardware drivers from your model's Toshiba download page.
Click on 'Start', type in  dev  , click on 'Device Manager', click on the arrow beside 'Network adapters', what is the exact name of your WiFi/Wireless device? Also, click on the arrow beside 'Sound, video and game controllers', what is the exact name of your audio/sound device (not HDMI)?

  • Satellite A60 - White Screen Freeze on Boot up

    Hi
My laptop Satellite A60-106 has developed some problem on boot up. It just freezes onto a white screen on boot up before I see any graphics. It looks as though it can access the DVD/CD drive but any attempt to boot up with a recovery disc fails in the same white screen and it freezes. I have tried the manufacturers advice as powering up with the F12 key pressed and another suggestion on the
CD to hold the C key down whilst turning on the power brings the same result.
Nothing but the white screen. I have tried F8 to see if I can get into safe mode but it won't move on past the initial clunking of the drives and then silence. I can't think of any way to get this to allow me to move on. I am sure you can though? I would be happy to format and reload but if I can't access the drive then how can I do that?
I wanted to increase the RAM but all of the suggestions in the hand book do not relate to the layout of my laptop. The small access window on the bottom of the laptop will not allow enough access to the RAM? Poking about around the RAM might have induced this white screen lock out?
    Thanks
    Charlie

    Hello Charlie
To be honest you have serious problem and I really do not believe you can solve it alone. It is not easy to say for sure why white display occurs at the boot up. In my opinion there can be several reasons responsible for this.
    - Display (display cable, LCD electronic)
    - as far as I know white screen occurs if FL inverter makes background light but there is no display signal it can be some defect on mainboard and there is no video signal
The best thing you can do is to contact authorized service provider. Let them check your notebook. They have special tools and there is no problem to find out why this happen.
    Bye

  • Satellite C850 boots to white screen

I bought a Toshiba Satellite C850 PSCBWA-05E001 18 months ago so out of warranty now.
I bought it for some friends I gave it to who are in the Philippines so it's difficult for me to check and repair. My friends are lacking funds to get it checked so any help would be appreciated.
A few days it started booting to a white screen. You can just see the mouse cursor but that's all. They cant make the computer display anything. I've read on a number of forums that it could be a loose video cable however I got them to hooked up a working external monitor via the laptop's VGA output & rebooted the laptop & the external monitor goes straight to white screen also so thats seems to rule out a faulty video cable as that would affect the laptop monitor only I think.
I'm concerned the video card has failed which being an integregrated graphics chip I assume means replacing the whole motherboard I assume.
Pretty dissapointed for my friends since the machine is only just out of warranty.
    Has anyone got any ideas?

    >I'm concerned the video card has failed which being an integregrated graphics chip I assume means replacing the whole motherboard I assume.
Yes, Im afraid the motherboard has to be replaced in case of graphic card malfunction.
This would be the worst case since new motherboard is very expensive and in most cases its not worth to purchase a new motherboard if warranty isnt valid anymore.
I have no many solutions for you; it looks like a hardware problem and to solve such issue, the faulty part needs to be replaced. But of course, its a simply a question of money :(

  • White screen when I turn the Satellite M50 on

I intermittently just get a white screen when I turn the computer on. Usually the problem is solved by switching the computer off and trying again - but sometimes I get a white screen again.
It seems to be connected to use of external devices - can anyone give me clear instructions about what should/should not be connected when I start and shut down the computer? Or any other suggested solutions?
    Thanks

Thanks for your reply/advice - and the tip about Antivir. I used to use AVG and then Norton came as a package with this laptop....will have a re-think when my subscription need renewing.
I have updated the display/graphics driver but am still having the same problem of a white screen at boot-up. On reflection I think it is possibly a loose connection as I have just been a long trip with the laptop - including a fairly bumpy 4 hour bus ride - and I recall having the same problem several months ago which self-corrected after a similar trip (taking it down to a Toshiba ASP who never saw it as they were closed for the week-end and I had to get back to work!). This may sound strange but I took the laptop for a walk yesterday to see if any loose connection would shift and it then booted up on the second attempt rather than the 8th!
I guess I'll have to take it to the ASP - unfortunately it's no longer under warranty.
    EDIT:
Problem solved. High temperature caused this issue

  • Satellite A350 - White Screen Of Death

    Hi
I recently broke my screen in a temper tantrum and sent it in to Toshiba repair.
They replaced my screen. That was about a month ago.
I installed windows 7 3-4 days ago and it worked fine.
I opened my laptop one night to discover a blank white screen.
After turning it off and on, taking the battery out and in, the white screen still remained, then it randomly appeared with system restore options
I restored the system and applied a microsoft hotfix to counteract the supposed windows 7 error. it did not work.
The white screen appears when i put the laptop to sleep (shut the laptop) or shut it down.
The screen appeared again yesterday and i left it overnight hoping it would change.
My sister pulled out and put back in the battery and a screen appeared asking how you would like to start windows.
I started windows then reinstalled Windows Vista using a mirosoft setup disc.
After installing AVG antivirus it told me to restart.
I restarted the laptop and instead of the toshiba logo appearing the white screen of death appeared.
It stayed for 10-20 seconds then my laptop started.
I looked at this article (http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2008/04/13/laptop-lcd-screen-turned-white/) and it suggested the screen may have problems. Should i send it back in to Toshiba?
    Can someone supply further diagnosis?
    My specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P7450
    2.13ghz
    4.00GB RAM
    32 bit OS
So basically i have a random white screen when i restart, turn on or bring the laptop back from sleeping. whether it recovers is a strange thing with many factors. i don't think its my OS because it happens on Vista and Windows 7
please help as much as you can. i don't wan't to take it in for repair as it may cost money

The screen has a 2 month warranty from the repair and the laptop still has half a year of general warranty. when the white screen appears i tried using HDMI to connect it to a TV and there was no change. Could it be due to the fact i upgraded to Windows 7? if so will they still charge me? is there any test i can do to check if it is a Hardware issue or a screen problem?
i shut the laptop for a while yesterday and my brother opened it to see the white screen. i grabbed the right side of the screen and pushed it back and the logon screen came up. what would that suggest?
    thanks for the help

  • Satellite M40X white screen appears

    Hello,
I am an advanced pc user and have used this Toshiba as my main computer for about 1.5years now. Today while in Windows XP I was extracting some files for school and I looked up @ the tv (was watching tv at the time, had the laptop on my lap well ventilated) and back down to the laptop and all I saw was this white screen and the hard drive activity / processor light was on constantly.
I put the hard drive area up to my ear and I didn't hear it vigorously writing to the drive so I figured it was the cpu doing something weird or windows acting up. So I turned it off by holding the power button for 7 seconds. I waited about a minute and turned it back on. To my surprise the white screen stayed. It was as if it wasn't even posting (to the bios..).
I have a password on it to make it harder for anyone who would steal it to get in. I entered it and hit enter thinking it was just some malfunction that I would have to live with, waited a bit, nothing. I didn't even get to the grub loader.. The hard drive had no activity; the light wasn't on as it usually is when Ubuntu or Xp boot up...
I looked a diagram on Toshiba's Canadian site (couldn't find a canadian signup page here so I signed up as a uk user..) and it said to type FN+F5 which I knew wouldn't work because I couldn't get any output on an external screen.
It didn't. I have taken out the battery and plugged it directly in to the charger. No change, taken out the hard drive; no change there either. I am going to leave the battery out for the rest of the night, but I don't think it will make a difference... I just put the battery back in as its been out for a good 40minutes now and no change..
My only guess is the gfx card finally went. It's got the Intel GMA900 or 950 (can't remember).
Anyone have any other theories? If so is it worth spending the money to fix it or should I just get all my data off of it and move on?
Thanks in advance for your help, JoeM

    Hey Joe..
They've changed the screen and the mother board... Now they tell me that my warranty has expired and I will have to pay for the repairs. I told them I bought this laptop under the good name of Toshiba, and that I hardly have used this product.
I asked them to refund or give me a discount on another product. I also said that I'm not going pay to repair it since they're repairs under warranty seem to be temporary at best. I know it doesn't hold much power to them but I belong to an organization that regularly purchases computers and laptops.

  • Satellite C650D-007 starts with blank white screen

    Hi everyone,
I need urgent help, I bought this new laptop 3 weeks ago from Futureshop.ca and now today, i pressed the power button to turn it on and when it does i get this blank white screen.
I even tried removing the batterie and hooking up the AC direct and it still produced the same thing.
I can't believe after only 3 weeks it stopped working.
PS: it does power on. just a white blank screen. no logo nothing.
    thanks in advance.

    Hi
I think Dr.Lamp is right it looks like a hardware issue
The notebook is covered by warranty so either you will get in contact with an Toshiba ASP in your country and will ask for fix or you will check this with the dealer and maybe you could get a new notebook.
However, I think such hardware problems can happen always you had simply a bad luck I bought a notebook from other manufacture for my father the notebook died after 3 days of usage :(
I contacted the dealer and got a replacement.

  • Satellite A665-S6080 Shuts Down During Flash Videos

I have a Satellite A665-S6080 laptop with Windows 7 64x which I've had for 3 years now. For a year now it will shut down when I am using a video converter program ie: Leavino Video Converter, Win AVI All In One. I would take a video I have on my computer and try to convert it to another format and about 10 minutes in the converting stage, my laptop will just shut down. It doesn't matter what converting software I use, It will shut down. If the video is small (under 500 MB) I might not shut down. I've tried to convert 1.5 GB video and my laptop would shut down.  If I play flash videos online it might shut down as well. Also when I play Candy Crush online it has shut down as well.
I've heard people mention that the problem could be a bad power switch, however, my problem seems to be video related. Has anyone had this problem like mine? Any suggestions on fixing the problem? Thanks.
If any other info is needed please let me know.

See this post for flash player issue : http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Video-Display/Youtube-question-Try-to-run-full-screen-and-just-get-a-bl...
Video converting is very hardware intensive and your laptop can get to hot and shut down.
Do you use a cooling pad and does your vents and fan need cleaned? I ask that because you stated that it has only shut down for the last year and mainly when converting video files.(flash issue already noted above)
