White screen (reset doesn't fix, restore doesn't fix, no logo at boot)

Hi guys,
Wondering if anyone can help me with this issue. I've read a bit about the iphone's "white screen of death", which, according to forum posts, can usually be fixed by a hard reset or an iTunes restore. My iPhone 3G also shows just a white screen but neither a hard reset nor a full restore has fixed it.
I can connect my phone to iTunes and I can happily read all my data. iTunes had no problem restoring the phone and I upgraded to the latest firmware. I can even interact with the phone by touching the screen (e.g. I hear the unlock click when I slide my finger along the bottom of the screen) but the screen remains white. It seems the phone is "there", but the screen is just completely useless. I haven't seen anything other than the white screen since this issue arose yesterday, not even the logo during reset or during restore.
Can anyone help or recommend a solution?
Cheers,
Alex

  • White screen of death, unable to restore

OK, as the topic states I have the dreaded white screen of death on my G5 iPod video. I had a Powerbook problem that required me to reload all of my software and when I did, I inadvertantly updated iTunes and therefore also updated my iPod. I have always heard to avoid the updates since they may cause glitches and now I'll be much more careful in the future.
I have tried everything I can find on this site and others. I tried the simple reset about 100 times and also putting the iPod into disk mode. When resetting the Apple never appears BTW. In disk mode I can finally see it in iTunes (and on my desktop) but I get the 1418 (?) error when trying to restore. I am unable to erase/restore with disk utility. I can see my iPod under Disk Utility (the size/name/etc) but anytime I try to do anything with it I get an error. I never formatted it for Windows so I can't try those methods. I've tried every combo of button presses, unplugging/reconnecting part way through restore, deleteing iPod updater files, letting the battery drain for several days. Nothing works. White screen resets back to white screen. Or white screen (menu/select) to (select/play) for disk mode which is a dim white screen (kinda gray). BTW....it's out of warranty and the local Apple Store doesn't seem interested in helping me.
Any tips for me before I toss it in the trash and buy a Nano?

    Fixed! Thanks for nothin....

  • I'm getting a white screen on my iPod . How do I fix it?

I'm getting a white screen on my iPod . How do I fix it?

This could be the result of a few different things.  A damaged LCD screen, corruption in the iPod's software, or a loose LCD ribbon cable.  If a restore of the iPod in iTunes does not take care of the issue, then the iPod likely needs to be serviced.

  • HT1414 I have a white screen and have done a restore twice any suggestions

I have a white screen and have done a restore twice any suggestions?

If restoring as new (without using a backup) didn't help, the phone has a major hardware failure.  Take it to Apple or whoever provides iPhone service in your country.

    Hey Candyharper,
Thanks for the question. The following article outlines troubleshooting steps for the symptoms you described:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
    Display shows a white screen
    1. Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
    2. If the iPhone will not turn off, try to reset it.
    3. If that doesn't work, try restoring the device.
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
    - Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
    - Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion.
    Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
    - Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
    - After at least 15 minutes, if:
                   - The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
                   - The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
                   - Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
    - If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
                   - If the display turns on, go to step 4.
                   - If the display remains black, go to next step.
    - Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to
restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
    - If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?
    Contact Apple Support.
    Thanks,

  • Glowing white screen, reset not working

my IPod touch won't respond to anything, I have browsed thru lots of help pages but nothing works.  I have a white glowing screen on my ipod touch and it won't hard reset, it won't connect to itunes on my computer, nothing happens or works.  what do I do now?  is it broken?

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • Ipod has only white screen. reset

Ipod (4th gen) just went blank/white screen. Pressed menu & center and apple logo appears and was able to reset. Used after few minutes, screen when blank again. Able to reset & resync many times and can hear music but still white screen being displayed.

You could always try to restore the iPod. If that doesn't resolve the problem you'll have to have the iPod serviced.

  • HT201263 My ipad will not show the recovery mode, it goes into DFU mode just fine, but whenever I put it in recovery mode I get nothing but a blank white screen. After doing a restore or update itunes gives me error 37. This all happened due to a failed u

I updated from ios 5.0.1 to 5.1. Midway through the update itunes crashed. I got it all working again and ever since I have been stuck in a recovery loop. DFU mode works fine, but when I go into recovery mode (yes I am doing it right, yes I have tried pwning, tinyumbrella, etc.) it still just gives me a white screen (I am not getting the plug arrow and itunes icon screen that shows up when you are in recovery mode). I am a huge fan of hacking, mods, and jbs, BUT have never done any on the iPad, (found it pointless).. nevertheless, I am stuck thanks to apple in a white screen and a nonworking iPad. If anyone has any ideas that does not include jbs, updating, restoring, restoring with internet off, restoring in DFU, I would gladly appreciate it. I would take it to the apple store but it was a friends and I didn't purchase it. My friend had the issue formerly and they had no idea what to do at apple (they usually try DFU, restore, and then have nothing else to tell you.

There's a whole lot to read in your post, and frankly I have not read it all.
Having said that, this troubleshooting guide should help:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
In particular, pay attention to the mobile device support sections near the bottom, assuming you have already done the items above it.

Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears (ignore the Slide to Power Off that shows up first).

  • My iMac doesn't load past the start up white screen and doesn't reach the login screen.

I'm having issues trying to load my iMac up after i had to to shut it down the other day. when i start it up it makes the chirme
and reaches the white screen with the loading symbol but doesn't move on from there! Doesn't anyone know how to fix this to get to the login screen?

    Reinstall Lion.
    Reinstalling Lion
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • Mac Mini blank white screen. Did Cmd+R reprograms but doesn't leave the white screen!!

Mac Mini blank white screen. Did Cmd+R  but doesn't leave the white screen! I tried Cmd+Option+R, this allows reprogramming but after 34 or so minutes it remains in the white screen! Any ideas?

Unfortunately, the white screen will not go away! Therefore, I do not have the option to the Disk Utility!! I wish I could! I would have already erased the disk and reinstalled the OS. Side note here is that an Apple Fan told me that she and her husband had a similar scenario with a new iMac!! Turned out (after 3 attempts by Apple Techs to fix) to have to replace it! They related to me that there was an issue with the connections between the Logic Board and the Hard Drive! The hard drive got burnt out and so did the Logic board on different occasions. I have been a PC user for years until I got tired of all the maintenance and wanted to try Mac. So many thrilled fans claiming they never get issues as often as a PC. Well, here I am six weeks after buying the Mac Mini having issues...I guess a machine is a machine, is a machine! I was thrilled with the Lion OS and all the interaction I was having with it! I truly thought that this was a highly superior computer. I expected quality control to have equally a superiority that one would expect from an Apple product. It could be that this unit is a lemon! It happens! Because I also have iPad and iPhone that have given me the best performance ever!! So I hope that I will someday see the same from this Mac Mini that is just over 40 days old!
If you know another way to get thru the white screen to get to the Disk Utility...I would love to try it. In any case, I am waiting for a call back to confirm an appointment date and time to visit a Mac store for repair.

  • TS3694 white screen continues to stay on after reset and after pressing and hold BOTH buttons (top left and mid bottom front screen bottom button)...in restoring on itunes error message "2009" shows after trying to connect to itunes...any help?

error message "2009"  and white screen reset fail...what to do??????????...please dont tell me about pressing the 2 bottons at the same time....did that n it DID NOT work in my case.

    Error 2000-2009 (2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, and so on)
If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software.

  • Blank white screen on iTunes store on a mac - how to fix?

    Hi
I'm having an issue with my iTunes store on the latest version of iTunes on my PowerMac (10.6.8). When I try to load the store all I get is an empty white screen. Even searching for items doesn't get any result. I can see the load bar in the top window switching over to iTunes store, but when it reaches the end - nothing.
I've updated all my software, restarted, checked my network connection etc, but nothing has fixed it.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

I just spent a long time at the Genius Bar trying to figure this out. What finally worked was updating Safari (because iTunes is part of the web browser). So try that.
