White screen, Tried everything.

My 80gb classic is showing me a white screen. We have tried everything from Restoring, to formating it, to defraging it. Nothing is working and I need it fixed. It still plays music and scrolls around, but its completely blank and white.

It is probably a faulty screen, you may need to replace the screen.

  • Macbook won't load past white screen, tried everything.

    Hi all,
I've tried everything I've come across to get my Macbook running again. Tried booting into safe mode, didnt work, tried fixing using fsck in single-user mode, fsck said it worked but still wouldn't boot! Even tried verbose mode but came across disk0s2 I/O error.
Can anyone help me out, it loads up to the white screen with the grey apple logo and the loading wheel goes round and round but goes no where.
Working on Mac OS X but forget exactly which one.

Hi, I had a similar problem a couple of years ago, the problem ended up being my hard drive had crashed on my macbook. You should take it to your nearest Genius Bar, they will check and see if thats the problem for free, fixing however if it is that can get expensive, of course thats according to a very poor college student, It was about 220 or so. but if you do find out its the HDD you could always just go buy one and instal it yourself, I hear it not that hard to do acutally. Good luck!

  • IPod struck on white screen, tried everything

    Hi,
I have a 5th gereration iPod struck on the white screen. I've seen many posts with people having the same issue.
I never see the Apple logo, it doesn't seem to play any song, I can get it to be recognized by iTunes.
I've tried everything I could think of :
    - followed the step of http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24040?viewlocale=en_US
    - Reset (menu + center) dozen of times.
    - Reset (menu + center) dozen of times + disk mode (center+play)
    - Restore under OS X, restore under Windows (the firmware is 1.3)
    - unmounted to check if any wires were disconnected, was fine
    - Installed Rockbox
None of those allowed me to play music (or get acces to the iPod)
    Any ideas ?

  • White screen tried to reset but it keeps coming up battery is low but been charging and nothing

white screen tried to reset it but it keeps coming up low battery but have been charging it...anyone help

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    Maybe here too:

    - See:

    - Try another cable
    - Try another charging source

  • White Screen , Tried Hard Reset / Restore.

I opened my ipod touch but after i put it back i got a white screen and i tried everything from hard reset to restoring the ipod. please help. i never tried draining the battery but i am not sure how to do that with the screen white. Please HELP!!!
BTW i also tried the volume up+home + power button method. after all those reset, restore, methods i always get a black screen. Never a Apple Logo.
    PLEASE HELP !!!

If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • IMac really stuck at grey screen - tried everything

    Hi,
everytime I try to boot my iMac it gets stuck at the first grey screen. No logo, no loader, nothing but a grey screen.
I have tried everything here > http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570 > with no results. The grey screen remains there, with no changes.
The only thing that seems to work, but only for a seconds, is holding the option (alt) key at startup. After a few seconds, the pointer of the mouse appears. And then, a few seconds later, it gets stuck too. That's the farthest I've managed to get.
I can insert and get install DVDs back, but they don't seem to load.
I've tried also DiskWarrior, with the same results.
    Any ideas?

Hey jflam sorry to hear that. I know how frustrating that can be. One thing that the article doesn't mention that I'd try is repairing the disk from single user mode.
Boot to single user mode by holding down command-S at startup.
-If it works right it should take you to a black screen w/ white letters.
-Then just follow the steps in from this website. http://homepage.mac.com/geerlingguy/mac_support/mac_help/pages/0009-fsck_su_disk _repair.html
-Make sure if it tells you the disk has been modified that you repeat the command.
-If it says it's ok or if you can't boot to single user mode then it sounds like a hardware problem. You'd have to take the computer into an Apple Retail Store or Authorized Apple Service Provider to get your options on how to fix it.
    Best of luck!

  • IMac G5 - boots up to blue screen - tried everything

I have an iMac G5 (no iSight) 2GHz. Came across following problem (running MacOs 10.4.11):
    - Normal boot: Mac goes through normal start up, but never gets beyond the blue screen - i.e. just before log in.
    - Safe boot: boots up OK & can log in.
Up to this point, has been working fine for however long I have had it (maybe 3 years, I think).
I have trawled through the various sites and tried everything, including:
    - Resetting PRAM
    - Resetting SMU
    - Disk Utility - repair permissions (some problems, now fixed)
    - Disk Utility - repair disk (no problems)
    - Apple Hardware Test from install disk 1 (no problems)
    - Re-formatting disk & re-installing Mac OS from install disks (MacOs 10.4)
None of the above has fixed the problem - in normal boot it stops at blue screen, and if safe boot it gets through OK & works fine.
Next stop is the local Mac repair shop. But before I head off there, I wondered if anyone here could suggest anything.
The following link has three docs - full system profile, console log for unsuccessful boot (i.e. to blue screen) and console log for successful boot (safe mode):

    Thanks in advance
    R.

my powermac is doing the exact same thing, did you ever find out what the issue was?
    Thanks,

thanks for the comprehensive info. i experienced this for the first time today. i bought my macbook the day they were released. the shutdown happenned for me after leaving my computer on overnight with no programs running. about two minutes into web browsing it shutdown. it then shutdown in the middle of restarts. i disattached power cord, external hard drive, dvd burner & ethernet & it powered up and has been working for about 20 minutes since.
this computer has really been a lemon. first my superdrive scratches the **** (just previewed this, i can't believe they sensor the h_ word?) out of discs, then the trackpad button becomes very hard to push. i've been working around those issues using an external dvd burner and mouse, but not sure how to work around sudden shutdowns. i haven't been able to send it in for repairs yet since i bought it cause i needed it's dvd authoring capabilities for a class i was taking, plus i wanted to make sure nothing else went wrong (self fulfilling prophecy?). i was planning on taking it on vacation with me, but guess i better pack my old ibook too (which other than a cd burner which sucked from the start, has been very reliable). i'll send in my macbook when i get back.
anyway, thanks for the info & advice! i'll back up my crucial data now.

  • Black Screen - Tried Everything. Broken?

I put my intel iMac to sleep last night. This morning, I go to wake it up, and it makes all the right sounds, but nothing displays on the screen. It is pitch black.
I've tried rebooting, clearing the PRAM, booting into the restore DVD and completely powering the iMac off and then back on. Nothing has worked, the screen is still pitch black.
Is it safe to say that it is broken and I need to get my iMac serviced?
    Thanks.

    hi,
i experienced the black screen today on my 24" imac
i tried everything and while searching i found this thread.
well, i put the imac into target disk mode and connected my ibook... unfortunately, i don't have the capacity to backup my data but was nice to see my files/folders.
i disconnected the imac and left it powered on.
a few minutes later the firewire screen saver was being displayed on my imac's screen!!!
i turned it off and powered it up again with no problems.
we had to leave so i powered off the imac and when i returned, over a hour later, and powered it up - no joy.
so, back to target disk mode and waited for the firewire screen saver to kick in.
once the screen saver kicked in i turned off and powered up again.
i'm writing this while i'm backing up my files/folders to an external drive!!!
    i hope this helps someone.
i plan to reinstall the OS from scratch and go from there... i had been downloading installing software the last few days so i'm hoping for some kind of software conflict.
if it continues i'll bring it in for repair.
    applecare anyone - lol????

  • My mac will turn on but it wont load.It just sits there on the white screen trying to load. What can I do?

My Mac will turn on but doesn't load. Its sits on the white apple screen trying to load. Is there anything ican do to fix it?

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • Black Screen - Tried Everything

I have a black screen, you've encountered these before, I know that. I have tried to reset firmware, reset PRAM, unplug everything and hold power button for 5 seconds, then replug everything in. I've tried everything, and I'm proficent in Macs, but not really in Darwin or Terminal. If it helps, I fsck -f the disc to delete a stubborn help file in a Photoshop trial, which was the last time I restarted. I held off on the SMF update, because I didn't show any examples of it happening, until today. So, nothing has worked, and I need all this data. Thanks for all the help.
If there is anything else I can try, by all means, do tell.
Also, if I need to ship it off or bring it somewhere, will I have to do it after the holidays?
    Thanks again.
Oh, I don't here a chime, and I need to use a credit card to eject the firmware disc.

Only other thing I could suggest is re-seating the ram - may not help but it's worth a try. As for the holidays I'd give them a call before just to see what the wait may be like ...I'm sure it varies from place to place.
Does holding the trackpad down eject the disc?

  • Itunes Store and App Store on IMAC show white sreen, tried everything

    Anybody know the answer?

Anybody? I would be REALY Greatfull

I am having a similar issue.I have an Iphone 4s and I have tried to reset, I have logged out and back in, and I have reset several times. Each time I have lost all settings and I am starting to regret ever updating. The Itunes store works, but each time I reset, the search icon works for a few minutes the quits. I have set the cookies to all 3 different settings but to no avail.I guess if I want to search something on the Itunes store, I'm going to have to reset each time.I should have just stayed with the old IOS
