White screen when iPod 5G starts up

I updated the software on my iPod today whilst downloading the Mac OS 10.4.4 update/QuickTime update/iTunes update etc... It was working perfectly before I updated it. Now it just starts up with a blank white screen. I've tried resetting it a couple of times, restarting my computer whilst it is connected. I've left it until it powers down again and tried reseting the iPod. I've also tried plugging it into the computer when it's powered down, and my iPod makes a few bleeps before going to a back white screen.
Any ideas?

I have fixed my iPod blank/black screen problem (i suspect black screen for iPod5G black model, and white screen for the white model) On Black Friday, which was yesterday, after I upgraded the newest releases on QT/iTunes602/osx1044/iPod11, iPod didnt do anything, no mounting to my iBook/iMac/G5PwrMac. Hard reset didnt work, etc.
I decided to fix the iMac permission with local drive DiskUtility, then reboot the iMac with the Original Tiger iMac DVD software restor disc which comes with the desktop then repair the volume with this method. Then I reboot and then I did an extended hardware test with the same disc, but with the Hardware test disk (which is the same as software restore DVD, iinstead of holding down the c key, hold down the option key when reboot with the disc)
After all that, iMac restarted and recognize my 5G iPod 60GB, I quickly restore the whole iPod to manufacture setting, hopefully you have all the info backed up somewhere, I did a clean defractmentation, and then used the iPodUpdater from 11-17-2005 to restore the iPod 1.0 version.
Now I am done and my iPod works like new. Go try it guys... Good luck!

    Hello all,
I have a 14.88G iPod Nano that I currently use as my primary watch. A week or so ago I started to experience a blank white screen when I press the "sleep/wake" button instead of the watch face (I have it set to wake from sleep to display the clock). When I hard reset it, it will come back fine and the screen will respond and work as normal, as soon as I manually put it to sleep by pressing the "sleep/wake" button and then try to wake it the same thing happens and I have a blank white screen that doesn't respond to touch gestures or anything.
What I have tried so far to no avail:
Numerous hard restarts (holding the "sleep/wake" button with the volume - button).
Tried this: iPod nano (6th generation): Hardware troubleshooting
Changed the watch face to display.
Recharged the device overnight (without full discharge).
Since none of this works I'm out of ideas. Eventhough I have a 6G Nano it should no longer be under warranty since I was sent it as a replacement for a different (older) product.
Any ideas? Is this a known problem? Thanks in advance for any insight any of you could provide. Also, what time is it??
    Regards,

    Hey,
I have the exact same problem as you have described. I also used my ipod as a watch but starting from today, whenever I unlock it the screen turns white until a reset is done. Even a factory reset through itunes didn't fix it.
    Have you found any solution?
    Bah, this is annoying.

I have a bright white screen when turning on my nano 7th gen. Have tried resetting and restoring settings - no change. Any ideas please?

    Hello pipworms,
I would be concerned too if my iPod nano's was just showing a white screen.  I recommend following the steps below:
    Display shows a white screen
Try putting the iPod into disk mode:
Reset the device (Reset the device by pressing the Sleep and Home buttons simultaneously until the display shows the Apple logo. This should take about eight seconds).
When the Apple logo appears, press and hold the Volume Down and Volume Up buttons simultaneously until the device enters Disk Mode.
While the device is in disk mode, sync it to iTunes and try to restore.
I got this information from the following article for the 6th generation iPod nano.  The steps are the same, except I updated the reset steps with the reset for the 7th generation iPod nano:

  • White screen when playing back .mov files in QT.

I have two different .mov files created using an older version of QT (7.0.3, I think). The content is the same on both, but one has a bitrate of 750k and the other has a bit rate of 1200k. The one with 750k still plays just fine, but the other only gives me a white screen.
The problem started when I upgraded to 7.1.5, and I can't find the old installer for 7.0.3. Can anyone help?
    Trond

Thank you very much for trying to figure this out. I have noticed that a lot of people have had the same problem. I have tried to change pretty much all settings on the different computers at work and even taken the files home to try them out on my Mac and also on my PC. Both have QT pro. But still the same problem.
I have now uploaded screenshots of both files' info pages, just ot make sure I'm looking at the correct thing. They are uploaded to

  • White screen when I turn the Satellite M50 on

I intermittently just get a white screen when I turn the computer on. Usually the problem is solved by switching the computer off and trying again - but sometimes I get a white screen again.
It seems to be connected to use of external devices - can anyone give me clear instructions about what should/should not be connected when I start and shut down the computer? Or any other suggested solutions?
    Thanks

Thanks for your reply/advice - and the tip about Antivir. I used to use AVG and then Norton came as a package with this laptop....will have a re-think when my subscription need renewing.
I have updated the display/graphics driver but am still having the same problem of a white screen at boot-up. On reflection I think it is possibly a loose connection as I have just been a long trip with the laptop - including a fairly bumpy 4 hour bus ride - and I recall having the same problem several months ago which self-corrected after a similar trip (taking it down to a Toshiba ASP who never saw it as they were closed for the week-end and I had to get back to work!). This may sound strange but I took the laptop for a walk yesterday to see if any loose connection would shift and it then booted up on the second attempt rather than the 8th!
I guess I'll have to take it to the ASP - unfortunately it's no longer under warranty.
    EDIT:
Problem solved. High temperature caused this issue

  • I get a white screen when I try to enter iTunes Store

I get a white screen when i enter the iTunes store. The toolbar on the left is OK. The top is OK. It doesn't crash or anything, and I am logged in when I do it.

If you're seeing a blank iTunes Store, you could try resetting Winsock. That's fixed the problem for some people.
Click on your Start menu, go to accessories, and click the Command Prompt icon. Once it opens, type in the following command...
    netsh winsock reset
Press Enter and it should say something like "winsock reset successful:
Then reboot your computer and try the iTunes Store again.
    Hope this helps.

  • 20" Imac has white screen and freezes at start-up

my 20" imac will not start....help...All I get is a white screen and tone at start-up then it stays white. I tried hooking up a bootable firewire drive and pressing the alt/option key at start up nothing. I also tried the command/option/p/r at start up, it will reboot to the same screen. I also tried running the hardware diagnostics at start-up...no response. Computer was purchased on Nov .4 2007, warrenty just expired.
    Help......Please....

I had the exact same problem today. My iMac 20" (iMac 8,1) would't boot any more, staying stuck on a white screen immediately after the normal start-up chime. Nothing worked (no safe mode, no DVD boot, no disk selection icon when starting with alt pressed, no Apple hardware test, no parameter RAM reset, power management chip reset had no effect, no verbose mode, not even open firmware).
I browsed the forums, but what I found didn't help, so I was about to stop trying and have it fixed by Apple. But my son told me he had noticed that after "a long time" (he's 4...), a folder with a flashing ? would appear. I figured that wouldn't happen in case of a severe hardware failure, so I tried one last thing: I hooked up an old PowerBook in target disk mode via Firewire and restarted the iMac. I tried several times (with and without alt pressed), but nothing happened (when pressing alt, a functional mouse pointer would appear, though).
Then I restarted a last time and left the iMac sit there on its white screen for about 20 minutes... and that's when the miracle happened: it finally booted off the target-disk mode PowerBook's system!
I ran Disk Utility, which saw the iMac internal HD as disk2s0 (or something like that), and launched the disk repair process. After about three error-ridden verify-repair cycles, the green ok message finally appeared and the volume mounted as if nothing had happened. I rebooted off the internal disk without a glitch, and I still have to find damaged or lost files.
I guess I was lucky that my HD problem was benign enough to be cured by Disk Utility. But even if that had not been the case, at least I'd have known that the HD failed, and maybe I could have saved some files using recovery software. Whatever the case, if you've got an external bootable drive, it's definitely worth trying before handing your iMac over for (usually horribly expensive) repairs.
    Good luck!
