White screen with beeping sound

When I turned on my computer, the screen never get to the log in page.  It was white with beeping sound.  I took out the battery and reset it and it did not help. Is there anything else I can do?

  • HDV crashes/comes up as white screen with only sound when exported.

Hi I have been searching all throughout the forums for an answer to my problem but seem to find no clear solution. I edit everything into an HDV1080i60 timeline in Final Cut Pro 5 and then I try to export, whenever I export with Quicktime Conversion, Final Cut Pro crashes midway through. When I export with Quicktime Movie at 1080i60, the file comes out but when played is a blank white screen with sound only.
Every export setting has failed EXCEPT Uncompressed 8 bit NTSC. The video does come out good but the file sizes are enormous because it is uncompressed.
Is there any solution to this problem, I don't understand why its happening now, about one month ago everything was working great. I have downgraded to quicktime 7.3.1 yet still no results.
Any help would be much appreciated.

something between then and now has thrown a large spanner in the works
the fact that Quicktime Player is not seeing the HDV codec and yet FCP is able to work in that codec is a clear indication of the issue
starting with the least extreme and easiest solutions:
Use Disk Utility app to repair permissions on your system disc, see if that helped
Create a new user account and see if it all works better in that new account
Boot from your OS install discs and use Disk Utility app to repair your system disc, see if that helped
Uninstall and then reinstall Final Cut Studio (repair permissions again after the reinstall)
... probably best solution though is a complete clean reinstall of both OS and applications
    hope it helps

  • System stuck on white screen and beeping sounds

Power button turns screen from black to white and computer starts making intermittent beeping sounds. Tried SMU reset, hard reset, disconnecting cables but the problem stays the same. Any other suggestions.

I had a similar problem on my 24" iMac purchased Dec 07. It was OK from a cold boot, but would go to the white screen and 3 beeps on any reboot. If I held down the Option key I could select the only disk and it would boot OK. I tried detaching all external disks - no change, ran HW diagnostics, - showed no problems. Ran disk verify/repair from CD, no errors. System info showed no problems with POST or the DIMMs.
    I first re-seated both 1Gb DIMMs - no change.
Swapped the DIMMs into opposite slots - no change.
I removed one, fixed the problem.
I put in the suspect one by itself - problem returned.
This is original RAM that came with the system, trying to get the suspect DIMM replaced now, but system is OK for the moment on 1GB.

  • White Screen with good sound

I have a movie file which consists of a movie file, video file, and a audio file. When I open the movie file, the audio plays fine but the video is white. The video is DVCPRO HD (720p60) which is the same as the other videos I have in the same style that work fine. HELP! thanks.

    i have this same problem.
the video is a white screen but audio is fine.
it tells me there is 'missing software.'
    it is encoded with HDV720/60p.
i'm using quicktime 7.1.3, which i thought might be the problem, but the exporter uses the same version.
does anyone know what to do about this?
i need to score a video, but i can't see it!
    thank you.

  • 7th generation ipod nano only displaying white screen with blue horizontal lines

    Hi,
My 7th generation ipod nano is now only displaying a white screen with blue horizontal lines along the bottom. It still plays music and is recognised in itunes with I connect it to my PC.
I have reset is and restored it and it is charged.
    Please advise.
    Thanks,

    Hi jkjuarez2012,
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like your iPod nano is only showing the Apple logo with a white background, and you've tried many good steps including resetting and restoring the device. I know I'd miss my music in this situation.
Make sure that you followed the steps in this article when restoring your iPod:
Restoring iPod to factory settings - Apple Support
If the issue continues after restoring, your iPod nano may need to be serviced. You can use this link to find out more about iPod service:
If the issue is still not resolved, please read this information on servicing your iPod.

  • White screen with file folder with question mark flashing?

My iMac wont start. I get a white screen with a file folder. In the file folder is a ?, flashing.

What operating system do you use? If you use Lion, boot in recovery mode (Command and R buttons) and open Disk Utility to see if your hard drive is detected, and if it's detected, click "Verify Disk". If you use Snow Leopard or early, boot from your install DVD, click "Utilities" and open Disk Utility to do the same as for Lion. It sounds like your Mac doesn't have a bootable device, so it could be a lot of things (hard drive broken or formatted, hardware error, etc.). If this doesn't work, reinstall your operating system

  • Computer doesn't boot, stuck in white screen with Apple logo

I got a friend that has a MacBook 2.0GHz, Black. The computer had some sort of problem so he took out the HD and placed it into another computer (MacBook 2.2GHz, Black). For some reason whenever the computer boots, it gets stuck in the white screen with the gray Apple logo, and shows up a bar, as if it's loading some sort of firmware update. It never advances, and it doesn't go thru.
If he takes the same HD and puts it into an enclosure, first it would take a while to mount in another computer, and afterwards it would give some errors, but now it doesn't even load.
Before he had the issue with his original computer everything was working fine, and there was no update going on when the computer got broken. The problem that that computer has isn't related to the HD.

If you have physically removed the drive and connected it to another computer and it "took a while to mount" then it sounds like the drive itself is failing. Hopefully he maintains backups.
Boot the MacBook in "verbose" mode (press and hold down option+v while powering up)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1492
In this mode you will see all the boot messages scroll by instead of the typical white screen with Apple logo. You will likely be able to see messages indicating what the computer is trying to do -- for example messages indicating that having failures or retrying to read the hard drive.
The access arms on hard drives have to be precisely located above the "tracks" on the disk in order to read data. As the drive ages & wears, the accuracy of the arms can become sloppy, causing the read/write head to no longer be precisely located over a track. This results in failure to read correctly. Most drives have a useful life of about 5 years -- after which the failure rate will go up substantially. Fortunately, replacement hard drives are cheap.

  • Restarted my MacBook Air, just have a white screen with apple . Will not start up

Restarted my MacBook Air, just have a white screen with apple . Will not start

What version MacBook Air do you have?  Usually identified by the year you bought it, i.e. mid-year 2012, 2011, etc.  Also, what OSX are you running?  (please provide OSX ver number, i.e. 10.8.2 for latest Mountain Lion, etc.)
Not sure I can help you directly but for others to lend a hand, they'll need to know this information to make a sound suggestion.  I see you're new to posting here so this will help you in the future.
    Good luck.

Ok, sounds like the safe mode boot worked... You probably don't want to always be in safe mode though (some reduced functionality) so does it do a normal boot now? If not, you should then reboot into safe mode and run Disk Utility. Then select Macintosh HD on the left hand side, and click the Verify Disk button. If needed, it will ask you to Repair Disk. If there are errors found, Repair Disk again until there are none. Then try another normal boot and reply with result, wether good or bad.

  • Stuck in White Screen with pin-wheel on start-up

    Hi everyone,
Have been having a few probs the last days, most likely since upgrading to 10.5
I restarted my G5 today because an application kept failing to launch. It's now not booting up, it is stuck on the white screen with the apple logo and pin wheel and doesn't go to the blue screen. After a few minutes the fans have built up to full speed but nothing else is happening.
I have noticed that following the start up sound (black screen) there is a flash of a folder icon (in Classic style format) followed by a question mark (both very temporary, split second) before going to the white/grey screen.
I'm not sure what to do from here and would appreciate any suggestions.
    Many thanks.

Hi Samsara - thanks for the comforting comments!
I'm going to go ahead as you recommend - it's a two hour trip to my nearest Apple store (and even then it's in Yikesville so I'm expecting Vikings for tech specialists but we'll see!)
With regard to a new machine, I feel like the day is looming - I use the computer predominantly to run audio recording software which, with plugins, is very CPU intensive and I keep hearing about how the later machines are so much more capable. The other option maybe to increase my RAM but again, for the cost perhaps I should bite the bullet and upgrade the system totally. I don't know, maybe I'll have talked myself out of that option by morning!
Happily, in a stroke of rare genius, I had shifted key files to an external HD earlier this week and have been running Time Machine so there is a full back-up of everything sitting on my desk.
But I do appreciate you highlighting that a new HD is relatively inexpensive and the suggestion that I don't necessarily need to go breaking the piggy bank to get a new machine... it was certainly feeling that way earlier today!
    Cheers - Matt

  • I downloaded the new itunes update and now no videos will play. I get a white screen and no sound. also a bunch of songs i have purchased no longer play.

i have a bunch of files that can't be located and some songs that i purchase that when you click on them they skip to the next song. also all my videos, movies and tv shows i purchased come up with a white screen and no sound they show they are playing

"Add Folder to Library" is still where it always was, in the File menu.
The new "innovation" is that the File menu is hidden by default!  But you can reveal it by using CTRL+B.

  • White screen with line down the middle?

My Ipod hit the floor and now all I can see is a white screen with a line down the middle. Do I need to send it in for repair or is there something else I can do to get the screen to work? The music still plays however.

Sounds like a hardware problem. I am not sure if you want to send it to Apple since they are likely to want to charge you almost the replacement cost of the iPod, that is if they will look at it at all.
You might try some of the online iPod repair places. Many are pretty affordable.

  • I bootup to a white screen with mavericks. The cursor is there but I can't do anything.

I have recently installed Mavericks. When I boot up it sometimes boots to a white screen with just the cursor visible. I can move the cursor but can not do anything else. Any suggestions?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
