White screen with yellow stripes on start up?
On start up my screen is white with vertical yellow stripes and stays like that. I've tried re-booting but no good.
You are very welcome.
I hate having to replace computers, get attached to them, but having the geniuses check this one out will save a lot of frustration. A couple of these past discussions went on and on and on until the person gave in and did what you have done. If it is hardware there just isn't anything on-line help can do about it. Good luck tomorrow and if you have a chance, post the results...we are all fellow users on here and like to hear the resolution to problems.

White screen with green stripes
Hi,
I have an imac 27” (Mid 2011), My screen started to freeze 30 minutes after I turned the computer on. I would be running lightroom 4 or some other program, and suddenly the screen would go black with some stripes (just like old TV did when you turned them on), then it would go to a complete White screen an that was it. If I restarted it would have the problem 30 min after. This happen sevral times during the last days. Yesterday , I started the computer and a White screen with a Apple symbol appeared and after that it jsut went white . Some some vertical Green lines appeared. Then the screen when back total white and nothing happens. Could this be lack of memory space? Any suggestions? It reads as if you have a hardware problem which we here can't solve. Bring the Mac into an Apple Store or AASP.

Stuck in White Screen with pin-wheel on start-up
Hi everyone,
Have been having a few probs the last days, most likely since upgrading to 10.5
I restarted my G5 today because an application kept failing to launch. It's now not booting up, it is stuck on the white screen with the apple logo and pin wheel and doesn't go to the blue screen. After a few minutes the fans have built up to full speed but nothing else is happening.
I have noticed that following the start up sound (black screen) there is a flash of a folder icon (in Classic style format) followed by a question mark (both very temporary, split second) before going to the white/grey screen.
I'm not sure what to do from here and would appreciate any suggestions.
Many thanks.
m@Hi Samsara - thanks for the comforting comments!
I'm going to go ahead as you recommend - it's a two hour trip to my nearest Apple store (and even then it's in Yikesville so I'm expecting Vikings for tech specialists but we'll see!)
With regard to a new machine, I feel like the day is looming - I use the computer predominantly to run audio recording software which, with plugins, is very CPU intensive and I keep hearing about how the later machines are so much more capable. The other option maybe to increase my RAM but again, for the cost perhaps I should bite the bullet and upgrade the system totally. I don't know, maybe I'll have talked myself out of that option by morning!
Happily, in a stroke of rare genius, I had shifted key files to an external HD earlier this week and have been running Time Machine so there is a full back-up of everything sitting on my desk.
But I do appreciate you highlighting that a new HD is relatively inexpensive and the suggestion that I don't necessarily need to go breaking the piggy bank to get a new machine... it was certainly feeling that way earlier today!

My iPhone five decided to go crazy and give me a white screen with black stripes and I can't get into my phone. I can only use Siri! What's happening?
You posted in the iPad forum instead of the iPhone forum. To get answers to your question, next time post in the proper forum. See https://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa I'll request that Apple relocate your post.

A few days ago my i mac when into grey screen; there were a few options for starting up, restoring etc i tried all of them to the extent possible but didn't work. Then i decided to unplug my external backup drive in case it may be erased or info lost in this process and now all i get when i turn it on is a white screen with a flashing folder and question mark. Any ideas?
That indicates the computer is having difficulty finding the startup volume. Your internal HD may have failed or the system may have "forgotten" where it is. If you are using Lion or later (10.7.x or later) then restart in the Recovery Partition and choose the startup disk. Before doing anything carefully read and follow Apple's instructions in:

Help, my Mac mini will not start properly. Only goes to the white screen with thinking. Will not go to the password section
Are you sure about your hard disk health, any clicking noice recently?
Go to boot menu (press option button or button left to your space bar while booting) > Select Recovery drive > Disk utility > Verify the volume on which OS X is installed. -
This morning I was just getting the white screen with logo and status bar with fan running. I thought it was an issue with the power adapter so I went out and replaced it. MBP will start now, but won't connect to internet. I have full wi-fi signal. Also, when I try to launch iTunes, it just quits right away. Please help?
-AReinstall OS X without erasing the drive
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. -
My PC will not start normally or in safe mode. I have tried several times in safe mode. All I have now is a white screen with a folder icon containing a ? questiomark. This icon is flashing. No cursor available.
The blinking question mark means the startup drive can't be found.
It could be that it has failed or needs major repair. Boot from the Snow Leopard DVD and run Disk Utility. -

My mac starts up in a white screen with a loading bar and a loading circle please help
I do hope you have recent backup, because it look like your hard disk is failing. You can start up in Recovery Mode, and run Disk Utility to see if the disk can be fixed: OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support

PLEASE HELP!!!!!! is anbody there how does this work never done it before my macbook won't start past white screen with apple logo any ideas ?
Are you using a 10.6 Snow Leopard Install DVD? If yes, you can erase and install following these directions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3910
You'll know whether or not it is a hard drive issue when you get to step 8 under "Part One: Erasing the hard drive". If you do not see your hard drive in the list on the left side of the Disk Utility window then you know the Mac isn't seeing it—could be a loose cable, but more likely hard drive failure.
If you can see it on the left, click on it and look at the bottom of the Disk Utility window. If you see something like "S.M.A.R.T status: failing" that is definitely a hard drive issue. Otherwise, you can just follow the directions for an erase and install!
Might be worth fixing depending how much a repair would cost. Genius Bar could at least diagnose it for you and give a repair estimate. I'd look at what a new or refurbished one with your same specs would cost though to see if the price differential is worth it... -
What do I do when I start my iMac I get a white screen with an apple and a moving circle?
All I get when my iMac is turned on is a white screen with an apple and a moving circle. What should I do to get the iMac to boot?
Do you have reliable backup you can restore from, as an erase and re-install may be required?
Before you got down that route, it's possible that it might get fixed if you try again. Not sure about that particular error, but I have had errors in the past that Disk Utility wouldn't fix on the first attempt but then subsequently did.
It's also possible that the (around $99, I think) Disk Warrior might resolve it - but not guaranteed.
However, I just found this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3862376?start=15&tstart=0 have a look at Nirvi's post at the end - there may be hope (I've not tried this, although it seems to have helped a few, although not everybody - so at your own risk and I wouldn't try it if I didn't have backup).

[solved] Beryl messes up my screen - I don't know why!
I tried to configure beryl on my new Thinkpad X60 (which has an Intel GMA950). I use the very same settings that worked on my old notebook, too (it had an i810 graphics device, so I use the same driver), AIGLX, to be more precise. I can start Beryl w
