White Space in Table

Hi all,
I have created a gallery http://www.davewharton-toastmaster.co.uk/new_site/gallery1.html but the white space is not consistent, there is more vertically than horizontally and looking at the HTML and CSS I can't see what is causing it, could someone let me know how to get it consistent?
Many thanks
Nick

Hi John,
Thats fantastic, sorted thank you.
Just a side note though, all the pages I've designed in Dreamweaver display just <!doctype html> is it better that they have <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
Many thanks
Nick

  • White space between tables

    Hi,
    I am doing an Annual Report and there is a lot of financial tables. I have 60 tables and I need to align the tables vertically so that the white space between each table is exactly the same. Until now I have done this manually. I am sure that there is a better way to do this but I just haven't found the way yet. My first thought was to make a "parent" table with X rows and one column. Then I could put my child tables into the parent table and use a "spacer row" of exactly X mm. I tried this but it really complicates things
    Then I tried the "space after" in the table properties but I cant figure out what this attribute does.
    In other words I would like to force that the vertical space between tabel 1 and table 2 always is exactly 5mm. How can this be done?
    I would appreciate some input/best practice.
    /Regards
    Thomas Lund

    Your table is placed into a paragraph.  Create a paragragh style that contains the space after that you want between the tables and then apply that style to all the paragraphs that contain tables.  That should give you exact spacing between your tables in the text flow.
    This will only work if you are flowing the tables together in one story (which I recommend).

  • White space under table on page how to get rid of it

    I created a new page, inserted a table to fill the page and
    put in a background color. When I look at the page in Dreamweaver,
    there is no white space under the table at the bottom of the page.
    When I preview the page in a browser, the table ends about an inch
    from the bottom of the page and I have about an inch of white space
    under the table. Does anyone have an idea why this is happening?
    Thanks for any help you can give. I'm going crazy trying to
    get rid of it.
    Diane

    Fix up the errors with your html firstly - then see where you
    are at with
    the page....
    The first thing to do would be to get rid of the table
    heights - it's
    invalid and won't render cross browser anyway. Error:

  • A form field to insert white space

    Hi all,
    I need to insert some white space (the number of these white space is depending to some condition) in a form field.
    I show in my report a value and then I must complete this value with some white space to have finally a string with a fixed number of characters.
    I have a form field with a value (<?VALUE?>) and then I would insert a new form field to show only some white space. I can not add these white space directly on the field form containing the value.
    Thanks

    I would like to validate the below expression against the data in the column \S.* What is this expression and where did you get it from?
    I guess this pattern validates for non-whitespace characters. Anyone help me on this and explain what this pattern does?No in regular expression space is represented as [:space:]

  • How do I get rid of white space on one side of image in table cell?

    I'm making a disjointed rollover and when ever I add images it creates too much white space to the right of the cell.  How can I make the picture fit, so space is not wasted?  See image sample with red arrows where I want to remove space.  I've removed the width size from my table, hoping it would "spring to shape" around the images, but no go.

    HTML:
    Cellpadding="0"
    Cellspacing="0"
    CSS:

  • Issues in Application table - extra white space with and without scroll bar

    1. There is an extra white space that comes after the last column in all the applications table, when there is no scroll lbar.

    2. If the scroll bar comes up then, there is an extra white space on top of the scroll bar.

  • White space handling dbms_xmlstore.insertxml

    Hi,
    I have a question about white space handling.
    I have a column in table which holds white space character.
    When I loading xml file using dbms_xmlstore.insertxml white space is converted into NULL and inserted into table.
    It would fail if the column type is not null.
    How do I handle it?
    ======================================================
    Alternatively, how do I insert a tag with only whitespace in it into a table?
    <Tag> </Tag> [One whitespace]
    To elaborate the question
    If I have following data in xml file ...
    =============================================
    <Rowset>
    <Row>
    <Tag1> </Tag1>
    <Tag2>1</Tag1>
    </Row>
    </Rowset>
    I have to load this data into
    table tab1...
    create table tab1 (tag1 varchar2(5), tag2 number);
    How do I achieve it using dbms_xmlstore so that I can read the whitespace in XML and load it correctly into the table?
    ========================================================================
    To use an alternate approach, I also tried the following.....
    I tried the following test program on the xml file also shown below....
    XML File is
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <ROWSET>
    <ROW>
    <SYS_NAME> a </SYS_NAME>
    <SYS_SERIAL_NUM>000000</SYS_SERIAL_NUM>
    </ROW>
    </ROWSET>
    And small procedure is
    create or replace procedure PRO_TEST
    as
    o_sys_name varchar(10);
    spacetag varchar2(10) := ' ';
    begin
    --execute immediate 'create global temporary table gt_xmltype_tab1 (xmlfile1 xmltype)';
    insert into gt_xmltype_tab(xmlfile1)
    values(XMLType(bfilename('RESTOREDIR','ADTL_SETUP_OPTIONS.xml'),nls_charset_id('AL32UTF8')));
    select extractvalue (value(x), '/ROW/SYS_NAME')
    into o_sys_name
    from gt_xmltype_tab gt, TABLE(XMLSequence(extract(gt.xmlfile1, '/ROWSET/ROW'))) x;
    dbms_output.put_line('[' || o_sys_name || ']');
    dbms_output.put_line('ASCII:- ' || ascii(o_sys_name));
    if o_sys_name = ' ' then
    --if o_sys_name = chr(32) then
    dbms_output.put_line('I found space');
    else
    dbms_output.put_line('I found no space');
    end if;
    commit;
    end;
    When Tag is <sys_nam> </sys_name> I get [] in the output(empty).
    When Tag is <sys_nam> a</sys_name> I get [ a] in the output(space and a).
    When Tag is <sys_nam> a </sys_name> I get [ a ] in the output(space a space).
    When I has some character along with the whitespace, behaviour is correct and as expected.
    But when the tag contains only whitespace the output is empty.
    I cant seem to get around this problem.
    Upon receiving empty string, other sub systems which are reading the data stop working.
    Can someone help here?

    White space handling dbms_xmlstore.insertxmlYou may replace all whitespaces with its corresponding html entity:
    SQL> create table test (v varchar2 (5))
    Table created.
    SQL> declare
      ctx   sys.dbms_xmlstore.ctxtype := dbms_xmlstore.newcontext ('test');
      doc   xmltype := xmltype(replace('<ROW><V> </V></ROW>',' ', '&#38;#32;'));
      ret   int;
    begin
      ret := dbms_xmlstore.insertxml (ctx, doc);
      dbms_xmlstore.closecontext (ctx);
    end;
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL> select v, length (v), ascii(v) from test
    V             LENGTH(V)        ASCII(V)
                          1              32
    1 row selected.

         <p>Sending Otis to Brian for the board and train program was the best decision I ever made.  After being told Otis could not be helped and that he should be put down, I was devastated.  Otis has now been back from Brian's program for a few weeks and is extremely obedient and friendly.  He is the same puppy we brought home a couple years ago, but calmer and without any aggression.  We work on Otis' obedience daily as well as walk him and put him on the treadmill.   Thanks to Brian, our dog is happy-go-lucky and more approachable.  The list goes on and on of how Brian has helped the family, myself, and especially Otis.  If you are having issues with your dog, especially behavior and aggression problems, my advice to you is to trust Brian.  Your dog will be in good hands with a safe, reliable, responsible, dog lover that will treat your dog like his own.<br />

    The issue with that white space is explained by the use of relative positioning of your menu. Remember that relative positioning visually allows you to move an element, but that its "shadow" or "foot print" is retained in the document flow. So it still takes up space where it originally flowed in your content, and this causes the header image to position itself the way it does. Turn off the relative positioning of the menu to see what I mean. A simple solution is to set the #header to relative positioning, and then apply absolute positioning to the menu.
    There are other issues with your code. Much of it can be simplified, and you should really stop using ID selectors from this point on, and predominantly use classes instead. The use of ID selectors ought to be limited as much as you can - they force you to write bloated convoluted code.
    Try to write DryCSS (Don't Repeat Yourself).
    Here is my somewhat cleaned up code. Notice I removed and simplified most of the css selectors. Some have no css properties at all anymore. And be careful that you cannot use re-use the same id selector in your html  code: it will not validate. #program1 must become .program1
    PS as always, please backup your files before applying these changes! Dreamweaver lacks a history/versioning feature!

  • How to remove the white space that is now above the main images on each page?

    I took over updating some things on my site from my web designer. The main images on each page used to be flush with the navigation bar on each page. Now there is a white space in between each one. Can you tell me how to remove the white space?

  • White space between images

    I have 5 rollover images lined up beside each other in a
    table cell. I have reduced their borders to 0, the cell padding and
    cell spacing to 0 also. I even tried reducing the images padding
    and margin to 0. However, there is still a really thin line between
    each of the images that i want to get rid of (it's as if the images
    all have a small white border around them, but I've reduced their
    borders to 0).
    Here is what the code looks like:
    <table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
    <tr>
    <td width="53">
    <div id="box">
    <p align="right"><img src="banner.jpg"
    name="banner" width="536" height="101" border="0" id="banner" />
    <a href="#" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()"
    onmouseover="MM_swapImage('home','','Buttons/homebtnover.jpg',1)"><img
    src="Buttons/homebtnup.jpg" name="home" width="107" height="36"
    border="0" id="home" /></a><a href="#"
    onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()"
    onmouseover="MM_swapImage('theteam','','Buttons/theteambtnover.jpg',1)"><img
    src="Buttons/theteambtnup.jpg" name="theteam" width="107"
    height="36" border="0" id="theteam" /></a><a href="#"
    onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()"
    onmouseover="MM_swapImage('schedule','','Buttons/schedulebtnover.jpg',1)"><img
    src="Buttons/schedulebtnup.jpg" name="schedule" width="107"
    height="36" border="0" id="schedule" /></a><a href="#"
    onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()"
    onmouseover="MM_swapImage('gallery','','Buttons/gallerybtnover.jpg',1)"><img
    src="Buttons/gallerybtnup.jpg" name="gallery" width="107"
    height="36" border="0" id="gallery" /></a><a href="#"
    onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()"
    onmouseover="MM_swapImage('contact','','Buttons/contactbtnover.jpg',1)"><img
    src="Buttons/contactbtnup.jpg" name="contact" width="108"
    height="36" border="0" id="contact" /></a></p>
    </div> </td>

    The gap I see is in the images themselves - the outermost
    right and
    bottom pixels are faded. There's no other gap between the
    images in
    Opera and IE 6.

  • Remove XML Tags with White space.

    Hi All, I have a scenario like the below code where I have empty spaces in few columns of my tables. I create XML of the data and send it. There is a lot of code such and I can't add ISNULL() on each and every column. Is there any simple one line code working
    with the XML so that I can remove the tags with only empty spaces. TIA.
    DECLARE @xml1 VARCHAR(max)
    DECLARE @xml2 VARCHAR(max)
    set @xml1 = (SELECT 1 AS Col11, ' ' AS Col21, 'ABC' AS Col31 FOR XML RAW, ELEMENTS)
    set @xml2 = (SELECT 2 AS Col12, ' ' AS Col22, 'ABC' AS Col32 FOR XML RAW, ELEMENTS)
    DECLARE @xml xml;
    SET @xml = Cast('<ROOT>' + ISNULL(@xml1, '') + ISNULL(@xml2, '') + '</ROOT>' as xml)
    SET @xml.modify('delete //*[not(node())]');
    -- Some Way to Remove the XML Tags with Empty space here.
    select @xml as XMLString
    /* Output of the Above script.
    <ROOT>
    <row>
    <Col11>1</Col11>
    <Col21> </Col21> -- This XML Tag with a white space should be removed
    <Col31>ABC</Col31>
    </row>
    <row>
    <Col12>2</Col12>
    <Col22> </Col22> -- This XML Tag with a white space should be removed
    <Col32>ABC</Col32>
    </row>
    </ROOT>

    It would have helped if there had been a trim() function in XQuery.
    With some trial and error and inventive thinking I came up with this:
    <span style="color:Blue">SET</span> @xml.modify(<span style="color:#A31515">'delete //*[. <= " "]'</span>);
    As they say: it seems to work. But I leave no warranties.

    Wow Erland  this
    seems to work, I need to test it against my data and update on this. Thanks again.

  • How do I remove the white space from the bottom and side of my document?

    How do I remove the white space from the bottom and side of my document? (I'm not talking about printing, just viewing it on the screen.) There are about 6 inches of white space at the bottom and at the right hand side. I don't like this. On a blank new spreadsheet it's triple that amount of white space.

    The infinite canvas convention doesn't make a lot of sense for Numbers. When I'm viewing a spreadsheet and mistakenly scroll into white, empty space I think, "this is ridiculous - all of my content is fits on one screen. there's nothing over there."
    A (relatively) infinite canvas is logical for Microsft Excel because it's one big table. There are 256(?) columns by default and hundreds of rows on a sheet - there are cells outside what a user is looking at to see. However, when viewing a Numbers spreadsheet with a single 10 column 10 row table that fits on the screen, there's nothing else on it to scroll to.
    Numbers should distinguish between viewing a spreadsheet and editing one. When I'm just viewing, when there's no content outside the window it shouldn't scroll there. This window behavior is beyond annoying for Numbers on my iPad and iPhone.
    (Adding user-defined canvas size setting to my view mode / edit mode thinking would probably be the most complete solution to this now that I think about it.)
    Until now the way scrolling worked in Numbers has defied logic. Actually it still does lol. That said, thank you Yellowbox for providing a clear explanation. Much appreciated.

  • Removing White Space Around Header - from CSS?

    What is causing the white space around the header and
    above/below the top nav bar? There's also an extra white pixel
    space between each of the buttons on the top nav bar.
    See;
    http://home.roadrunner.com/~phenline/products/prods_models_9_10_07.html
    I've also attached the CSS stylesheet.
    I thought it might be a valign tag but they are all in the
    main text and are necessary to glue the 3 main sections just under
    the top nav bar. I couldn't find any vspace or hspace options in
    the code.
    Because of the rollovers on the top blue horizontal nav bar,
    I need the "class" option in each <td> tag. Otherwise, if I
    put the class="navMain" option on the <tr> tag, then the
    whole nav bar will show the rollover color. Or, I suppose I could
    create 5 different CSS styles for each nav button ???
    Any ideas? Thank you.

    HI, for first you should to revrite tables to DIV, or you can
    correct this with a CSS code for the table:
    for example you shold to check the background color to the
    same:
    .x {
    background-color: #3766c8;
    for more example about Table CSS styling you can check a good
    wizard:
