White space on desktop

I was attempting to change the desktop background with a picture and I selected "Share" and "set desktop"
the picture was in the background, but a big white space in the middle.. I am stumped how to change AND A NOVICE TOO with IMAC. Which btw, is INCREDIBLE...
Thanx,

Hi vew,
I'm curious--is your iMac the older G4 with a domed base and an articulated arm holding the display? Like this?
!http://discussions.apple.com/avatar-display.jspa?avatarID=35&file=av.png!
Some things you have mentioned in posts lead me to think you have a newer iMac, but I wanted to clarify.
Due to terrible forum labeling, it's quite common for owners of newer iMacs with G5 or Intel processors to end up in this area.

  • Why would white space and line breaks in sql query increase runtime

    Using 11.2.0.3.0 on unix sprac server, 8 cpus 32 cores 12TB storage. We have 16 batch servers doing inserts and ~100 users doing mostly queries.
    We have a wierd issue,  we have a long query that takes 30 seconds to run 1st time then 10-20 secs every other time. Based on knowledge of DB we expected it to take a lot less.  Then a developer reformatted it by taking removing extra white space and line breaks.  all of sudden query takes 6 secs first time and 0.8 every other time.  we tripled checked to ensure they are identical and that only difference is white space and line breaks.  We tried it with SQLDeveloper, TOAD, SQLPLUS, from out desktops, appserver. we could reproduce it every time, with white space 10-20 secs without it 0.8 secs.  Query is 200 lines long with white space 30 without it.
    Why would having white space make such a dramatic difference?  because the query is longer eventhough its identical?  We checked parsing times, etc, no difference.  Is there some network setting, oracle parameter, sqlnet setting?  We spent hours looking on google and found nother

    Do you have some sort of horrific network connection between the client and the database such that it would take 8.5 seconds to transmit a few kb of SQL to the server?  That seems most unlikely.
    How are you determining the query plan?  Are you absolutely sure that both SQL statements have the same plan_hash_value when they are actually executed (not just when you generate a query plan without executing it)?  What are the differences in wait events when you execute the two?
    The sql_id will change when you add or remove whitespace.  There are various methods of modifying query plans that are tied to a sql_id.  My wager would be that you have a profile/ outline/ etc. that is not there for the reformatted one which is causing a query plan difference.  My next guess is that you have an accepted plan for the old statement, you haven't set up a process to let the plan evolve, and the reformatted statement starts with the plan that the old statement would get if you allowed the plan to evolve.

  • White space in responsive design around stage when inserting in a Dreamweaver cs6 created webpage.

    What is the fix for removing all the excess space around the stage when added to a mobile webpage.  It views correctly on the desktop.  I have created my animation in a responsive format through Edge CC 3.0.  When I insert it into my webpage I get a lot of excess around the object on my table and mobile formats.  It is not the stage because I have purposely made it gray so to see if it was the issue.  I have done some css rules with negative margins but that is not fixing for all media devices.  I feel there should be an easy fix.  Anybody else experiencing this.

    Sure:  www.excaliburprintingdfw.com/index.html  I did tweaked with margins and positions.  All looks acceptable on most medias except for on a tablet in landscape view.  I could bandaid with another media query but I don't understand why "animate" has the white space in the first place. I appreciate your input.

  • Airport Utility doesn't see Airport Exteme (White space ship, NOT THE BLOCK

    Seems to be a 10.5 issue, my 10.4.11 machine and Airport Admin utility works fine BUT, my Leopard machines are online just fine and the Admin Utility or the Utility do not see the AEB--AGAIN, THIS IS A 802.11G WHITE SPACE STATION SHAPED AEB, NOT THE NEW BLOCK OF WOOD SHAPED AEB I've already read about the apple fix for reseting AND IT DOES WORK for this model.
    Any thoughts out there?
    G

    Mark, I'm sorry to seem obtuse, but I remain confused. Since no one else is jumping in to help you, please help me understand.
    The link you referenced doesn't seem to have anything to do with the 802.11n AEBS. That unit has its own forum and this isn't it. Apple hasn't made things easier by giving two different Airport units the same name, but since yours is not an 801.11n AEBS, don't get sidetracked by it.
    The Apple procedure for resetting the AEBS that you have is detailed here. You said it works for your model AEBS which it certainly should. How were you able to determine this?
    Next, if you're getting online with all your computers, and the issue is just that your Leopard clients can't see the AEBS in Airport Utility, I'd begin to suspect something is wrong with a Preference file related to Airport Utility. I don't have Leopard, but there must be a file that corresponds to something like the following:
    ~Library/Preferences/com.apple.airport.airportutility.plist
    Try dragging it to the Desktop, log out, log in again, and see if that changes anything. If it doesn't, try the same technique with the following Preferences file:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    You'll have to recreate your System Preferences > Network settings after this one.
    If it mucks up things even worse, you can always drag those files back and undo those steps, but I think a Preferences file somewhere is to blame.

  • Footer text-alignment in fluid grid layout and another color in white space, not the body

    I'm working in a fluit grid layout. Everythings works almost perfekt. Accept for de alignment in Opera mini. Mini works not with %. So it must be padding, line-height and something else. But then the footer does not stick.
    In Opera mini
    If i want the footer to stick to for example the bottom. I'm may not use padding in de footer.
    De <p> i used for alignment in from the text. Now my footer must have a alignment in the middle of the footer (center). With padding in footer, it wil work, but then my footer will not stick to the bottom anymore.
    and i have also another question, about the white spaces in de fluid grid. I don't want to give the header, body, footer another color. But that outside of my website.
    With a normal website you give the html and the body grey and the content white. But if i do this with the fluid grid. The content because grey. Is there also a code for.
    This is what it must be. It is a example, not for real. But i really want to know the code for it.

    I found the wright code for the footer. Thanks a lot. I'm happy.
    I'm also searching for a code for max-height. For example one page i have less text, so the page is not filled to the bottom. I want for designing reasons this. So the page is always fitt from header to footer.
    It must not scrolled. Just complete for the desktop-computer and laptop. Is there a code for. Because there is already internet-tv and that are big-screens. It must be for all the browser also ie7, ie 6, opera, safari, chrome and more.

    Hello,
    '''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode|Firefox Safe Mode]] is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings and disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
    ''(If you're using an added theme, switch to the Default theme.)''
    If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu by clicking on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item:<br>

    If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
    * On Windows: Hold the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * On Mac: Hold the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
    * On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run ''firefox -safe-mode'' <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
    ''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''

  • White space at bottom of Safari window

    I need a little help with a very odd problem.
    When I load websites that I have created with iWeb '09 using Safari on my Mac, I sometimes get a portion of the page (always near the bottom of the page) that displays as white, and not the color of the browser background color that I have published. However, if I click anywhere on my desktop (i.e., the Finder) while the Safari window is open, then the white space is instantly changed to the correct color.
    I am running the latest versions of all Apple software, and I have run both disk repair and permissions repair on my hard drive. I have also reset the PRAM on my Mac Pro.
    This is both annoying and puzzling. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and iWeb '09.
    Thanks,
    -AstraPoint
    (note: we also posted this problem on the iWeb '09 forum pages)

    My tutorial (http://toadstutorials.info) and demo sites (Old Toad's Demo Sites) are crated with no page background and a tiled image for the browser background so haven't had the situation you've have. But some of the demo pages had a lot of stuff on it and does load slowly at times with no issue regarding background.
    Give it a try.

  • Blank white spaces on pages

    Hi,
    For some reason, on my website it is showing some random blank white spaces? They appear to be in the same places on each individual page so I was wondering if it could possibly be anything to do with the master page? In preview mode, both on Adobe Muse and on the browser, it appears to be fine but as soon as I've put it up on to the website, the white spaces are evident and I need to get it fixed ASAP.
    My website is http://beckyofficial.businesscatalyst.com/index.html
    Although, please ignore the poor quality of my website for now; it's still under construction.
    If anybody here could help me, I'd be really grateful.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi Jadey,
    Please send your .muse file to [email protected] Add link to this forum post and refer it to me. We'll investigate the issue and get back to you.

  • White space handling dbms_xmlstore.insertxml

    Hi,
    I have a question about white space handling.
    I have a column in table which holds white space character.
    When I loading xml file using dbms_xmlstore.insertxml white space is converted into NULL and inserted into table.
    It would fail if the column type is not null.
    How do I handle it?
    ======================================================
    Alternatively, how do I insert a tag with only whitespace in it into a table?
    <Tag> </Tag> [One whitespace]
    To elaborate the question
    If I have following data in xml file ...
    =============================================
    <Rowset>
    <Row>
    <Tag1> </Tag1>
    <Tag2>1</Tag1>
    </Row>
    </Rowset>
    I have to load this data into
    table tab1...
    create table tab1 (tag1 varchar2(5), tag2 number);
    How do I achieve it using dbms_xmlstore so that I can read the whitespace in XML and load it correctly into the table?
    ========================================================================
    To use an alternate approach, I also tried the following.....
    I tried the following test program on the xml file also shown below....
    XML File is
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <ROWSET>
    <ROW>
    <SYS_NAME> a </SYS_NAME>
    <SYS_SERIAL_NUM>000000</SYS_SERIAL_NUM>
    </ROW>
    </ROWSET>
    And small procedure is
    create or replace procedure PRO_TEST
    as
    o_sys_name varchar(10);
    spacetag varchar2(10) := ' ';
    begin
    --execute immediate 'create global temporary table gt_xmltype_tab1 (xmlfile1 xmltype)';
    insert into gt_xmltype_tab(xmlfile1)
    values(XMLType(bfilename('RESTOREDIR','ADTL_SETUP_OPTIONS.xml'),nls_charset_id('AL32UTF8')));
    select extractvalue (value(x), '/ROW/SYS_NAME')
    into o_sys_name
    from gt_xmltype_tab gt, TABLE(XMLSequence(extract(gt.xmlfile1, '/ROWSET/ROW'))) x;
    dbms_output.put_line('[' || o_sys_name || ']');
    dbms_output.put_line('ASCII:- ' || ascii(o_sys_name));
    if o_sys_name = ' ' then
    --if o_sys_name = chr(32) then
    dbms_output.put_line('I found space');
    else
    dbms_output.put_line('I found no space');
    end if;
    commit;
    end;
    When Tag is <sys_nam> </sys_name> I get [] in the output(empty).
    When Tag is <sys_nam> a</sys_name> I get [ a] in the output(space and a).
    When Tag is <sys_nam> a </sys_name> I get [ a ] in the output(space a space).
    When I has some character along with the whitespace, behaviour is correct and as expected.
    But when the tag contains only whitespace the output is empty.
    I cant seem to get around this problem.
    Upon receiving empty string, other sub systems which are reading the data stop working.
    Can someone help here?

    White space handling dbms_xmlstore.insertxmlYou may replace all whitespaces with its corresponding html entity:
    SQL> create table test (v varchar2 (5))
    Table created.
    SQL> declare
      ctx   sys.dbms_xmlstore.ctxtype := dbms_xmlstore.newcontext ('test');
      doc   xmltype := xmltype(replace('<ROW><V> </V></ROW>',' ', '&#38;#32;'));
      ret   int;
    begin
      ret := dbms_xmlstore.insertxml (ctx, doc);
      dbms_xmlstore.closecontext (ctx);
    end;
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL> select v, length (v), ascii(v) from test
    V             LENGTH(V)        ASCII(V)
                          1              32
    1 row selected.

           </h2>
         <p>Sending Otis to Brian for the board and train program was the best decision I ever made.  After being told Otis could not be helped and that he should be put down, I was devastated.  Otis has now been back from Brian's program for a few weeks and is extremely obedient and friendly.  He is the same puppy we brought home a couple years ago, but calmer and without any aggression.  We work on Otis' obedience daily as well as walk him and put him on the treadmill.   Thanks to Brian, our dog is happy-go-lucky and more approachable.  The list goes on and on of how Brian has helped the family, myself, and especially Otis.  If you are having issues with your dog, especially behavior and aggression problems, my advice to you is to trust Brian.  Your dog will be in good hands with a safe, reliable, responsible, dog lover that will treat your dog like his own.<br />

    The issue with that white space is explained by the use of relative positioning of your menu. Remember that relative positioning visually allows you to move an element, but that its "shadow" or "foot print" is retained in the document flow. So it still takes up space where it originally flowed in your content, and this causes the header image to position itself the way it does. Turn off the relative positioning of the menu to see what I mean. A simple solution is to set the #header to relative positioning, and then apply absolute positioning to the menu.
    There are other issues with your code. Much of it can be simplified, and you should really stop using ID selectors from this point on, and predominantly use classes instead. The use of ID selectors ought to be limited as much as you can - they force you to write bloated convoluted code.
    Try to write DryCSS (Don't Repeat Yourself).
    Here is my somewhat cleaned up code. Notice I removed and simplified most of the css selectors. Some have no css properties at all anymore. And be careful that you cannot use re-use the same id selector in your html  code: it will not validate. #program1 must become .program1
    PS as always, please backup your files before applying these changes! Dreamweaver lacks a history/versioning feature!

  • How to remove the white space the in Excel  output

    Hi All,
    I was working with Oracle Apps r12.
    We have developed a custom report using xml and the report output type is Excel. when ran the report it completed with normal and the excel output is generated,We have a column called Amount and its having a white space before the amount.
    So that we cannot able to do any aggregate function with that data.
    For example the column called Amount

    in excel the output is coming like this, So when we select this three column and try to do any aggregate function it not giving any value.
    I have tried Trim but its dos'nt works, because the values are already trimed.

    I took over updating some things on my site from my web designer. The main images on each page used to be flush with the navigation bar on each page. Now there is a white space in between each one. Can you tell me how to remove the white space?

    You should be able to add the following snippets of css to your stylesheet to fix that.
    In the mainstyle.css file, change...

    margin-top: 0px;
    padding: 0px;
    margin-right: auto;
    margin-left: auto;

  • Keep white spaces and carriage returns?

    I'm viewing a column -VARCHAR2(4000)- in a standard report column.
    The column value contains white spaces and carriage returns.
    I put "white-space:pre;" in CSS Style, but it still skips carriage returns...
    What can I do to view white spaces and carriage returns?
    I'm using apex 3.0 and IE 7.
    Saad.

    I'm using apex 3.0 and IE 7.There's your problem...
    IE6 (and, since there don't seem to be any docs saying anything different, presumably IE7) don't support white-space: pre in quirks mode. Don't ask me why - probably in one of MS efforts to "not break the web".
    All the APEX built-in templates are rendered in quirks mode as they don't supply complete DOCTYPEs. If you are using a standard APEX template or a custom template without a complete DOCTYPE declaration you are probably seeing this quirks behaviour.
    It looks like this will change in IE8.

  • How do you get rid of white space when you are printing multiple pages to one sheet of paper?

    How do you get rid of extra white space when you are printing multiple pages to one sheet of paper?  When printing multiple pages to one sheet of paper Acrobat won't let you select the "zoom" for printing.
    Thanks

    Take a look at Quite Imposing.

  • How do I remove the white space when importing a site from Flash?

    Okay, so I've dragged and dropped my created Flash site into Dreamweaver. One problem though, when I view it in a web browser (any web browser), it displays the site fine, however with a huge white space to the side of it. You'll see what I mean in this screenshot:
    What can I do then to remove that white space and make the site fill up the whole web browser? I've tried resizing it using a number of ways, but cannot seem to get it right.
    Thanks.

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    What can I do then to remove that white space and make the site fill up the whole web browser? I've tried resizing it using a number of ways, but cannot seem to get it right.
    You can do two things:
    1) Change the width of the container to 100%;  OR
    2) Post a link to your test page here (not the code nor picture) so that we can see ourselves what your code looks like.
