White Spot on screen after closing/putting to sleep

I'm about to have a seizure, or at least scream @ somebody; there is a big white blotch in the middle of my screen after I close it and open it( i see it 4 it wakes back up); I put it to sleep to see if it was only after I closed the lid, & the same thing happened even without the top closed. I first noticed this after I closed the screen rpidly; I may have not noticed it prior to this event however- might they be related? Any suggestions? Any one know what it is?
*Any Help would be greatly appreciated*
-Muhajir

With the Mac turned off, open the lid and hold the Mac up to a window so that as you are looking at the black screen with daylight coming through the window directly behind the Mac. Do you see the white blotch?
You may have noticed but the Apple logo on the top of the screen lights up when ever the screen is on. This is done by making the whole screen slightly transparent in this region so the screens backlight can shine backwards through the logo. But it also allows ambient light to shine through the screen in the opposite direction. Could that possibly be what you are seeing?

  • Kernel 2.6.32.2-2 black screen after closing laptop lid (intel + KMS)

Today I updated my laptop with the new 2.6.32.2-2 kernel from core. Previous update of my system was just a few days back, so there are no massive changes to other packages and I also don't use testing packages.
Since the update, after closing the laptop lid (which just blanks my screen) and I want to continue working I just have a black screen (no backlight) and the screen won't respond to mouse or keyboard input. I have to reboot (ctr-alt-del or pushing my power button) or switch to VT1 and back to VT7 to get my screen back. I'm absolutely positive that this was not a problem before, it worked fine with 2.6.30 and 2.6.31 kernels with my same configuration.
    HP 6730b laptop
Intel GMA 4500 (Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07))
Intel driver 2.9.1-1 using KMS with early start (modprobe.conf) and I rebuilt my initcpio to the new 2.6.32.2-2 kernel
    Gnome 2.28.2
Can anyone confirm this behaviour? Should I file a bug somewhere? I read about lots of upgrade problems with this new kernel, but for the rest everything else works fine so far.
    Thanks for your feedback.

Isn't suspending and resuming a session exactly what you're doing (or hoping to do) when you close your lid and then open it up again?  I.e., putting the machine into a low-power sleep state and then having everything come back to where you were when you wake it up?  You mentioned that the Gnome power management tools depend on pm-utils, which suggests that somewhere in there "pm-suspend" is getting called.  If you can find out where it's getting called (i.e., in some script that Gnome power manager uses), and try changing it to "pm-suspend --quirk-vbestate-restore" (or one of the other quirks, perhaps), then that may bring your screen back on wakeup.
Hehe, nope I don't hope to suspend :-) I just close the lid to save the display (and some power) but want my machine to keep running (when downloading torrents or when I'm going to eat etc...) Also it keeps the dust from entering the keyboard ;-)
I also took a look at the post where there should be a patch present, but I think it's for another problem: flickering screens.
For me it's a bug in intel driver or kernel, but still it's strange that KDE doesn't suffer from this!

  • Give us a way to get rid of the Home View screen after closing last document

After closing the last open document, a new window pops up. Please let us disable this. It's bad in a production environment, gets in the way.

    Hi Aditya
By default, OPA 10.4 will collect the minimum amount of information needed to answer the goal of your interview and then display the answer and the reasons for the answer. You can change what appears on these screens within OPM itself (you don't need to change those settings).
    So I would:
    - add a Summary Screen to your project (if you haven't already)
    - add <your goal attribute> to your summary screen. This will display as a link if the goal is unknown and as a sentence showing the outcome and a Why? link when it is known.
    - add a label to the summary screen, providing information about the outcome (eg "Congratulations you are eligible") or simply show the value of the outcome (eg Your total deduction is %deduction_amount%).
    - use visibility rules to control which items to display at the start/end of your interview (in your case, maybe hide your goal once it is known and show your label once your goal is known). See OPA help topic "Tutorial: Hiding and displaying summary screen elements".
The Inferred Brand Discount sample supplied in the OPM install provides an example of this (see Help topic Sample Rulebases for information on how to open this).
    Hope that helps,

  • White spot on screen

Hey! I got a problem.. When I press the home button a white spot appears on my screen, like a blur. And desapears in 2 seconds. My iphone has never crashed or had contact with water. What should I do?

I have the same issue as the people above. I don't have extended warranty and my serial number is not in the recall list.
The white spots on my screen are exactly like the ones in the listed serial numbers.
I tried calling Applecare and they told me there was nothing I could do about it since my warranty expired already, but they told me to take it down to a authorized repair center to look at it. When I brought it in, they told me they couldn't service it because Apple needs to approve it first, but they did confirm that the white spots were exactly the same as the old G4's on the recall list. I then went home and called Applecare again, and the service rep this time sent me over to a display/powerbook specialist/engineer. He then tells me I can't service this as it's not under warranty any longer.
Do you think we need to create a class action suit for this to be escalated again?

  • Blank/Black screen after waking up from sleep mode

    Hi there,
So this is my first time using a macbook. I purchased a macbook pro with retina display in August of this year. I have never had this problem but after i have updated to the new Yosemite OS, my problem keeps happening. I will be using my computer to work on assignments. After, ill put my mac to sleep and close the lid screen. When i come back and turn it on, it shows a bank/black screen. The keyboard lights up but nothing shows on the screen. So i end up close my mac and reopening it again and it still is blank screen. After a few tries opening and closing, i type my login password even when the screen is black. After, i close it again and reopen it and now my screen shows my background and login information. I enter the password and it works fine. I'm not sure if this a problem that needs to be looked at? I have taken care of my computer since day 1 so im not sure why this problem is happening. Any help/input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

    Hi ellaine,
Lets check your energy saver settings:
About Energy Saver sleep and idle modes in Mac OS X
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2412
Regarding your second question, it may be that your display is set to sleep before the screen saver starts. That would cause the screen saver to never display.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • T61 resuming after being put to sleep

Almost every time i put my comp to sleep it wakes up, sometimes immediately and sometimes after some time.
I only put to sleep using Fn F4 because worried it will resume with lid closed.
Any ideas on a setting I could change or maybe a program waking it up?

    Hello,
Could there be a program running in the background which periodically checks for updated content, such as an RSS reader or anti-malware program?  If so, does disabling it before the sleep operation make any difference?

  • Dynadock U3.0 - Spins up hard-drive after laptop put to sleep

    Hi,
I have a Dynadock U3.0 and love it apart from a few small bugs.
    1) After I put my laptop to sleep, the Dynadock USB light switches off and I hear my hard-drives spin down.
However, about 5 seconds later - only the USB 3.0 hard-drive spins back up.
I tried plugging the hard-drive directly into the laptop's USB 3.0 port and it spin-downs fine.
So, appears to be a problem in the Dynadock
    2) Sometimes when I plug in a USB hard-drive, the Dynadock "disconects and then reconects".
Issue 2 is no major, but issue 1 is really annoying when I'm trying to sleep. I have to physically pull the power on the hard-drive.
I have updated my USB 3.0 drivers to the latest, and also the Dynadock to latest firmware from the Displaylink site.

so, did a few more tests.
If USB 3.0 hard-drive plugged directly into laptop USB 3.0 port - it works fine
If USB 3.0 hard-drive plugged into Dynadock USB 2.0 port - it works fine
If USB 3.0 hard-drive plugged into Dynadock USB 3.0 port - no good - spins up 5-10seconds after spin-down.
So, currently making do having the drive plugged into the USB 2.0 port on the Dynadock.
If the issue isn't fixed, then I will buy a USB 3.0 hub and plug this into laptop. Then plug hard-drive and Dynadock into this so the hard-drive doesn't go through the Dynadock.

  • Build 9926 - blue screen after resume from long sleep

I installed Windows Technical Preview build 9841 in October, 4 days after it came out, via an upgrade, keeping everything, from the factory 8.1 (Toshiba with all the bloatware). The drive was almost empty at this point and I had installed only a couple
of programs when I made the upgrade. I successfully upgraded to 9860 then 9879 the day those came out, and hadn't had any issues. Two days after installing 9879, I installed Linux Mint 17 KDE on a seperate 66GiB partition. Now I run a dual boot between Windows
10 Pro Technical Preview (build 9926) and Kubuntu 15.04 Vivid Vervet preview. I hadn't had any problems with my laptop except for the very rare blue screen, until I tried installing Google Chrome Canary (under build 9879). It blue screened (BAD_POOL_CALLER
I think) and it now does it after I resume from sleep (an overnight sleep where it hibernates or something) and I lift up the login screen. I think I'm the only one with this problem, so what can I do about it? Thanks

    PH
These crashes were related to memory corruption (probably caused by a driver).
Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.  Please run verifier  first
If you are over-clocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
    In other words STOP!!!
If you do not know what this means you probably are not
1-Driver verifier (for complete directions see our wiki here)
2-Memtest. (You can read more about running memtest here)

  • MBP wakes up after being put to sleep

Several times the MBP wakes up after it was put to sleep, the battery runs down and it overheats inside the bag. I don't have any idea what wakes the computer, could it be the motion sensor? What can be done?

My wife's MBP started doing this after upgrading to Snow Leopard. So, after six weeks of hearing her complain of it when she forgot to close the lid, (I realize it still wakes up with the lid down, but since she only unplugs it when she uses it, that hasn't been an issue.) she finally let me look at it. I found using her System Monitor that the active app was Dashboard. When I told her, she said "I haven't run that for months, that couldn't be it." But, persisting, I opened Dashboard to find that she had a clock that kept local time. With her permission, I killed the clock and her MBP hasn't woken up on it's own since.
So, try running System Monitor to find out what's running after it wakes up.

  • Can't get past white loading a screen after restoring from time machine backup

I am aware there are others threads of my problem however they date back years ago and after trying their solutions it still does not work.
After using Time Machine to restore my hard drive from a backup, I can't get past the white loading screen with apple logo after system restart during restore process. Ive gone into disk utility and repaired hard drive - it's fine. So I know this is a software glitch. I've also tried resetting SMC & PRAM (whatever those mean). No success and i cannot get past the white loading screen.
I'm running Mavericks (latest) on a late 2009 iMac. Thank you!

If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.
