White stripes in exported JPEGs

Dear Friends,
I use Windows XP SP 2, Indesign CS 2 (Vers. 4.0.5).
I use the Indesign in-built jpeg export function very often because I need the output for some flash presentation (flash book).
But the output is sometimes distorted with white stripes.
I really hate this - because I can see these white stripes also when I work in Indesign with High Quality View Mode.
To eliminate them I need to scroll the distorted page out of the screen and scroll it into back again.
Then there aren't any white stripes on the screen or in the resulting jpeg-Output of this page.
But for 100 or more pages this "solution" is not practical.
There are workarounds like Apple- or Javascript Indesign-Macros for exporting all pages as PDFs and then converting them back to JPEG in Adobe Photoshop, for example. But the Indesign export-to-jpeg function is very simple, easy, straight-forward and fast. But these white stripes must go away.
Is there an update for Indesign CS 2 to eliminate this problem?
What is the reason for this really annoying problem?
I thank you very much for your help and support!
With best Regards

Well - but when the exported JPEG has to be small - then Photoshop rasters the fonts very unreadable. - Indesign is better in rastering the fonts when it is exporting the stuff directly as JPEG-Files. The font is much more readable then.
Btw.: Is there a way to setup the font-rasterizer of Adobe Photoshop to improve readability of rasterized fonts?
Thank you for your help and support!
With best regards

  • What's the deal with large white blocks in exported jpegs

I just exported my first job I ran through Aperture. Out of 736 files, 9 were flawed. When opened, the exported jpeg had a missing section of the photo, that was all white. The white block appeared in random spots but always on the edges. The problem didn't occur the second time around with the same 9 files/ this time processed in a batch of 9.
I need to know how to export files reliably - in my workflow, I don't have time to double check file quality.
Has anyone seen this issue? I've seen it with 1.1.1 and 1.1.2.
    I'm shooting with a 1ds mrkII.
    MacBookPro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

i've seen this too, in other odd ways. it seems to affect the images that i've spotted (with the patch tool) and have other corrections/adjustment applied. its almost like the GPU gets too overloaded to accurately recreate all of the image mods. the image seems to be segmented into smaller rectangular sections that probably get loaded into the video card's memeory and the adjustments and corrections are applied on smaller, more managable sections. when the image is stitched back together something goes horribly wrong!
the sections tend to be mis-matched with some completely black, some that have black spots where the patch tool was applied, other sections have what looks like a white overlay that's 50% opaque. sometimes even my thumbnails come up with the same results as these malformed exports. i've been able to shake them back to normalcy by toggling one of the corrections (spot/patch, highligh/shadow, etc). after the thumbnail updates properly, the export usually works fine.
this is definitely a bug with aperture and i would report it as such. attach and send the image to the bug report if you can!

  • QuickTime import showing white stripes

When importing a QuickTime movie (containing a mask) in iMovie I get vertical white stripes on the left & right border of the frame exactly on the mask's edge (mask is 720x576 pixels, QT movie 768x576) also occurs when using a .dv file. Any idea's how to prevent this?
    Nils

    Welcome to the forum, Nils.
Please say more about your iMovie project. Is it a DV PAL project or NTSC? Your reference to 768x576 suggests you may live in the PAL part of the world. (Your name too.)
For NTSC the black part of the mask should be 720x480. For PAL, 768x576.
The mask image should itself match the dimensions of the masked movie. So if the movie is 900x1200, the mask image should be 900x1200 too, with the black rectangle inside it.
Please say too why you are using a mask. Depending on whether the iMovie project is PAL or NTSC, a mask may be unnecessary.
I have no experience using masks for PAL, but I'm sure others here have. The goal, usually, is to create a mask that trims the source movie to the dimensions that iMovie expects. The correct dimension depends on whether the iMovie project is PAL or NTSC. And may depend, indirectly, on what type the movie is. To minimize any iMovie confusion, it's best for the imported movie to be a DV stream.
For those unfamiliar with masks, a mask is a black image placed over the video track of a QuickTime movie. The mask is usually a black rectangle, but it can be any shape. A 720x480 black mask placed on a 1100x1400 movie crops the movie image to 720x480, discarding that portion of the image outside the black mask. (A black circle discards everything outside a circle. A black star discards everything outside a star.) When you export the masked movie to a new movie you get a movie that's 720x480. Masks allow us to change the aspect ratio of a movie as well as change its shape or size. It lets us change a 4:3 movie to a 16:9 movie, for example, without stretching the image.
So Nils, my guess is 1) your mask must be the correct size for PAL/NTSC; and 2) the masked movie must be exported to a PAL/NTSC DV stream before you import it to iMovie. And, of course, the iMovie project must be PAL or NTSC, matching the mask.
I've never tried importing a masked movie directly to iMovie. I first export it to a DV stream, which may be a good step to add. iMovie may be using the UNmasked movie size to import the movie, which might deliver the wrong size to iMovie. Exporting it first to a DV stream might eliminate any confusion about its size.
[Later: I created a 966x725 movie that uses the Motion JPEG format, added a mask image that's the same dimensions containing a 768x576 black rectangle, saved that movie, then imported it directly into a PAL iMovie project. It worked perfectly. No export to DV required.]

  • Problem with exported jpegs from CS5 PSDs with transparent backgrounds

I've detected an issue where when exporting jpegs from a CS5 PSD layered file with a transparent background, the jpegs don't have a pure white background (255, 255, 255). They seem to range from 250, 250, 250 to 253, 253, 253.
LR3 with same export settings does not show this behavior--it's pure white: 255, 255, 255.

    Bill,
Another very helpful solution and I appreciate knowing how to fix it in both applications. Thanks!

  • Exported Jpeg's when sent to photo lab print too dark

I have had consistent results with exported jpeg images that look fine on my monitor (as raw files)and show in the histogram in lightroom 2.5 as the highlights just starting to clip as printing too dark when sent to a photo lab in SRGB.  Is this a fault of my monitor?  I have calibrated the monitor, a Dell S2409W, using charts on the website at http://www.normankoren.com/makingfineprints1A.html but this still happens. Will darkening the Monitor help or will the images still clip at the same point?  I have been able to send a second image with the exposure and or brightness boosted a bit and they print brighter, but this is a pain.  What is the best way to correct this so that I can see the same image as I get back from the lab?

    hello henrykipson,
you said that you want starting an professional laboratory business,i can talking about this because i had a laboratory until some years ago .i hope that you made some artistic study,so it's more easy for you to learn this topic.you must study,an pass an examination  for take an artigianal licence that allow you to open this activity ,the licence given you the opportunity to work either for sale photografic material either to shoot and developing, one time that you had pass this examination you must gone to the police autority and inform these of your business (is under police control.because you work with chemical material, and also because you had a reservate people information, and they must given you their assent.)after all you can start to buy a good developer and print machine beyond to have a dark room.for manual print.you must decided if do you want work in black and white or color. You can do both but is better to specialize by one of them ,like you want.
Remember from the digital events many people print his image at home, you must deciding maybe is better to work with a professional photographer, that can given you more work.itsn't easy.you must have a good preparation because ,they are more exigent. The good results depend also from the quality of your works.a good machine, good chemical product, good upkeep,of your laboratory.(in italy this is the procedure,i think also in other country, because is a ticklish question licence.)I hope that this my little explanation are useful to you.Good luck .

  • White stripe down MBA screen?

I sat down to update the MBA to 10.5.6 yesterday and rebooted before I started (never hurts) - while on some of the splash screens (before login) there appeared a flickering white stripe down the display about an inch wide, just to the left of center. Looked to me like a set of vertical pixel drivers stuck in the ON state. Went away before the login, and didn't come back during the update, but happened again in the auto reboot after the update.
I tried searching the forum, but didn't see anything like this, although there were some posts about thin white stripes. Am I having a unique problem, or is this something already known about? I'm sure I would have heard from my wife, the normal user, if that had happened during regular use, so maybe it's a boot up issue?
    Thanks!

It show the uniformity of the display best if the display is showing with 50% gray. If you have a faint stripe on the display, it might show up. Just create a jpeg file that only contains 50% gray, and use preview to do a slideshow at full screen. If you can't see anything, your MBA should be fine.

  • My iPod touch screen went fuzzy with pink and white stripes

Hello! I really appreciate if anyone would tell me what's wrong with my iPod touch.
I have been using my iPod touch for less than a year, and honestly, I have quite a bad habit: I always use it for playing games. And sometimes, I even use it while it is charging. Usually it's fine, nothing went wrong, so I keep doing the same thing sometimes.
one day, I'm visiting my relative and tried to charge my iPod. Since my iPod doesn't have an adaptor, I usually charge it using my laptop (the seller told me to charge it in a laptop/computer). One day, I borrowed my cousin's laptop to charge my iPod, but she only gave me an adaptor (not made for iPod or any apple products, but it fits so I thought it's okay). But the next day, I found out that my iPod went off by itself and I know that my battery isn't low.
I Tried to charge it using my laptop at home, but it still went off! Also, it went normal in my laptop (the iTunes appeared automatically, as a sign that my iPod is charging). So, I tried to restore it and I worked (at least I thought so), until I saw my screen went fuzzy (pink and white stripes). So, almost everyday I turn off my iPod, turn it on again, wait for a while, then use it normally. Usually it lasts 'normal' for hours, but it will still be error as usual.
    So, my question is:
What makes my iPod touch screen went fuzzy?
Is it because I used it while charging?
Is it because I charged it with an adaptor that is not made for Apple products?
please help me, I don't know what else to do! I have restored it, I didn't download many applications like I used to before, and I left it alone when I was charging (I didn't play it while it's charging any more), and I even didn't turn on the Wi-Fi if I'm not using it (I almost NEVER turn off the Wi-Fi before my iPod touch went error)
    Thank you for answering..

    Hi.
So I bought my player around christmas, so it has only been used for about a month. At that time it's been on a everyday use and it has been used to watch high quality videos daily.
So about an hour ago I took it from my jacket's (inside) pocket (I keep it there while I move because it's a loose pocket and doesnt apply that much pressure to the player as it would get in jeans' pockets.
I put it on and to my surprise the lcd screen had white lines all over it. This really seemed weird, mainly because of it's short lifespan which it has been on my hands, it hasn't received any kind of a beating from dropping it or something like that.

(There's a creative promotional video playing. The white sharp-like thing about in the middle is a wave hitting the shore)
I already sent an email to the shop where I purchased it telling the story and asking that what is my options at this stage.
P.S: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/440763 this guy seemed to have the same problem.
What do you think?Message Edited by MKujap on 0-24-200702:34 AM

    Hi.
So I sent an email to the store and they replied that they replace the ones which have those kind of white stripes all over the screen (every second pixel is working and every second is all white) but not the ones where the glass has broke and the fluids have come out.
I went to the store and the guy in there said that they wouldnt replace it as there was a small crack on the right lower corner of the screen and that the fluids have come out from there. You can see that little crack on the picture and there is only little (and I mean) little fluid come out of the crack. I didn't even noticed that there was any of the fluids on the screen, it just seems to be a little crack, nothing more.
I wonder if the standard year warranty applies for this situation? (see the photos on the first post)

  • Exporting Jpegs from Lightroom - DPI question

When I export Jpegs from Lightroom, I set the dpi to 300 pixels per inch. I do not specify a max width or height. When I view these files in Adobe Bridge (CS2 or CS3) the file info says 300dpi. However, when I open the files in Photoshop and select image size, It says 72dpi and has the document size set to very large. I realize that I can enter 300 dpi and uncheck the resample box, I am just confused as to why this is happening.
My concern is, that I upload my images directly to my lab after exporting from Lightroom. Will this cause problems?
    Thanks in advance!
    David

the image resolution is a combination of the two parameters you mention: size and dpi. a very large size at 72 dpi is equivalent to a small size (like 3x5) at very high dpi. for printing you want at least 240 dpi at the largest size that allows you to keep that resolution. for screen presentations or your web site you want jut 72 dpi. 72 dpi and 2x3 inches will require a very small file size.
I suggest you to export images at TIFF and not JPEG as that will allow you to preserve the image quality when doing editing in PS.
In my case I export TIFF for PS (when I need PS editing) and 72 dpi JPEG for my web site (that way if somebody downloads my image illegally thy get a poor resolution copy). But since LR works very well for me 90% of the images re just kept in raw mode and I print from LR.

  • [SOLVED] xfce+slim, suspend to RAM causes black and white strips

I recently installed a fresh copy of Arch. When I click the "suspend to RAM" xfce button the screen turns off as it should, but when I try to resume I see 5 columns of black and white stripes (like a flattened checkerboard ). Alternatively when I click the "suspend to disk" (hibernate) button the screen turns black but the backlight is still on, the only way to get out of this state is to do a force shutdown with the button.
I don't know if this is just an xfce problem, or if slim is also part of the problem, but it doesn't hurt to let you guys know about that as well.
Reading about this problem somewhere else as a probably graphics driver issue, here's my graphics card:
NVIDIA Corporation G72M [Quadro NVS 110M/GeForce Go 7300] (rev a1)
and I installed the Nvidia nouveau driver from here. I didn't see anything on that page about this kind of issue.
I also tried to add "ck-launch-session dbus-launch" to my .xinitrc file, I knew it probably wasn't the solution but I wanted to try anyways. didn't work.
I also have 2 gigs of RAM and 3 gigs in swap partition.
    What do you guys think?

I have a slight newbie question that's related to my problem: after installing pm-utils am I supposed to have a file /etc/pm/config.d/modules? I reread the docs on suspend and standby here and the instructions are implying I should already have such a file, (since they say to modify it rather than create it), but I've installed and reinstalled the pm-utils and don't have any file there.
It's kind of important too, since i'm thinking I should put my graphics driver as one of those suspended modules...
Edit: one more interesting tid bit, when I use "pm-suspend" in the tty command line (by disabling the slim service and never going to xfce) I suspend fine. I need to have root privileges but I can just use sudo. (this is another reason why it could be a graphics card issue or I guess a privileges issue, hmm)
Edit2: I just tried to login as root from slim and hitting the suspend button, but got the same issue. So it's likely not a privileges issue. Strange.

Try resetting your phone, hold the home and sleep/wake button down until the apple symbol comes up, then release. If that doesnt work, you may have damaged your phone and need to take it to an apple genius bar.

  • The difference in sharpness and overall contrast between LR5 and LR4 low res. export JPEGs

Installed the evaluation copy of the LR yesterday and as always compared with the previous version (4.4) of the program. The first and not very pleasant difference was the sharpness of the exported JPEGs in low resolution. In full resolution exports it is not that much noticeable. As you may see on the below photo LR4 export is noticeably sharper than LR5. All the export settings were the same in both versions. I used my saved export preset for both JPEGs. The LR5 exported JPEG is slightly lighter than the one in LR4.4. Both photos look the same in develop mode screen, so the difference is in export processing.
Would be great to know hear the experience, thoughts and comments of others about it.

If no acceptable workaround can be found, then +1 vote: 5.0.1 in a hurry.
