White text on a white background when adding glossary definitions

I inherited an existing IBA file so I'm not sure how the styles were defined (and I've never really played around with custom styles or layouts) but I was hoping it wouldn't matter.  The main color scheme is a dark background and light (white) text.  Similar to the built in template 'contemporary'.
When I add a glossary term, i have my definitions in a separate (word) document.  I copy/paste from the document into the glossary term area.  When I paste, it's pasting white text.  Background color of the glossary definition window is also white (not sure I can control that).  My definition document is black text.
When I test the book, the little glossary dialog pops up when I touch/click on a word but again, it's white text on a white background.
Can I change the background color of the glossary dialog?
Is there a way to change all my glossary definitions from white text to black text?
When I create a test book using 'contemporary', which is also white text on a dark background, it does not have this problem.

As I mentioned, when I used a built in template, like contemporary, it worked too.  The problem only happened with the IBA that I was given.  Perhaps the previous owner of the file had accidentally chosen Format/Advanced/Define Default Glossary Style when they had some white on white displayed and caused all the formatting for the glossary to be the same.  I was able to fix it using that menu path.
I'm not sure what fixing it in the "source file" means.  I was trying to fix it in the IBA file.  Not sure where else I would have fixed it.

  • Arranging white text on a black background

I'm having problems in Illustrator CC being able to have white text be on top of a black shape. I've select the black shape and arranged it for it to be in the back. However, it still appears as the top of my white text.
Thanks for any help - I'm an older user of Illustrator - I remember when Illustrator 5.0 came out - but can't seem to do the simple old tricks like this in the new version.

When you mention black and white and simple tricks, combining pop into my mind. I believe the shortcut is ctrl-7 or cmd-7.

  • White text on a bitmap background 30C - 30M - 30Y - 100K - how to trap it?

I know is possible to trap a white text over a rich black if both of them are vector objects, I don't know if it is possible to get the same result if the rich black background is a bitmap coming from photoshop and is made by 100%  black and any percentage of the other three colors i.e. 30%.
I tried different times without success, is there a way to get it??
    Thank you for any suggestion

can depend on the RIP. i think screen's Trueflow can, but i've had trouble doing this using AGFA apogee (if an agfa techie reading this knows how to do it, let me know!!!). I had a newsletter where white type was above a background similar to what you're talking about, but also had a picture of a person in the top left hand corner. luckily, the type was not near the person, so i was able to distinguish between the type and background, and put a vector rich black in behind the text but above the bitmap to trap the text.
otherwise there is a manual trapping solution where a black stroke the weight of the desired trap is applied to the text above the rich black bitmapped background. make sure the outline is to the outside of the type otherwise the type will become thinner. also need to make sure that the "overprint 100% black" in the handling of black preferences is turned OFF and then make sure black overprints elsewhere where it needs to.
this workaround is NOT recommended if the type is partially over the rich black bitmap and half over something else (because the keylines will be visible). its also a nusiance because it means manually setting all the black text to overprint like the old quark days... yuck.

  • How do you set a transparent background when adding an image?

I've added a block arrow image to a slide in Captivate 4. I enabled Transparent background and selected white as the color within the Image properties. This used to work when I added the same image in Captivate 3. However, in Captivate 4, when I publish, the image displays with a white background. Though it is transparent in priview mode and on the slide iteself when i have the project open. Any ideas on what else I could do to make the image background transparent?

    Hi there
Transparent background should still work in Captivate 4 just as it did in Captivate 3.
There are a couple of reasons it may not do what you are expecting.
The background isn't truly the color it appears to be. For example, it may APPEAR to be solid white (or another color) but in reality it's hundreds of varying shades of the color. This happens a lot with JPEG images.
If the image is PNG format, I've seen Captivate become confused. Especially if the PNG already has a transparent background. So you may need to edit the image and save in a different format.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Firefox 27.0.1 no longer highlights text with a dark background when copy and pasting. IT emboldens it, but is hard to see. It will paste??

When I try to copy and paste it no longer highlights section I am trying to highlight with mouse. I did finally see it emboldens the text (just barely - not easy to see). Sometimes, when I paste into a search panel (for instance) then the section I "highlighted" does have a grey background and it pastes into the panel. Does not work every time, but is only showing up after I click in search window.
This has only shown up the last few days. I was updated right after 27.0.1 came out.
I will mention I have seen an unusual view of the browser's menu area turning dark (if I hovered over area the menus showed up?) This h append 4-5 times and went away?

  • In design view, how to change the white panel background so white text displays? (I keep having to go to Live view to see it)

When I'm adding white text it doesn't show up as the background input panel is white, and I keep having to go into Live view to see the paragraph spacings etc. Is there a way round this, other than changing the text colour in CSS to, for instance, black, and then changing it back before I upload the page?

Hi, and thanks, but it's my fault, I think I'm describing it wrong!
I've attached two screenshots from that area of the screen, one with the white text on the white background (showing as invisible) and the other where I've highlighted the text so you can see where it is. The background .jpg isn't a solid colour, it's a pattern, and if I added an equivalent pattern to the text area div, it wouldn't line up properly on all sreen resolutions, so that's why I gave that div a transparent background. When I go into Live view, the page displays perfectly, but in Design view I can't see to make amendments to the paragraphs etc.

  • PDFs printing with black background and white text.

For some reason some of our PDF's have been printing with black backgrounds and white text, even though they appear to be normal on the screen before they are printed. I haven't been able to confirm 100% yet but it appears to only be happening with pdfs that were created from scanned documents.
Can somebody please offer me some suggestions.

Absolutely agree with the original poster.  I find white text on black background so very very difficult (I changed from using Tweetbot on iOS to Tweetlogix for this very reason) and it physically hurts my eyes to try to read it.  I can just about manage with Spotify using white text on a black background on the large screen of my MacBook Pro - and I do mean "just" - but for the smaller screen of my iPhone 5 it is just impossible.  Even with a retina screen such as that on the iPhone 5S there is a strange ghosting effect and it gives me a headache to look at it for too long.
This may be something to do with age!  I suspect most app developers are youngsters with almost perfect eyesight, but for those of us whose eyesight is less than perfect, this white text on black background really is so very difficult.
I know there is a workaround in setting the iPhone to invert ALL colours (under Accessibility in Settings) but it's a real pain to have to keep altering this setting every time I want to open or close Spotify, and it doesn't look right anyway.  iOS7 is supposed to be a light, bright, easy to read OS - sadly this new Spotify app is the opposite of that.
Please would Spotify consider adding a simple light or dark theme option, so that those of us who want it can have our much easier to read light background back again, with grey or black text?  It would be a great help to those of us who have eyesight problems.
If not, I may have to cancel my Spotify Premium account and move to Deezer instead, as I mainly use Spotify when out and about in the car, so am using the iOS app a lot.
Thank you for considering this plea!

  • Black background and white text physically hurts & creates ghosting. Please add UI color toggle.

    Hi,
The new white text on black design physically hurts my eyes and gives very bad ghosting (i.e. persistent image like those in optical illusions that make you stare at particular color combinations and then look away). I know I'm not the only one with this issue because I've researched it in the past. Without an option to switch back to the old design (White background/black text), I'll need to delete my Spotify account and find another service. Please add an option to switch between the two (because I know many prefer black backgrounds). Myself and a host of others, however, cannot use these color combinations. Please let me know if there is a work-around; it would be much appreciated. It's basically unusable to me in it's current state. :(

  • Compund path or white text ona red background with a drop shadow

I have had business cards printed before with white text on a red background & the white wasn't 'punched out' (compound path) of the red so the white didn't print - the solution I was given was to create a compund path in illustrator before saving the PDF to punch the white out of the red & that worked fine ...
I now have dilema in that we want to get some flyers printed that have red starburst with white text over them but they also have a drop shadow behind the red star burst so if I punch the white text out of the startburst the drop shadow then appears through the starburst & the text is no longer white it is the drop shadow gradient from the background - i do not know how to get around this???

As long as your white text isn't set to overprint, you should be fine.  Just place your text in front of your starburst and look at your attributes panel to make sure that overprint fill and overprint stroke are not checked.
I'll bet if you go back and look at the file that gave you trouble in the past, overprint fill is checked.

*Stare really hard and make out the white text on a cream background
*File a bug in flyspray and get the website changed
*Press ctrl+a to select all so that the text gets highlighted.
I'd go with editing userContent.css to avoid this problem on other sites too.

  • Mail with white text

I have many imac 24" with osx 10.4.11 and after some update i have this problem.
When I open the mail program and read the messages that I sent those from other mac does not read  because I can not read the white text on a white background. Why, I can not solve it. any solution?
    thanks

Just so we know that there actually is any text there to read, copy (Command-C) the text area of that email, and paste it (Command-V) into a text editing application like Word or TextEdit.
    What shows up?

  • White widget text no longer white

I'm experiencing a weird problem with my widgets. Anywhere that white text should appear, it now appears black with a faint outline where the normally white text is antialiased against the darker background color. This affects all the widgets with white text on a dark background, such as the calendar and weather.
Does anyone have an idea what the fix is for this kind of problem?

Adwiz, that's a very common Dashboard problem that has to do with a font conflict, specifically: you probably have a PostScript version of "Helvetica Neue" installed in ~/Library/Fonts. Dashboard uses the Apple-installed version of Helvetica Neue, so if you happen to have another version, it causes the problem you are seeing. The only solution is to disable your version of that font, or to use a font managing program to assign Apple's font to Dashboard, and your custom font for whatever program may have installed it.

  • White text turning black/grey in Safari 3.1/3.2

I have a very odd problem I have not been able to find the answer to anywhere else.  I have created a website that has white text on dark blue background.  It looks fine in all other browsers except for Safari 3.1 and 3.2.  All of the <p> tags have turned black/grey.  I am completely stumped.

I haven't looked at your stylesheet, but lots of errors reported by the validator in your stylesheet that you may want to fix..
    http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator?profile=css21&warning=0&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww. black-cardinal.com%2F
Do not worry about the errors being reported for the spry stylesheet where it refers to the iframe - they always throw an error, it's the others you have to worry about.

  • Change White Text to Black

I've been googling to find a solution to a basic problem and cannot believe what I'm reading. The issue is white text/white background in the text messaging app. I NEED to change the text color from white to black and cannot believe this is not possible.
Could someone please tell me how to do it because it has to be possible.
Please don't say use the invert video option because this is NOT a workable solution.

I am using iOS 7.0.4 and I have seen white text in a blue/green bubble but that is not the same as "white text on a white background". Note that your original post said, "The issue is white text/white background in the text messaging app".
If you are asking if the white on green or white on blue can be changed then i believe the answer is no, that cannot be changed.

  • Overprinting spot colour with white text

I have a problem which I haven't faced in many years and, basically, have forgotten the solution. I have designed a process colour job with white text on a green background but have now been asked by the printer to provide the green as a spot plate with the 'white' type coming out of it. I suppose the white 'knocks' out the green but I can't think how to do this. I have selected the type and set overprint in the colour palette but to no – yes, you've guessed it – it's now just a solid green. All suggestions very welcome – I need this urgently as the printer needs the separated PDF this morning.

You're right Eugene. I was just being a tired panicked/rushed designer (difficult client who expects CMYK colours to look right on their uncalibrated PC monitor!) and so couldn't see the wood for the trees!
Thank you for taking your time to answer my question. One of the best things about the web are these forums.
