Who do you use for hosting?

This really doesn't have to do with DW but I know alot of web designers are in here.
I have been on a shared hosting with HostGator but I think I want to upgrade. Looking at HG of course but also 1 and 1 and Amazon EC2.
As a web designer, what is the normal cost on EC2. That is something I can't seem to get a grasp on.
Here is my current stats.

I use Inmotion Hosting and really like them. I have also worked with clients using BlueHost and think they're good, as well.
Here are a few things to look for:
Do you get an AWStats page to look at your website statistics?
Do you have unlimited emails in all but the cheapest hosting plans?
Do the websites get served rapidly (do they have a really big pipe to the Internet)?
Are their servers overloaded?
How is their technical support? Do you get through quickly with someone who natively speaks English?
Does technical support handle issues quickly and easily?
Do they offer a complete range of solutions for what you want to do?

It doesn't really matter which country your hosting service is located in so long as they offer 24/7 tech support in your chosen language. Telephone support is usually free of charge to you.

  • Who Do You Use For A Speed Test?

The local college put on some security classes this summer. Seccuritypolicies, CEH type course, and a pentest course. I ran into the admin at the college afterwards. He asks I passed I said yeah, said I figured you would. Said I have a job for you I want to start doing pentesting with my side company we have a 10 gig link here so we may as well use it.
He was even going to give me old laptop with Kali linux on it to practice with. Said he'd have ready in a week or so though. I thought this is wrong on so many levels I don't have little experience with linux, decent knowledge of networking, but not much experience there either.
And something goes wrong his clients can probably sue the college or me instead of his little side company.
My dad works there and I guess no one likes or really trusts the admin. He's like if he's going to pay you...

Hello my fellow Spiceworks Avengers,I am seeking your help in figuring out my move to the virtual world (better late than never) for one of my clients.I currently have a Lenovo Thinkserver TS140, which is a small business server and Windows Server 2012 R2 running directly on the bare metal. This was done before I knew much about virtualization, and now I look back and I wish I can smack myself across the head for not going virtual then...The server is running Active Directory/DNS and is our only Domain Controller, hosting our QuickBooks data file, and is acting as a File Server. Please don't judge me too harshly as I will be immediately changing this configuration once I go completely virtual (E.g. adding multiple VM's for each role). The TS140 has an LSI MegaRAID 9266-4i http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816118173...

  • Who do you use to report to VMWare? [licensed]

One of my clients reports their usage each month to Ingram Micro which keeps their licensing current based off of average cpu/memory/disk usage. This type of contract/license is also supposed to keep their support contract up to date. Lately, IM has dropped the ball and now, when I need VMware support, I'm unable to submit a ticket. As a result, I want to shop licensing for my customer and see if I can save them some money at the same time.
So, what's the best reseller for vmware vCloud, vFabric, etc., or should I suggest a direct billing with vmware and eliminate the middleman?

Out of habit, I used SPEEDTEST but sometimes question the results.  For example, I sometimes get better tests using a server outside of the U.S.A in Europe than I do testing on a server that is in the next state.  I know there are factors to consider, but most out of continent tests are reporting better results than in continent.
So who do you use for speed testing?

  • What tools do you use for automating builds?

    Hi all Build Engineers,
what systems do you use for automating builds - do you use your own tools, or some opensource project?
If it is something public, which one it is, and what were the reasons to chose it?
We are thinking about using the Hudson system (http://hudson.dev.java.net/) for our developers, but would like to hear from other RE groups about their experiences too.
    Thanks,
    Karel

Tinderbox is another build monitoring tool. It does not show detailed steps of a build cycle. It only shows the final result : success or failed. But it can display build output for multiple platforms on the same page.
This is how the tinderbox build grid will look --> http://tinderbox.mozilla.org/showbuilds.cgi?tree=SeaMonkey

So I can sync two iPods to my iTunes account and sync the same digital copy movies that come with some o' my DVDs to both ipods? Do movies make a difference really, DRM-Wise? Thanks in advance.

  • B2B software package you use for AS2

    Hi All,
We are using Oracle 10G B2B. We are adding a new supplier. Our new supplier asks " what is your B2B software package you use for AS2"
I said " Application server integration B2B of version 10.1.2.3.0", then immediately he replied
"I could not find Oracle Application Server Integration B2B 10.1.2.3 listed on the Drummond Group website for AS2 interoperability certification. Would the software package be listed under another name?"
Could you please help us to reply his question..

    Hi,
Ask your supplier to check the AS2-3Q05 report of Drummond group. It is available at below link -
    http://www.drummondgroup.com/html-v2/as2-archive.html
You can find Oracle Application Server 10g (10.1.2) listed here. Also give him the refernce of below doc -

  • Which tool do you use for load testing?

Which tool do you use for load testing for J2EE application?

    hi,
i use jmeter for without issues..
first make sure that the system from where you are doing load testing is in the same lan(without firewall) to that of server. Here you are testing the capacity of server and not the network bandwith.
So assuming very good network connection what is the servers performance level...
If u have to decide which tool is decent enough to load testing,
i would suggest go for jmeter. its reliable and i have used it without problems.
Here is my quick tutorial for jemeter which i made for my teams reference.
    REFERENCE
For Getting Started refer to any tutorial for Jmeter
You can refer to introduction on
              http://jakarta.apache.org/jmeter/usermanual/
    RUNNING LOAD TEST
         Extract jakarta-jmeter-2.3RC4.zip in c:
         install jdk-1_5_0_12-windows-i586-p.exe
         Run C:\jakarta-jmeter-2.3RC4\bin\jmeter.bat
In Test Plan add Thread Group
Right Click Thread Group -> Add->Sampler->HTTP Request
Select HTTP Request added fill details
              Serverip:www.xyz.com
              Port:80
              Path:/xyz-webapp/index.jsp
              Use KeepAlive: Checked
Retrive All Embeded images from HTML: Checked(For geting images inside html)
Right Click Thread Group -> Add->Listner->Graph Results
Click on Thread Group Fill details
No of Threads:3(This means no of simultaneous users)
Ramp Up Period:1(3 Request will be made in 1 second period)
Loop Count:5(Above process should be repeated how many times)
         Save TestPlan
         Run -> Clear All
         Run -> Start
Click on Graph Results for Output
Try adding different listener in Thread Group
              Thread Group -> Add->Listner->Summary Report
Listeners coud be added at thread group level or HTTP Request Level
    RECORDING A TEST.
Add a HTTP proxy server in workbench by right clicking on it and selecting Add->Non test Element->HTTP Proxy Server.
In Test Plan Add Thread Group
In HTTP proxy server select Target Controller as Test Plan > Thread Group.
Go to Internet Explorer and go to internet settings and set proxy server as localhost and the port
which is configured in Jmeter proxy server.Save Settings.
In Jeter proxy server start by Clicking on Start button in the HTTP Proxy Server Flap.
In browser navigate the application which you want to test.
The nodes will be added in the Thread Group.
Once Navigation is done stop the proxy server and save the test plan from file menu.
    LOGGING INTO APPLICATION.
When we have to login into system and then navigate the system
we need a cookie to be tracked after login. This could be achieved
simply by Add -> Config Element -> HTTP Cooie Manager.
After adding the HTTP Cooie Manager simply run the test.
    LOOPING COUNTER.
When a request is made multiple parameter is sent to server.
Parameters are sent from the HTTP Request node added in the Thread Group
in "Send Parameter with the request" table.
If we run the loop count 10 times the parameters will be sent same in every request.
If you have to send parameters like user1,user2,user3,user4....
then add -> Pre processor -> Counter.
Put start as 1 and and Maximum as 10 or whatever required.
Put Referene name as iCtr or whatever.
         In the "Send Parameter with the request" in value column put user${iCtr}

  • Which bag do you use for 14 inch wide screen?

Which bag do you use for 14 inch wide screen?
I got confused when searching for possible candidates. Almost all wide screen bags are designed for 15.4 inch. Few 14 inch bags are fit only for the normal 4:3 screen.
Any advice from you are welcomed!
    Many thanks!

    Hello,
Other brands you might want to look at are Brenthaven, Case Logic, Eagle Creek, EastPak, EZM, Jan Sport, Kensington, Swiss Army, Targus and Trager.  There is also an earlier message thread here in the forum discussing carrying options, and a quick search of the Internet found some messages here, here and here that you might find of interest.
There really are lots of different solutions when it comes to carrying your ThinkPad, so it might be best to visit a few computer, electronics, office supply and sporting goods stores to find something you like and meets your needs (and budget).  If you do not have your ThinkPad to yet, consider either bringing  a tape measure or a piece of cardboard cut to the dimensions to "test" with bags.

  • Which Bag do you use for your Camera? What about the GadgetBag 300EG?

Which Bag do you use for your Camera? What about the GadgetBag 300EG?

I agree - it's all about preference.  I use the ThinkTank Retrospective 7.  I *love* ThinkTank's attention to detail...  everything from having a rain cover included with the bag, to having ingenius use of velcro (sp?) patches to enable you to "silence" the bag so it doesn't make the big "SCRATCH" sound when opening the bag during a quiet event, etc.
My best advice would be to do your research (which you're clearly doing) and have a clear understanding of the return policy wherever you buy it, and then don't be afraid to return it if you get it and feel it doesn't meet your needs.  A restocking fee is a small price to pay to not be stuck with a bag that doesn't work for you.  And if for any reason you get it and can't return it, there's always eBay.

  • What camera raw default settings would you use for the Canon 5D Mark 3. I have PS CS6.  Thank you.

What camera raw default settings would you use for the Canon 5D Mark 3. I have PS CS6.  Thank you.

Really, this is a question you should be asking yourself...
What do you shoot? Makes a difference...
Typical ISO that you shoot? Makes a difference...
Shooting for clients or yourself? Makes a difference...
Look, there is no magic bullet...the ACR/LR "Default" should only be changed for those adjustments you make 70-90% of the time and sould not be confused with image by image adjustments...
So, as asked, your question can not really be answered other than to say, use a default that suits you.

  • What Monitor or Speaker do you use for Mastering?

    Hi,
As a home studio owner, what Monitor or Speaker do you use for Mastering?

Unless you have acoustically correct room, you will always have problems with low bass. That's why you need a pair of headphones that can produce sounds from 5Hz to 25kHz. I have BeyerDynamic DT770's but there are lot of others good quality headphones when you use that Hz criteria.
I use Genelec 8040's which have enough dip switch settings to match it to the room. They are also quite small (metal enclosure walls are only couple mm thick) and since all the walls are round there are no resonances or standing waves inside the box. That means they will sound accurate even at louder mixing volumes.
Btw the reason NS10 were used years back, was that they mimicked the average crappy home speakers, but still had tightly aligned sound. My old studio manager blamed all the terrible 1980's records on them, which you can hear if you compare them to today's remastered versions.

I am using ERwin® Data Modeler r7.1 (7.1.1.1207). It supports most new features of Oracle 10g such as hash, list, composite hash, setting LOB storage properties etc.
We just upgraded from version 4 recently. In the old version, I had to manually modify the generated scripts.
ERWin r7 supports all Oracle 10g (Release 2) new features we need for our projects. It offers far more functionality and options than the old version. It supports all partition types in Oracle 10g: Range, Hash, List, Composite-Hash and Composite-LIST and offers more storage settings.
Another nice new feature of ERWin r7 is that it offers purge option in the DROP TABLE statement. In Oracle 10g, the recycle bin contains all the dropped database objects until you permanently drop them with the PURGE option. Otherwise, you will see many funny looking objects like this: 'BIN$0+ktoVChEmXgNAAADiUEHQ==$0'.
With the purge option, you don't need to purge the recycle bin after the forward engineering.
    SQL> purge recyclebin;
    My favorite is Oracle Designer.
