  • Have you sucessfully overclocked you K8N Neo FSR? Plz post details.

    Hi guys !
Im still stuck with my system that does NOT want to be overclocked so I wanted to know if I'm the only one or not ?
If you have managed to overclocked you system using K8N Neo FSR please post you details.
And I'm also looking for tips on how to bypass issues related to unsucessful overclocking.
    Thank You.
I've managed to do this so far...
    A64 3200+ NewCastle CG-stepping @ 210x11 vCore 1.55
    Corsair Value Select DDR 400 @ 3-3-3-8-2T VDimm 2.70
    using official BIOS version 1.4
    But that's it...
If I increase vDimm above 2.75 = NoBoot/Unsucessful Windows Login
If I increase FSB above 210 = NoBoot/Unsucessful Windows Login
    If I set FSB 230x10 = NoBoot/Unsucessful Windows Login
If I set timings to higher values e.g. 3-5-5-10 = NoBoot/Unsucessful Windows Login

    Gen,
I found a few interesting things last night.  1st, I was having a problem with my CPU and Northbridge fans throttling down to about 1/3 speed after a few minutes of use.  I disabled the Northbridge and CPU target fan settings in BIOS.  You can find these options in the System Health menu of your BIOS.  Also, if you have enabled the "Optimized" option in your BIOS, please disable it and set to "manual".  The only option I've found to help is to select "Aggessive" timings for your memory.  It doesn't change your speed in the BIOS for some reason, but it does do something else because my memory bandwidth is about 60 more with this setting enabled instead of disabled (3430 Int / 3430 Float in Sandra 04 versus 3493 / 3496 with the setting enabled.  OF ALL THINGS MAKE SURE TO DISABLE THE "OPTIMIZED" function and leave it set at manual.  Also, shoot me your current memory timings one more time.  Are you using BIOS rev. 1.4?  Let me know.  Sorry it takes so long between posts, but I check from both work and home and it's usually several hours between getting chances to check for updated posts.  I didn't have to reduce the HT setting on my overclock (I'm still running 4X), but I've read several posts where a setting of 3X will help if you're having problems o/cing.  Also, on your memory timings make sure and set your DRAM to FSB ratio at Auto.  This allows the memory to sync with your FSB speed.  And, I don't remember if I mentioned it before, but be sure to set your AGP speed to 67 (66 is the default).  At a setting at 67 it will positively lock your PCI and AGP clocks to 67 and 33 respectively, making sure that you aren't overstressing any of your PCI devices or you video card.

  • S3 mode doesn't work fine on K8N Neo-fsr since overclocking, please help!

    I have a K8N Neo-FSR (MS-7030) BIOS version 1.6 (I tried 1.4, 1.5), running AMD64 2800+ SK 754, 2x 256MB DDR400 Kingston valueram pluging in slot 1&2. It runs well except S3 mode    .
Since I overclock HTT (everythings else have their own default values), S3 mode seems to work so crazy . After wake up from this usefull stop-grant standby mode, HTT is given back to its original speed, 200MHz, without notice (?!)  .
You know that I don;t like this much, do you?
Who responsible for this function? Mainboard or CPU? If it's mainboard, which department will be sentenced, BIOS or chipsets/ICs?
Could anybody give me a solution to achive higher speed by overclocking without giving up using S3?
    Thanks so much!

It's a bad new! I had bad feeling about DFI with the same problem, S3 mode resuming bring FSB back to df and even sometimes led the system to the ruin. But upgrading bios solved this issue. My old Abit did S3 mode fine. Now I have a new MSI and once again I must use teknophyle's way or slow hibernation instead.
On the same occasion, I wana ask about some shortcoming in 1.6 bios: power on by keyboard/mouse and power led options. I only found S3 wake up by keyboard/mouse but not keyboard/mouse power-on options! There is power led option in version 1.56 but it disapeared in 1.6. Now my mobo has no signal to differentiate between sleep and power-off. would you give back the useful power led option and add power on by combination keys in the near future bios version, syar? Look forward to hearing some good new from you :D.

  • BIOS FOR K8n neo platinum

A while back there was a big post about how to properly upgrade your bios and he had listed every bios beta or official for download.  Anyone have that post? and What is the best bios for the K8n Neo platinum? Im still running on 1.1....

Just the usual bios to bios temp tweak - no worries
Have been running with speedfan with a 4C offset think i can dith it now with 1.8
    Higher or lower?
Hmmm... My SpeedFan is running with no delta adjustments on the temps. I wonder if there is a discrepancy in what it's reporting & what it actually is after you boot into Windows
I'd try to go by what the Hardware Monitor says, but temp's always seem to be high when you're in BIOS anyway....

  • Modded bios for K8N Neo-54G Platinum

    Hi,
i've noticed that there are some modded bios versions available for the K8N (i.e. at syar2003's collection). My question is now whats the difference between them and the MSI versions (especially between the latest 1.56 versions)?
Edit: Has anyone allready used the modded bios 1.56 and has he got any performance boost?

Hehe , don't consider yourself a retard for this .
MSI's naming of theese boards is pretty simular and can cause theese
kinds of confusions .You are not the first one .
Anyway it was good you got the mishap resolved so quick
and got up and running again.
Look for radical_53 's post he has made a "Neo2" bios with nvraid ide rom bios 4.66 . Send him a message and he will email it to you ,i'm sure.
Vdimm voltage is not coming any higher i think , either for Neo1 or Neo2 .
Guess it has to do with board design , selection of regulator IC , and
the fact that msi runs mem from the 3.3v line (some voltage level will always be missed due to the components and regulation)
If you want really high vdimm there is just one way and that is hardmodding
the motherboard and that can be a risky affair bothe for board/mem and cpu
    if things go wrong.
Other alternative is another mobo .
DFI's s754 takes vdimm from +5v and there is a modded bios that gives upto 4v for memory. They have a s939 board ready thats being betatested , but it's not released yet.
MSI K8N boards have pretty desent max vdimm compared to many others .
This is what i have found on some others :
    Gigabyte max VDIMM 2.7v
    MSI K8N Neo2 VDIMM 2.85v
DFI Lanparty UT VDIMM 4.0v (s754 with modded bios)
    Asus K8N VDIMM 2.8v (some PCB's max 2.7v)
    Epox VDIMM 2.8v
    Chaintech VDIMM 2.9v

  • New Bios for K8N Neo 2?

I belong to the overlockers.com forum. People over there are dropping MSI's left and right because of stability issues and overclocking problems. This is not to mention the quirky temp readings and vcore settings. It seems that some of these issues could be addressed by a new bios. These same issues have been fixed by Epox with their bios updates. When is MSI going to get this done? I suggest it should be soov or the reputation of this board and MSI are going to ake a beating.

  • Cannot find the Power Led connector for JFP1 to connect on K8N Neo FSR

    Hi,
I have just bought the MSI K8N Neo FSR (MS 7030) to build a new computer with (amongst others) an Athlon 64 3000 processor and an Enermax 3051 case.
I can't even get a start: if I click on "Power" I just get a red light under the Power button for 1 second and nothing start.
This may be related with the fact that I did not find a "Power LED" connector for JFP1 (I have connected all the others connectors, including the Power LED one for JFP2).
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Precisions:
At the beginning, I had forgotten to connect the ATX 12V power connector on JPW1.
After having done that without getting an improvement, I did a Clear CMOS (after having unplug the power cable).
Now the CPU fan begins to turn just when I switch the power on from back of the case (and not from the power button) and stops turning after five seconds.
Sometimes, I get an orange light during 1/2 second on the D-bracket LEDs.

evidently if he fixed it, the solution was posted elsewhere
so what have you tried so far? has this system ever worked?
post your PSU specs. try powering up board outside the case in case there is a short somewhere
I have tried a different power unit, different JFP1 configerations, removing and replacing MB battery, changing the jumper settings on JBAT1 to clear CMOS.
Everything is just dead, no power anywhere. I get the fan light inside the Power unit to light up for 1 second when i connect the power cable and thats it. Its a 450 Watt power unit so it should be plenty. Maybe i will try removing the board and starting it that way.
This system has never worked, i just built it.

Tjena Rikard! You have to describe your system in some detail.
    Some famous culprits:
    - Other PCI-cards.
    - Poor or old Windows installation.
    - Weak PSU.
    - IRQ problem.
    - A combination of all or any of above.
The network card is not a PCI-one, but integrated to the motherboard. Only card in the system is a PCI-E graphic.
Maybe poor or old windows, might try that...
Shouldn't be weak PSU, It's pretty good, I've been told.
    IRQ?

  • Weird problem with k8n neo fsr

    hello!
i have weird problem with my K8N Neo-fsr and Athlon 64 2800+ socket 754, when i try to overclock i change in bios HT from 4 to 3 (for better stability), after restart nothing happen, my pc wont boot, also nothing on screen, so i must clear cmos for solve my problem and set to 4   i try several bioses from official to moded also pinochio`s and syar`s moded and allways the same issue    is it problem with processor? or motherboard?
thanx for your help and sorry for my english

You should first get down cpu ratio, then get up cpu fsb and as you wanted set ht frequency from 4 to 3 and "save changes and exit" if it doesn't boot change you psu (at least antec 380 or tagan) or go fast to send back your mobo to reseller!!

  • Good News For K8N Neo Platinum Users!!!

Ok, after fiddling with my BIOS for almost 2 days now, and scanning the forums for a solution, I contacted MSI Technical Support in California, USA. They are sending me a new BIOS chip, free of charge, so anyone having a severe problem with BIOS revisions 1.8 and 1.9 on the K8N Neo Platinum (MS-7030) please give tech support a call, I let them know I would be posting this in the forum and they will be inandated with phone calls, but woohoo, they are sending a new chip pre-flashed with BIOS revision 1.7.
Please refer to this thread for the reasons why:BIOS v1.9 Is Terrible

What good news?  UK based MSI did not offer any such replacement bios after my problems updating to 1.8 bios.
I purchased a new bios chip with 1.9 bios from a UK supplier.....after fitting the bios I returned to the same problems as before, failure to boot past post and freezing in bios menu. I then remembered another post on this sight and removed one stick of memory......everything back to normal    .I have just fitted a 1gb Corsair cas 2 memory and all seems well I will save my 2X 512 Corsair XL my next project which will not be a MSI Motherboard
MSI UK  have not come out of this very well and from the posts that I have read there are quite a few people out there with problems. Many thanks to all those who posted on this,  it certainly helps to know that you are not the only one with problems.

  • K8N Neo FSR Bios overclocking functions help needed

Hi all, I am a small pc builder for the family and i have found some problems with the bios of my uncles K8N neo FSR which I recommended for him. Basically it wouldn't seem to overclock with the 'Dynamic Overclocking' function on bios v1.7 but did manually by adjusting FSB incrementally (ie from 200 to 205 Mhz). When I questioned this before someone had mentioned that it could be ok to run like this. However I have since updated the bios to v1.9 and even v2.1 as they became available but now neither seem to overclock manually nor using 'Dynamic overclocking'
Firstly though, can someone clear up my first conception; To test if the Dynamic Overclocking function is working can I set it to a higher setting (ie.'Commander'), save and exit bios (restarting) ---> go straight back into bios ----> go straight back into Cell Menu and check 'Current frequency of cpu' has changed?
I only ask this as if this is the case then my Dynamic Overclocking function hasn't worked with three bios' and I wont bother with anything until I RMA the board lol, as I have never been able to change the frequency of my cpu at boot/bios stage with the dynamic overclocking function.
    Can anyone help me?

Hi Stu, yesterday I think i found out what u mean lol. I studied a 'Sticky' ? about overclocking A64s and found some interesting stuff. Apparently overclocking the HTT is dangerous, and A64s are always at least half locked. Now with this in mind Ive been wondering if there are interlocks built into my mainboard stopping me from using the 'CPU Overclock' function to overclock my pc manually from the set 200Mhz while my HTT is still set at 4x. -I say this as the HTT on my system is 800Mhz for a socket754 Sempron 3000Bx, thus overclocking this would increase my HTT above the 800Mhz threashold (I think) lol. All sounds complex but I think Ive figured it out as Im following instructions from the sticky to lower my HTT multiplier before increasing my cpu overclock. Its hard as my mainboard has Nforce3 chipset which has different ways of overclocking to every other board lol. So far I have managed to increase the overclock, but only when the HTT multiplier is lowered to 3x. I have also lowered my cpu multiplier though, and thus am trying to figure out where my 1810Mhz clock speed has changed to 1630 lol. Will try again now. I want to raise the clock speed above 1810, keeping the HTT lower than 800 and leaving the memory alone at 400DDR lol. Im hoping the memory is seperate as it seems to be on this chipset.

  • Which drivers for K8N Neo 2 Platinum

I'm just about to place an order for a K8N Neo2 Platinum to go with my AMD 64 3000+ Winchester.
As is usual I normally download the latest relevant BIOS and drivers in advance so everything is ready to go when the hardware turns up.
However, looking at the MSI page, there seems to be a bewildering array of drivers for this board: Neo2 drivers and it's not exactly clear which ones are for my specific board.
For example, I can't seem to find a relevant SATA driver from the list.
The actual board I'm going for is this one from Overclock: link to board
Can anyone list clearly the drivers, BIOS and any other utilities I will need when installing this board?
    Thanks.

Well after a lot of reading, I've determined that the following files are applicable to my board:
    BIOS
    BIOS: 7025v14.zip
    Drivers
    NVIDIA nForce3 System Drivers: NF3_CK8S.zip
    Marvell LAN Drivers: MarvellWXP69.zip
Realtek ALC Series AC'97 Audio Drivers: Realtek_ALCXXX_73.zip
I still can't seem to find a SATA/IDE driver as none of the ones listed are compatible with a Neo2 Platinum.
The closest I can find is the Nvidia nForce3 SATA/RAID driver for Windows 2K/XP but that is only for K8N Neo Platinum (7030).
Anyone know if this is the same driver for the Neo2 Platinum (7025) also?
    Have I missed anything?
There are also lots of utilities, some of which appear to be useful, if not necessary:
    Utilities
    NVIDIA nTune: nTune_MB.zip
    MSI DigiCell: DigiCell_MB.zip
    MSI PC Alert 4: PCAlert4_MB.exe
    MSI Core Center: CoreCenter_MB.exe
    MSI Live Update: LiveUpdate.exe
    Fuzzy Logic 4: FuzzyLogic.exe
    MSI DMI Browser: DMIBrowser.exe
    MSI i-Speeder: I-SPEEDER.exe
    MSI WMI Info: WMIInfo.exe
    MSI PasswordKeeper: PasswordKeeper.exe
    MSI SecureDoc: SecureDoc.exe
    MSI InfoView XP: InfoView.exe
    MSI GoodMem: insgoodmem.exe
    MSI Lockbox: LockBox.exe
Anyone care to comment on the usefulness (or not) of any of those utilities?

  • MSI K8N NEO-FSR BIOS Flash Corrupt

So there was an updated BIOS for my motherboard version 1.8 while I had 1.7. I went ahead and updated and it went fine. But then I noticed that my CPU speed was dramatically reduced and the multiplier was set to 5.0 giving me a 1ghz CPU. While I thought maybe the CMOS needed to be cleared I went ahead and did that but to no avail I wasnt able to fix that problem. I went over to the MSI Live Update to check for a new BIOS update and it had said that I had 1.8 version while the current version is 1.7. Just a few days before it said 1.8 was the latest. Hmmm. So I went off to the MSI website to find version 1.7 and downloaded it. To my surprise version 1.8 was available on the MSI website. I used the WinFlash program to flash my BIOS. Before doing so I closed all open applications including anti-virus, browsers, chatting programs, and so forth. But the flash was going VERY slow and it stopped with unable to verify bios. This made me scared pooless. After I restarted to no surprise my computer started up with BIOS Checksum error and asked for a floppy. I didn't have a floppy drive connected at the time but the computer shut itself off automatically. So I went and connected and floppy and looked up online at the MSI website about how to recover the BIOS. I found it and for my AWARD bios i followed the procedure. But each time it detects the floppy drive and then the computer shuts itself off. Even if i have no disc inside the floppy drive it'll shut off. Is it supposed to do this? I am unable to reflash my BIOS because of this behavior. I don't know what the cause of this problem is now. Did maybe the recovery portion of the BIOS get corrupted too? Please help. Let me know if you need any more information. Thanks in advanced. My specs are below btw:
    MSI K8N NEO FSR
    AWARD REV. 1.8
    AMD ATHLON 3200+ 754
    PDP 2x512MB RAM
    NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra
    Ultra-X 500watt
WD 160GB IDE, Seagate 200GB IDE
    Pioneer D-A07
Windows XP SP2, Gentoo Linux, Ubuntu Linux

Okay I tried taking unnecessary stuff out but it didn't help. I'm actually having the same problem this guy is having : https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=86508.0
Hmm looks like i might be in for a new motherboard or i can try the RMA process but I dont know how long that will take. Other than that...I dont know what to do. I could buy myself a new bios flash chip but they're damn expensive and I'd rather just buy a new motherboard. On another note I noticed that when I boot up the pc and i see that it detects the floppy I immediately pressed the reset button but it'll still shut down. So it's as if there is a timer somewhere. What the hell is up with this? It also seems MSI didn't release bad BIOS releases for my board only. Seems like people with other boards are having tons of problems with the latest BIOS releases.
