Who is accessing my network?

I have given the password to the wireless network to a select few. How can I find out who is accessing the network at any given time?

In Airport Utility, under summary, you should see "wireless clients" and a number. Click wireless clients and you will see the addresses. But that is just those at that given time. And you will need to know the MAC address.

    I bought an Airport Extreme Base Station for my roommate and I to share. I set up the network, and I can access the network and get on the internet, but she cannot. She can access the network and gets an excellent signal, but it is just a local connection which does not let her access the network. She is using a PC. Is there an administration setting that I need to change in the Airport utility to let more than one computer access the internet?
    The user manual is does not describe any of the settings are modes. It is surprisingly awful, compared to the other Apple products I own.

    I can help with a few of these things, but I was under the assumption that once the administrator, me, set up a wireless network that people who wanted to use it could just log-on.
    When we turned on her wireless card she scanned for networks, the one in our apartment came up first, I gave her the password to log in, but when she logged in and tried to connect to the internet, it said that the network is local only, cannot connect to the internet.
    How do I go through setting up the internet, through her computer where it would give me the options, like DHCP, etc? She is using Windows Vista. If I got to a menu like that I can just type in that information to match the information I have in my airport utility.
    The network information I set up using airport utility on my computer are Ethernet using DHCP. Everything else is on the default setting, and Connection Sharing is set to Share a Public IP address.

    On your Mac....
    Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click on the AirPort Express icon
    Look for Wireless Clients to see the number of currently connected devices. If you have 2 wireless devices and you see 3 wireless clients, you may have an uninvited guest on your network.

    I strongly recommend you password protect your network right away. It doesn't matter who is on your network if even one person is unauthorized. That person could easily get into private data through your network, or simply piggy back onto your Internet connection for a free ride.
    If you click on the Network icon in your Finder window, it will tell you the names of all the computers connected together on the local subnet. However, an intruder need not network with the other machines in your system to take advantage of your Internet connection. For example, I have 2 Macs using the Net via my base station. They are not necessarily connected to each other. I can use the Net with both machines at once, but until I actually use Network to connect them together I can't access one machine from another, and I can't see whether or not my other machine is using the Network or not.
    On top of that, I have to have Personal File Sharing turned on to share files between 2 machines. You can change these settings in Sharing under System Preferences. That can keep intruders out of your system, but may not tell you who is logged into your subnet unless they Network, or if they have file sharing turned off on their system.
    I'm not sure if there is a way to see if you have any freeloaders via an IP address.

    I want to be able to see who is accessing my wireless network.  Is there any way to do this given I'm running Airport Express 7.6.3?  I'm running OSX 10.7.5 on my Macbook pro.  THere was a link posted in a forum dated 2006 for this, but the page in question no longer exists.

    Not easily. If you identified a MAC Address that you did not want to be on the network, I suppose that you could set up Timed Access to never allow that particular MAC Address to connect to your network. 
    But, you would have to restart the AirPort for the changes to take effect.....temporarily knocking everyone else off for 30 seconds or so.
    This would only work for wireless clients, not any Ethernet clients.

  • After upgrade to Server 4 Website setting  "who can access" cannot use networkgroups anymore

    i have a couple of website's where i limited the access by using the Who can Access. (Used a network Group)
    after the upgrade to server-4 
    people can't login anymore although they're using the right credentials
    the login screen pop's back up as if the pasword is not correct.
    logging in on the server with that same account still works - so the OD seems oké
    after hours of trying all sorts of things i've managed to get it a bit working by creating on the server local groups and make network users member of that local group. And then use the Local group in the Who can Access
    Its a work around but i'm not happy with this upgrade!!!!!!

    My first question!!  How can I find out who is accessing my WRT54G wireless router?  I don't know where to go to find out if someone else is accessing it.

    1. Enable wireless security WPA2 with a strong (random, longer) passphrase. Then you know that only persons who know the passphrase are able to connect wireless and only persons who are able to access the LAN ports on the router. This saves you the trouble thinking about who accessed your router.
    2. The Status page of the router (you did not mentioned the model and version as printed on the label underneath) will probably have a Lan Network page. There you can see the DHCP client list. It contains all non-expired DHCP leases. Any computer (wired or wireless) which connects to your LAN and requests an IP address through DHCP should be listed there. It does not show computers which use a static IP address.
    3. Somewhere hidden on the Wireless tab, MAC Address Filtering, enable the filtering temporarily if not done yet, press edit and then the button with the wireless client list (I hope you'll find it on your router). It shows all active wireless links. This shows all computers connected wireless regardless of DHCP or not.
    4. It is not possible to identify a computer which is wired to the router and uses a static IP address. You'll have to check the ports on the router and maybe any other switch to which it is connected. But I guess for most homes this should be no issues.

  • Read-only file access from network volume

    I get an read-only file access from network volume problem while sharing a drive from Snow Leopard to a Tiger install. Most of files were opening well, but *.fp7 (FileMaker) and *.xls (Excel) files won't open dealing with a read-only error.
    As descibed in the last post of http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1406977 the client have the same share name of the server. Renomming it resolved the error!

    right then, as it looks like I'm talking to myself....
    I have just wiped clean the Macbook Pro.
    I installed Leopard from scratch, then installed Office 2008.
    Logged back onto the network share, and the read-only error came up again, ONLY in Excel.
    bugger.
    Did the same thing with my Macbook and all is fine.
    Copy the file to the local hard drive, opens ok.
    I then copied the file to another Mac on the network.
    mmmm, opens fine.
    what's the difference....
    mmmm, the machine it opens fine from is running 10.4
    the machine which hosts all the data is running 10.3.9
    could this be the problem.
    Just done a software update check on the 10.3 machine and there are some security updates that need doing.
    Going to run that now and see what happens, otherwise I think the iMac running 10.3.9 is going to need to come up to 10.4 and fingers crossed this will solve it.

    I have an ASA 5505 with ipsec VPN configured on it.  I am able to  connect to the ASA but I can't ping a connected network.  I get a dhcp  assigned address in the network I am trying to reach but can't access  that network on Vlan5.  Please help.

    I think final questions, can you have two nat statements that point to the same acl ie.

    access-list no_nat extended permit ip 192.168.5.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.5.0 255.255.255.0
    nat (inside) 0 access-list no_nat

    nat (fw-civic) 0 access-list no_nat

    Or do I need to create a new acl for the fw-civic interface?

  • VPN Clients can't access DMZ Network

    Hello,
    I will try to describe my problem as best as possible. The title says VPN clients cannot access DMZ network, but that is not exactly the problem, the situation is this, a group of users are using an actual 10.x network where they have their servers and pretty much everything. The users must be relocated into a new network, the 172.16.x.  In a point in time they will not have to use 10.x anymore, but meanwhile, they need access to that network.
    I have an ASA 5510 as default gateway for the new network (172.16.x.x), one interface e0/0 connected to the outside (internet), interface e0/1 to the inside and other interface connected to the actual 10.x (which I call DMZ), so basically I am using the ASA as a bridge using NAT to grant access to the users in the network 172.16.x to the resources in the 10.x network while the migration is completed.
    All the users must use the path to the internet thru the ASA using the NAT overload to the outside interface and I put in place a NAT policy to 10.x to allow access to the 10.x network only when the internal users 172.16.x try to reach that path and so far, everything is working just fine for the internal users.
    Now for some reason, when I do VPN, the VPN clients cannot reach the 10.x network, even when they are supposed to be in the internal network (because they are doing VPN right?) .
    I have enabled split tunneling with NAT exempt the 172.16 network and I am not sure if that is causing the problem, because when I trace from my PC the 172.16.16.1 address using the VPN I get the proper route path, but when I try to reach 10.x, my PC is using its default gateway and not the VPN gateway which has a route to 10.x.
    I’m not even sure if what I am trying to do is possible, I want VPN users to be able to access a 10.x network using NAT overload with the Interface of the ASA plugged to the 10.x network, just like the internal users are doing right now.
    Any help or advice will be highly appreciated.

    Allow clients to access DMZ, add exempt NAT rule, add both the "same-security-traffic" thru cli. Please give it a try.

    I recently unlocked my iphone 4. I am trying to use it on Net 10's network. However, i cannot access the network settings. I have the Net10 Sim already in it. A few notes listed below of what i have tried:
    1.) I downloaded the iphone configuation utility. But  cannot get the right settings to apply. (so if you have the correct ones i could use those)
    2.) i have watched 1000 youtube videos and been on practically every page online and tried 1000 different versions of APN settings through the configuration
    3.) I do not have another SIM card from another carrier to try.
    Open to suggestions on how i can get the APN settings to change. Not worried about picture messaging or anything, but would like my internet to work. Calls and text work fine.

    i have seen this option..problem being...i dont have access to WIFI i live in the middle of ten buck too! We cant even get internet out here i have to go a friend house to get internet. I was going to try that once i did get to town but was looking for other options here at home frist.

    Leopard sets your mac to avoid being a master browser so you don't see other shares in finder.
    There are many ways around it but if you run a network with few machines and that is the only mac the fastest is to launch terminal as administrator and issue the following command:
    sudo pico /etc/hosts
    Add a line at the end with the IP address of your NAS, this is what I have in my hosts
    192.168.0.100 Netdrive
    Hit option X and save the file. Reboot the machine the NAS will come up immediately
