Who is learning Photoshop through tutorials/ books?

I was just wondering whether there are a lot of people that are studying Photoshop on their own through tutorials and adobe classroom in a book for example?
I wish to know if you think it is possible to become really acquainted with the program without following special courses.

I think most of the regular posters on this forum have used Photoshop for many years.   I started with version 4 back in 1996.  But the lev eland qualiy of the tutorials is massively better now, and I think a keen person could become familia in a few months.  The problem is that there are some very roundabout and clever ways of coming at things with Photoshop, and you would definitely need a lot of time to get all those on board.
Basically, you never stop learning, but that's part of the fun, and what keeps it interesting.

  • Learning Photoshop CS2 - Books, tutorials courses ?

    Hi everyone!
I would firstly like to apologise if this topic has been covered in depth but i am desperately looking for the right book/s as a Christmas present to ensure that my girlfriend learns Photoshop CS2 with ease. I have some experience in Photoshop and have been doing an IT degree here in New Zealand for the past 4 years but Im not a designer so i really need your guys help!
I also appreciate that there are so many books out there but have found that some dont go into enough depth or lack the variation in examples to significantly cover what photoshop has to offer. I was initially thinking that a couple of books might be necessary to take her from beginner to advanced.
Background - She has just finished a degree in Fashion design & Art with straight As. She has always excelled in arts and photography but has lately found her self-doing graphics based contract work for fashion designers. This has all been in Corel draw 11 and Corel photo paint 11. She has been using Corel products for about 6 years now but by no means considers herself an expert.
She now realises that shes needs a raster based program such as Photoshop that extends the functionality of Corel photopaint. She has also decided on going back to school to specialise in computer-aided design so she needs to learn Photoshop fast.
I think she is the person that appreciates step by step instructions by example but would also benefit from software based tutorials.
I was wondering if you good people would be able to suggest any text books that would cater to her needs.
I was also wondering if the full 700 dollars + version needs to be purchased as she is charging for the work that she does? I noticed that there were several licenses within the website, which one is appropriate. She is not studying at the moment but will be start again in a few months. Are their licenses that cover students that are selling their work?
Am I making the right assumption that she needs CS2? Is it that widely supported? Would it be better for her to by another version of Photoshop?
I would also like to thank you guys for taking the time to read this post and greatly appreciate any response.
    Paul

CS 2 is a must if she is working with high fashion photography.
like images from A canon Eos 1DS mark II
most digital photographers now adays use RAW obsessivly when they are unsure about the exposure by about a tenth of a stop in the highlights or maybe if they are dealing with more than one type of lighting and are worryed about white balance.
phase one capture one is a good progam to know if she is working with photographers, actualy the more you know about the photographers capture process the easyer it will be to learn about exactly what progam is best for you. If your not working with raw at all that CS 1 will do nicely

  • Can I use a Photoshop CS6 guide book I got in college to learn CC, or is there too many differences between CS6 and CC?

I have a guide book I got in college to help me learn Photoshop CS6, but I never finished the class. My question is: Can I use this book to learn Photoshop CC or is there too much diversity between CS6 and CC?

That's OK.  We race to be the first responder, because we are sad geeks, and first responder sounds like something from a TV reality program.  Benjamin actually has flashing lights and a siren on his computer.

  • Learning Photoshop CS4

I've just emptied my bank account and bought CS4 (omg!) and I'm a completely new user to Photoshop (apart from using the trial versions) so I wondered if anyone had any advice on a book to buy to help me learn Photoshop?
I know there's tons of tutorials on the web but I really prefer a hard copy on my desk to refer to.
What books have you read on PS that you would recommend?
    Thanks
    TM

emptied mine on the same, PLUS, printer, labtop, 2K of other software, 200$ worth (well, we'll see what they are 'worth) of books, Intuos 4 tablet, Corell Paint, Nik Software Collection, Lightroom 2, Photoshop Elements 7 and Adobe Premiere Elements 7.
AFTER ALL THIS.....  I STILL CANT GET CAMERA RAW TO WORK. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME? (please?)
    HOWEVER...
I know NOTHING - BUT - after extensive research on my : this is what I purchased ...  (my own opinion is simply that, plus other AMAZON users will show)  go to PEACHPIT and OREILLY and AMAZON for your books and see who has a better deal, sometimes, one will be like getting 2 books free by saving $$ OR if you need something special - go to Oreilly or PeachPit . they are a bit more expensive, but offer buy 2 get 3rd free type books. And have pretty cool resources on books too and PeachPit is a decent website to checkout.
I bought all of these at AMAZON: I did the research and it came out about 70$ cheaper (with all of these books)

  • Best ways to learn photoshop CS4?

    Hello,
First time poster here. I see from posts I've been reading here that many of you are experienced Photoshop users. I hope you can share some advices on best books or videos to help me learn Photoshop.
    What do you suggest?
    TIA
    Karl

Spend thousands of hours in front of your computer with this crazy application called Photoshop open!  ;)  First and foremost, I would read some books written by Dan Margulis....possibly "Professional Photoshop" which will give you a great understanding of color correction.  Also, join NAPP http://www.photoshopuser.com/ for however inexpensive it is and watch the video tutorials which are priceless and also able to be downloaded if you have Quicktime Pro, etc. Obviously there is no substitute for time actually working in an application, but different Photoshop seminars like Photoshop World can be helpful, reading books and online tutorials are great, and also some more advanced stuff once you really have a grasp in PS would be something like Dan Margulis's classes which are SUPER intense 3 day classes which propelled me above many of my colleagues in regards to how Photoshop should really be used and what it was intended for...not just running plastic wrap filters.  :)  Hope this helps!  @.

  • Best way to learn Photoshop?

    Hi there,
I'm trying to transition to a career as a graphic/web artist and before making the transition I was looking to take a photoshop and/or illustrator classes (preferably weekend classes) in the Los Angeles/Santa Monica area. I don't have photoshop on my computer so ideally I'd be able to find a class that had the program loaded on their computers already.
Any help and/or advice on how to become a graphic/web designer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for taking the time.

A student can buy the whole creative suite for $599 the cost of nonstudent purchase of Photoshop standard. The best way to learn Photoshop is to have it and use it. Click on every button, menu item, and pallet/panel. don't be afraid to look in every nook and cranny, I'm always surprised by the lazy people who ask the most basic questions all because they have not put the time into looking around the application.
seriously if you are going to spend all that money on the app It seems like you would want to spend some time going over it. Think of it as a video game and you must look at everything to win.
also if you only want it to crop pics and print them or put them up on a simple website Elements just might be a better choice

  • I am new to Photoshop, any recommended book to follow?

I am new to Photoshop, any recommended book to follow to learn?  Or what's the best way to learn how to use Photoshop?

The "CLassroom in a Book" is a pretty good start. Also be sure to download the PDF of the User Guide (not sure if it's up for CS6 yet).
A lot depends on what your background is, and what you mainly want to use Photoshop for - design, retouching, animation, etc.

  • Learning Photoshop

We are a small business that has traditionally outsourced our photoshop needs to a small business locally. However, the other business is getting much bigger and wants more work from us to continue the relationship. We have decided to try some of the stuff in house and we are looking for the best tutorials either off line or on line.

What kind of work are you trying to do in Photoshop? It may help to let us know a specific area(s) that you want to do in house so we can provide you with the appropriate tutorials/ directions.
Adove TV has some great tutorials that can get you guys started in the general direction.

Searching "Photoshop tutorial" on google will give you many free tutorial links. Same with Youtube

    Dear Gurus
We need to know the users machine / IP who are accessing forms through Oracle 9i Application Server, how can we find that?
    thanks in advance

    Mehmood,
Set serverURL=/forms90/f90servlet/session in the Forms Web configuration default section or add it to the URL to start tracing host name and ip-addresses from clients. The output appears in the servlet log file application.log. sessionperf , perf and debug are the other options instead of session.

I'm trying to burn my audiobooks on CDs.  Got through three books just fine, then my CD/DVD drive "disappeared."  I rebooted and got it back, but iTunes says, even after I un- and re-installed it, that it doesn't have the registries to burn CDs.  How can I retrieve this capability?  My audiobooks are from Audible.

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)
