Who is on my AE network?

Is there a way to see who is on my AE network or at least how many users?

Use the Airport Management Tools to find out which clients are connected via their unique MAC address.
Use WPA to stop unauthorised use.

  • Who's using your wireless network

Is there a program or anyway to show who's using a wireless network? Like a feature that shows a list of computers that are on the wireless network?
    thx

    Hi!
Usually, your router comes with a log file somewhere which you can use to look up the connections made. My DLink614+ uses this list to show the MAC addresses currently connected. My syslog makes references to attempts made. However all you can see is MAC addresses...

  • Who is on my wireless network? How do I tell?

Is there a way to tell who is on my wireless network? I have an Extreme Base Station and I want to know if there is a way to tell if my neighbors are on my network or not.

You can see the different machines that are connected to your base station using AirPort Utility, but you may not be able to tell who those machines belong to. You'd be better of putting security on your network by encrypting it with WPA. This will simply lock any offenders out. See the Wireless Security setting in the Wireless tab in AirPort Utility.

Yes. You can use the AirPort Utility to determine both wireless and DHCP clients connected to your AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS).
AirPort Utility > Manual Setup > Advanced > Logging & SNMP > Logs and Statistics > Wireless Clients or DHCP Clients

  • How can I check who is connected to my network?

    Hello,
can someone suggest me a tool or widget that allows me to verify who is connected to my private wireless network?
I am also looking for a tool or widget that warns me when a new user has entered the network.
    Thanks in advance
    Tom

If you use WPA then no unauthorised user will be able to connect to your network.
Depending on the age of your Mac, the Airport Management Tools will allow you to see who is connected to your wireless network.

  • Who is on my WiFi network?

I am using airport extreme in a windows environment. What widget or application can I use to show me who is logged on my WiFi network? Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
Assuming that AirPort Utility for Windows is sufficiently similar to the version for Mac, launch that program, enter "manual setup" mode for your AirPort Extreme, select the "Advanced" pane, then click on the "Logs and Statistics" button. In the resulting window you can see "Wireless Clients" under that tab and "DHCP Clients" under that tab. The "DHCP Clients" list may not show computers that are using a static IP address.

Unfortunately, the Time Capsule does not have this type of capabiltiy.
You would have to use another router.....Cisco and Netgear come to mind.....that would provide these types of features. I am sure that there are other routers that can do this as well.

  • Who is on my Airport Network?

I leave my Airport network open with no passwords, so everyone can easily use it.
How can I see who is logged on, and is it possible to monitor what they are looking up?
All I can find is the Airport Utility Logs page, which just shows a bunch of numbers and the start time...
Is there a program available to show me what's happening on my Airport network?
    Thanks,
    ShawnR

There may be other methods but Airport Utility's log really is a very good way to find out who (or what) is on your network. Look for the log entries saying "associated with station xx:xx:xx..." Those are MAC (media access code) addresses which correspond to the devices on the network, and are unique as fingerprints.
You should keep a post-it note somewhere with the MAC addresses of all your networked computers and other devices. They can usually be found on a printed label somewhere stuck on the outside of its enclosure. If one appears your log that you can't account for, there's someone piggybacking on your network.
There is no quick way I can think of to determine who or what that someone is doing though...

  • Who is this on my network ?

I've been having the IDisc go into sync mode even when it's in manual. But that's not my question. While looking at that problem, I saw this on my network window :
I have no Idea who kaia hawley is , and have never set-up a network with anyone. Whoever kaia is ... How do I get rid of them ?
    iMac4,1   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I take it that you're set up using Wireless, and that kaia hawley is some neighbor using Wireless, a Mac, and has File Sharing enabled.
You could do some Encryption... WPA2 preferably, or dependng on your setup, allow only certain MCC addies to connect.
Probably nothing sinister going on, in fact kaia hawley is more likely to be at risk than you!

  • How to share my iPad screen with someone else who is not on my network?

I'd like to share my iPad screen with someone else who has an iPad and is connected to the internet, but not on my WiFi. Is this possible? Any apps that do this?

Sorry, you can't do that unless they are on your LAN.  I don't know of any apps that will let you do it.

  • How do I find out who is on my Wifi network?

I'd like to find out if anyone has been stealing my wifi. All the other places I've looked don't have information for Macs.

Unless you're using your MacBook's Internet Sharing feature, this isn't a Mac issue as such. Your WiFi router should have both a screen that shows what systems are connected as well as connection logs. Consult the documentation for your router.
    Regards.

  • Is there a tool or way I can find out who has Acrobat on our network and what version they are running? How do you streamline Acrobat so everyone has the same version?

We have been buying licences per person, per computer for many years. There has to be a better way to deploy, keep inventory and track user licences. Any suggestions appreciated!

One way is to write a script that collects the GUIDs of the products on all machines. See the Admin Guide. A new way is possible with subscriptions: Cloud technology | Adobe Creative Cloud for small & medium business

  • Open Directory access from outside of network / internet

    Hello all,
Got a question I'd love to get some help on, I have some users who are outside of my network and I'd like them to connect into the open directory on our leopard server so they can use the Shared iCal calendars, addresses, etc.
So my questions are A) Is it possible to connect in from outside the network and get access to the directory without having to have a seperate user account and use our VPN every time you want to connect? - if not is this the only way to do it (would you have to connect via the Mac VPN and then connect to the directory?)
    B) is it possible to do this "seamlessly" so that you don't have to change any settings, login details each time you switch between your local user from outside the network and your directory access. (so basically if you are in iCal if you have internet access it will connect you to the directory, without you doing anything extra?)
Hope that makes sense, I can't seem to find the answers I need in the manuals, if I knew how this was meant to work I could probably have a fair go at figuring out how to actually do it (firewall changes etc)
Thanks in advance for the help
    Martin

If your OD server is visible from the internet -- i.e., it has a public address -- then you can do this without the VPN. However, it's not advisable to have a server exposed in that fashion.
You would be better off doing this through the VPN:
    - Remote user connects to internet at hotel, for example.
    - Remote user initiates VPN connection.
    - Remote user now has access to iCal server and directory information.
Explain to the users that this information is private to the company, and private company resources are only available through the VPN. Allowing access without the VPN would be similar to the company posting its Employee roster and meeting calendars on the face of the building where any person (or competitor) could see them.

It's just one extra step: Connect to VPN. You're still the same local user on the computer.
If you're talking about laptop users needing directory access to authenticate when logging into their computers, well...That sounds like a whole other situation.
    Hopefully this helps.

  • Seeing unknown servers on my network (Follow-up Question)

This is basically a further question as to the issues raised in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6803445&#6827736
Okay..... so i've gone searching trying to find something in regards to this problem and thus far have got nothing but it is more that i am worried from a security perspective who this extra "server" is. If it has been discussed at length please post a link to the solution please...
So i've got this "pc server" connected to my network under "mac001ec213105b" and have gone through the following steps:
    1. I was using an extreme (main) and express (repeater/extender) but after my brother got a new iMac there was no need for the express. So i've just got the extreme running, changed the network name, changed the name of the extreme, changed the password and it initially worked before it reappeared 10 minutes later.
    2. From another thread i went through the following (AirPort Utility > Manual Setup > Advanced > Logging & SNMP > Logs and Statistics) to see who was logged into the network. In wireless clients, all the computers running are accounted for however DHCP clients 3 different MAC addresses come up. One came up as soon as i turned on my ps3 and two i have no idea about.... One of them is in the Finder sidebar when connecting to shared computers and the other is a mystery?
So my question is who are the randoms? Obviously they don't have my password but can they still access my network without it? Or is it that i don't understand the definition of a "DHCP client" and if so could someone point me in the direction where i could find more info on it?

I remember in the previous versions of OS X, in system preferences>sharing it had an option "PC sharing" which is no longer available. Would this option be somewhere else in order for me to disable that type of functionality?
