So what???  If you want to do editing on another drive you can still launch the one and only copy that will work on your bloody machine, namely the one installed and activated on your startup drive.
Any other copies of Photoshop you have installed on different drives attached to your computer WILL NOT BE ACTIVATED, they won't even launch, they won't work at all!  However, they will confuse the hell out of the working copy of Photoshop.

  • Photoshop CS4 won't launch

I'm getting this error message "Could not open scratch file because the disk is not available."
The disk is mounted and on the desktop. All I did was go into photoshop CS4 and add another scratch area which is one of the Hard drives mounted on the desk top. I'm running the latest Leopard 10.5.7 my Mac is Dual-Core Intel with 9GB ram, The Hard drive I have Photoshop on is a new 1TB Seagate and a similar one using for the other scratch disk. I had just installed this new HD formatted it OK and Carbon copy cloned every thing from my back Up. I was running Photoshop for a while then I realized I wanted to add another scratch disk area (or disk). I quit Photoshop after I made the change and tryed to open it when I got the error.

  • Javabean for file up-/down-load to/from the database

    Dear all,
Has anyone any experience in client-side customizing/extending
through the use of standard JavaBeans or
Pluggable Java Components (PJCs) within the Oracle (Web-)Forms
Developer 6i environment? We want to realize the
    following:
By using a Java Bean within a (Web-)Forms 6i client that is
capable of file uploads to and file downloads from a database
    (end tier).
Important requirement is to uploads/downloads files (BLOB, CLOB)
directly to/from the database, NOT TO/FROM THE FILESYSTEM.
We have found a sample JavaBean on
    http://otn.oracle.com/sample_code/products/forms/content.html.
Unfortunately, this code is based on file transfering to/from
    the filesystem.
Is there someone who did customizations enabling file
uploads/downloads into/from the database? Are there any
    other suggestions?

I've not tried this out but in theory since a Java Bean is just
a piece of Java code you could do this using JDBC. However,
while you may have a valid reason for this, it really defeats
the purpose of having a middle tier. The idea behind the web
deployment is that the bulk of the application is on a powerful
server which makes the client as light weight as possible. If
you add more functionality to the client (which is not UI
specific) then you will increase the download to the client, you
will impact the system requirements for the client and you will
probably make the application less scalable (think about if yu
have 1000 clients with database connections for the middle tier
and now all 1000 want to connect from the client as well - yuo
double the access of the database)
SO the short answer is Yes yuo can in theory - in practice I
would be very careful in deciding to move this way.

  • Hey iFelix!

iFelix, your little help pages for XP users and airport access are great. However, I'm still having difficulty getting my wifes laptop (DELL POS) to retrieve an IP address, it appears many others do as well. . . I have tried everything on your help pages and then some.
I ran into this at another site while searching for a solution: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;835304
These guys are the ones who led me there with this thread: http://forums.practicallynetworked.com/showthread.php?t=6060
Is this valid? How do I fix it if it is? (They may as well type in Mandarin on the Microsoft support site.)
Another interesting thing is that I can connect wirelessly with my XBox (to XBox Live) just fine. . .
BTW my setup is as follows: cable modem => Linksys Vonage router (used as my DHCP server) => airport (used as bridge, ie no NAT) and also to my MDD G4 tower
My iBook and the XBox connect effortlessly via 802.11b with a 13 character WEP password. No issues with the tower either (I can connect direct though the Vonage router or wirelessly.) The only thing that doesn't work is the stupid PC (XP SP2.)

Yes I can connect without security, I know this. The issue is that with WEP security enabled, with a 13 character password, using the HEX key, I still have the "limited or no connectivity" crap. I feel relatively secure by using a closed network and MAC access control, and can get the **** DELL to work, but I would really prefer to use WEP encryption. I know that access control and closed network are not very big hurdles to anyone with any skills. Cloning a MAC address isn't hard and finding a closed network isn't either.

  • Is It Too Late to Create a Version Set?

I have several photos that I edited and saved, but I did not save them as version sets.  Now I would like to convert each of them to a version set -- the edited photo on top of the original photo.  Is it too late to do that?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Sorry, I forgot to mention the details -- I'm using PSE8 on a laptop with Win7 (64bit).
Yes, my terminology is confusing because I'm fairly new to this and not exactly sure what I'm doing.  I am following the example of an Adobe technician who led me through a process whereby I could move photos from one catalog to another.  I have 5 catalogs, two of which contain many thousands of photos each.  The other 3 catalogs are more specialized and thus smaller.  My Flower Catalog, for instance, contains a couple thousand pictures.
This is my routine:  I download my photos into one of the larger catalogs (File>Get Photos from Card Reader).  If I have a photo of a flower in the group, I edit it and save it in a version set or stack.  Then, in order to "move" it to the Flower Catalog, I select and copy it (Ctrl+C).  Then, in Explorer, I open the Flower Catalog and paste it. Then, when I return to PSE8 and open the Flower Catalog (a watched folder), I get the message that a new photo has been found and do I want to add it to the browser. (This photo, unfortunately for me, is not the version set or stack but only the top, edited, photo.)  I add it to the browser.  The properties show that its location is now in the Flower Catalog.  Then I go back to the larger catalog and delete the flower photo from that catalog (not the hard disk).
A convoluted system, but it works except for keeping the version set or stack intact.
Does anyone have a better, foolproof way of moving a file from one catalog to another?  Especially a way that will keep the version set or stack together?

  • Transferring CS6 to a new computer

After successfully transferring Lightroom and Elements 10 to my new PC, I could not get CS6 to load, due to lack of a program to open the .7Z file, evidently. I loaded a couple of Zip programs, to no avail. My registration key was accepted.
Any help will be gratefully received!

There were two files, as you expected. After clicking on the exe it would commence the first stage on my W7 m/c, then say something like "you are lacking software on your m/c; cannot continue".
I ended up calling Adobe/India, where I was lucky enough to get a very patient and knowledgable guy who led me through various steps, still to no avail. He then led me to Adobe Download Assistant, where he was able to start the download without the fancy programs. It took 30 minutes, but that didn't bother me! All's well now!
    Thanks for your input!

  • Delayed live screen drawing with tools in Photoshop. Video driver update?

Delayed live screen drawing with tools in Photoshop CS5 on my iMac running system 10.6.7.
Hi there. Recently, I've been having issues with the tools. There's a distinct DELAY in the live drawing. For example, if I open a random image, take the pencil, paintbrush, or even eraser tool, and I draw a large line across the image, I don't see anything. If I zoom in or out 1 click, I see the line. If I draw ANOTHER line, same thing - I need to zoom in or out to see it. With all of the tools. I've never had this issue before and it's incredibly frustrating (that might be an understatement as you can imagine - I use PS daily as I am a full-time designer.) Any ideas or solutions? I've already TRASHED my preferences and reset the tool. If it IS a driver issue (which is weird, because this issue just recently started happening) I contacted the driver manufacturer (AMD) and was told:
"Unfortunately, Apple does not authorize us to release drivers for their products.
All drivers are provided to Apple who then customize and release them to their customers.
You will need to contact Apple to obtain the most current drivers for your product."

You are correct - only Apple can deliver display drivers to you.  That's what you get with a Mac as Apple wants to be your "one stop shop" for support..
Just curious:  Are you painting with large brushes and very small Spacing values?  That can cause some delay, though it normally catches up on its own - you don't have to do anything to make it happen.
Have you tried disabling OpenGL Drawing in your Photoshop Edit - Preferences - Performance menu.  Restart Photoshop after making that change and before testing.

  • How do I clear or remove "Places" search?

    Motorola Razr Maxx HD
My phone came equiped with numerous applications one of which is an app titled "Places" I conducted a search of a number of businesses and those search lists still appear when I access the "Places" app and depress the magnifying glass search icon. I want to remove or clear all of the locations listed but can find no way to do so.
Steps I have taken so far:
Spent one and one half hours conducting research on the Internet with no success.
Representative at Verizon store spend 45 minutes trying to delete the list with no success.
Spent one hour on a chat with Motorola representative who led me through numerous steps with no success
I have opened the app and then depressed the settings button which gave options to clear cache. That did not work. A message below the clear cach button indicated that I should perform the action through system settings but.............The "Places" app is not shown in the list of apps running on my phone and in addition is not listed under the "all" tab in "manage apps".. So far, the "experts" are dumbfounded and so am I. Does anyone have a solution? I can't even delete the app because there are no options to delete or disable within the app itself.
If someone responds, hope I can find the response since this if first time I have used this forum.

    Clear Maps data and history
Google Maps stores items you’ve searched for to make it easy to search for them again later. You can clear your search history in the Settings application.
    Open your device's Settings application
    Select Applications > Manage applications.
    Touch the All tab.
Touch Maps in the scrolling list.
    Touch Clear data.

  • Firefox crashes on print request with "prop res DLL no loaded" - Why?

This only happens with the Lexmark (which works fine with older versions prior to 4. upgrade.
I can print with a Brother printer. Only happens with the Lexmark.
    I am running XP.
The web site doesn't matter. I crashes whenever I request Print from the Bar or Menu.
I can't use 4. unless this is solved. How do I get the older version back?

I had the same problem with a Lexmark 1270 and solved the problem following the advice of char49, as follows:
    goto c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\Lexmark_x1100_seriesf27b and copy lxbkprpr.dll to c:\windows\system32
The only difference to the above, with my printer, being that I selected: /Lexmark_1200_series8142 and copied the file: lxczprpr.dll
As there are so many printers in the Lexmark family, I would suggest that the first four or more characters represent the make and model and therefore one should find and copy the file containing: prpr.dll
Many thanks to char49 and other contributors who led to this solution.

  • AIR Installer options

How can I change default path to the files directory?
    It's "C:/Program Files/" and I want change it to "C:/Program Files/Workshare/".
I've got another question too. What's the matter with this AIR certificates. Can anybody say, what is the difference between Adobe Certificate and Private Certificate?

Are you talking about the path that shows up in the dialog when the user is installing the app? Even though it says "C:\Program Files\" it doesn't mean that your app will be installed directly in the "Program Files" directory. It's actually asking for a location in which it will create another directory to contain your application. So for example if the user chooses "C:\Program Files" as the "installation location", AIR actually installs the app in "C:\Program Files\<app name>". For instance, when I installed TweetDeck I left the "installation location" as "C:\Program Files" but TweetDeck is actually installed on my machine in "C:\Program Files\TweetDeck". (I personally think that's confusing, and I know there have been some discussions about this internally in Adobe, but I don't know if anything's going to come of those discussions.)
Nevertheless, if you want to change the default intall location you can do that. In your application config .xml file, you specify the default installation location in the <installFolder></installFolder> node. Whatever you specify is a subpath of the default install location, so for example if you specify "<installFolder>Workshare</installFolder>" in your application.xml file, the installer dialog would show "C:\Program Files\Workshare" by default. However, assuming the user didn't change the install location, and assuming the app is named "MyApp", the app would actually be installed in "C:\Program Files\Workshare\MyApp\". I suppose that's useful if your company makes multiple apps and you want them to all install in a single subfolder of the Program Files directory, but otherwise I don't think it's what you're looking for.
I'm afraid I don't understand your question about the certificates. I'm not sure what you mean by an "Adobe Certificate" or a "Private Certificate". The basics of certificates are that you need to have your app signed by some certificate in order to distribute it. You can create your own "self-signed" certificate, but unless you give the user a copy of your certificate and they add it to the set of trusted certificates on their computer, their computer won't trust the certificate. Consequently, when the user installs the app they'll just see the "Publisher: Unknown" in the installation dialog. If you buy a code-signing certificate that's issued by a known certificate authority, then the certificate will probably be trusted on the user's computer so AIR will show your name as the Publisher in the installer dialog. It's basically a reputation system. Your computer trusts Verisign (or other CAs). Verisign says that your certificate is legitimate (because Verisign issued the certificate) so Verisign is saying "this person really is who they say they are". Since Verisign vouches for you and the computer trusts Verisign, AIR can legitimately say that the app really comes from you.
For in-depth details about certificates and code-signing in AIR, see the Dr. Dobb's Journal article "Code Signing in Adobe AIR" by Oliver Goldman (the AIR engineer who led development of the installer).

  • Pen Tool vs Tablet

I've been using Photoshop for a long time, but I'm new to Illustrator and Flash. I feel like I should learn how to use Illustrator before I tackle Flash, but one of the biggest obstacles is the pen tool - what a pain in the butt!
An art school student told me I can simply substitute an electronic drawing device (e.g. a Wacom tablet) for the pen tool. Is that true, or would using such a device carry some sort of liability?
If a drawing tablet is a good way to go, what size should I get? I'm not yet familiar with various brands, but the Wacom/Intuos appears to be most popular. However, it's very expensive, and I don't have a clue what size to get. I assume a 9 X 12 device would be the best choice if I wanted to trace a picture measuring 9 X 12 inches. But could I instead get a tablet half that size, copy half the picture, then copy the other half and paste the two halves together in illustrator?
To put it another way, what size is most popular with web design professionals?
    Thanks.

    Mordy, Doug:
David is confusing AI's Pen Tool with a stylus, due to the bad advice he received from some dolt who impied to him that one is a substitute for the other.
    David,
    I'll try again:
Forget all about whether any given user likes or doesn't like stylus pointing devices.
Historically and currently, in vector drawing programs like Illustrator the primary drawing "tool" (feature of the software) is generically called the "pen tool". Specific programs may call it the "Bezier Tool" or something else, but it's long been the primary interface element for accurately drawing Bezier paths. In short, the Pen Tool is the heart-and-soul of a vector drawing program. You need to use it, regardless of what kind of hardware you are using for your computer's input device.
Ever since stylus input devices first appeared with so-called pressure-sensitive features, various programs have provided additional and/or modified software features to take advantage of it.
That started in raster (paint) programs, which added the ability for the width of their "paintbrush" features to be controlled by the pressure input of a stylus.
Later, vector (draw) programs started doing something similar, adding features which involved closed paths being drawn with varying "widths." Those are usually called "brush" features. Other vector features can also be modified to allow some of their settings to be modified on-the-fly by the pressure button of a stylus. Examples of that include some of the settings when using Symbols, or a "brush" tool like Illustrator's recently-added Blob, etc.
But none of that pressure-sensitive stuff changes the fact that the software pen tool is still the
primary tool for drawing accurate Bezier curves, point-by-point. And the pen tool doesn't have any pressure-sensitive or stylus-targeted features, because the whole purpose of the pen tool is to draw paths deliberately, accurately, and economically, point-by-point.
    So you can
use a stylus while using the Pen Tool (software) in Illustrator, just as you can use a mouse while using the Pen Tool in Illustrator. Either way, you still need to learn to use the Pen Tool, because it is still the heart-and-soul of every mainstream vector drawing program, including Illustrator.
So the art school student who led you to believe that using a stylus input device somehow obviates the need to learn and to use Illustrator's Pen Tool has given you a
    very wrong impression.
All the praise or criticism of stylus input devices in the world doesn't change that. Drawing paths point-by-point is the
primary way to use vector drawing programs. That means using the Pen Tool, and that means using it whether the object in your hand is a stylus or a mouse.
So get yourself a Wacom 6x9 Intuos tablet because that's the only way you're going to find out if you like using a stylus. You may love it so much that you never touch a mouse again. Or, it may end up just collecting dust until you get over the thought of throwing away (or giving away) somethning you spent a significant chunk of change on. But regardless, get busy learning Illustrator's Pen Tool, because you're going to need it either way.

  • Kernal_Task taking 5GBs, Maverick upgrade

    Hello,
If anyone might have some help for me. A couple of days ago, I upgraded my Macbook Pro (15in, early 2011) to Maverick.  Yesterday and today, my computer started running incredibly slowly (numerous pinwheels). I finally got an error message that I did not have enough memory to run MS Word and the computer crashed. I spoke with an Apple representative who led me through a NVRAM and PRAM resetting process. This seems to work for a couple minutes, but then after I open a few applications (Word seems to trigger things, but maybe it just takes some time), my kernal_task and mds processes rocket up in the the GBs. Kernal_task is running at 4.5 GB usually.  Nearly a year ago,  I had installed extra ram. I now have 8GBs which is being completely used as I type this. Fan running.
When I upgraded this computer to Mountain Lion I had a terrible time of it and was forced to do a clean reinstall. I'm wondering if this will be again the case. I have an external Time Machine back-up from immediately before the update.
I figure I will end up bring this to the Genius bar, but wanted to approach this on a couple fronts.
    Any advice?
    Thanks so much.
