    The above info re the Flashback removal tool confuses me.  I thought this trojan horse affected those who had Java (JRE) up and running  i.e.,Safari security Java checkbox enabled.  I also believed this Trojan horse also affected those using Snow Leopard. Clarify please.

    There are several variants of the trojan. The first ones were released as installers for Adobe Flash and therefore did not require you to have Java on your system. Later variants took advantage of a Java vulnerability and could install themselves by simply visiting a rogue Web site. Therefore, even without Java installed if you had run a rogue updater for Adobe Flash or Reader, then you might have installed the trojan.
    The trojan also affects Snow Leopard and prior versions of OS X (so far the code is known to be intel-only, but this is unconfirmed), but Apple has only issued patches for supported versions of the OS (version 10.6 or later).
    Apple's removal tools run in OS X 10.6 or later if you instlal the Java update, and the standalone removal tool is for Lion only. Why Apple does not offer options for other operating systems is beyond me, but that's the way of things. Right now there are other tools you can use to check for and remove the malware on versions of OS X that Apple does not support: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57413811-263/flashback-malware-removal-tool -roundup/

  • Who loves their Iphone?

    I have had my iphone since Friday night
    and i am blown away by it.
    Each day that passes I become more impressed with the
    technology.
    This is the first pda type phone that I actually like!!
    I am coming from a palm 700 treo which i never used because of many problems and its bulk.
    I actually had two phones since the treo was to bulky to carry in my pocket
    last night i went about around town i kept the phone in my front pocket of my jeans it fits comfortably.
    Just seeing if any one else is having such a great experience.

    Me. I LOVE my iPhone. I too had an incredibly easy activation process. I literally watched m Moto Razr V3 phone's "all spark" die out and my new iPhone come to life within 3 minutes. Yup, that fast... I almost shed a tear or excitement and joy.
    VERY IMPRESSIVE.
    I do feel for everyone who had or is still having activation problems. It seems like most of you are on the east coast. I wonder if it's tied specifically to an east coast server?
    anyhow...
    The iPhone is incredible. Everytime i look at it and use it, i'm just blown away by the interface, it's simiplicity and just how easy and how well it works.
    Yesterday, i spent the day driving around with friends here in the L.A. suburbs and i had perfect phone and EDGE reception. The 5 South fwy at the 101 fwy was backed up for hours due to a multiple car pileup and i was able to bring up 'sigalert.com' and read specifically what was going on and the fwy conditions in real time. My friends were blown away. Living in L.A., the internet 'in your pocket' feature is just a godsend.
    I was demo'ing the iPhone to 3 friends as we waited in line for 'Ratatouille'... they were just blown away... and occasionally people around would catch notice i had an iPhone and they'd try to catch a glimpse or make a "oh wow" comment.
    I just wish everyone had as excellent of an activation experience that i had.
    enjoy!

  • Who loves their MBP?

    I'm waiting for mine to be delivered tomorrow. Its in Oakland right now, but who aside from any buzzing they might have, think that the MBP is the notebook they've been waiting for?

    I love mine--it arrived Friday afternoon and I spent Friday night & part of today getting things set up just right. So far, everything is great. I have not noticed a noticable whine; my latch works fine; battery life is 3.5 - 4 hours which is fine for me; and all my apps seem to run without any problems. MS Office suite runs fine for me.
    The display is gorgeous. All in all, I'm a very happy camper . Have fun with your new toy when it arrives!

  • Who wrote java.lang.Object

    The biggest mystery for me in Java still exists as to who really coded the mother of all classes java.lang.Object.
    Here?s what the source of it says in JavaDocs
    * Class <code>Object</code> is the root of the class hierarchy.
    * Every class has <code>Object</code> as a superclass. All objects,
    * including arrays, implement the methods of this class.
    * @author unascribed
    * @version 1.61, 01/23/03
    * @see java.lang.Class
    * @since JDK1.0
    public class Object {
    See the annotation @author above, it says ?unascribed? which means unknown. Any one who can solve this mystery for me and come up with the real author of this jni implementation class called ?Object?
    I mean the first one to write java.lang.Object. Please help me...

Sure, it's nice to satisfy a bit of curiosity, but since the information is quite deliberately not present in the publicly available source code, it's pretty safe to assume it's not available anywhere else. You seem to have gone from "I'd like to know" to "I demand someone tells me", and I'm unsure why. Or maybe I'm just reading you wrong, in which case, I apologise. But I don't think you're going to get an answer, and it really doesn't matter

  • Need help from people who know Java. Some beginner questions.

    Hello all.
    I just recently became interested in programming and I chose Java to learn (not really sure why), I am not really interested in the whole Java Applets thing because i can already do the same things in Flash. What I really want to do is to be able to make a program that can actually complete a task; for instance Is it hard/possible to fabricate a program that could say... do a simple task like open my browser, copy a file, move something ect. What type of file would it be? Would it be a standalone program or .class for MS-DOS? Also (I'v been doing examples and lessons) why are these done in my command prompt and not just executed as the program (.java?) they are (written in notepad). What is my java program export file called that can be used by others with java enviornment. I will finish an excersize and it will say congrats you've just made you first program, but if its a program then why am i running it in command prompt unlike a program i have like Adobe Photoshop where i click the icon and it opens. Is there a better language for me?
    These questions may sound stupid but i'v scrutinized the internet and found very little on these topics.
    Any help to any question would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks alot,

    If you want to write a GUI, then you will have to use AWT, Swing, and or SWT....
    There are several advanced concepts you will have to master before you can write effective GUI's..
    If your looking for an easy way out, learn VB. You will need M$'s IDE to compile though.. Or VBA from within your favorite Windows APP... Many support VBA like the Office Suite, Autocad, and Open Office, and many more..

  • Question for anyone who loves Air Attack HD

    I love this game, but can you tell me how to use more than one mission out of the eight available? I'm obviously missing something. I'm stuck on the same mission every time as far as I can tell.

    Is it a progressive thing where you have to complete one level, without being destroyed yourself, before you can move to the next level? In other words, you can't just pick your mission?

  • NEED SOME ONE WHO KNOWS JAVA GOOD

    I HAVE A PROJECT TO DO AND I'M NEW TO JAVA. I HAVE TO Write a Person class that contains private member variables name, age, and gender; and six public member methods getName, setName, getAge, setAge, getGender, setGender to access the private variables.
    Write an AddressBook class that manages a collection of Person objects. An AddressBook object should allow the programmer to add, delete, or search for a Person object in the address book. Use a binary search to implement searching. Use any sorting algorithm to implement sorting of the Person objects in the address book by name.
    IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME ON GETTING A SITE OR ANYTHING WHERE I CAN GET THESE I WILL APRECIATE.
    THANX

    Your specifications are pretty clear.
    Download the JDK, read the tutorial for basics. That should get you through the initial stage of writing the Person class and the AddressBook collection object.
    http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/onlineTraining/Programming/BasicJava1/compile.html
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/
    Theres a lot, but you can get started with these.
    For the BinarySearch and Sort you will need to understand the Comparator concept this should take less than a day to grasp.
    Roll up your sleeves and hop in !!
    If you expect to get a ready set of soruce in examples etc. I doubt if there is something to your requirements that you can simply take and use.
    I would suggest you follow the above steps and you will realise that this is the simplest way of doing it.
    Cheers.

  • Those who loves Adobe, Flash, Flex...

    Hi folks
    please read this funny Flex vs. HTML5
    http://rushmeflex.blogspot.com/2010/10/funny-aspects-of-html5-vs-flexflash.html
    If you like it don't forget to add your thoughts and share.
    Rush-me

    be careful mentioning HTML5 on here. it is a sore subject
    I am very interested in this topic. I work on both ends of the spectrum (10+ years of Micro$oft) and 3+ months of FLEX 4.
    I hear plenty of Microsoft people who are not afraid to talk about this, but I find very few FLEX/Adobe folks who will go into detail about it. I hear Safari even semi-supports HTML5, so apparently Apple is making headway in the HTML5 direction? I am suprised nobody on here will even want to discuss that.
    Interesting enough, I attend the FLEX User group meetings here in my city and apparently this subject was discussed before I started attending. I didnt get any info out of that, except that I found out they were discussing it! Which gives me some hope.
    I have heard all types of things. I have heard that Microsoft would own Adobe if the Federal Anti Trust laws did not restrict them from purchasing Adobe. This gives me a feeling of "underdog" status when working in FLEX. I kind of like it but it also scares me that this is a bad career choice.
    I am very curious as to feedback from other people in the Adobe community. If you search for "HTML5" in all the forums, you get VERY little feedback, and I think that is quite shocking.
    Your blog goes into great detail about non-Adobe supporters and how they predict the doomsday for FLASH (exact date), etc. But what your blog does not cover is the very few pro-Adobe people who will even DISCUSS the matter of HTML5 and its implications. I find it VERY shocking that there is so little feedback from this side of the pond.

  • Who loves iMovie10

    Is there anyone who is really happy with iMovie10?  Im so frustrated since I upgraded last November, I wish I never had.

    You can still use iMovie 9 and your iMovie 9 folders should still exist, assuming you didn't trash them.
    I found iMovie 10 quite an improvement over iMovie 9 but a lot of older things (old video formats, iDvD support....) have been removed which has annoyed a lot of people.  The new background tasks and libraries structure are a big improvement.  On the other hand some things you could do in iMovie 9 you now have to use FCP for.  FCP 10.1 is really good IMHO.
    Geoff.
