Who loves their MBP?

I'm waiting for mine to be delivered tomorrow. Its in Oakland right now, but who aside from any buzzing they might have, think that the MBP is the notebook they've been waiting for?

I love mine--it arrived Friday afternoon and I spent Friday night & part of today getting things set up just right. So far, everything is great. I have not noticed a noticable whine; my latch works fine; battery life is 3.5 - 4 hours which is fine for me; and all my apps seem to run without any problems. MS Office suite runs fine for me.
The display is gorgeous. All in all, I'm a very happy camper . Have fun with your new toy when it arrives!

  • Who loves their Iphone?

I have had my iphone since Friday night
and i am blown away by it.
Each day that passes I become more impressed with the
    technology.
This is the first pda type phone that I actually like!!
I am coming from a palm 700 treo which i never used because of many problems and its bulk.
I actually had two phones since the treo was to bulky to carry in my pocket
last night i went about around town i kept the phone in my front pocket of my jeans it fits comfortably.
Just seeing if any one else is having such a great experience.

Me. I LOVE my iPhone. I too had an incredibly easy activation process. I literally watched m Moto Razr V3 phone's "all spark" die out and my new iPhone come to life within 3 minutes. Yup, that fast... I almost shed a tear or excitement and joy.
    VERY IMPRESSIVE.
I do feel for everyone who had or is still having activation problems. It seems like most of you are on the east coast. I wonder if it's tied specifically to an east coast server?
    anyhow...
The iPhone is incredible. Everytime i look at it and use it, i'm just blown away by the interface, it's simiplicity and just how easy and how well it works.
Yesterday, i spent the day driving around with friends here in the L.A. suburbs and i had perfect phone and EDGE reception. The 5 South fwy at the 101 fwy was backed up for hours due to a multiple car pileup and i was able to bring up 'sigalert.com' and read specifically what was going on and the fwy conditions in real time. My friends were blown away. Living in L.A., the internet 'in your pocket' feature is just a godsend.
I was demo'ing the iPhone to 3 friends as we waited in line for 'Ratatouille'... they were just blown away... and occasionally people around would catch notice i had an iPhone and they'd try to catch a glimpse or make a "oh wow" comment.
I just wish everyone had as excellent of an activation experience that i had.
    enjoy!

My iPhone does not always send iMessages to other iPhones who have their iMessages on. Most times I text a new contact with an iPhone first, they show up as regular text messages. How can I fix this?

Yes to receive an iMessage the recipient would need an iOS device (iPhone, iPod, iPad) and an internet connection. This is a messaging serviceprovided by Apple so the recipient does not need to check emails. If the contact does not have internet access at the time the iMessage is sent then a normal SMS through your carrier can be sent instead if you have "Send as SMS" turned on in Settings>Messages.

  • Anyone got their MBP back?

Anyone sent in their MBP for CAPTURE? Have you got a new one back yet? Does it still whine?

    Hi,
Could you please tell me how many video`s you encoded using Handbrake, 3hrs seems a long time if it was only one
I used to do a 4.5 gb video in around 30 mins on my Dual G5 2.7.
Have ordered a MacBook Pro but if it`s that slow using HandBrake then I will cancel my order.
Also are you using the Latest HandBrake which is now Universal Binary.
Have Been waiting since the 12th Jan for My MacBook
Hope it`s been worth it, I`m expectng good things from this Baby!!
    Kind Regards

  • I own Snow Leopard Family Pack and an acquaintance installed it onto their MBP without permission. How can I revoke that license?

I own Snow Leopard Family Pack and an acquaintance installed it onto their MacBook Pro without permission. How can I revoke that license? I don't have access to their MBP, but I have access to all the other authorized computers using the family pack.

No. The license is a legal agreement, not a technical measure to restrict installation or duplication. There's nothing to stop you from installing it on 20 Macs in your household save that you are subject to a binding legal agreement that says you have permission to install it on no more than 5. If you break the terms of the contract, you may be subject to civil litigation. If someone steals your copy and uses it without authorization, they are similarly liable.
In practice, Apple trusts you to be honest because, frankly, until it gets to a certain point, it's just not worth the money to file a complaint against you. That's not to say that they couldn't, or even shouldn't enforce the terms of the license agreement; caveat sycophanta.

  • Has anyone used the Acer X223Wbd 22" Wide LCD Monitor with their MBP?

    Good afternoon,
I'm currently thinking about purchasing the 22" Wide Acer LCD monitor to hook up to my MBP, so I can have a bigger screen to render graphics and play games on. I was wondering if there is anyone else, who has experience with this product, that can give me their opinion about it. My financial budget is about $200.00, so I need to find the best monitor for my buck. I have read some good reviews on it, but I'm not sure if those individuals had used it with a MBP. I would appreciate any useful information that anyone can give me. Thank you.
    AMMOCAN

Thanks J, that's a nice find. I've tried it and it seems to be working seamlessly. As you said, I cannot confirm any multi-touch support and the price that they are asking is certainly not in the private end-user range. Fortunately, according to the terms of use for the evaluation, you only need to calibrate after every 100 touches to keep the driver working indefinitely.
    Terms of Use:
    TERMS OF USAGE
This software is supplied for evaluation and test purposes only. For use in production systems, driver licenses are required. Please note that click emulation will cease after 100 touches and a calibration or reboot is needed to gain another 100 touches.
This would appear to be a nice work around until acer decides to distribute a Mac driver or someone develops a cheaper alternative.

  • Who uses their iPads in class/ college?

I am considering on using my ipad2 in my college course as my textbook to save money. I would love to hear people opinions on those Only who are or have use their iPad to enhance their education. I'm wondering if I should buy the etextbook or the physical book .

I'm a professor and all of my textbooks are available as ebooks, but none are available through iBooks. The majority of textbook providers in my discipline use CourseSmart for their digital content. There is a CourseSmart app for the iPad which allows students to take notes and highlight the digital text. I have my textbook reps provide exam/desk copies through CourseSmart rather than send paper copies for me to look at. Some of my students purchase the physical copy of the text, others use the digital version through CourseSmart. If your texts are from any of the major publishers (McGraw-Hill, Pearson/Prentice Hall, etc.,), you might check the CourseSmart website to see if your books are available that way.

  • Has anyone had their MBP die after installing a new hard drive?

    hi,
the reason why I ask is because:
a while ago I had a lovely PB12" which was my favourite little laptop.. the only thing it was missing was hard drive space, so I had a certified apple centre install a 250GB drive in it to make it a much more usable personal machine. a few days later the motherboard fried itself, and because the machine was long out of warranty, there was pretty much nothing to be done about it. I'm pretty sure it was a dodgy job on replacing the drive that killed my machine but I obviously can't prove it.
anyway that was then, this is now.. I'm thinking about replacing the 100GB 7200rpm drive that came with my MBP core2duo 2.33 17" machine, seeing as there are now 7200rpm drives as big as 320GB. but I really rely on this machine for a lot of work, and I'm not exactly ready to have it mysteriously die just like my old powerbook. I know the 12" powerbook was apparently notoriously difficult to open up and replace components so I get the feeling that the technicians must have bashed something up when they were trying to do the swap out. so my question is, has anyone at all with any recent MBP had the machine go seriously wrong after changing the drive? looking around on the internet it seems that changing the drive in my current machine is something easy enough that I could do it myself, which I'd probably do if I don't hear too many horror stories about it. my MBP is out of warranty and I don't have apple care, but is it correct that even if it still was under warranty, that would have been voided by my changing the hard drive?
anyway, any experiences and opinions on this most appreciated, especially from anyone who has had major problems..
    cheers,
    antonio

thanks for the replies, appreciate the feedback.
as I mentioned in my original post, I think I'm probably overly paranoid because of the fact that an authorised repair centre managed to kill my PB just doing a simple drive switchover. but from everything I've heard, the powerbook 12" was already in a category of its own in terms of how difficult it was to access parts inside, with a high risk of breaking something in the process. so I'll probably end up swapping out the drive on the MBP myself, perhaps with the help of someone more technically nerdy than me (and who has the right tools).
I originally got a 7200rpm drive, and will most probably go for the latest 320GB 7200s that are out there because I need the best performance running logic. but I'm also slightly tempted to go for a 500GB 5400 because I've heard there's not much in it performance-wise nowadays given that the 5400s use perpendicular technology rather than longitudinal. do any of you know if the current 320GB 7200s also use perpendicular recording?
    thanks!

  • Has anyone found the way to fix Mavericks from turning their MBP into a snail?

I have an early 2011 MBP.  2.0ghz with 4gb of RAM.  I have plenty of space on my HDD(140GB) which is not "failing".  Just like about 90% of other users, my mac has slowed way way down since "upgrading" to Mavericks.  Easily half the speed it was since the upgrade.  Oh yeah, I upgraded over a week ago.  So it isn't the "give it 72 hours" line of BS.
Any real answers?  Will Apple help anyone with this?

Thanks for the info.  RAM on the way.  Just as a matter of opinion.  Why would Apple nearly force this operating system on me by popping it up on my updates list every other day?  After I finally gave in,(with great concern that it would do more harm than good, because frankly, my computer was running great already)  I might of seen a spinning balloon once a week, maybe for a second or two, and that was with a ton of things working.  Including Premiere Pro, Firefox, and maybe another adobe program open.  Switch to Mavericks, and I can't even open Firefox without havng to wait for atleast 5 seconds of spinning balloon.
Then when I looked up to see why I was having problems, I saw tons of people with the same exact problem.
And this is months and months of the same exact complaints with absolutely no answers and no changes.  Kind of like an automobile company witholding information about defects while its customers die from them.
Let me tell you what I think is actually happening.  The guy who loved the company the most, and wanted to provide a quality product, first and foremost, died.  I sadly predict we are watching Apple downshift its way into Microsoft Mediocrity.

  • Anyone else seeing their MBP's shut down due to overheating and no fans?

I have a 2 month old MBP that overheats and locks up when playing World of Warcraft in OS X. The processor temp will get to 100-105 and the MBP locks up and requires a forced hard boot. The fans don't spin up - they stay at 2k.
Also, on the Windows side (64 bit Vista), the upper left hand corner of the chassis gets extremely hot - again no fans spin up.
I have resorted to using smcFanControl to manage the fans in order to prevent overheating. I have seen many people post about this exact same problem on these boards - does anyone have any advice? I am concerned that I am frying the hardware over time!
I called Apple tech support and they say they have no knowledge of this being an issue.

No problem here, at first my fans were stuck at 2k regardless of the temps. I reset the SMC and that (at least for me) fixed the problem.
While I use and advocate the use of smcFanControl, I recommend that you get your laptop repaired (or replaced). Now with that said, there seems to be quite a number of threads of WOW users who complain about the heat being generated from using that game and likewise, it seems pretty evident that using Vista means your laptop will be running hot for what ever reason.
If your fans are not ramping up beyond 2k in OSX, then that's not right, if its running hot in vista or playing WOW then that might be another issue.
