Who messed with the printer dialogue for Acrobat Pro 10.1.2??

We have several printers installed on each computer. When I print manuals that a client has ordered I have to switch between several ways to print all the time (we print all manuals on demand as we sell them). Here are the printers we have installed:
Printing on one side, A4
Printing on both sides, A4 (duplex long edge)
Printing on one side, A4, landscape orientation with staple to the left, slanted
Printing on one side, A4, portrait orientation with staple to the left, slanted
Booklet printing (on A3)
With the upgrade to 10.1.2 Acrobat totally ignores our printer settings when it comes to duplex printing. With the new version of Acrobat, you can find that setting when you open the printer dialogue on the first page, and it doesn't matter what the setting for the printer says, it's that check on the first page that counts.
Who came up with that "briliant" idea? Now I have to check and uncheck and open the properties for each print job, and that's very time consuming. I don't know how much paper I've had to throw away the last couple of days due to this.
And when we are talking printer dialogues, can't someone at Adobe fix that the "fit to page" or whatever it's called in English are back to None when you close Acrobat? It's so idiotic that, if you change to "fit to page", it stays there until you choose otherwise. It doesn't matter if you close the program. I would have liked it to be for one printer job only, but if you can't get that, at least that it goes back to None when you close the program. This is not a new "feature", but an old irritating function that soon gives me an ulcer...
Lena, Sweden

Yes, we find it diabolical, we will have to retrain everybody (again) and we have not yet worked it all out - I agree with Lena from Sweden, and what happened to "auto rotate and CENTER" empahsis on center !
We do exactly the same type of work here and are flummoxed by the unheralded changes without much forethought for us production print on demand printers who must use acrobat on a minute by minute basis.
We are still working this out - not much of an improved dialog in my opinion.

Acrobat's print dialog doesn't deal with hardware-specific features, for that you have to click on the "Properties" button next to the dropdown printer selection field.

  • What is the problem with the printer dialogue?

I am running OS X 10.4.11 on a G5 Powermac w 1.5 GB RAM, and Photoshop CS3. For as long as I can remember, printing anything from Photoshop has produced the dialogue box: "The image is larger than the paper's printable area and some clipping could occur.", and I have to click out of it to proceed with the printing. It doesn't matter whether what I'm printing is, in fact, brushing the edge of the paper, or is, rather, a picture of an airmail stamp dead center, reduced to half-size. I get that dialogue every time. Is there any way to get rid of it? I can tell you that it has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the actual size of the image I am printing; it just adds one more step to the process.

The message is indeed generated by the printer driver.
Printers have default margins they have to observe. If the image exceeds their boundaries, you WILL get that message. Period. End of story.

  • Change the install path for Acrobat Pro X

Hi everybody! I just downloaded the AcroX trial to see what's beef with the new release, but I ran into a very annoying problem:
I'm quite nitpicking about my Applications folder, and I installed all of my other Adobe software into an "Adobe" subfolder.
I just noticed that during the installation is not possible to easily change the installation path like you can do in other Adobe setups...
I found this in the KB
    (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/877/cpsid_87775.html#main_Known_issues_on_Mac_OS)
"You cannot install Acrobat to a custom location." and other stuff...
The question is: do you have any idea of the priority of this bug? Will this be fixed anytime soon?
    Thanks, Agia

    Hi,
Just followed the link you gave. In the try option for Acrobat X Pro the dropdown only has options for Windows installers and not MAC Installers.
Secondly to answer your issue for customize installation to a path on OS 10.6, follow the following steps:
    1) Mount the dmg on MAC
    2) Launch the installer package
    3) Click OK on popup that you need to close running instances of Acrobat
    4) Click next to go to Read Me.
    5) Click next to move to Installation Type screen where we have buttons "Install", "GoBack" and "Customize". Click on Customize
    6) In this screen you will see 3 checkboxes "Application", "Browser Plug-In" and "Print Workflow" with columns as Package Name, Location, Action and Size
    7) Corresponding to Application Checkbox there is Location specified (With a small folder icon) - Adobe Acrobat X Pro. Click on this to select your location (2nd column)
This is similar to what traditional Apple products installers do like XCode installer. There is nothing new in this.
    Thanks,
    Karan

  • Problem with pdf-printing in Adobe Acrobat Pro

    Hi,
I have Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.4.3.
PDF-printing has always worked great but suddenly there is some kind of problem.
After printing a excel-document from "Print to pdf" built-in function in MacOS OR Adobes Printer I have corruptet pdf-files when showing them in Adobe Reader/Acrobat, but the MacOS Preview-software shows them correct.
So, there cannot be any problem with the printing, but the local preview on my computer using Reader or Acrobat. I dont even use the Myriad font in the document, I use Verdana.

You say you're using Verdana but you're not. The error message clearly shows you're using MyriadPro Bold.
You probably recently installed the Mac OS X 10.6.7 update which has a bug with OpenType PostScript fonts like MyriadPro Bold. Either use Verdana or another TrueType or PostScript font, or revert to Mac OS X 10.6.6.

  • OT: Macintosh Users: Beware the misleading advertising for Acrobat 9 Pro Extended

An important message to Macintosh users who are considering purchasing Acrobat 9:
I am writing to let you Mac users know that the current marketing for Acrobat Pro is very confusing.
On the page for Acrobat Pro,
    here.
there is a very enticing sidebar that says "Consider Upgrading to Acrobat 9 Pro Extended"
It outlines all the cool things that Extended can do. I had seen some publicity for Extended and so I immediately clicked that button to find out more about this version. It is a very compelling product that has a presentation application, 3D capabilities, and the form creation product Live Cycle Designer.
I was very excited about this product, when I was lucky to have checked the System Requirements for this product. And was amazed to find that this product is Windows only!
It is one thing to shove the Mac market off to the side as Acrobat has in the past. For instance, in the past, Acrobat products have provided features for Windows that were missing on the Mac.
But the current advertising borders on misleading advertising. Rather than just hide the Windows -only features under the same name as the Macintosh product, Adobe has come out with a Windows-only product that doesn't clearly state it is Windows only!
To publicize a product on a page that is cross platform and then make it very hard to find out that the product is Windows only is terrible. And I guarantee that this will lead to many people ordering something they can not use. And will be very angry about!
I have written to several people I know at Adobe to complain about this.
I would suggest that others use the Adobe-feedback page:
    http://www.adobe.com/bin/webfeedback.cgi
to tell Adobe how this makes you feel.
Meanwhile, I'm glad that I won't have to shell out the extra money for this Windows-only product.

    Buko,
I appreciate your support, but it's even worse than you think.
Here are the features exclusive to Acrobat 9 Pro Extended:
Combine documents, drawings, e-mail, spreadsheets, and rich media including audio, video, 3D, and maps in a single, compressed PDF Portfolio.
b The Pro version does not support 3D.
Create interactive, on-demand presentations Use Adobe Presenter software now included with Adobe Acrobat® 9 Pro Extended software to liven up your slides with video, voice-over, demos, and interactive quizzes, and then output to PDF for reliable, cross-platform sharing.
b The Pro version does not contain Presenter.
This is the product I was most interested in.
Work with expanded 3D features Use new Adobe 3D Reviewer software to combine multiple CAD formats in one assembly; compare a revised design to an earlier version; measure and section on precise geometry; and create exploded views, animations, and balloons. Export your work to 2D vector or raster files or save as PDF.
b The Pro version does not support any 3D features.
View and interact with PDF maps Search, measure, and mark up geospatially enabled PDF maps. Discover the longitude and latitude by placing your cursor over a location. Measure PDF maps in kilometers or miles.
b The Pro version does not support the PDF maps features.
Create interactive forms with Adobe LiveCycle Designer.
b The Pro version does not have the LiveCycle Designer application.
Finally, there is a feature mentioned in the Pro 9 Extended product that I cannot find in the Acrobat Pro 9 features:
Convert a variety of video formats to FLV for reliable, cross-platform sharing of video, animations, and applications in PDF documents. With native support for Adobe® Flash® technology, no additional media player is necessary for playback.
b But I can't definitely tell if this feature is in the Pro 9 version.
As you can see, there are quite a few compelling features in Pro Extended. And I guarantee it is
b only marketing, and not code,
that is keeping these features from the Mac market.

Acrobat 9 extended is just the new name for Acrobat 3D. Alas it has
always been Windows only. I agree that they could make it more obvious
that it is Windows only. I guess some in the Marketing department, may
not realize that anyone still uses a Mac ;-)

  • I need the proper settings for Acrobate Reader 9.3 to be backward compatable to open PDF 6.0.

I have a full license for Adobe Acrobat Professional 9. I just got off the phone with Acrobat technical support about once you install Acrobat Reader 9 to read documents online using Internet Explorer and Firefox. That it would make documents that were scanned in with CapturePerfect3.0 and a Cannon document scanner using Adobe Acrobat Professional 6.0 saved in PDF format and stored as images with records stored with Access Database front-end and SQL Server backend. Simple 6.0 PDF documents stored scanned documents in a database. O.K.! The problem is once you upgrade to read newer version of Acrobat PDF documents that our staff must read online, it makes reading saved database 6.0 PDF documents unreadable. Technical support informs me that it is a settings fix in Acrobat Reader 9 but because the Acrobat Reader 9 is a free download that can't tell me how to fix the settings.
So here I am trying to find out the proper settings in Acrobat Reader 9 to read new Acrobat documents online and old 6.0 Acrobat PDF documents on Windows XP Pro workstations and one Windows 7 workstation of the CEO's assistant. So please help me with the proper setting for Acrobat Reader 9 to work online reading newer PDF documents and still read Acrobat 6.0 documents stored in a database.

Adobe Reader 9 can open old and new pdf files.

  • How can I move or resize the print dialogue box to fit within my screen?

Right now the print dialogue box sits below the menu bar and extends below the screen.  I have tried to move it up or resize it, but it doesn't budge.  I can't see the buttons at the bottom.  I know one is "cancel" and one is "print"  but there's a third - is it "save"?
    I'm using Windows 7 on a Toshiba laptop with Creative 6  screen resolution is 1280 x 720
    Any help would be appreciated

This is obviously a bug with Photoshop Elements 12.
In my Photoshop Elements 10 the printer dialogue box scales to fit the screen every time.
In Photoshop Elements 12, even moving the task bar away (you can simply drag it up the right hand side of your screen with the mouse) you can't see the print button as its still off the bottom of the screen.
My work around is to hold shift+alt+cntl and click on my Ps icon - Click compatibility - Scroll  down to settings - click run in 640 x 480 screen resolution. It then does horrible things to your screen res, but hey presto the printer dialogue box is minimised and you can print your picture. As with your Toshiba, even with the printer dialogue box fully exposed there are no chevrons in the bottom right hand corner to minimise the printer dialogue window and the arrow buttons simply start trying to change the settings in the printer set up. The dialogue box is still nailed to the top of the screen with no title bar to right click on.
How do I escalate this to report it as a bug to Adobe?

  • Replacement Program for Acrobat Pro 7

I have twice downloaded the replacement program for Acrobat Pro 7 but get an error message when I try to install it. The message asks me to verify that I have access to the directory. The only options are abort/retry/ignore, none of which allows me to proceed past a partial installation. Any suggestions?

You still need to log in as an administrator to install the software, unless there have been changes in Acrobat that I am not aware of. At one point, it had to be the actual Administrator account, not one with admin priv. I think that went away after that one version, but you should still have admin priv.
If you are trying to install AA7 (the one that allows separate activation process), you may still not be able to install it, particularly if you are talking about a 64-bit system. If it is 64-bits, then I have my doubts that AA7 will install at all, but you can try. If you succeed, with the installation, you will probably need to work on some workarounds to get things to operate. You may not get the Adobe PDF printer for instance. There are several things that you might be able to do for fixes in a sense on Win7, 32-bit. I have my doubts that they work on WIn7, 64-bit (I have not tried).
If you are indeed trying to install AA XI, then you can ignore my comments. Maybe I need to try on one of my 64-bit systems at work to see what I can get away with.

  • Fix for 3d parsing for acrobat pro 8.2.0

Is there a fix for the 3d parsing for acrobat pro 8.2.
I know this is a issue with version 9. Well its become a problem in version 8.2 also. Thanks it was working great before.
    I really need this fixed

Adobe Professional 8 worked fine until it was updated by Adobe.  We paid for it.  Then Adobe decided to open up the hood and remove the window washer motor.  Now we can't see 3d.  Whatever they broke, they fixed in Adobe reader 9.3.3.  But they haven't fixed it in the professional version of 8. Adobe did something borderline criminal by breaking the software and now expecting everyone to upgrade to fix something that wasn't broken until Adobe broke it.  Fix it now Adobe!

  • Where can I find updates for Acrobat Pro 8?

Does anyone know where I can find the update files for Acrobat Pro 8.0? My scanning keeps crashing the program. I know its an old version, but its the only one I've got!
    Thanks!

ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/win/. Be sure to install the updates in order. Since the HTML descriptions are gone, it is impossible to tell which ones you can skip. Reboot after the last update.

Thanks for your reply....FYI...I was trying to download from www.adobe.com on
the specific page that has downloads of your products.    As far as the
alternate source is concerned I am not totally sure what the capabilities it has as
I am recovering from a hospital stay and had to send my wife to retailer to
pick this up because I am accessing email from home until I return to work and
need something to work now.  I don't yet have the SW.  (I would have had her
buy the actual Adobe Pro 9.0 -- but it is a wapping $499 and change).

It appears to be a bug with the current build. Hopefully it will be fixed in the next release.
