  • IPod Info for those who need it

Just thought I'd give some help to those who need it.
    - For those who are having trouble with their ipods accepting some videos and not others, try shortening the names of the video files. As long as the video files are in the proper format, this should clear up that issue.
    - For those who want to get the songs off of your ipod without having to worry about the iTunes one-way syncing issue the following programs will help you with that:
    PodPlus
    iPod Agent
    - For those who are just curious, here are the size incriments for data:
    Bit
    Byte
    Kilobyte
    Megabyte
    Gigabyte
    Terabyte
    Pentabyte
I've got the 5th gen iPod and after a little finessing, I think I've got it all pretty much figured out. So, if anyone has questions, gimme a shout. Or maybe you've got some cool ideas I can use!

What is an ideal average setting for my homemade iMovies?
Settings for your iMovie for what? If your are talking about conversion to an iPod compatible format, which format? Are you more concerned with quality or quantity?
First, what's the best, fastest and easiest way to convert these iMovies to the H.264 (is that done through iMovie or QT Pro or both) and what other settings (audio for one) should I be using besides the standard 30 fps ?
Your are using the same QT tools whether you convert directly from iMovie or indirectly via QT Pro using a reference file. (I.e., the only time you save is the time it takes to write the reference file itself.)
Define what you mean by best.
The "Movie to iPod (320x240)" option is the fastest in terms of programming your conversion but the slowest in terms of time it take for processing. The "Movie to MPEG4" option is slower/harder to program for a single pass H.264 encode, but takes half the time to process as the dedicated H.264 option. MPEG4 video options (single pass and 2-pass modes) are faster than H.264 codec. Audio options are the same for both H.264 and MPEG4 formats -- AAC LC. I personally would stick with the 44.1 kbps sampling rate and 128 kbps data rate for audio but you could take it up to 48 kbps at 160 kbps if you want. As to frame rate, I would stick with the current (original) setting of your source. 30 (29.97) fps provides the smoothest flow of motion. You could, of course, try 24 or even 15 fps in some cases to see if it is acceptable. Dropping below 12 fps would probably be unacceptable to most people. But you're the producer and director here, so you have to make up your own mind.

  • TS2755 I want to remove imessage completely--how can I do this? This is a terrible feature for parents who need to monitor usage.

Hi - I am a parent who needs to know when and who my child is texting . Imessage is a terrible feature that I want to remove or at least block.  What can I do to remove this so that my child doesn't have it as an option?

To turn Messages off, you'll need to turn it off in the Messages setting, and then set up Restrictions and disallow changes to accounts. Otherwise your child can just turn it right back on.  For more information, see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4213
This presumes that your iPhone is running iOS 6. The option to disable Messages is not present in iOS 5, if my memory is correct.
    Regards.

  • I have DWCS4 - do I also need Contribute or does only the editor?

Hi - I have a site built in DWCS4 and the site owner wants to edit the pages remotely so best option is for him to use Contribute CS4.  Do I also need to buy Contribute CS4 in order to send him the 'key' and manage the templates, etc., or do I only need my DW and he only needs Contribute?  I have seen in Dreamweaver an option to "enable Contribute" but apart from that and seeing the videos of what Contribute can do, I don't know how to 'share' the site with the owner.  The site is built with template so would ideally like them only to be able to edit the editable regions and upload images, then I'm assuming I can "put" the modified files back on my system so we're in synch.  Any advice on all of the above would be great, if not just the main answer to the first question - do I need Contribute as well as DWCS4?
    many thanks all.

Which version of windows are you using?
Import pdfs into the photoshop elements 9 organizer, open the pdfs from the organizer into Adobe Reader or.....?

I just got my MIDI to USB cable, fired up Garageband.  I clicked the basic lessons, tried Play.  But the lesson guy is playing.  I'm the one who needs the practice, not him.  Please help.  I don't know what I'm doing.

    G35Guy:
Well, if that's the case, you must have a different finish on yours than I have on mine. Either that or you are extrordinarily careful when using it. Mine literally scratches when using a microfibre cloth. I would really like to know whether yours is somehow different. It would really piss me of if some people got a good quality exterior that doesn't scratch and some of us got the opposite. Did you try holding your player under a light to see if there is anything. You may just be looking at it in bad lighting. I find it hard to believe, unless your unit has a different type of plastic cover, that it hasn't received any type of scratches. Can you take a picture of it's It probably seems as though I don't believe you. That's not the case. Its just that I was so careful not to scratch it last night and it got scratched anyway. I have read of similar experiences by others who have the Vision:M as well.
I wish I could return mine and get a different color, it really upsets me that a $300 item that is meant to be hand held and used heavily scratches this easily!! If anyone from creative is reading this, I would like to know what you plan to do about it! I didn't pay all of that money to have this player look like Sh*t when I am only using it the way it was intended and am being very careful at that!

Thanks...now I need to do something about the iPod.
I'm not sure which version iPod you have, but I just checked my iPod nano (current generation) and it also has a Mono Audio setting in Settings>General>Accessibility.

    Hi sonnetje,
Kindly go through Creative Cloud pricing and membership plans | Adobe Creative Cloud
If you need it for 2-3 months please check of month-to-months plan as the Annual membership comes with a contact and there would be an early termination fee attached to it. which is 50% of the remaining months.
For more info check the below mentioned link.

  • Who's Up for a Challenge? (or who needs a good Color Picker?)

    Greetings,
I got lost in the muck trying to figure out how to make this color-picker code initialize with the last chosen color.... This is an open source project, and I posted my predicament on the blog for it, but it's been a few weeks and no one has responded. I've been able to integrate the code with my project no problem, it's just figuring out how to change this one behavior... the startup color seems to be hardcoded in several different places...
Seems like there's some folks here who enjoy a good challenge, so I thought I'd see if anyone might want to give it a shot.... I'm probably making it much more complicated than it is by starting from the wrong vantage point....
    The Blog: http://www.v-vent.com/blog/?p=27
    The Code: http://www.v-vent.com/source/hue/veventhuesource.zip
Any clues you have to offer would be greatly appreciated.... the idea seems simple enough....currently starts on yellow every time you load the view... would like it to start on the last color chosen, which is getting stored in user defaults....

Disclaimer: While the above is working, tested code, the files are not meant to be examples of good practice. The objective was to hose out most of the functional bugs while changing the old files as little as possible. This is usually the best first step in cleaning up a project, since it allows the original programmers to see the changes in the context of the existing structure. Those changes can be much more difficult to see after a complete overhaul. Improving the structure will also change the nib files, and describing those changes in the forum can be tedious.
Thus I perpetuated the structural weaknesses instead of moving most of the ivars, along with the code that administers them, into the ColorPickerViewController class. A number of useless but harmless artifacts were also left in the files.
Most of my tests were only for functionality on the simulator. Though I tried to take care of memory management in the code I added or changed, there's lots of memory management clean up to do. I did some brief tests on a first gen iPod Touch with iOS 3.12, and at first glance I was surprised how well things seemed to be working. I was even able to position the crosshairs in a couple corners after a few tries (e.g. at full brightness, the upper-right corner should be HSL: 255, 255, 255; RGB: 255, 0, 0). All four of these extrema are reachable on the simulator, and if you have steady hands and/or small fingers, they're probably all reachable on an iPhone as well.
    Enjoy!

  • Help! I need a recommedation for a Mac Book Pro or Air for a singer-songwriter who needs to burn CDs and makes 30 minute to hour-long recordings. Thanks!

I am a hypnotherapist and singer-songwriter who purchased Pro Tools and took a brief class, but I'm not an engineer and it is over my head. I am looking at purchasing a Mac Book Pro or Air to dumb down to a Garageband app in order to keep production moving while I learn Pro Tools.
Can anyone recommend which laptop to get? I now have a Dell Studio XPS with Pro Tools on it. Just need to keep my clients happy, and I make recordings that are 30 minutes to an hour long for them, then burn CD's and/or make mp3s that I email to them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Many thanks!

BTW (speaking as a Dad of 3 daughters in Grad school) if you don't already have and use a DropBox account, or some other similar online "cloud" based backup of your school documents, you should start doing so immediately. By keeping all of your important documents in the Dropbox folder on your computer, you have instant access to them from any other computer (or iPad), should you be w/o your computer while in for repairs (or if, God forbid, it is stolen). It's free for 2 GB of online storage, which is more than enough for a few years worth of Word documents, etc. (If you get other people to sign up via your email "invitation", then Dropbox gives you even more free storage space.) Every time you close a document, it is updated on the Dropbox servers (encrypted), if it is in the Dropbox folder (assuming you give it a few seconds to update before turning off your computer). Do a google search of "Cloud based storage comparisons" to compare the amount of free space each of the competing services give you.

  • Who needs the JavaFX runtime redistributable? Please "Stand up and shout!"

With the 1.2 release JavaFX gains more momentum and more attractivity. Also for the "classic" desktop application sector. It has the ability to give Java apps all the eye candy and smoothness in operation that many end-users pretend/believe "Java does not have".
My only problem (as a developer and ISV!) is: I cannot build and sell applications for my customers with JavaFX!
... at least not in the way most of my customers would prefer:
    - get the software as one single package,
    - put it in/on the PC
    - and USE it. Period.
There are many (very many!!!) customers (end-users!) who easily get very confused by:
    - having to install "something called JRE"(1) on their box
    - having to go to a certain website to get that JRE from
    - or, beeing confronted with the web start screens and security warnings.
So, I would say, for an ISV distribution as a single package that starts "out of the box" is maybe even more important than the rather "advanced" or "sophisticated" webstart. Actually, for many customers who do not have a technical background, beeing confronted with the mentioned technical details quickly becomes a real show-stopper. Sorry, but that's the way many people work and think.
That's not good for me. That's not good for all the other ISVs. And that's not good for Java and Sun, either, I think.
And, as an entrepreneur, I would not like falling into what in German would be called "betting on the wrong horse".
But, if I understand the license correctly, that is exactly what I cannot do: Bundle my applications with a JRE & JavaFX runtime, just as I would be allowed to do with the JRE only. So there is no way of an one-package offline distribution and installation. And thus no way to reach a significant amount of users - and customers!
So, my questions in short are:
    1) Is there someone at the forum, who shares my problems or fears?
    2) Is there someone from Sun at the forum who could tell me something about what to do with JavaFX in that case? Is there something I have forgotten, or is there simply no way. Or are there future plannings on changing the license in a less restrictive way? If so: what is the schedule and what could the changes look like.
    Best regards,
    Robert
    (1) Please don't get my irony wrong - I just frequently meet end-users who do not know much or even anything about Java or an JRE - sad but true ...

About 1): Yes, there are several questions about licensing and being able to distribute JavaFX applications offline, on computers not connected to Internet, among other requirements.
I would say your requirement are reasonable. I make for my work an install program deploying a JRE along a complete Java application, and for the user, he runs the application like any Windows application, no need to know it is Java based. That's nice and user friendly.

  • MS Project client vs. PWA: Who needs what in my organisation?

    Dear Forum,
I am currently rolling out Project Server 2010 and due to a limited number of MS Project Client licences available I need to manage the allocation of user licences carefully. In this course some questions came to my mind:
Who in my organisation needs the client and who can do with the PWA?
My rule of thumb and approach for peolple needing the client would be all People who actively need to schedule a Project and create and maintain a Project schedule. Linemanagers and Teammembers who only need to view the Project can
    do with the PWA.
Certainly the possibilities of introducing Standards are in my opinion greater with PWA (as I views and fields can be standardised easier). But creating a full schedule with PWA? I am not so sure...
What are your opinions and advice on this Topic?

I think you are on the right track. In general PWA is more suited for light weight schedule management, Tasks, Timesheets and collaboration. The Web Schedule management became much better with 2013 and Project Online, but I still recommend Project Pro for
    heavy schedule management.
This link gives you the key differences between both versions (it is for 2013, but 'most' of it applies to 2010 as well).

Having said that, you can attach templates to Enterprise project types, and let full schedules be created in PWA, and just let them be 'edited' t suit the project.

  • Do I Need Contribute, or What?

I have been maintaining an organization's website - free. I
was using FrontPage, but it - of course - is being phased out and
replaced by SharePoint. I have used the trial on this, but was not
overly impressed. Would Contribute be a better choice to continue
managing this site without knowing HTML and all of that. I learned
FrontPage (and SharePoint) by using them on the run...I do not need
anything too fancy, although i would like to start doing sites for
some small and homebased businesses that can't afford the usual
    fees from website developers...
    What do you think.

I don't think Contribute will address all of your needs.
Frontpage has much proprietary code that Contribute won't
recognize, and Contribute is only a mediocre web design tool. In
Adobe products, Dreamweaver would be the better choice. It can do a
wide spectrum of web design and development. It can also "convert"
Frontpage code to standard HTML. Contribute's strength is content
management, when you have multiple users adding content to a
    site.

  • Do I need Contribute AND Contribute Publishing Server?

Do I need to have Contribute Publishing Server installed on
the web server on order to update web pages with Contribute?
    - Andrea

    Hi,
I downloaded the trial of contribute cs3 and was able to
update web pages without cps. I'm still trying to figure out
    exactly what cps does though?

I would not recommend Contribute as the primary tool for
building and maintaining web sites. Of Adobe products, I would
certainly recommend Dreamweaver for that. Contribute is useful to
give to content managers controlled access to existing web pages
    within their content areas.
