Who's right and who's wrong as far as battery is concerned??

There are so many different viewpoints when it comes to taking care of the Mac battery. I just read that "Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time."
How come so many of you go against Apple's recommendation and think it's best to keep it plugged in all the time whenever possible? I'm very confused about how to take care of the battery.

I understand there are some serious limitations to NiCad - not the least which is cadmium toxicity. Still - there is no better battery chemistry for things like power tools, where the super-low internal resistance means far better efficiency with high drain devices.
I just recall that a lot of the calls to fully cycle NiCads on every opportunity might have been misplaced. Batteries simply lose capacity over time, and a good many people saw their gradual loss of capacity as a sign that they were suffering from "the memory effect". Even so, I have a AA/AAA battery charger with a so-called "conditioning" feature which drains the battery down until it reads 1V and then cycles. The manufacturer recommended this step every time for NiCads and once every 10 charges for NiMH. I also have one of their chargers with a "flex pulse" charge algorithm which they claim makes conditioning unnecessary by eliminating crystal formation. I once tried measuring voltage on a charging cell, and it was constantly varying the voltage as it charged.
However - I'm not sure how critical deep cycling is for ultimate longevity. The ideal situation for battery longevity is to only make use of the center of the charge range - what hybrid car owners call the "Sweet Spot". Something like a Toyota Prius tries to keep the battery range between 40-75% and can go through hundreds of thousands of these smaller cycles, when a traditional cell (using more of the charge range) is rated for 500-1000 cycles.

If you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then you can try going to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you might see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.

If he has not previously set up Find My iPhone, there is no way to
track the iPhone. Apple does not and will not track phones.
Immediately change all passwords. Hopefully he was using a passcode
to get by the lock screen. If he was, his data is protected; if not, anyone
who finds the iPhone can access anything that was on it.

No, it is a reversible plug. Either way is fine.
Just make sure you plug it in straight until it "clicks" into place. It may take a bit of force if new, but check there's nothing in the port first.

Update: The iBook can play any 480p video and higher if I encode them with DivX and in AVI format. But of course this is not compatible with my iPhone 4. At least I can shrink my library now and get away from the full MPEG-2s. I don't get why I can't use Apple's h264 though. There has to be a setting I am missing. The sample Apple h264 videos from the days of Tiger worked flawlessly on my iBook when it was new so the CPU must be capable of decoding it. I really can't understand this.
Also, since I made my videos in English for my family, I had to create soft subtitles for my wife's Chinese family, and I can't get players like QT with perian or MPlayerX to sync them properly to an AVI encoded with DivX, they only sync well with the iPhone 4 m4v/mp4 formatted files I made. This is a real pickle.
So now I may need three or four copies of each video, LOL. I need to hardcode the subtitles if I want to use AVI to playback on older machines, and keep the mp4 file for the iDevices too, while keeping higher quality h264 videos for my American relatives...
If h264 is compatible with my iBook, what is the proper encoding settings? Must I dramatically lower the settings or frame rate? I can settle on 2 copies of each video that way. One iBook/G4/eMac compatible video that syncs correctly with my srt soft subs, and another version that works well with my iPhone 4 and iPad.
All in all, I will end up with more than 3 or 4 version of each video. On my late G5 dual core I have the full 720-1080p uncompressed master files. On my i5 iMac I have the h264 compressed versions for distribution, and lower versions for my iDevices. Now I need to keep either full MPEG-2 files for the iBook to play, or convert to older formats like DivX AVI for our family's legacy machines. I am running out of hard disk space quick now, LOL.

5800. GPS getting right and left wrong

Bizarre as this these seem my Nokia 5800 Music express GPS has on occasions told me to turn left when it means right and the map is showing right turn and visa versa. Has anyone else that this problem and is there any fix?

What you are trying to do may not work with your touchpad. Normally when gaming it is best to use a mouse. The hardware is built different and you would find it easier to work with.

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now. They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.

I am an experienced .NET apps developer who has been tasked with writing a bunch of technical controls for all the SQL Server instances on a domain.
So for the last month I have been diving in the deep end learning Powershell, dba and infrastructure tasks. This is still a work in progress, so be kind to me.. ;o)
So the task I am stuck on is described in the section on 'Reviewing Windows NT Rights and Privileges Granted for SQL Server Service Accounts' http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143504(v=sql.105).aspx
I have not been able to find cmdlets that gives me this information. I have found some exes which come frustratingly close like NTRights.exe. This lets me specify a computer name which is great, but only seems to let you set or deny permissions, not just
list them!
Any help with this would be very much appreciated as I am firmly stuck. As per comments above also bear in mind that up until around 1.5 months ago I had never used powershell / knew very much at all about SQL server admin etc. Feeling much more comfortable
with them now, but much less so with Active Directory/ windows permission structures etc so please can I ask anyone kind enough to reply to try and keep the acronyms down as much as humanly possible.. ;o)

Changing date and time is wrong with time zone problem

Okay, searched some of the forums, but didn't get the most correct answer to this:
I just imported all my photos into Aperture from iPhoto (chose to have Aperture manage files as I don't plan on using iPhoto any longer. When I imported the files, I decided to do some organizing by date into folders. no problem.
In some of my projects, I found some files that I imported from scans or got from others who had a film roll and processed it at a lab, and the dates from those files aren't the dates that the event took place. I went into Metadata>Adjust date and time, and changed the date (not so much the time I'm worried about), and checked the "change the masters" little box, too.
After I close out of that box, the picture has the wrong date. I've determined this is because of the time zone support. I currently live in Japan, and I would like my photos here to show up as the date in the place they were taken. I think the date I enter, it thinks is the date I'm currently in (GMT +9), but aperture chooses to convert the date as if I was saying "hey, the picture I took happened on "date" in GMT +0:00)" which then makes it look in the metadata view as if it happened a day earlier.
Any imported photos come in as the correct date and time and correct time zone, as far as I can see. It's just when I change the date and time it thinks I mean to have aperture convert it to GMT + 0:00. (but on a little more of a funny side... older pictures that happened in other time zones back in the states it lists the correct date and time for when the picture was taken, but "says" it's GMT +9:00) (another issue I'll deal with later maybe!)

Program Objects Rights and Analytics Scheduling Error

Hi Guys,
I just would like to ask if you guys would know who to solve my problem with scheduling analytics. I've read a number of forums but it didn't help mush. Anyway, I'm getting 2 problems in doing this:
1. When i'm scheduling in the Infoview, it always fails. The error is "Could not authenticate using the provided operating system credentials"
So i went to the CMC>Application>Program Objects Rights> and did the following:
-check the Run scripts/binaris (as directed from other forums)
-Clicked the Schedule radio button in the "Schedule with the following operating system credentials."
-Placed a username and a password
Now, here's where my 2nd problem happens
2. Every time i set a password and try to save it, the page refreshes and removes the password.

My first thought is to not just apply permissions to the folder but be sure to apply them to all objects inside them. It would be interesting to see if you can rename this file, then rename it back to its original name; this would test permissions nondestructively.

Since installing LTR 5.4, which I've now upgraded to 5.6, I've encountered repeated slowness and malfunctions in operations, especially when using the Compare View function and the Tab key to open and close the right and left side panels. Such problems never arose during two years of using LTR-4 and nothing else has changed on my computer. I have a pretty simple system with only a few plug-ins, which are usually not in operation. I have 12GB of RAM in my Windows 7 PC. I could illustrate these problems with screen shots if you would tell me how to submit screen shots. Otherwise I will try to describe the problems in words.
The problem is clearly cumulative, growing worse as usage time passes. Compare View feature gradually slows down and eventually seems to choke as my work session proceeds. If I Exit LTR and re-enter and start all over, things will work normally for maybe 30 minutes, but then the Compare View feature begins to become very slow to respond. In a recent example with my screen full of thumbnails in Library mode I highlighted two images to compare. LTR started to open the Compare View screen by first having the top row of thumbnails disappear to be replaced by the "SELECT" and "CANDIDATE" words in their spaces (but no images), but Compare View never succeeded in gaining control of the screen. After some seconds the top row of thumbnails reasserted its position and the Compare View windows disappeared. But LTR kept trying to bring them back. Again the top row of thumbnails would go away, Select and candidate would reappear, try again, and give up. This went on for at least 2-3 minutes before I tried to choose File and Exit, but even that did not initially want to respond. It doesn't like to accept other commands when it's trying to open Compare View. Finally it allowed me to exit.
To experiment I created a new catalog of 1100 images. After 30-40 minutes, the Compare View function began to operate very slowly. With left and right side panels visible and two thumbnails highlighted, hitting Compare View can take half a minute before the two mid-size images open in their respective SELECT and CANDIDATE windows. When the side panels are open and two images are in the Select/Candidate spaces, hitting the Tab button to close the side panels produces a very delayed response--25-30 seconds to close them, a few more seconds to enlarge the two images to full size. To reverse the process (i.e., to recall the two side panels), hitting Tab would make the two sides of the screen go black for up to a minute, with no words visible. Eventually the info fields in the panels would open up.

CANDIDATE appears on the left side of SELECT, whereas it should be on the right. The accompanying camera exposure data appears almost entirely to the left of the mid-screen dividing line.
