Who's using my internet???

Hello, I was wondering if their was a way to check to see who is on my wireless network. I'm using a linksys wireless-b router model BEFW11S4 (if that helps). In the last couple days my wireless connection to a certain computer has been very slow plus today its giving me the low limited connectivity error message. Which causes it not to connect to my router. I went into my linksys router setup, changed the password. Now i go into Status, then Local Network then DHCP Client List. Now I kinda remember which names i put on my computers, I have the main one thats connected thrue an ethernet to my router, then 2 other wireless ones in other rooms. I saw that my pc's listed on that list but I also see a 4th connection named "Kayla" connected thrue a wireless connection. I just dont know any kayla's and im starting to guess it might be one of my neighbor's leeching my wifi. I know this is a dumb question but how do I check to see what every one of my pc's is named, so that i can identify whos who on that client list. Also my original question is , how can I see whos on my wifi, other than that setup page way. Any suggestions tips will help, thank you.

The DHCP client list is one resource to find about computers which use DHCP to get an IP address.
The Wireless MAC Client List shows you currently connnected clients. You should find this list somewhere on the Wireless MAC Address Filtering tab (I don't know how it is called on your router).
I would go through all your computers and write down the MAC addresses of the ethernet and wireless card/adapter. You can see the MAC address either printed on a label on the computer/card/adapter or you can open a command prompt window in Windows ("Run..." and enter "cmd") and enter "ipconfig /all". The "physical address" is the MAC address. It consists of 12 hexadecimal digits separated by '-' or ':'. Be sure to pick the right one for the ethernet adapter (local area connection) and your wireless card.
If you see other MAC addresses in the wireless client list of the router someone else is connecting to your router (and possibly your network, your computers, your internet connection). You can search for the manufacturer of the wireless card at the IEEE website. You enter the first six digits of the MAC address (e.g. 00-b2-a1) into the search field and it returns the company to is allocated to. Maybe this gives you an idea...
Have you setup wireless security. For a secure router/wireless network you must:
- change the router configuration password from 'admin' to something else.
- change the network name/SSID to something unique.
- enable WPA or WPA2 security with a strong preshared-key.
Don't use WEP, it is cracked within a few minutes. The wireless mac address filtering list won't really protect it either as MAC addresses are easily forged.

  • Who is using my internet

Is there a way to find out who is hooked up to my airport?  My internet?

Yes. Use Airport Utility - click Advanced, > Logs and Statistics > Logs. You will see the MAC addresses of the devices connected to your Airport. They're cryptic, but if you familiarize yourself with the MAC addresses of all your devices it's easy to spot an intruder. If you use a network password there won't be any intruders unless they determined your password. In that event, change it.
MAC addresses are almost always printed somewhere on the exterior case of network devices. Keep a list of them in a convenient place.

  • Can I see who's using my internet connection?

Is there any kind of diagnostic software that lets me see if someone else is piggy-backing my internet connection?
I have a wireless network that's password protected but I seem to get some strange behaviour sometimes & I was curious to see if anyone else was using my connection.

The Airport Management Tools will show which devices by MAC address are connected to your network.

That has nothing to do with OS X or your iMac, if you think someone has been using your Internet connection then you need to turn on the security on your WI-FI router. Please look in the owners manual of your router for instructions.

  • I don't have a question so much as a comment for APPLE. I am a new iPhone 5s user and it has many things I like but It is too small and I can only talk on the phone and use the internet if i am in a position to use a wifi connection and that is not good

I am a new iPhone 5s user. I like many of the features it offers. I don't like that I cannot talk and use the internet (if I am away from WI-FI) and this phone is too small. I am actually thinking of returning it and going back to an Android. After all the hassle it took to get all my stuff working on this phone , it may be worth the switch. This phone needs to be able to multitask freely in this day and age. Also Safari is not the best search engine but I could work with it if I could talk and use it at the same time. I use my phone for business and this is a feature that is needed in my line of work.

I understand that the OP failed to do research. But then, I wasn't replying to the OP. I was replying to Chris. I have Verizon. I can talk and use data at the same time with my Droid Maxx. Therefore, the problem is not just with the network. It would be technically possible for an iPhone to do that on Verizon/Sprint if Apple had chosen to use a different chip, such as the kind other phone manufacturers have elected to use.
Of course, this is probably all irrelevant to the OP's issue. It was merely a point of clarification, especially for those people who are used to being able to use both voice and data at the same time on Verizon. When they switch to an iPhone, they are often surprized at the limitation.
    Best of luck.

  • IPhone shuts off when I use the internet on the 3G network & I can't upgrade/restore because of network connection error. Any Help?

A few months ago, while on the 3G network, my iPhone 3GS starting turning off randomly when I was using safari or an online app and the battery was somewhere around 5-20%. When this happened the only way to get the phone back on was by fully charging it which sometimes took a few hours even. It wasn't a big deal at the time because it was infrequent and while the phone was at a low battery %. However, in the past few months, around the time I upgraded to iOS 5.1 it started happened more and more often and at higher and higher battery percentages. It is now at a point where my phone shuts off every time I connect to the 3G network regardless of what my battery life is. I have called Rogers several times to complain about this and I have been told it is because of the battery for the most part but I don’t buy it; the problem has got to be more significant than the battery alone because I can listen to music and send texts at anytime and fully use the internet when I am connected to Wi-Fi. I more recently talked to someone in tech support from Rogers who said my phone cannot support the iOS 5.1 software and that is why it is crashing. They also asked if my phone was heating up more now than in the past and it is. They said this was further evidence that my phone was couldn't handle the new software and was basically on overload.  I was told to the best solution was to "Back Up" my iPhone then do a full "Restore". Here is where my next problem comes along. I cannot "Restore" my iPhone without doing an upgrade and every time I attempt to "Upgrade & Restore" an error message pops up that says "There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone "...". The network connection timed out/was reset. -Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later". I have followed all of the protocol that is readily available online to address this problem but still no success. I disabled my firewall and anti-virus programs, I have ensured my connection is active and stable, I have upgraded to the newest iTunes, I have uninstalled iTunes and all apple programs in the correct order then reinstalled iTunes, I have disabled my DNS cache. Nothing works.
If you have any advise whatsoever please share as it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I was actually able to upgrade to the newest software, iOS 5.1.1 without connecting to my computer/iTunes but rather directly through my phone when I was home on Wi-Fi. After the upgrade I plugged my phone into a different USB port at the back of my computer and was able to do a full restore. I really don't think the USB port had anything to do with it because I use the same front USB port all the time with my external hard drive and other devices wuth no problems at all; regardless of what the actual solution was, I am now able to connect to iTunes and upgrade/restore without any problems so that half of my problem is resolved.
I have yet to leave my house since doing the upgrade/restore so I am not sure if the problem with my phone crashing when I use the interent on the 3G is still an issue. I will test it today and tomorrow and give you an update.
    Thanks

    Hello,
The services you listed in your post will require a data plan which is provisioned by your wireless provider. You may want to contact your wireless provider to see if you have the correct plan.

We bought an iphone 4s for our daughter. We transfered it to straight talk. She can make calls and text no problem. She can use the WiFi but is unable to use the internet or mms. How do we update the APN?

To clarify for anyone who is still having any problems doing this.
    1. Unlock your phone with the carrier ( I know the process will work if it is jail broken but I am assuming you dont want to void the warranty on your phone) NOTE: even if you purchased the phone outright at Wal-Mart it is still locked to ATT so you will have to unlock the phone.  If it's already unlocked skip to step 2.  This works and will work even if you update the phone.
1a Here is the link to unlock a ATT iphone. Simply follow the instructions https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/client/en_US/
    2. Get a T- mobile SIM. Even if you don't want the service, if you feign interest, they will send you one for free or 99cents. If you need it now you can get one at a T-mobile store too.
    3. Once you have both your Straight talk SIM and your T-mobile SIM follow these instructions:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFFf5uqk18M
    4. If you have any remaining questions look at all the responses posted previously on this thread or check out the Howard Forums Wiki: http://wiki.howardforums.com/index.php/Straight_Talk_iPhone
Everything should work flawlessly at this point.  If not let me know and I'm happy to help when I can.  I hope this makes doing this very easy for everyone in the future. God Bless -J

I bought a second hand 4s iphone and I can't use the internet on 3g even though it looks like I'm connected ... can you help please?

    Who's your carrier?
    What country are you in?
Was it from a shop or a personal deal?
If your phone doesn't function on the cellular network, goto the carrier first

  • Is it possible to use the Internet User Alias?

    Hi,
We are currently authenticating users against an LDAP datasource and pulling back the employee id as the SAP username in order to provide the correct authorisations. The problem with this is that we then have to create another user account for people who require R/3 access via the GUI.
What we want to be able to do is to use the Internet user alias against their R/3 account so that we essentially only have 1 account to maintain for each user.
Does anyone know how this can be achieved?
    Thanks in advance!
    Keith

If you are using ABAP for your UME user store, the LDAP IDs are probably stored as aliases in the backend ABAP system. If that's the case, your users already have corresponding, automatically generated, backend R3 IDs. Trying searching by alias for one of your web users and see if there is a user master record for that user. They can log into SAPGUI using that auto-generated ID, although you may need to assign a password first. From the user perspective, it will still seem like they have two different accounts though, since the login ID will be something new for sapgui.

Just started happening a few days ago and I have had my computer for about 6 months. • How to to update a friend's 10.8 Mac, who lives out of Internet range?

To to update a friend's 10.8 Mac, who lives out of Internet range, I used to take her downloaded Software Update files on my USB drive. With 10.8.2 her machine now rejects my update files and insists it must have Internet access. How do I help her in future? There are many remote places in Australia where there is no Internet access, not even dialup.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You should be able to update OS X without Internet. As she is running OS X 10.8, download OS X 10.8.2 Combo and OS X 10.8.2 Supplemental Update, copy them to a USB drive and install them in this order. You shouldn't be prompted to connect the computer to the Internet
