Who succeeded using special keys in KDE?

Hi,
I'm using Gnome, but I really love KDE.The reason that I don't use KDE is hotkey/special key issues. I can't get my x61 thinkpad's special keys to work in KDE such as:
Fn+F2
Fn+F4
Fn+F6
...No on-screen notification for volume keys and brightness keys
I've tried so many distrospensuse kde, kubuntu, debian, and pclinuxos, but I can't get them worked.
Anyone who is successfully using KDE please advice!
Thanks!

ewaller wrote:When I was using xfce4 exclusively, I just used the xfce4 services for keyboard shortcuts and they worked perfectly.  You might just go to the settings menu->keyboard and map key presses to actions there.
That's what I'm doing, and that's what's not working  8-)
It looks like xbindkeys is the way to go.
Thanks all for your comments and assistance.

  • Use special string as key of DES

I want to use a special string as key of DES.
I f I want to use a string which length is more than 8 as key, what should I do?
    Thanks

Although DES has been designed for using keys composed of eight 7-bit ASCII characters with parity (i.e., plain-text passwords), you do not need to use such "weak" keys. Common passwords have almost no "entropy" (i.e., random information); so you must not use passwords directly in any algorithm (DES, AES, RC4 etc.).
Remember - keys are not passwords; keys can be derived from passwords. Cryptographic algorithms usually use keys, not passwords.
The PBE algorithm (Password-Based Encryption) use passwords for encrypting, but do not use the passwords directly. It calculates a special function than derives a key from a password.
Study the PBE algorithm instead of trying to use the password as a key directly.
I will give an example to make you understand the problem better.
There is a class of functions called "cryptographic hashes" that works "digesting" the bytes you pass to it.
They receive any quantity of bytes as input, and return a fixed-size result (160 bits = 20 bytes for SHA-1, 128 bits = 16 bytes for MD5).
Examples of cryptographic hash are the MD5 and SHA-1 functions.
I will give several words that are very near in spelling, but their hashes are completely different.
    The SHA-1 of "password" is 5BAA61E4 C9B93F3F 0682250B 6CF8331B 7EE68FD8
    The SHA-1 of "passwords" is A267F7DB A707256B 0B664DEE 86AB9AE8 B4941218
    The SHA-1 of "passwort" is 2E2B6533 A81BC154 30CF65DE 46DC097E EB5BA70C
    The SHA-1 of "Password" is 8BE3C943 B1609FFF BFC51AAD 666D0A04 ADF83C9D
If you modify a byte in the content, the value is completely altered. You can see that the SHA-1 of "password" and "Password" are completely different.
The "naive" way of deriving a key from a password is simply to calculate the SHA-1 of the password, throwing out the unneeded bits (for instance, if you use DES, you can use only the first 8 bytes - 64 bits of the SHA-1 value.)
The PBE algorithm uses a more sofisticated and secure scheme but the inspiration is that you can derive a key from a password, and use the key to encrypt your data.

Well I am truly staggered, I have tried this on two different MacBook Pros, with three different external USB optical drives. Don't know if you googled as I suggested but you would find hundreds of others who have found same thing. The exception is MacBook Air which works with the Apple writer, but I don't know much about this.
Were you doing any of the special workarounds with refedit etc?
    What model USB DVD drive?

  • COPA reporting using costing keys

    Hi,
I am using costing keys to access the different cost estimates in COPA. I have done the necessary configuration - created valuation strategy and assigned a point of valuation and assigned two costying keys - one for current and one for future costs. I have also mapped my value fields to each cost component. I mapped the one value field twice (representing each costing key) to each cost component.
My question is, when it comes to reporting, how do I show the values seperately that correspond to each costing key? Since I have the same value field being valued with current and future cost estimates, how are these shown separately in the COPA report? Or do I have to use two different value fields per cost component?
    Much Appreciated

Just read the SAP documentation which says that you need to enter different value fields for the different costing keys (up to six).
    Thanks to those who attempted.

  • How do i find out who is using my airport express?

I have an airport express to extend my Wifi coverage and i am sure other people who have asked for the password in the past are still using it. Is there a way to see who is using it, when and block people? I could change the password, but I would like to find out first who is using it.

    1) Open AirPort Utility
    2) Hold down the option key on your Mac
    3) Keep holding the option key while you double click on the AirPort Express icon in the center of the AirPort Utility window
    4) Release the option key after you double click
Something like the example below will appear, with the Summary tab highlighted.....which in this example shows that there are two devices currently connected to the wireless network. If you click on the arrow next to each listing, then more information will be revealed about that particular device.

how can i use FND POPID and with COLUMN clause ?

    Dear Yaseen,
To get the value in formula cumulative, after you have created the formula for that particular key figure,go to edit and click on tab "calculations".
In that select overall result as 'count all values not equal to zero' and single result as 'count all values not equal to zero' .
And mark the cumulative check box underneath.
I hope you get the desired result and please do me favour .

    Hi.
I had the same problem when i specified a cakey.pem file that was encrypted. For
some reason, WLS doesnt seem to support a scheme where it prompts for a password
to use for decryption of the private key. Try to decrypt the private key:
openssl rsa -in cakey.pem -out ca_unsafe.pem and deploy this certificate instead,
    then it will work ;-)

  • Change keyboard configuration for special keys

    Hi guys,
I want to change the default behaviour for some special keys when running windows.
I want the Cmd (Mac) key to be the Alt (Win) key and the Fn (Mac) key to be the Ctrl (Win) key.
    Is this possible?

Thanks for your answer Fortuny, but it seems the Ctrl and Alt keys can't be re-mapped using that application... I'll keep searching
Edit: You pointed me in the right direction I found a similar application to the MSKLC called SharpKeys, I was not able to edit the Fn key, but at least a could remap the left Cmd key to be the Alt key.

  • Re: Using Alt-Key combinations

Unfortunately this happens not only with Alt-Key combinations. It also
happens with the ordinary F10 key: Windows activates the menu and then
Forte gets the FKey event. The problem is that now the user has to press
ESC to deactivate the menu and continue normal processing. There is no
    known cure yet...

trying to find a menu item with that shortcut combination or a button with
that combination. Since Windows can not find the proper element with that
combination, it beeps at us. At that point, Forte picks up the key
combination and will post the FunctionKeyPress event.
The application will work fine, but the beep is not only annoying, but also
is misleading for those individuals using accessibility tools like screen
readers who rely upon audible queues for detecting errors in keyboarding.
Has anyone found any viable solutions to this problem?--

Ah ha - okay. So you're using escapes too, rather than meta8 (this is the default, so makes sense). Yeah, I got it working doing that, but had to adapt my .vimrc to get it to acknowledge the ^[ as "alt". Didn't you, or did a simple map of e.g. <A-a> suffice?
Are you running it in screen/tmux btw? and what is your TERM set to?
Yeah, I thought that too and though I do run it in tmux usually, I've been testing it both with and without (TERM is set to screen-256color BTW) and it made no difference. Still, unless I specifically map the ^[ to alt in vim, it doesn't work. With meta8 it works so long as the locale is not UTF-8.
Guess I've got a workaround for now, but it would be nice if meta8 and utf-8 worked nicely together.
    Thanks.
Could you please show how your vimrc looks like? I have the same problem and I'm interested in your workaround.

  • Using Alt+Key shortcuts in Chromeless application makes windows beep

Tell me I'm correct about the following:
It is impossible to use mx:MenuBar with mnemonics and/or have 'Ctrl+Alt+Key' appear in the menu as you can with FlexNativeMenu or NativeMenu.
It is impossible to use any Alt+Key shortcuts to activate a control without Windows® beeping at you when you use the key.
It is impossible to use a s:Button or even an mx:Button with an underlined letter without making a specific skin just for that button.
It is impossible to comprehend why such a standard activation method -- using the Alt+Key would be overlooked by a company leading the pack in RIA or any other type of interface development.
So who is on drugs, I hope it is me and not Adobe.
Wait, don't tell me-- you want me to extend your framework so it includes these fundamental things??

After further research, the way to get around alt-key beeping and get rid of the system menu in a chromeless app is to use:
    stage.displayState = StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN_INTERACTIVE;
and then do some restructuring so your outer client window is now fully transparent and has no skin, and your inner client window is a child who can be moved or sized in its container.
But, this solution does not allow native window states: Minimized, etc. The best you can do is emulate them, but the OS will only see a window that only has one possible state.
Since it has no system/native menu, the OS won't beep on alt+key. I am speaking of windows only, and have no idea what goes on in a Mac environment with this work-around.

Hi mikenowo, sry I haven't got any more ideas on this one.
In an effort to bump this back up toward the top of the list, here's a couple more questions for you:  Is ur Vista current with updates i.e. SP1 and/or SP2?  And have you, by chance, disabled the "kbd" services from start up?  (KBD.exe runs the special buttons on the keyboard.  Needs to have a check mark next to it, like this.)
And an observation:  I googled ur error message and, from my brief survey, this oslangdec thing appears to be an hp specific issue with windows operating systems, both xp and vista, a compatability/emulation conflict of some type?  I even found one thread where someone posted a pic almost identical to the one u posted.   Here's the link to that forum thread.   And here's the pic *he* posted (almost two yrs ago).  You will see in that thread that he's not even talking about keyboards; he is having a problem with audio drivers.   This tells me that the problem is not specific to the keyboard driver - but to certain 3rd party driver installation in general?  Unfortuantely noone every followed up with any solution either in this thread or any others I found.  But I bring it up now in case someone else in these forums has any idears.
    Good luck.
