It is my understanding that Final Touch is much faster than daVinci.
You are in error...
Depends on the operator and the machine. With a DaVinci you are going tape to tape and the colorist is coloring each shot. When they are done, then they press play and all their settings apply in real time as the tapes roll.
With Final Touch, you have to render your final product after you do all the coloring. Typically the render will take longer than it takes a tape to play, depending on the machines processor power. But still, 4-5 hours for a 30-60 minute show...darn slow. If you had the same colorist on both, Final Touch would be slower.
BUT...the advantage is that you color BEFORE you go to tape. So doing your texted and textless outputs are darn easy.

If you want to see what is in a file that is backed up by time machine then you have to restore the entire file. Having said that I have had good experience with Time Machine and individual files... if the file is there then all of it's components are almost for sure there. A way to get around this in Aperture would be to use referenced images. The images then still exist as individual files and can be backed up and restored individually. You would have to do so on a file by file basis though and your album information would still only be saved within the Aperture library.

Can I use my MAC Mini in conjunction with my iMAC? I can not upgrade the OS of the iMAC due to software that I need and Lion does not support it.
If I could bounce back an forth or use the software from the MAC Mini with the iMAC, this would solve my dilemma.

Well, let take the personal service point of view : let say, I had two calendars on my iCloud account : one for work, one for my leisure activities.
On my MacBook Pro that I use at home as well as at my office, I would want the two calendars to show and since I am alone in my office, I would want the alerts for both my work and my leisure activities to show (and make a sound at the same time).
But on my iPad that I only use at home, I would only want my leisure activities alerts to show (and make a sound) and on my iPhone that I only use for work, I would only want my work alerts to show (and make a sound).
That is a personal service that simply does not work.
Why would Apple give us the opportunity to hide some calendars on certain devices but not allow us, on these same devices, to switch off the alerts linked to these calendars that we have chosen to hide ? Why having alerts of calendars that do not even show on these devices ?
And I am an Apple fan since 1984, since the very first Mac. I still do believe Macs and Apple devices and/or software (iOS, OS X and others...) are much better and much more efficient than " Microsoft, Windows, Google and other Android devices and software.
But that does not mean everything's perfect (and I find that quite normal).
Nevertheless, in this case, letting alerts make a sound on a device where a specific calendar is not shown, that does not make any sense : when uncheking those calendars, the alerts linked to those calendars should be automatically switch off (but alerts should be able to work on the calendars that are shown.)

Periodically double click the home button and close all the apps in the recently used dock. Then power off and then back on the iPod. This frees up memory. The 4G only has 256 MB of memory.

Try a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider if that appears. See if that clears the glitch.

White lines using Quick Selection Tool in conjunction with the Content Aware Fill.

When using quick selection tool in conjunction with the content aware fill i get a white line where the image join is.
How do i stop this from happening?
Basically, i need the select tool to 'over select' into the next photo so its a seamless fills.
This isn't a complex seletion, its a photomerge with blank, white areas that i am filling in using content away fill.

The first time I connected my new My Passport portable hard drive to my MacBook Pro, the message asking if I want to use the drive to back up with Time Machine did not appear. I would like to set it up to do this. What would my next step be?

Drive Partition and Format
1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Open Time Machine preferences to select this drive for use as the backup drive. Turn on Time Machine.

Is it possible to use run-time configuration in conjunction with Session Manager?

I'm trying to avoid using MAX, basically because it's a pain for users to configure MAX when the application already knows what the configuration is. I actually get the configuration from a database, but that's another story. I've experimented with run-time configuration (see page 4-31 of the 'IVI Driver Toolset' manual) and it works fine. However, when I try to use this in conjunction with Session Manager, session manager complains that my logical name is not a driver session name. I suspect that Session Manager is looking up logical names from a different source, therefore run-time configuration won't work. Any suggestions? I've attached the files I'm working with.

Hello Mark:
The Session Manager GetLogicalNames method does not distiguish between logical names and virtual instrument names. A user of the method cannot ask for just logical names or just virtual instrument names. Right now you always get both. The new function is called InstrSessionMgr.GetNames. Notice that the online help file says Boolean for the flags parameter when it is an enum.

IOS7 issues with getting unwanted contacts from another person who used to share an iCloud account with me....

I used to share an iCloud account with my sister (mainly for music/iTunes reasons). After downloading iOS7, I got all her contacts so I made my own iCloud account in order to separate our contacts, calendars, etc. Now her contacts are gone from my phone list but when I text, they still show up when I am selecting a recipient. How do I get rid them?

I have heard it suggested on forums that presently FCP has a preference to convert HDV to prores and that if you want to work with GOP, the files have to be converted to prores in compressor for the workflow?
How does FCP handle native GOP as a workflow rather then converting to prores? I have a Macbook 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB ram and am worried that my system will not be fast enough to work with this material?
Also, if I work with native GOP and set the render to prores 442, will this have any effect on the performance on FCP (bearing in mind the speed of my machine)?

When capturing from HDV via Firewire you have the option to capture as native HDV, Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) or Apple ProRes 422. All of these formats are natively supported formats that you can easily work with in FCP. Your post title suggests that you are actually working with an EX1 and so would not be capturing HDV via Firewire. With the EX1 your basic choice would be direct clip transfer via the Sony's Log and Transfer plugin or by using Sony's XDCAM Transfer app, neither of which provide transcode during capture to any other codec. Such captured footage would have to be transcoded after capture, using Compressor or similar, if you wished to work natively in a different format. Alternatively you could use a third party I/O device to capture your footage to another format via the camera's HD-SDI output.

FCP handles working with native HDV easily. With FCP 6 you also have the option of choosing to work with the native HDV and have FCP handle all rendering using the Apple ProRes 422 codec. Another option in FCP is the Open Format Timeline, which like the rendering option above, allows you to edit with the native HDV clips directly in an Apple ProRes 422 timeline. Your MacBook should be fast enough to handle any of the above workflow choices, though my recommendation for you would be to work in a native HDV timeline with renders set to ProRes. That set up would probably provide the maximal performance for your system.
Also, if I work with native GOP and set the render to prores 442, will this have any effect on the performance on FCP (bearing in mind the speed of my machine)?

Who uses a 2600K on Z68 mobo with Quicksync,Virtu, Dmode/Imode?

Now they advertise with encoding acceleration on the Z68 chipset mobo's by new technologies like Quicksunc, Virtu in Imode or Dmode ( Asus brand)
combining the power of the 2600K internal graphics chip and your Nvidia video card.
Does anyone have any experience ?Or do we forget about it?

Sorry I have not been on the forums lately. I have been so busy, I have been unable to really keep an eye on the forums. The Virtu does not support CUDA based applications last I checked and does not work with Adobe. You have to manually switch the primary screen to switch between the Nvidia card and the Intel video to switch to Quicksync. You also have to run atleast Premiere without the Intel display active while using the MPE engine or the system will BSOD. The Quicksync has some decent export options but the quality reports are not the best. I would avoid Quicksync at the moment until Intel gets past the SDK/testing stage on this.

Use 10.8.2, but somehow with old version of Notes

Until yesterday, I accessed Notes easily and pretty much daily. However, did a Spotlight search for a list of DVDs, and that turned my 10.8.2 Notes to a smaller virtual tablet.
This is what I get:
It looks like a prior version of Notes, like an older version. I can't use (Cmd-Q) to quit the Note; I can only Force Quit. Nothing happens if I tap on the Garbage can icon on Notes.
What should I do to fix this bug? How do I get my prior, fully functional Notes working again?

I always respond to my own questions, and I guess I'm doing this solo this time.
I looked through prior posts, and discovered a solution: Go to ~/System/Containers folder, and delete the plist file; don't touch the data file in the same folder. Reboot. Notes miraculously returns to normal - though I couldn't tell you what happened.

HT4059 I have IPad Air. I use Drop Box. Downloaded manuscript with Ipad air does not down load completely, no images. I used Ipages, and Files Pro. Mac IOS does it and windows XP.

There is an Apple document which specifies that key 1 should be used for WEP configuration and recommends using WPA or WPA2 for wireless security: iPad: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections. It's too bad that you didn't find this when you had problems.
The iPad will work with WPA-TKIP or WPA2-AES. AES provides much stronger security. There is much misinformation on the Internet on this subject.
WEP is insecure, obsolete and has been deprecated by the IEEE since 2004. There is no chance that Apple or anyone else will waste resources on enhancing WEP implementations. For more information on the tattered history and vulnerabilities of WEP read this: WEP - Wired Equivalent Privacy
