Who uses his Mega 180 to record TV programs

Hello there,
I just placed my order for the Mega 180.
One feature that interesses me is the recording capabilities in combination with the MSI TV card.
I read somewhere that you can program the mega 180 to start recording a TV program.
Another feature that interesses me is... can you for example browse images/picture with only connected to a TV screen and not a computer monitor?
Thx,
Koen

Hi Koen,
I too have just ordered the MEGA 180, and received the base unit. According to the users manual the MSI media software will allow you to record TV programs, with the optional TV tuner, time shift, ie buffer record for quick review, and also set scheduled events for recording. Goto the msi.com.tw website and download the manual while you are waiting, and do some interesting reading. I hope to use the unit as a PVR [personal video recorder] just like the new Panasonic Digital Video Recorders can do.
As far as the viewing of pictures, the manual on the Media Software indicates that this is possible using the Full Screen option [ viewable from across the room] to play a slide show [with/out music] play media files, even possibly stream them to another workstation. Proof is in the pudding!
If only 1/2 of the claims work out, I'll be happy.....
Regards.....
Larry

  • Anyone who used WordPerfect remembers their macros--atimesaving "mini-program" (I think they called it) so you wouldn't have to retype often-used text like your name, address, phone number. How do I do this in Firefox?

I'm sure Firefox has a shortcut so I don't have to retype often-used text over and over again (like my name, address, phone #).
If anyone remembers using WordPerfect, "macros" was their tool for accomplishing this.
    What's the shortcut in Firefox?

Firefox does have what is called "Form Autocomplete". It remembers frequently used form entries (such as a name), and suggests them next time you fill out a form.

  • MEGA 180 as Media Center (experiences)

I am trying to use my MEGA 180 as a Media Center, i.e. to listen to radio and CD's, to watch TV and DVD's, and to use the HDD to record programs on temporarily to watch later. Plus the TV pause facility. I am using Windows XP home on it, and have all the latest Windows patches. I don't want to have a PC screen atached to it, so the listening needs to be done without turnig the TV on, and the rest without any tiny writing on the screen etc.
HiFi mode works fine for the listening to radio and CD's.
Once I start PC mode, windows boots to the login screen. I would like to boot straight into a Media Center application, missing out this login screen. Any ideas?
I have tried Media Centre Deluxe III, and ShowShifter. Although I much prefer ShowShifter, it has to be ruled out as it does not use the LCD display at all (as far as I know!). Media Center Deluxe III has a lot of functionality missing, and is a little unstable, but it generally does the job. Has anyone had experiences with other packages?
I have found how to give the radio channels proper names (editing a text file with the details called .freq). I can't do the same with the TV channels. Also I haven't found how to remove all the junk TV channels found during the auto-scan. Anyone with any ideas here.
What about a list of remote key functions. I have found quite a few, but I think we could all gain from a documented list of them. They certainly aren't in the manual that I downloaded.
I have noticed that the whole unit powers on sometines when I use the remote for my old video recorder. I have not yet identified the exact cause of this. I also have an infra-red wireless keyboard that may giving it the wakeup indication, but I'm not sure if it was in sleep or power down. The standby mode seems to lock up the box, i.e. it does not power up again properly.
What about getting EPGs and setting the unit up to record TV programs. Can it be set to a no-noise state whilst waiting for the show to start, and then power to that state again when the recording has finished. I have toyed with the boot-up clock in the BIOS, but have not had it working yet.
This could be such a great box given the right software.

    Autologon with windows XP
I Use TweakUI to autologin windows xp
    you can download it here
    Set native resolution to 768x576
I also use TVtool to set the resolution to 768x576 which is the native PAL resolution. This prevents that stuff gets scaled
However, note that MediaCenter III Deluxe doesnt work nicely with it
    Many stuff will b offscreen
    Remote control
I use Girder for my remote control. It allows me to control all programs using a remote control (unfortunaly not msi's remote control).
    TV Guide
Try to see if there's XMLTV support for your country. Many HTPC support XMLTV to show a TVguide

  • MEGA 180? please help

im currently looking into building (once my student loan cums in) a mega 180 c,with an Athlon xp 3000, 2x512mb ddr,160gb hdd and a tv turner card, asfter ready all the posts around here regarding cooling its really beginning to put me of, i am wondering if 1) the cooling is as bas as it sounds 2) does ne one use there mega 180 for standard pc work (office, internet, msn messenger) as well as the fun side (radio,tv,dvd etc)
also does ne one know when the new mega is due out,i understand its going to b based around the amd64 so if its due out soon, obviously dont wanna get it to find out its o-o-d in a few months, wud rarther wait
    thanks in advance pps

    1. Yes it is quite bad but reversing the fans, lapping the heat sink(I didn't do this) and putting some good thermal compound on the CPU instead of the factory fit stuff goes a long way to removing the problem.
    2. I use mine for development in VS.NET and BEA Weblogic, also graphic apps like Fireworks, PSP and Web GUIs like Dreamweaver and Visual Interdev also add Word, Visio, SourceSafe and  I also have the odd dip into a game or three and tend to a few baddies, it is a great setup and i'm sure will not disappoint you :-)

  • MEGA 180 Hard drives

How hot are peoples hard drives running???
After using the MEGA 180 to watch a 1.5hr DVD the temp of my hard drive gets upto approximately 57C. I have it placed in the top HDD bay resting on 3 small pieces of foam so its isolated from the case. This stops any vibrations and makes the system a lot quieter but probably contributes to the high temperatures.
The other thing with the 7200rpm drive is the high pitched whine as im normally sat close to the PC. Its highly directional and i think a characteristic of most 7200rpm drives.
    Im seriously thinking about getting a Samsung SV1604N (160GB 5400rpm 2MB).
Hopefully it will be quieter, without the high pitched squeal, and run cooler with the lower spin rate.... any comments or ideas ???

  • Mega 180 Noise Level

    Hello.
I'm pretty happy with my Mega 180 except for 2 points which seems to be common to nearly every poster of this forum : noise and heat. I'm using my Mega 180 mainly as a PVR (running myHTPC) and even if heat is a concern, I am much more annoyed with noise.
My first step will be to replace the fans of the Mega 180 with quieter ones such as Papst or Noiseblocker. Does somebody know the reference of each of the four fans of the Mega 180 so that I can compare the CFM ? As heat is also an issue, I cannot just pick a quieter fan and use it ...
    Many thx in advance.
    Cheers.

I had the MEGA 180 placed on a hard desk surface and found that lots of the noise was caused by vibrations being transfered through the four plastic legs. The noise was significantly reduced after placing the system on a block of black foam so that the legs no longer touch the desk. You cant see the foam and its much quieter now :o)

  • MEGA 180 Remote/LCD API

    Hi,
I've just built a new MEGA 180 system, and while I like the hardware, I'm less than enthusiastic about the software. Frankly, Media Centre III stinks!
For one thing, I'd like to be able to use the MEGA 180 for MP3 playback without having to turn on the monitor (which is a projector in my case, that takes more than a minute to start up).
The first step would be to program the remote and the LCD display so that you can use whatever MP3 player you want, in my case I would write a WinAmp / MediaMonkey plugin.
For that I need some way to access these devices. I found some dlls and a WinIRX.ocr on the CD but I have no idea how to use them. Is there any API description I can use? Even a simple .h and .lib file for the dlls would suffice for me.
If you've heard anything about such a description, please let me know. Or maybe the adress of somebody at MSI I could contact to get it?
    Thanks!
    Martin.

I've been looking into the dll's as well; there are a few that looks promising. They can't be referenced from Visual Basic though  , so someone with more insight into C++ should have a go at them. PC Alert 4 also installs it's own dll's for writing sys- and cpu temp to the LCM, so there is plenty to choose from. Can't help out with any API descriptions though...
We should keep in mind however that the 180 and 865 are new products for MSI, and not only are they occupied with fixing the numerous problems users have reported, but they will probably try to develop other applications that take advantage of the remote and LCM. From what we've seen so far that is obviosly something they should leave to other, more suited, developers!
I too think that MSI would benefit from releasing a SDK, thus increasing the overall useability of the Mega, thus attracting more users. Leave it to the endusers to decide which mediaplayer/s we want to use.
For the moment I'm putting my hope to a Girder-plugin for the remote, since that seems the most plausible solution right now.

  • Mega 180 components?

hi, im going to order the msi mega 180 tomorrow and im just a bit confused as to what components might be best for it..
so far, im looking at these components:
CPU: 2800xp+ - now a few questions about this...the mega180 only supports up to 3000xp .. now, so will i be able to overclock the 2800 up to 3000 ... if not, should i get the 3000? will there be much of a difference?
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 200GB 8MB IDE ATA/100 8MB cache 7200RPM   - that's the hard drive im looking about getting. its big and, from reviews, seems to be fairly silent - but should i go for a s-ata? does the mega support s-ata? what does it mean.. is it faster/quieter?
DVD Burner: MSI DVD-burner IDE DR4-A, Retail DVD+R/+RW and DVD-R/-RW - im getting this for 66quid so it seems to be the one for me.. any known issues i should be worried about?
Memory: TwinMOS PC3200 DDR-DIMM 512MB CL2.5 Memory184-P (for DDR-PC400MHz) - thats what im looking at atm.. its 56quid. i really dont know much when it comes to memory. i think the mega180 supports dual channel, does this mean that id be better to get 2x256mb sticks?
im going to stick with the onboard gfx (is it the gf4 mx4000?) for the time being.. until the 9800pro comes down in price... and the onboard sound should be grand.
so, is the above the best set-up for me, or should i change it around?
    regards,
    nick

No just updated the audiopart with the drivers from http://www.techconnect.ws
And for Video the latest Nvidia Graphic drivers(trough setup)
Leave those IDE drivers alone, tried that but your system will boot very slowly afterwards

It`s the TV@nywhere Master i`m using and the system is using the Mega 180 intern radio
I think the wire plug doesn`t have to go anywhere. think it`s optional there for other compatible mainboards

  • Mega 180 using the LCD with Linux

    Hi all,
is it possible to use the LCD of my MEGA 180 with Linux? I am using 2.6.9-rc2, would be cool to the see LCD working under Linux, too.
    Best regards,
    Everlast²

There are several forum members working on customising the LED display for the MEGA 180, including myself. The biggest problem at the moment is the lack of information about the hardware specifications of the display. The blueprints of the exact module are definately NOT released by MSI  , but perhaps that specifications of very similar displays are also usable. Another problem that's next in line, is going to be that we will need someone who is into hardware programming. First lets wait for a definitive answer about the blueprints. I'll let you know when more info becomes available.

    Can't help you with that.
    2) guy who installed apps on iPad used his own iTunes account. Is therea way for me to update using my own account? I've tried deleting and reinstalling but I end up paying 2x for the same apps
Who does this iPad belong to? If someone else used their account then they paid for the apps. You will need to buy and pay for apps using your own account which means that you will no longer have access to the apps installed by the other person.
    3) I also know I installed some apps on my own account but when I try to update them, the installer guy,s apple I'd comes out. Is there A way to change that?
If this iPad belongs to you I suggest you reset the iPad to factory defauts and just use it with the apps that you've paid for. You will be able to re-download the apps from the iTunes app store after the reset.
Follow this guide to reset the iPad to factory settings.

  • [HELP] How to records user who use SQLPlus or SQL editor?

    Dear Gurus,
Is onyone know how to record user who use SQLplus or any SQL editor?
    for instance...
user1 using SQLplus on monday august 9.30.21 PM...and I have table which record this for audit user.
    Or..
Can I block user who connect to oracle using SQLPlus?
If anyone know how to do this..please inform me...
    Thanks and Regards
    Erie

You can enable Auditing (AUDIT_TRAIL) and audit at the Session Level to record Logon and Log off of a required user. This can be enabled to be recorded in the audit table or operation system file. You can also audit user statements etc.
For example, to enable auditing connect for user UGONIC
    SQL>audit connect by UGONIC;
    TO disable it
    SQL>noaudit connect by UGONIC;
Check in the SQL Reference for the AUDIT statement and requirements.
If you do not want the user to connect at all via SQL*Plus, you can use PRODUCT_USER_PROFILE to disable a users access to SQL*Plus or at the lower level, disable specified SQL*Plus and SQL commands for the user. You need to run the PUPBLD.SQL script as system user (if not run yet) and add records to it as required.
Example: After running PUPBLD.SQL. This entry stops the user UGONIC from using the drop command at the backend in SQL*Plus.
    INSERT into product_user_profile (product,userid,attribute,char_value,date_value)
    values('SQL*Plus','UGONIC','DROP','DISABLED',NULL);
Note that if a user is already connected by the profile entry, it is not activated on that session, but on subsequent logons. Again read the requied security documentations for this.
For both auditing, you need to set the required database intialisation parameters and know where to get the audit records (in tables, views or OS file). For instance, when using tables, you maintain and query tables like audit$ to view the logs. When using OS type logging, it is recorded on the path specified in the AUDIT_FILE_DEST init parameter (In Windows, it is logged in the Windows Event and you can view it from the event viewer).

  • Using Instant-on on a Mega 180/865??

Yesterday I found the complete(?) Instant-on feature of the Mega 865Pro as an .iso file, downloadable from MSI's website. I was wondering, as this is a small linux OS, could it be possible to modify it in such a way that it could be used on any Mega PC?
To get a better picture of what needs to be done, some questions have to be answered...
    - How is the difference made between booting to Instant-on and booting to Windows, as both are located on the same HDD (could it be that a separe controller [like the Bluebird VL chipset in a Mega 180] directly addresses a different part of the HDD?)
    - Would it be possible to put the Instant-on "partition' on a (bootable) USB-device to bypass the otherwise needed separate chipset?
    - What's the regular intallation procedure for a Mega 865 Pro, could some-on post the content of a "quick installation guide" (of course, when such a guide exists  )? I cannot locate a setup-executable within the Instant-on package.
    JaDi.

it appears that the MSI Intervideo InstantOn download will only work for the 865PRO; i tried installing it earlier on another system i have lying around spare (Celeron 2.0ghz, Asus P4S800 mobo, SiS650 integrated graphics, plus my TV@nywhere Plus). it installed fine onto a clean drive (the white flashing cursor appears for about a minute before anything happens) but after restarting, it just shows a message "PRESS ANY KEY TO REBOOT"
i will try out the other version linked to on Jetway's site, and see what happens...

  • HT5012 I have an iPad Air. The person who transferred  things over from old iPad used his apple address. How is it erased? Thanks

    Dear Apple employees ,
I have a new.new iPad Air. The person who transferred information from oldest iPad to this one, used his Apple address. How do I erase it.   Thanks

Please be aware that you are not communicating with Apple when you post in these forums. These are user-to-user support forums, so in almost all cases the only people who will reply to your posts are, like me, your fellow users.
As to your issue, what do you mean by "used his Apple address"? Are you referring to apps linked to his account? If so, then you can't change that. Apps are permanently tied to the account through which they were purchased. If you want those apps tied to your own Apple ID, you'll need delete them from the iPad and get them again through your own iTunes Store account.
If, however, you just mean that his Apple ID is coming up in the iTunes Store, App Store, etc. you can change this in the Settings -> iTunes & App Store area. You can similarly change accounts for email, calendars, etc. in the relevent settings.
If that doesn't address your question, please post back and clarify the situation you are attempting to remedy.
    Regards.
